Randomly stopped by here for lunch, as I was in the area for something else. Nice little local sandwich shop with plenty of seating. I got thee 50/50 option and it was really good! I enjoyed trying out two options instead of one and the price of about $12 was quite reasonable. Would recommend people coming by to try this place out.

Google
I absolutely love this place! The ladies who run it are the sweetest and the food is amazing! If you are looking for a great sandwich look no further. The potato salad is also to die for

Ahmad Alakleek

Google
Best in town ? More like best in the country, if you’re indecisive like me, get the 50/50 I love me a good sandwich and this is by far the best one I’ve had in a long time, I tried both the potato salad and the macaroni, I prefer the potato but they are both good ! The customer service was amazing the ladies there are so welcoming and kind, really made the experience 👍🏽

Lydia Grace Cintron

Google
Are you kidding me I have been looking for a French dip to die for and this is the place! They're better than The Hat! They put more meat in your French dip and they're not as expensive. There is so much history here it's amazing!

Google
Cool old building and friendly people. Problem for me was the food was really unremarkable. I thought the roast beef was dry and small portion. Bread was not fresh either. Worst part was the au jus, it was so watery, nearly clear. Pastrami was mid. Overall can’t recommend going out of your way for this.

Google
Glad I found Tony's French Dips in Downtown Pomona. I was lucky enough to meet the owner that still makes the sandwiches the right way. They have been open since the 1950's and still serving the Pomona community with their amazing sandwiches. I had the 50/50 Pastrami and Beef dip, both are amazing the Pastrami with mustard and pickles had to be my favorite and the dip was perfect! Come to Tony's French Dip!

Google
I've been here just a few times, and let me tell you, this spot is still going strong. It's definitely a Yummy Spot 😋

Google
These sandwiches were out of this world. We were instantly greeted by a friendly and humorous staff that made us feel right at home. There are many food options and you can’t go wrong with any. The sandwiches were carefully crafted and they melt in your mouth with every bite. The Roast beef is high quality meat. Super impressed. A very family friendly, clean, and fun environment.

Yelp
I have been a fan since my grandfather first took me here maybe 50 years ago. It was a favorite lunch destination for him and others that worked at Wayne Sweeper Company in Pomona. My wife and I got there just before closing on Friday and the owners were just wonderful. My wife went in to order our food to go, and I stayed in the car with Hank the HR dog. They talked favorite French dips and gave her some pasta salad to take with her. My wife had the French dip and I had the turkey dip. The sandwiches were meaty moist and delicious. We enjoyed the pasta salad they gave us to try and the potato salad I ordered, which was as good as I remembered. The interior was clean and the vintage Dodger bobbleheads and figurines made my wife smile. If you are in the area stop in for a great French dip and sandwich experience.

Yelp
The service and the folks who work here are great. I want to acknowledge how kind and warm they are. Maybe I didn't order right, but I figure when French Dip is in the name of the business that's what I should order. The beef French dip was served on fairly good bread, but the beef was only okay and the au jus was more flavorless broth than anything else. The potato salad here is the great...it's part traditional American and part German all in one shot. Done very well.

Yelp
Been in my bookmarks list for sometime and I'm always on the hunt for a good sandwich. This spot is nearby where I work so I decided to try it today. I ordered the beef dip sandwich and potato salad and it came out to about $16. I also asked for horseradish, hot mustard, and a pickle on the side. I thought the sandwich was a perfect size and the roast beef in it was a generous amount. The au jus was really good as it wasn't salty at all and it had a good beefy flavor. The restaurant has plenty of seating and the staff was very polite. I get a really homey/family feeling with the staff, so you know they'll take care of you. The vibe is very similar to Philippe's out in LA. The only thing that affected me was that there wasn't really any parking on the street. You may have to walk a little bit from where you park but it's not too bad. Solid quality food.

Yelp
Sandwiches tasted great. Service was excellent and the staff were all kind and prompt. The ambiance has a classic diner vibe to it!

Yelp
The oldest restaurant in Pomona, pumping out French Dips since 1958. This was my first time here. The place is very old school, in a divey neighborhood. Easy to park on the street and not crowded at all during the weekday lunch hour. Very nice staff, including one kind lady that has worked here for 50 years. Lots of seating and decorated like a place from the distant past. I loved it. I opted for the 1/2 and 1/2 so I was able to try both the pastrami and beef dip. The sandwich was delicious, but expensive. $17 for the sandwich, aju, pickle spear, peppers and a small potato salad. Honestly, you get a much bigger sandwich for $12 at The Hat but I enjoyed my meal nonetheless. I love old school places like this.

