Tony's Market

New layout for the counter area is nice. New ownership changes seem to be positive. I went on a Tuesday and the produce was in pretty good shape and 30% or more less expensive than the grocery store. I'll miss Joey of course but so far things are great with the changes. New sure to stop by and check them out. Great for picking up flowers and potting soil too!

Get your pumpkins here folks! More memorable than the grocery store and cheaper than the pumpkin patch!

I love Tony’s Market. The produce is superb and fresh. The folks who work there are helpful and warm. What a gem of a market. Great value too.

Was just there at 4:35 PM on May 7. There was actually an employee smoking in the store. Seriously? Gross, so offensive. Who smokes in a produce store? That employee needs to be fired.

Same imported options as any local grocery store, but in worse shape. I was hoping for in season, locally sourced produce.

I've never been much of a fruit or vegetable person and now I see why after shopping QFC and Safeway all my life. I absolutely love blackberries and raspberries but so sick of throwing half the pack away because of bad quality so I decided to drive over to this fruit stand which I've known about and pass by often. So craving raspberries and not wanting the disappointment of qfc I decided to see what this place had. I saw the raspberries and the guy running the place was so extra nice and told me how great the grapes are and since I haven't ate a grape in at least a few years I decided to buy some of the jumbo sized looking grapes and the guy even got me the cold raspberries in the cooler to purchase. I purchased several things of raspberries and a bunch of grapes both red and green and let me tell you that the grapes were the best grapes ever in my life, no joke and everyone at home loved the grapes too. Super crunchy giant grapes and just awesome and I absolutely love the raspberries as well. I believe I will start eating more healthy now that I can go here. I will forever be a loyal customer to this local business. These grapes are most excellent after being chilled awhile.

Went out looking for a fruit stand Yelp says open till 7pm, but this business is closed hopefully they update business hours or operations.

All of your local produce needs! This market always has the freshest produce! We try to stop in here once a week to pick up some goodies and we are never disappointed. The produce is fresh, the staff is friendly, and you can't beat the location. Prices are good, but not any better than you would find at a grocery store.

Best service ever! They made it so much fun by taking our pictures, holding up trees, giving us treats and good stories. West Seattle is our home and Tony's market picks out literally only the best trees. I feel good buying from our friendly local market.

Update: Tony's market owner, Joey, quickly worked to refund this mistake after opening back up for the summer season. Appreciate his honesty and getting refunded. The produce stand looks great and I'll be back to pick up my fruits and veggies this summer.

Aaron is the highlight of this place! He helped us pick out the best melons and pineapple for what has turned out to be a delicious and beautiful platter! What a treasure to have this fruit and veggie stand within walking distance!

I am going to start shopping for produce at Tony's more often! Are usually just pick it up wherever I'm doing my grocery shopping... But I stopped in there today and the service is FANTASTIC! They are so nice! Such a pleasant experience that it definitely makes me want to shop there more. See you guys next time!

Horrible tree buying experience. We went there last year for a tree and had no issues but we were charged $175 for an 8 foot tree. WTF?! That is insane and not the price we were told. by the time he told us the final price, our card was swiped and the tree was already on our car. Complete sticker shock!

A great spot to get Halloween pumpkins. Lots to choose from, as well as other fall veggies and fruits. Lot is gravel and the spaces are unmarked, but getting in /out is easy. Highly recommend for pumpkin picking!

We recently visited Tony's Market for Ranier Cherries which were in season and on sale. They were the freshest and best tasting cherries my son and I ever had. We visited the market several times to get more. Their berries were also delicious and all locally grown. The produce is fresh and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly too.

I love Tony's Market! The gentleman working tonight kept the store open late so my son and I could do some last minute shopping for produce. Go shop there! incredible customer service! Thank you!

Tony is a crotchety old man who really needs anger management. I used to really love going to his market, but after his pubic display of lack of control in front of his staff, I will never go there again. I urge you the public NOT to go there. I was picking cherries (which is an art form- you can't just take a handful) and he began SCREAMING at me that I could not pick through the cherries. His staff was mortified and began to shrink back into corners of the tent. Now mind you, just days before a very nice person who works there even let me go into the freezer to pick the freshest cherries. I do not know if he was having a bad day or what, but no one deserves to be treated how I was treated by Tony. I will be reporting hin to the Better Business Bureau as well.

