"This family-owned Sicilian restaurant has ruled in Gretna for more than 40 years, and with good reason. Tony Mandina’s is wonderfully old school, the kind of place where bridal showers are big affairs and red gravy is serious business. Classic meatballs, veal Alfredo with crabmeat, and an awesome chicken parm. It’s 10 minutes from downtown, make it happen." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell

Great service. Classic style and classic Italian cuisine. The moment you arrive and are greeted by the parking attendant, you feel like you have been welcomed. We were a group in a private room. January 28th, 2023. Caleb was our staff person for our evening. We enjoyed lasagna. Pasta and delicious salads.

Google
Great restaurant! We were greeted with a smile at the parking lot from the valet attendant, then the host and was later blown away with the service from our male server. The food was great and the martini was refreshing !

Carrie Despaux

Google
The food was delicious! The live piano was a nice addition to the atmosphere but made it a little too loud at times. Overall, the service and meal were good and we'll be back!

Laila Marcotte

Google
Our waiter, Jacob, was very tentative and professional through the course of our diner. The food came out hot and tasted great! Highly recommend!!

Google
Visited there while visiting family in New Orleans. Great atmosphere and great food. Great customer service. Immediately greeted at the door entry and as we exited to. Thank you for the house warming visit.

Kelly Brazeau

Google
The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is great, but I had the lasagna and it wasn’t good at all. As an Italian classic that I’ve had many times in Italy and the US, I was surprised that it was swimming in “red gravy” and had very little flavor at all (I don’t even think there was any béchamel sauce in it). The amount of sauce it was sitting in while baked made it a soggy mess that was more soup than pasta dish. You can see from the picture that it’s missing those distinctive layers and is mostly just red sauce, so I’d avoid that dish if you’re ordering.

Google
Service was outstanding. It started I the parking lot and continued throughout the meal. The food was excellent!

Google
It was a wonderful experience from the parking lot, to the meal, then from the service, and our exit. A gentleman was there to greet us and open doors. We were sat right away despite us being 30 minutes early. The menu had a nice variety without breaking the book or being overwhelming. The food was delicious and our desserts came out with a happy anniversary topper. On our way out we were greeted again with many thanks from an older gentleman, perhaps it was Tony! A very classy but slightly casual atmosphere. So glad we gave them a whirl on our last night in town. We'd definitely venture back if down this way again.

Yelp
We have just returned from another visit to New Orleans where we had a fabulous meal at Tony Mandina's in Gretna. We have been big fans of this restaurant since shortly after they opened in 1982. We no longer live in the area, but we return once or twice a year to visit friends and family, and it ALWAYS includes a meal at this incredible place. There are many great restaurants in New Orleans, and we are lucky to have eaten at most of them over the years, but this place is special. The food is wonderful, the best Italian meals I have ever had. But it is the people that make this restaurant so different. From the doorman, who has been with them for decades, to the hostesses, the waiters, the cashiers and especially the family members who still run the whole place, everyone is friendly, helpful and cheerful. Every time we go there, people are greeted as old family friends. Not just us, everyone. If you live in NO and haven't eaten here yet, you are missing out on a jewel of a restaurant. If you visit NO have a meal here to find out what New Orleans hospitality is really all about. Carl and Angie Johnson

Yelp
The service was great! Everyone was attentive. It's a family style restaurant (in my opinion) . The was pretty good..... I think I was more so there for the wine. Lol. I'll be back, probably not as much as I visit other spots, but I'll definitely be back n

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous old school Italian restaurant. The owner greats you as you walk by the live piano music in the bar. The food is amazing and the servers are super friendly. There are more expensive & "fancier" places in NOLA, but none are better than Tony Mandina's

Maria F.

Yelp
Excellent! Best Italian food in NOLA!! Comfort food that reminds me of Mama's. Great service. Love to eat there as I find the atmosphere very relaxing. I give MANDINA'S 5 stars. Maria V. 5 stars Maria V. 5 STARS Five stars

Randy G.