Yelp
My husband had been to this restaurant before, but this was my first time. It's a cute little place with so much history. It was fun looking at all of the old pictures. They have plenty of tables and chairs if you want to dine in. We ordered it to go. We ordered a Half & Half, which is half beef dip and half pastrami. We also ordered a side of potato salad, as I heard it was amazing. When the cashier told my husband the total was $29.84, I was shocked! I wondered if they had charged him for two sandwiches. Nope, it was $23.50 for one sandwich! The half with pastrami was pretty lame. It didn't have much meat at all. The half with beef was a bit larger. However, we totally felt like we got ripped off. There is no way this sandwich is worth $23.50! It was good, but it wasn't that good. The potato salad was good, but I like the potato salad from Juan Pollo way more! If I ever go back, I would not order the Half & Half!

Yelp
Let's start with the service. The service was excellent, and the ladies were great and friendly. Great attitudes. All the way around. This place reminds me of Philippe The Original in Downtown Los Angeles. It was my first time coming here, and I like the vibe. They should have more signs because they are in an industrial area. So, I believe people just passed by this gem. The food was good, not like Philippe's, but good. The bun was dry. It feels like they didn't dip the sandwich. I got the half and half. I got half roast beef and half ham. The au jus does not have flavor. It tasted like water. That was disappointing. I would go back.

Lora A.

Yelp
This was the only place I could find that had a true French beef dip sandwich...it wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad at all
google avatar

Yelp
This is straight out of the 50's this place was established in 1958 everything must be original it's crazy.... In downtown Pomona by the rail road tracks. You see graffiti everywhere and homeless but I felt safe it's just part of pomona.. they survived covid but since covid they lost business now they are only open till 3. The cook in the back has been here for 50 years and she is in her 80's. They are famous for their beef dips and potato salad.. I can see why both were very good. The potato salad we were told people buy it by the gallons it's a secret recipe that remains a secret to this day. The rolls are fresh which makes the sandwich a perfect combination. Stop by and check it out you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Came here because of the good reviews but it honestly just didn't hit the spot. You first walk in and there is no menu to be found so you're just standing there looking at the menu through Google or Yelp. The atmosphere is old decor with saw dust everywhere, trash on the floor with some dead bugs on the floor. Good thing was the tables were clean. Service was okay the old lady's working the counter were nice but didn't understand each other well. They kept going back & forth & repeating the order to each other which all we got was 2 of the same sandwiches & potato/pasta salad. Overall the only thing I liked was the potato salad & the pickle. The whole vibe just wasn't there & the place didn't look clean plus the dead bugs just wasn't ugh. I gave it a shot & hopefully I don't get sick later lol.

Yelp
Super delicious. Got a half & half. Half beef dip and half grinder. Both were so good. They were large, fresh, and flavorful. Their mac salad, potatoes salad, and coleslaw was really good. I enjoyed it. Service was good too. Nice ladies. I like the atmosphere and ambiance. Lots of history displayed around the restaurant

Yelp
This place is so cute! The staff are so friendly and inviting. We loved our sandwiches, a def close by sub for Phillippes

Yelp
So sad I have to write this but this place has lost it's touch. It was a treat to come here as a kid now it's overpriced, they are tight with the meat, the bread is not soft like it used to be. They charge for the pickles that used not come with your meal. The serving sizes are definitely smaller. I wish the food was at least the same and I wouldn't mind paying.
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
their potato salad is gone downhill and they were known for potato salad. Their sandwiches have gotten smaller, and the people aren't too friendly that work there.
google avatar

Helena L.

Yelp
The sandwiches we purchased was good but it would have been better if the buns was warm. The two ladies seem pretty friendly. The meat portion was good. First time here. Happen to ran into the owner when he was at Queen's Bakery picking up the bread rolls. That's how we had to try this new place to us. I see it's been there since 1958. Wow. I let the lady know we found a hair in my husband's potato salad and she just said sorry. I feel she should have least offer us another portion.
google avatar

Jorge G.

Yelp
Must try in Pomona don't forget the root beer in a mug .................................. ........... old school pictures on the walls
google avatar

Dawn S.

Yelp
The sandwich was not good. Very dry and $10.50 for just meat and bread. To add cheese another .50, to have a pickle another .75, and potato salad another 1.00. Very nickel dime you!
google avatar

C R.

Yelp
Sandwiches and sides are delicious, but the real treat is being welcomed in such a friendly way. The sandwiches are a good size-add some delicious macaroni or potato salad and you'll be stuffed!