Where in West Seattle can you get a basket of blueberries, a red onion, a Walla Walla onion, some green onions, beef steak tomatoes, avocados, cilantro, bok choy, basil, garlic, shallots, peaches and plums all for $16.00? Well at Tony's Market that's where. I've been going to this place for years, the produce is always fresh and delicious and Tony's staff is useful and friendly. Plus they have a roasted corn stand set up on their lot I haven't tried it yet but it sure looked and smelled good. If you're in West Seattle and needs some fresh produce skip Safeway, QFC, Thriftway and the Metropolitan Market and head to Tony's you'll find what you need and it will be fresher and cheaper I guarantee.

Giving 2 stars because I still technically could have stopped the transaction before it happened. We went this year to pick up a christmas tree (as we did last year). We noticed there weren't really any tags or indication of what the costs were. We went to the same general area we did last year and picked out a tree that was about 6.5-7 feet tall (we have low ceilings). He chopped off part of the stump and brought us inside as someone else started loading it onto our car. Price- $130! I was shocked, and by this time the tree was already prepared and tied to our car, so really we would have been making a bit of a scene if we said anything. This place needs to have more clear signage-- although I'm beginning to feel like they don't want to so they can keep getting away with highway robbery. We'll go elsewhere next year.

I love having a local fruit and veggie stand up the street from my house and I will always support local biz over the big chains anyday!! They usually have a pretty nice selection of the regular fruits/vegs and the prices are comparable to the QFC and Safeway in the area The service is always friendly and just what you would expect in a small local stand. My only gripe is the hrs. I'm a bus rider and don't often get home before they close. I was excitied to have them so close so I could shop every other day for my produce, instead of buying it for the week and it spoiling before I can get to it. So if your listening Tony please one extra hr for us commuters!!!

Tony has been in the produce business for over 40 years. He started out in a family of what he calls 'dirt farmers' has lots of stories about his family homestead which gave way to one of the SeaTac runways. He worked his way up at one of the original Pike Place Market produce stands. Like, 40 years of working his way up... He buys direct from locals as much as possible all the way down to CA. Last year one of Tony's tribe was passing a farm in Eastern Washington with plum trees full of fruit and lots rotting on the ground. He went up and talked to the owner. Prices had been undercut, economy was in the tank, so no one picking plums. Tony's bought a couple trees, loaded the fruit in a truck and put out plums for fourty cents a pound. That's actually about the time I found Tony's. I buy the biodiesel across the street so went in to try out the produce stand. Had a long talk with The Man, then kept going back. At the time, economy was in the tank, no one had any money, everyone was worried about surviving. That will explain many of the posts below that are dated in mid 2009. Tough times for everyone. The prices are rock bottom. Apples for $1.49, all kinds of apples for $1.49, not just the Fujis. Go in and smell the carrots. Good carrots will smell sweet. Bad carrots will smell acidic. I buy carrots from Tony's. Never been disappointed. More could be said, but others have done a great job posting. Go get to know a small business owner that loves his work, even after 40 years.

A Great Produce Stand for the West side: Tony's is a great place to get your greens... and reds and yellow, orange, blue, purple, and well; all those good fruits and veggies. They always have a nice array of items and all at great prices - with local fare as well as some imported foods. They are a great one stop on the way home for me after doing the non-produce shopping elsewhere. The people are friendly and parking is usually easy; they have a nicely size gravel/dirt lot that will fit a good dozen or so vehicles. I am always sad when they close in December to sell Christmas trees and look forward to the re-opening so I can get my greenies and fruits there again!

This was my first time visiting since moving to the neighborhood. This place is absolutely awesome. Even if you're not sure what to buy on entering, you'll leave with a smile, a few items, and some cool recipe ideas (grilled peaches, egg-battered cauliflower)! There are your staples - tomatoes, onions, stone fruit and melons, as well as more unexpected items like garlic spears (which are great, by the way) and lemon drop melons. The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the possibilities are endless. I am definitely going to be shopping there as much as I can!