Yelp
Food was good but small portions for Italian food. Service was 1 star. Had 10 of us and young girl talked so low we had to keep asking her to repeat. She NEVER checked on drink refills. Had to ask bus boys to refill our drinks every time. Felt like they stuck this young inexperienced girl server on us because we had a large group. Too many excellent Italian restaurants on both side river to accept Bad service! Not going back.

Gina H.

Yelp
Nicely surprised when we walked in. Very nice and clean! We met a few friends for lunch. We ordered a bunch of appetizers for the table. Fried Calamari, eggplant sticks, rolls, garlic bread, crabmeat ravioli & meatballs. Everyone enjoyed it all! The staff was great! So friendly, very attentive. I had the chicken parm with pasta, husband had the veal parm, and others pasta. I was so full, I didn't get dessert. They make (their grandmother's recipe) the best cuccidati's I have ever have! So Light & almost like a fluff with the fig filling. Icing is perfect! They sell them in packages. They also sell their red gravy by the jar. You can also find these delicious cookies at Dorignac's in Metairie. I also tried their turtle soup. It was good too!!

Don R.

Yelp
Two words: Red Sauce. This place blew my mind. It was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was classy casual and fun. My cocktails was great too. I'll be back for sure.

Debbie N.

Yelp
We have been here a couple of times. Service is impeccable, the ambiance is warm and the food is outstanding. They are very consistent. Reservations are needed unless you are willing to wait over an hour to be seated.

Greg M.

Yelp
Don't let the CCC bridge keep you from some of the best Italian food in the New Orleans area. Tony Mandina's is a Gretna institution, and deservedly so. You'll be greeted by the doorman/parking attendant, Ernest, then step into a warm and welcoming lobby, with the sounds of piano music. You'll likely find Tony and his sweet wife sitting at one of the tables in the front dining room inviting you to join them for a truly memorable dining experience all expertly presented by their family and longtime staff. We were seated in the rear dining room which was much quieter than the front room, perfect for visiting with friends whom we hadn't seen in far too long. We started with their signature raspberry lemon drop martinis, caprese salad and an awesome cup of creamy artichoke soup, along with the complimentary rolls & butter. For entrees we had Chicken Parmigiana, Lindsey Grace Chicken and pasta with meatballs. Every bite of every dish was delicious and exemplified the love and care that goes into each of their family recipes, which they also make available in a new released cookbook. We enjoyed a bottle of the Mandina family vineyards Italian red wine with dinner. As a finishing touch I couldn't resist the Affogoto, a scrumptious scoop of vanilla bean ice cream served with a cup of the best Italian espresso. I simply can't more highly recommend this superb family style Italian restaurant. If there was ever a reason to cross the bridge, this is it!

Yelp
I was in Gretna for work and had heard about Tony Mandinas so I stopped by. i ordered takeout and I was told that I should pull up by the cones and someone would come out - which did happen so great service on that part. I ordered the eggplant parmesan and mozzarella points. The eggplant was huge with three eggplant which had nice breading and a good mix between sauce and pasta. The mozzarella points were also good and each were served with a butter roll (i was expecting garlic bread) Overall big portions and good service with decent flavors fyi - i ordered during lunchtime but was charged and given dinner portion - hint be specific about what portion to order

Tori J.

Yelp
We had the veal Classico and chicken parmigiana. Both were excellent. I was too full to eat dessert there but that didn't stop me from taking it to go. Bread pudding was a hit. Staff was great. Atmosphere was what I needed after a busy day. Great location for a date night.

Jessica Z.

Yelp
I think our waitress was new because she wasn't very informed on the wines or the menu and she was very slow but she was nice. Food was good and the restaurant was very pretty.

Maria O.

Yelp
It was very rainy, but the doorman made sure we got inside right away. The restaurant was filled, but we had reservations and were seated right away. Dirk was our waiter. He and all the team serving us were attentive. The food was delicious and plentiful. A visit to Tony Mandina's is stepping into a throwback era - the owners sit at the first table and greet every guest, a pianist plays old standards on a baby grand, all the waitstaff are perfectly groomed, dressed in starched white shirts, bow ties, black trousers and vests, with impeccable manners, and ready to serve. The meal was delicious - artichoke soup, fried eggplant with marinara, fried oysters with a honeyed sauce, and Veal Classico. Enjoy your visit!