Yelp
I found a gem with Tony's French dip in the City of Pomona. I'm not sure how I never heard or seen this place. The meats are so fresh and not greasy. I'm not a fan of potato or macaroni salad but this right here sealed the deal for me. You have a new costomer now... please help support this place, it's a historic deli and still going after all these decades. #tonysdeli #cityofpomona #delicatessen #pestramisandwich #inlandempire @cityofpomona @foodiemobbb @lafoodieguy @foodieofontario @lafoodjunkie @ie.foodies @iefoodeats #frenchdip @frenchdip1985

Yelp
We have been going to Tony's for years and years! Potato salad was still great. But the beef dip well the meat isn't as good as it was. That's if you actually get any. Seems like when the older lady does sandwich's there isn't much meat! Going to the hat from now on! They use real beef and it's great! Sorry Tony's but in my opinion your quality has really gone down!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Tony's is truly a local landmark and the only spot I know to get a good beef dip sandwich in the area. This mom and pop deli has been in business since 1958 and stepping in transports you back to Pomona's glory days. Stop in for a great traditional beef dip & try one of their delicious pickled eggs. I only wish they were open for dinner!
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for years. The food has not changed. It's always pretty good. The ambiance and decor is still the same minus some new dodger stuff. The ladies are always nice and on point.

Yelp
Let me tell you this place is a hidden gem. They close early so hurry up and make it over there for lunch you won't regret it. The people who work here are so friendly. They seem to like working here. The service is fast. The sandwiches definitely hit the spot. The meat is fresh. They aren't shy about packing your sandwich. They deserve more customers. The line should be out the door. I love the potato salad. I ordered the chef salad too. It comes with meat and hard boiled eggs. Excellent! I love this place. So glad I found it. I wish other people would too.
google avatar

Yelp
A delicious lunch option when in Pomona. I've tried way too many pastrami sandwiches that are overly salty. This place is not one of them. My sandwich was on a fresh roll and completed with potato salad and a pickle. My lunch mates ordered the beef sandwich and said it was delicious! I suggest calling ahead for your take out order. The wait can be long with only 2 working behind the counter.

Kayden B.

Yelp
Best sandwhich in southern California by a long shot get the cold grinder. The French dips are amazing the egg salad is amazing this place should be in every city in the US because the quality of the food is that good!

Rebecca R.

Yelp
After decades of going there monthly, I will not go back. So disappointed! My sandwich had hardly any Pastrami on it. Not spear pickle. Only 2 small pickle chips. Very little mustard. The roll was cold! What the heck happened here? It never was like that.
google avatar

E J.

Yelp
I have been going to Tony's since I was a kid in the 60's. The pastrami sandwich with potato salad, chips, and a pickled egg was always my meal of choice. Great service and great food is the reason I always return.
google avatar

Lily T.

Yelp
Best hidden gem in Pomona highly recommend you try these delicious sandwiches always freshly made so so good!
google avatar

Misty S.

Yelp
Great old fashioned sandwiches! 50/50 pastrami/ French dip with provolone and both salads!! Cannot beat the flavors!! Crappy neighborhood but worth risking your safety to get your mouth around one of these sandwiches!!

Mandooo L.

Yelp
I can see why people looove this spot and why families have been coming here for generations.. I may have given it a higher score if I were one of those, but I was spoiled w Philippe the Original in LA before here.. I give this spot a score of high 3's but cannot bump it to 4/5 stars, I'm sorry. As for the beef dip: meat & au jus were above average, but the bread was a bit on the stale side.. and I wish there was a lil more meat; I saw old pics and it used to be piled high in the past! I'd prefer businesses to keep servings/ratios the same and raise prices rather than skimping... the pickled egg was really good I got a cold grinder as well.. wouldn't ever order this again.. strictly stick to beef dips & pickled eggs imo The two ladies working there were super sweet and welcoming :)
google avatar

Jill M.

Yelp
Tonys has been in business for quite some time. Hidden lil gem. The grinder sandwich is excellent. The pastrami was lacking. The potato salad is the best I've ever had. Service is good. Plenty of room inside to sit.
google avatar

Mario Y.

Yelp
For some reason everything was perfect. The service, food, and the location. Once you get in the door you travel back in time, but the nice ladies didn't aged. The vibes are great. Keep it simple Ztup. Nuff said.
google avatar

Raquel R.

Yelp
I know this place is legendary or whatever but omg I got 3 orders just a bit ago. Pastrami sandwich the bottom of the bun was all soggy too much fat on the meat kept having to take pieces out my mouth. They didn't give my extra scoop of potato salad I paid for n no cheese on my turkey sandwich I asked for. The place is always nice n kept up with. Idk if it's the older lady that works there but I mean ya it's a no go n we used to go a lot.

Roxanna J.

Yelp
The beef dips are the best. I've been coming to Tony's since I was a kid. Now my kids love it. I recommend the beef dips with provolone, a little mayo and onions. Chef's kiss!
google avatar

Rachelle O.

Yelp
This place is historic... Food is really good... Anything you order here is delicious... The service is outstanding...

Natty R.

Yelp
Best French dips in the inland valley the only place that even comes close is Philippe's in downtown Los Angeles. Great family run restaurant always friendly

Tara N.