A West Seattle treasure. My favorites to buy here are cucumbers, onions, and green apples. Never a bad experience with the merchandise here. They also have some homemade style salsa, which is delicious!

Like most of the others said, this place isn't the cheapest, but they always have gorgeous looking, delicious, fresh produce. I always come away with more than what I came for (including real boiled bagels, which are hard to find in Seattle...). Plus, they almost always throw in some extra/overripe produce for free! Happy to support this local business.

Best avocados ever. We come here weekly to support local business over the grocery store, it's worth the trip.

Update: we were finally able to get in touch with Joey, owner of Tony's market. When he saw what had happened, he worked quickly to make it right, and fully refunded us within 48 hours. We believe it was an honest mistake, and appreciate Joey's work to make it right.

After several years of buying Christmas trees here, never again. They were always overpriced, but $140 for a 6' tree bought the night of Dec. 21st? That's just shameful. No customers on the lot, no prices posted anywhere. They just waited for us to pick one out, looked us up and down to asses how much they could get out of us, then demanded that outrageous price. Then they had the audacity to blame it on the farmers. Please, the farmers were already paid. The trees were going to end up in a chipper or at the bottom of a lake in three days. They were just taking advantage because they knew they could.

I agree wholeheartedly with Marie. Not only is the produce at Tony's fresh and ready to eat (and not like it will be bad by tomorrow 'ready to eat'), but Tony is great! If ever I am suspect about something, he will either hand pick the ripest piece (as he did with an avocado the other day), or offer a slice to try. Can't beat the prices. I just got the chips from Tony's...the best damn chips ever. Polly's? Made in Auburn. Always wondered why chips amongst the abyss of fruits and veggies - now I know.

Oh thank goodness. As the produce in the supermarkets continues to decline, it is so nice to have a neighborhood resource like Tony's Market. Their produce is always fresh and beautiful. The new owner Joey (Tony's son) is always quick to recommend and give samples. Great place to visit in West Seattle.

Stopped by here for a Christmas tree. As soon as we showed up no one wanted to help us then I heard one of the workers talking about us to another customer. We finally got some help and was told the trees we would want would be $49-$69. When we went to pay they tried to charge us $109. No thank you. Terrible service.

They use to be a great place to go to. Lately though, it seems like someone else is running it. They just don't seem to care anymore....very very sad.

Tony has been grumpy lately. I think someone close to him died. He's just not the same man anymore. Unfortunate, but thats not why I'm lowering the rating a star. Their produce is mostly good, sometimes great, but their fruit has been a little off this summer. Some mealy peaches and nectarines are a real turn off, and I find myself passing them by, even when they look fantastic. I think Tony is going for the good deals, but not the good quality in everything. So, now I buy one to test it, and if I like it, go back for more since I live a few minutes up the road. Still frequent this place, just more careful about my purchases.

I bought my Christmas tree here today and it was half the price of where I usually go. Service was great and they didn't even complain when I said turn it this way - now turn it that way! Beautiful trees and friendly people.

Sad to say that we got cheated. We were told a price on Christmas trees. Then he charged us 50% mire than what we agree (75 instead of 50) went back and asked was he sure the price was right. He said "yup 75 like we discussed." Not going back for trees or produce again.

This place is absolutely fantastic. Great quality, great prices. I'm super sad when they close down for the winter. Tony is a sweetheart, and Tony's Market is one of reasons I'm grateful I live in West Seattle!

If you are looking for great or good veggies at outstanding prices, shop here. If you want to pay much more and pick without someone offering an opinion, go to QFC. The produce at Tony's is better than QFC, and Safeway, and cheaper than both. All you need to do is eavesdrop on Tony when he is haggling with a vendor and you can see that quality is his first concern, then price. Sure maybe it isn't all local, but he strives for local because that is fresher. You will save money, and be happy with the quality of the produce from Tony's.

Really miss Tony and his ubiquitous Dean Martin on the sound system, may they both RIP. Tony's son Joey has carried on honorably, making small tweaks here and there that have improved the market, but still carries the spirit of its founder. The produce continues to be consistently fresh and additions of fresh bread, eggs and milk are a nice touch.