Yelp
This is one of the better dining establishments on the Westbank and one of the best values in Italian food in the New Orleans area. The decor is a bit dated 80's style but I LOVE the 80's so that doesn't bother me! They have a couple of different rotating daily lunch specials along with their regular menu. The food is good here, served in nice quantity and they have a unique seafood gumbo that is more like a gumbo z'herbes as its rather green but very tasty. They give you both yeast rolls and garlic bread with your meal. On my most recent visit I had the lasagna which was nicely done and very tasty. The service here is very friendly and accommodating. The family that owns the establishment is usually present and very friendly and engaging. The location is a bit off away from most things and parking can get a bit cramped. Really the only two main things I would like to see improved are that they don't offer real butter with your bread and they don't have towels in the bathroom to dry your hands and only offer an air dryer. The food quality, value and friendliness of this place definitely warrant a trip to the Westbank to visit this establishment. Tony Mandina's video review: https://youtu.be/a8Q-y4jAXIk

Yelp
Every time Tony Mandina's come to mind, I wonder why I am not there every week. This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Another advantage is that the restaurant it's close to my house. It has easy access and parking. The decor is well-appointed. service is polite accurate and prompt. The food is delicious. It would be unfair to single out a dish because they are all very good. Don't forget to buy a jar of their homemade red sauce on your way out.

Charles C.

Yelp
Great little restaurant. Laid back vibe between formal and local. Food and service are excellent.

Beth R.

Yelp
The best Italian food ever. Their Red Gravy is so good, not acidic. Served on angle hair pasta with gulf shrimp, OMG. We split bread pudding with rum sauce for desert . Others at our table had tiramisu and hot brownies with ice cream. Both looked good.

Jovan W.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience I had here. I visited this establishment today for a baby shower. Upon my arrival I was greeted my some amazing stuff members. I had a hand full of gift the young lady immediately grabbed the box out my hand and help me to the baby shower area. We never had to ask for anything. They were on it. From refilling our drinks to bring us extra utensils. I even asked for a Togo plate of food and they accommodated me. The food was magnificent. We had a choice of shrimp and crabmeat Manicotti and chicken parmigiana. I chose the shrimp and crabmeat manicotti. And it was delicious. Full of flavor and seafood. It was an order of 2 but it was so fulfilling I was only about to one of the rolls. This was a very wonder event space. We were served an appetizer which was fried eggplant, and main dish and bread pudding. This space is great for any social event that you're needing it for. The room was very spacious and clean.

BG A.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite Italian restaurants in the New Orleans metro area. And the entire staff couldn't be nicer. Love this place! https://blainerestaurantreport.wordpress.com/2018/12/30/tony-mandinas-gretna-la-report-166/

Eden H.

Yelp
This was a great find that I stumbled upon after a friend recommended it. It is located in a less desirable part of town but once you are inside the establishment you forget the location . The decor is nice and gives a fancy vibe with a piano player. They have a doorman and the staff are very inviting and warm. I made a reservation on OpenTable and the process was super simple. The waiter who took care of us provided the best service I have had in a while. Would highly recommend the Tuna with creamed spinach stuffed eggplants and the eggplant sticks were a great appetizer choice. This is a an awesome gem with authentic food and taste. You won't be disappointed.

Brandi G.

Yelp
Hands down the best Italian food on the Westbank! I go here pretty often and never had a bad experience. The food and service is always excellent!

Ruben T.

Yelp
Delicious, upscale without being snotty family testaurant.. Professional, efficient staff comanding a delightful dinning room experience providing intimate and elegant dinning. (Piano music on Saturday evenings).. The Italian Sicilian style cooking from veal parmesan, to the lasagnar to the fried eggplant are exceptionsl. Their red sauce is outstanding. Prices are resonable. Reservation recommended.

Scarlett G.