Yelp
I had the half grinder half beef dip sandwich. It was so good. The potato salad was amazing. The ladies working there were so friendly and service was quick. Definitely recommend
google avatar

nancy a.

Yelp
Disappointed. Ordered beef dip and wondered "where's that beef dip flavor?" Came here because of the reviews and just happened to be in the area so there we went. Hubby and I both thought the beef was tasteless. The au ju to dip the sandwich was also lacking the beefy flavor, The potato salad was just ok. I guess we will stick with Phillipe's in LA. We did like that the roll was very soft/fresh but that's it.
google avatar

Yelp
I'd give this place a thousand stars if I could. Tony's Famous French Dips is the kind of place that you stumble upon and hold in your heart forever. It's located in the cusp of Pomona - no walkability, happen-ability - you just gotta know. And I hope people now know that Tony's exist. The hours are Yelp are inaccurate - you can double check with Google, but the women who work this place are so, so kind. They accepted my order even though they were closing up shop. My sister and I ordered: -half beef/half pastrami dip: half pound of beef and pastrami, dipped It comes with sides - we chose macaroni salad (a little bland). SO, don't order at the last minute and ask for the au jus on the side to minimize how soggy your bread is if you're doing a take out situation. I personally liked the pastrami more because it had more flavor, but who knows! That could change. What an institution! I can't wait to come back post COVID because they're 100% Dodger fans. How fun would it be to get a delicious French dip sandwich while watching a Dodger game? I love the thought so much.

Crystal B.

Yelp
This is a family owned restaurant that serves great sandwiches and THE best potato salad I have ever had. Super friendly employees, very cute and comfortable dining atmosphere, great food! Can't go wrong with Tony's.

Kory M.

Yelp
Best Beef Dip ever!!! This is a hidden gem! Great prices but more importantly the quality! The food is authentic and way better than the hat or any beef dip I've had. Straight out of the 50s. You won't regret it. Great customer service too. I'll be back with the entire family.
google avatar

Diana A.

Yelp
YES! YES! YES! I only recently discovered this spot after attending an event for the LGBT group in Pomona and I am HOOKED. I grew up going to Philippe's in DTLA (if you know, you know) and Tony's gives their beef dip a run for their money. This place is classic and the owners are incredible. The sandwiches are delicious and I highly recommend the potato salad. You won't leave this place hungry, but you will leave wanting to come back again. There's plenty of space to eat inside and a couple of tables outside. It doesn't seem to be located in the best neighborhood, but it's quiet and you'll end up feeling fairly safe. I highly recommend for lunch or dinner!
google avatar

Maureen L.

Yelp
Read the reviews prior to stopping by and I am so glad I did! I ordered a Pastrami sandwich with potato salad and a side of macaroni salad and everything is amazing! The lady at the register is very lovely and welcoming. My order was ready within 5 mins or less and I brought a menu to work with me. The sandwich itself is packed with meat and flavorful and the bread is surprisingly soft (I personally don't like hard/crunchy bread too much). The potato salad is well seasoned and the flavor is light. The macaroni salad is also well seasoned with a light vinegar flavor. I think the sides compliment the sandwiches. I love supporting small businesses and this one is definitely worth checking out.

David N.

Yelp
I was craving a good Beef Dip sandwich. I came across those place in Pomona. The two ladies who worked there could not have been nicer as they had me try the potato salad. When I tried the sandwich, I could not have been more satisfied. The meat was so tender, and the taste had just the right flavoring. Just as I remember when I was a little kid trying this sandwich for the first time. The place was located in an industrial area so there was a lot of street parking. I would definitely recommend trying this place out and talk with the ladies who work there as they were so friendly.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Sometimes writing too much doesn't do a great place justice. Tony's is that kind of place. Old school restaurant that specializes in sandwiches; saw dust on the floor, the feel of a family owned place and wreaks of history. You can't go wrong here. I got the special of the house: the French Dip au jus, with a side of paprika topped potato salad and a pickle spear. AWESOME!!! Nuff said!

Ant C.

Yelp
Service is great. Food is good but pricey. Mashed potato salad was good says they are known for it. Very good.
google avatar

Yelp
Hello everybody out here in Pomona used to live out here and totally forgot about this hidden gem came to have a roast beef dip with potato salad and I got to say this place is still bomb service is outstanding. This is crazy but the people that work here have been here for almost more than 20 years Still doing it the lady that made my sandwiches name Angie she's 86 years old and still rocking. The attitude of the restaurant is awesome. It's very nice so when I'm Pomona, you guys got to stop and check it out
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely terrific French dips. Very nostalgic from those of us who went to parochial schools in the 60s. I believe it's still very family owned and it's obvious the food is delicious. Try it. You'll never see another one like it.