This is a great location for good quality and reasonably priced produce. I stop here 1-2 times per week to pick up what we need. Love having this place around and it's better than buying produce from Safeway or Thriftway. I always try to go here first and only resort to the grocery stores if Tony's doesn't have what I need.

I continued to shop here even though my review a few years ago wasn't very good but it is so close to my house. I am excited to that things have changed a lot, for the better. Now there is a lot of organic produce to choose from and more of everything. I think the quality has gone up too. The staff is friendly, helpful and smiley 95% of the time. Check them out if you haven't been there!

My favorite vegetable stand in Seattle. Great prices, good selection, friendly staff and most times you get to hear Frank Sinatra while your grabbing your mushrooms and lettuce. To anyone going to QFC to buy bagged lettuce. Stop. It taste like paper. Buy it fresh at Tony's.

The produce had been decent, with a few notable exceptions but last summer the owner accosted us while we were looking at corn. We were simply checking to make sure we got good ears (several we found to be mushy and browning where the stalk had been cut into) and then carefully placed ones we did not want back. An older man who identified himself as the owner grabbed the corn and said "this is good corn, buy it or get out of here. Stop making a mess!" We had been very careful and we certainly not making a mess, but I guess we had insulted him by actually looking at his produce. After a terse exchange of words we left this rude old man with his mushy corn. If this was how customers are treated here I will suffer grocery store produce where at least you don't have to worry about being harassed by ownership!

Great prices, excellent quality fruits and vegetables. No comparison to grocery store produce- so much better, it's ridiculous. Way cheaper than other snobby organic produce stands in W. Seattle. You gotta try it!

I can't believe no one has reviewed Tony's yet! Tony is the MAN. He always has meticulously selected, trimmed, beautiful produce and it is usually cheaper than any grocery store around. Tony and his kids all work there and are very friendly and want you to be pleased. He even throws in little freebies and gives discounts to regulars. I love it when he brags about he brussel sprouts, avocados and green beans. It's so painful when he closes between November and February!

Went in for a tree this morning. No prices listed. The guy said $12 a foot for a Noble, which is more than every lot in town. Saw a 9 foot tree and the guy said $129. WTH? Where did this guy learn his math. Shady people. Never going back for anything!

This is the best produce in the area - AND yes, I shop regularly at QFC. I have never gotten bad produce and the prices are great! Have found everyone there very accomodating. I have asked them to hold things for me in their cooler until I can pick up later. I agree with ashley s. don't know what the 1 star person did to have anyone there yell at them. Been going for years and I have been picky with not even close to that reaction from the people there!

Tony's is a mainstay in our house hold. I have talked it up to all our friends and family. When friends come to visit us in West Seattle they always want to stop and pick up produce from Tony's before they leave. He always has lots of great fruits and veggies to choose from. The prices can't be beat. If you like to eat fresh fruits and vegtables but can't stand grocery store prices then go to Tony's. Plus he gets fresh produce from the area when it is available. He also sells Christmas trees every winter. They are beautiful trees. Sure to make any holiday memorable. We walked in the crazy snow storm to his stand and he was there open and selling trees. Really can you ask for anything more?

I'm so excited!!! Tony told me they would have their yummy roasted corn up every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until they close! It is awesome and they fix it just how I like it. Everyone needs to go check them out and while you are waiting for them to prepare your perfect ear of corn you should check out their produce too. These guys are awesome. It's such a fun experience at Tony's and the best part is that he let's my little girl be a taste tester on berries. She thinks that so cool. LOVE TONY'S!!!

I love walking to Tony's. The staff is friendly and the produce is fresh and priced competitively. I found a bag of Meyer lemons for $2.29. I LOVE meyer lemons and the are sometimes hard to find. Great deals and it feels good to shop locally.

I love this place! Today the young guy that was working was really sweet to my son. Very good produce and excellent customer service.

As of late the produce and staff seem to be heading in the wrong direction. I wonder if they still value their clients as they once did. I strongly disagree with all the smoking that takes place so close to the produce. There are many other stands to go to and even ones with better prices.