Yelp
Love love love EVERYTHING!! The staff is FANTASTIC, the food is AMAZING, the wine even better. The best little Italian restaurant in GRETNA.

JK L.

Yelp
This is a super clean restaurant with delicious red gravy and Italian food. Waitress was attentive and food delivered quickly. Very impressed as I haven't been here in awhile. I love the white tablecloths and black linen napkins add a nice touch. Give them a try!

Derek G.

Yelp
The best kept not so secret in Gretna. Thank you TM's for an awesome experience and even better meal. Y'all everything is excellent... ambiance, service, and the food. Definitely my new Italian fave in NOLa.

Minerva Aniana D.

Yelp
Very nice place. I wish I would have know the ambiance was so classy because I could have dressed up a little more. The area does not give that impression but when you go in the restaurant its another world. There is a grand piano in the entrance. The staff was very accommodating and welcoming. Everyone working there dressed very classy. We even met the owners. Loved that they were there greeting everyone at their table. I began by asking the waiter about the GF options which are available. I started with the Italian salad which was so satisfying. It was well seasoned and it had the perfect amount of olives, tomatoes, ham and cheese. Well done! My GF dish was spaghetti with shrimp and the house pasta sauce. I was very grateful they had GF pasta but the sauce was not very enjoyable for my taste. It needed more spices, salt, garlic.... some kind of flavor. It may be a sauce from a certain part of Italy but I prefer a simple garlic and fresh tomatoes. My husband had the soup and lasagna with the same sauce which he enjoyed . We will probably come back for a romantic evening.

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Recently rediscovered this Westbank gem and now it has become my one of my favorites. Some of the following items have become rotating staples for my family: Grilled Tuna Melazane (tuna with eggplant and spinach), Classic lasagna, Redfish Alia, Veal Classico and the best bread pudding!

Matthew L.

Yelp
Another Westbank institution, another meal well had. Came here with a friend who had always heard of the place but never had a chance to get there. Being that I have come to this restaurant my entire life, why I knew I would be the best person to show it off. The food never disappoints! Freshly made with that sweet sauce that those Sicilians brought over. We enjoyed the Oysters with Honey Pepper Pancetta which was AMAZING!!! Fried oysters with that honey pepper sauce was so good. I of course got the Chicken Parmesan like I get at every Italian restaurant that I try. My friend got the Veal and it was just so good! The presentation was perfect, the food was so delicious. Could not tell you how great it was, you need to go try it out. With ordering a bottle of wine to go with our meal, we really did not break the bank. Truly a great Westbank institution that continues to thrive after all of these years. Go try out this place, and make sure you tell Mr. Tony hello, he will be at the table next to the piano!

Amy F.

Yelp
We've eaten here for many years and enjoy seeing the Mandinas at their small table by the bar greeting diners and then bidding them goodbye, and Mr. Tony when he walks through the dining room, greeting each table. The gentleman who is at the front door is also one of the faces I look forward to seeing each time. I had the brociolone, and the meat was so tender, the filling delicious, but the red gravy is on the sweet side, too much for me unfortunately. We have always enjoyed the cream sauces on the eggplant and chicken dishes. They will even sub out vegetables for pasta (for freaks like me who do such a thing, ha). My dad enjoyed the Shrimp Mandina with its savory, spicy Worcestershire sauce. The servers have always seemed to be mostly college-age kids, with a few seasoned veterans mixed in. The service is as good as one would expect in a restaurant like this. The atmosphere is cozy, lights low, piano player providing the soundtrack of instrumental Sinatra (natch!) and other tunes. It can get loud, but that's only because of the happy chatter of a big table like the ladies in matching T-shirts at the back who were just having the best time. It is the kind of special-occasion restaurant on the West Bank that fills up with kids in formals on weekends during prom season. The prices seem kind of high, but maybe that's the West Banker in me. In the end you are paying for atmosphere, history and good wishes. I'm glad Tony Mandina's is still around.

John L. H.

