About a 2-2.5: Tony's Burrito Mex is another favorite local spot for their chimichangas; the menu also includes breakfast platters, chilaquiles, appetizers (such as guacamole and chips, nachos supreme, etc.), tacos, tortas, tostadas, burritos, sopes, and dinner combos.
We came here to have lunch, and we all ordered the large Chimichanga dinner plate - you have an option to go for a small or large size, and we opted for the latter. This deep-fried burrito is stuffed with your choice of meat (steak, chicken, pork, ground beef, or chorizo, in which we chose the steak and the pork), refried beans, tomatoes, and cheese, and topped with sour cream and guacamole. We opted out of the tomatoes, just in case we had any leftovers and didn't want any weird heating situations.
The chimichanga itself looked like it was fried well and it was definitely large - could have been split between two people or so. The flavor, however, was just okay; the meats could have been more flavorful, and some of the steak pieces were too cartilage-y and tough. The pork was also on the bland side, and the salsas that were served were too liquidy and watery, and barely had any heat. The refried beans had almost like a metallic taste to them, which I was surprised as it seemed like it was made in house?
The platters were served with a side of more refried beans and rice, which were both forgettable.
Service was very friendly and kind, and even though there was a line, it moved along quickly. There is a handful of seating inside, but most seem to get their items to go.
I'm glad I was able to give Tony's a try, but wouldn't return.
