I was attracted to this bar for several reasons. One was the fact that Tony's is a mere quarter-mile from work, and the other - there is a miniature Tower of the Americas erected outside.
The inside of Tony's Bar is half-sports bar, half-lounge, and kind of reminds me of Cheers... but the Mexican version. ;) You have a small bar area for about 6-8 people, and the rest of the place is old-school tables and red neon diner-style chairs.
The big screen is usually on sports (a.k.a. Cowboys) and when it's not, count on ESPN or ABC.
The drinks are that of a no-frills bar - you have all the basic beers plus some Mexican bottles and a few mini-wine bottles. Alas, no Heineken. The prices are great, though. $2.50 domestic, $2.75 import, and $3 Smirnoff & those little Barefoot wine bottles.
Tony even sells snacks like chips, crackers, queso, etc.
Apparently, there is live music performed at Tony's often but I haven't seen any yet. So that's when the big jukebox in the right corner comes in handy.
Outside are a few wooden benches and, again, that cool replica of the Tower made out of steel.
Tony Lopez is a very down-to-earth guy, and his family are usually with him in the bar at night. He always tells his patrons to drive safely, even me after only downing a Dos XX and a Smirnoff.
But I like this place... it's very friendly... and cheap... and the parking is free in the lot or on the street!
They're open Tue-Fri and on Sundays when "games" are on... I assume that means Cowboys... ;)