Yelp
Tony Mandina's still offers an excellent value during lunch. Yesterday I had the special of the day. It was hamburger steak with mushrooms, onions and a side of french fries (Tuesday's special). It was a great value at right under $10.00. The hamburger steak was flavorful and juicy. Most hamburger steaks come with mashed potatoes, but the fries were a welcome change. They soaked up all of the gravy goodness and were great. Our server was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place.

Mary L.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, just had the best meal I've had in ages. The redfish alli was to die for, buttery, spicy, topped with crabmeat over linguini, and the veal parm with red gravy was amazing. Great service, all staff were maked with plenty of distance between tables. I can't believe I waited this long to go back. I won't make that mistake again, I'll be back soon.

Richeal P.

Yelp
We ate dinner there and the food, service and atmosphere were fantastic. We had a mound of fried eggplant strips for starters. Husband had the oyster special, artichoke soup and cheesecake and loved it. I had eggplant Dominic with crabmeat and topped with shrimp. It was excellent. Lots of food. The place is elegant and beautiful.

Brenda D.

Yelp
From parking the car, entering and being served this has to be the best customer service in the whole New Orleans area! Awesome food to top it off!

Misty G.

Yelp
What a great find on the West Bank. Lived here 14 years never tried it before. All the food was delicious and the staff was so so nice!

James B.

Yelp
Talk about beautiful finds. We came here absolutely on accident. We were actually thinking we were going to another restaurant on the West Bank. Buuut.. Accidents can be a good thing, especially when it comes to food. This beautiful gem of a restaurant fires on all cylinders. From the wait hosting staff, to the wait staff to the food, it is all absolute aces. The pianist, playing Christmas tunes, was only one more touch of perfection to an already perfect meal. My seafood platter, not overflowing, but just enough to remind you of why the Gulf Coast remains the seafood king on America. My wife had the eggplant Parm, which was cooked to perfection, and not a moment beyond. There was truly not a bad moment, nor a negative note in our entire meal. Fury's in Metairie, Venezia in Mid City, and Mandina's on the West Bank have NOLA all but locked down for exquisite Italian dining in the metro 504. Now, to find something on the North Shore.. Any suggestions?

Blake R.

Yelp
I have been coming to Mandina's for 37 years and I worked here when I was in high school. Today, I went for desert. This is a new item the restaurant offered. It was fabulous. The tiramisu reminded me of Italia. I also had a cappuccino and tasted the Mandina wine. Both was fabulous.

Tee F.

Yelp
Yayy having lots of fun with family at Mandina's. It's my niece's bday. So we all turned up. Beautiful setting, beautiful atmosphere. Now as far as the service it was good. I had the shrimp mandina could have been better. My husband had the Seafood platter, he did not feel like the amount of food on the plate was not worth it for $22.

Marielle S.

Yelp
It's pretty surprising that I had never been here, since I have lived on the Westbank my entire life. I think I may have gone one other time when I was a kid, but I remembered nothing about the place. A friend and I had lunch here, and after I figured out exactly how to get to the place (it's located at the edge of Narnia), I went in and enjoyed a really good meal. I got the catfish and white beans, which was the lunch special and one of my favorites. It was amazing and so good! It was a generous serving and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere of this place is really nice and I could see myself going here on a dinner date. It has an "upscale" feel. but I didn't feel underdressed in my jeans and sweater. I definitely want to go back and try some other things on the menu.

Clyde P.

Yelp
Stopped by this little tucked away gem for a light lunch. Great Service made me feel right at home. Caesar Salad was tasty with the perfect amount of dressing. The bread rolls are fluffy and sweet. I had the Shrimp and Crabmeat Ravioli special and my tastebuds went into cardiac arrest from the pure rush of flavor. All in all I'd be comfortable bringing my future wife here

Rick F.

Yelp
We just got back from our first meal at TONY Mandino's. This is a 30+ year old West Bank institution, serving children & grandkids of it's original clientele. This is an honest Sicilian/Italian/Louisiana/Gulf Coast eatery, with the old standards, all done expertly. We had the Crab & Eggplant Stack, with the shrimp Alfredo. Both were just fine. ColdBeer, live piano, good desert selections, honest prices, attentive waitress; nothing to not like ! Met the genial owner & namesake; local folks serving great dishes. We WILL be back, and soon ! Remember, in any "Italian" place in this area, the Italian basics are always great; like spaghetti, lasagna, & cannelloni ! Rick

Derek R.

Yelp
Family style Italian restaurant. HUGE portions! Great food and service! I've been there many times for lunch as I work on the WB. It has never disappointed! Owner greets everyone when you come in and leave. Very family oriented. Big party/special occasion rooms in back. If you are on the Westbank, give them a try. Highly recommend. Buon Appetito! ;)

Ben B.

Yelp
Food was good and fairly priced. The side salads (extra $3.50) are darn near big enough to split. A variety of bread including some yummy cheese bread toasted. The fried seafood was good quality. The shrimp fettuccine was good and had a lot of shrimp! Doorman opened the front door for us. Greeted by friendly folks who I thought were customers but could have been owners for all I know! Nice decor. Pretty open place which made it really loud even though the main dining room was 1/2 full. Our waitress was prompt to seat us. The buss boys were very attentive. Our teas were never empty. I think as the meal went on the waitress we has was assigned more tables than she could handle as we were receiving less and less attention and we were ready to go. A bit annoying that every time the dishwasher went on the lights got dim for a moment. Not something you'd expect in a nicer restaurant. Overall good experience. Not great or off the charts. Would recommend. Better than an Olive Garden and it won't break the bank.

Susan J.

Yelp
This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the New Orleans area. If you were lucky enough to have a New Orleanian grandmother with a Sicilian heritage, this is the food you would have eaten in her kitchen. My favorite is the bruciolone, but every thing I've eaten here is good. Always servings big enough to bring home half. Service is good. Just go and eat.

Tommy B.

Yelp
Awesome food and 1st class service!! Had the best osso buco special on Valentine's Day (my favorite Italian dish), I wish it was on the menu. We love Tony Mandina's

Gabe R.

Yelp
I've been here probably a dozen times over the past 20 years. I grew up on the Westbank so to me it's kind of like going home to some extent. I've been to rehearsal dinners here, special occasions, and just plain " hey it's Tuesday let's go to Tony Mandina's". The last time I was here was this past New Year's Eve. Some friends of mine do this every year and I seem to partake in 1 out of every 3 years. This year I went with a basic lasagna as it has been a long time since I had one. It was everything I wanted it to be. cheesy, slighlt salty and a wonderful mildly sweet marinara.....excuse me "RED GRAVY". My Midwestern heritage thinks gravy is only used for biscuits and mashed potatoes so excuse my verbiage. We also got some fried eggplant and calamari. Both are perfectly fried with no greasiness and come with mari...RED GRAVY for dipping. They are always accommodating us even when our party gets upwards of 20 plus people include 7-10 kids. The waitress splits the checks and there is never anything wrong with who ordered what...which is damn near impossible with a table our size. (We had 16 adults, 8 kids and 8 different checks!!!!) Service is phenomenal and so is the food.

Annalaura B.

Yelp
Delicious!! Staff is super friendly and you will walk away with a food baby and ready for a nap! Exactly what you expect from an Italian lunch =D

Orphan D.

Yelp
Lived on westbank for most of my life and I'm sorry to say this is the first time eating here. Can't believe we have been missing out on this little gem. Great family atmosphere, very good service and everything we ate was delicious. Already planning on coming back. It was nice to find all of this and not have to cross the river. Thanks Tony Mandina's for being patient with me and not coming sooner but we will make it up to you.

Kay J.

Yelp
We dropped by on a Friday night. They were sponsoring a cancer fund raiser so there was a wait. The owner was a gracious host helping us be comfortable while waiting and greeting all the patrons as they left. The service was great and the food was fabulous. It was definitely a memorable experience. Shout out to the bartender who knows how to mix up a drink. Also, thanks for the beautiful background music from the pianist. It was a night to remember

Lynette D.

Yelp
My boyfriend & I split the large Italian salad & I had a bowl of artichoke soup. Both were delicious!

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, wonderful cuisine! We will definitely visit here again on future visits to the area.
