The Best Cocktail Bars in San Antonio | Eater Austin

"No other San Antonio watering hole is so aware of its legacy. When the long-standing Tony’s Bar made room for a new owner, this downtown spot kept much of the successful formula, including the building’s mural, affordability, and community spirit. Some of the details have been updated. A neon “Besos” sign allows for selfies, and boozy aguas frescas are ordered more often than beer. But its namesake still comes in regularly, a testament to not fixing what isn’t broken." - Brandon Watson

St. Philip’s College Campus: Where to Eat and Drink Around the San Antonio School | Eater Austin

"Things get sweaty at this near-downtown hot spot, especially after the DJs drop a reggaeton beat. Cool off with a fruity fresca made with rum, vodka, or tequila. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Brandon Watson

Google
We had a great time here! They have drink specials. Good music and such a chill vibe. I would definitely recommend for a couple on a date night or with friends. Mixed crowd. Outdoor area with food truck. They do have a cat in staff!

Google
Super small laid back environment, large outside area ive never gone out to.....i went three times before i saw the galaga game! (Which I LOVE!!!)i really love something to break up the monotony of sitting at the bar and having to tolerate whatever creep you end up next to. I think it was also one of those cool games, it has multiple games on it, and I also, if I'm not incorrect thought I saw that it was free play, which would be unbelievable anyway, my favorite bar or I go to play pool doesn't have their gallagh game anymore and it doesn't have their pinball. Machine either, and so I was thrilled at 1:50 AM to see that they actually had a galaga game there. I know. It's silly but it's the little things....k8nd of like thier little alcove with a padded seat and florescent lights to take pictures and I had never noticed that before either but super fun and cute..... Also, their décor have some little nuances that are really awesome like the back. Lit mirror that they had. I had just thought of doing this in the new salon. I was opening and I was really impressed to see that someone else had the same idea. Anyway, it's a beautiful little space. You wouldn't think much of it from the outside. But it's really nice and chill and I've never dealt with any creeps there.haha except maybe my drunk friend who is there all the time and whos the only reason ive ever gone in the first place. But happy discovery.

Google
Saw inside this bar while driving by and it looked so cool we decided to go in. It was a Sunday night and not very crowded but we loved the vibe, decor, lighting, patio and music! Great selection of drinks and the bartenders were awesome. Now one of favorite bars in SA!

Google
Went here for a Christmas after party. The bartenders are fabulous and sweet! Food is great! Stop by and hangout.

Google
Was referred here by the owners father. Just wanted to share that so I can assure this is an unbiased review. The time is just after 230 pm and we walk through the doors and we were shocked. The place just finished possibly the wildest night ever in the 1yr of existence, just mere hours ago. With that said the staff was eager and ready to make us feel at home. Any Karbach beer on tap is a win for me. Oh and they have Live Oak canned so again a win for me. The wife likes a drink that can mask the screams of toddlers and endless "mommy, mommy,, mommy"....and so on and she was whipped up with a mango rum thingy. It was tasty! Those drinks paired well with the pastor steamed buns and catfish from Mai o Mai Asian Fusion. That food was amazing. All of this while the DJ played the most chill mix ever on the covered patio with a afternoon fall breeze. Please go and support this small little cantina in the heart of San Anto!!!!

Google
I’ve been coming here since 2000 and I’m impressed with Andy’s hospitality and willingness to have feedback from his customers to make this place to the next level. Come and meet Tony the cat who also enjoys this place. Thanks Mr. Richard ONeil for inviting me to the night parade. No Siesta only Fiesta!!!

Angela

Google
Went there yesterday, it was great! We loved the music!! The bartenders were awesome, they had great tasty drinks! The service was great, and the food from the Food Truck was delicious!! Great environment! I would definitely go back many more times!

Yelp
Tony's Siesta, snugly perched at the north end of downtown San Antonio, redefines the bar scene with its seamless blend of laid-back charm and cutting-edge flair. It's a place where your craft cocktail fantasies meet a stellar lineup of bottled and draft beers, making it the ideal spot to unwind or kickstart an unforgettable evening. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by an atmosphere that perfectly straddles cozy and contemporary. The mixologists here aren't just bartenders; they're alchemists, crafting concoctions that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Whether you're in the mood for a classic or an adventurous twist, Tony's Siesta has you covered. The beer selection? Let's just say, if variety is the spice of life, then Tony's Siesta is positively zesty. With an impressive array of both bottled and draft options, even the most discerning beer aficionados will find something to celebrate. Tony's Siesta is more than just a bar; it's a destination. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this spot promises a vibrant, hybrid vibe that feels like the best kind of siesta--refreshing, delightful, and absolutely necessary. Cheers to that!

Yelp
Neat spot off the beaten path. Good service. Chill vibe. Historic building. Live music. Recommended if you're in the area.

Yelp
The mezcal cocktails are top tier! The frozen strawberry mezcal was recommended by a bartender and I'm so glad he did! It was perfect on a hot Texas day. Great ambience and music, as always. Definitely one of the best hidden gems of SA.

Yelp
We came across this bar randomly while out walking around town, it's hard to notice at first as it looks like a regular house from the outside, but I think google helped us find it after we were disappointed in another place nearby. I was a little hesitant to go in originally, but glad that I did, as this feels like the place we got the most non touristy San Antonio experience we had. It's far enough away from the river walk that I imagine the majority of people here were not there on spring break, but close enough that you can certainly walk from the river walk. It has a really nice vibe and seems like the type of place adults should go for a drink at night. It's dark inside and nicely decorated, adding to the ambience. On this night there was a person providing some kind of musical entertainment, but it was not so loud that you could not have a conversation, which is important to me at my current age when I go out at night. We tried a variety of drinks, but now I can not remember what they were, but they were all tasty, although pricey. I do remember that we decided to leave a few times, but were not successful and just ended up staying til nearly closing. It was not the best weather so we did not take advantage of the backyard area. I'd definitely come back here on my next visit.

Yelp
So I'm not gonna lie...the Aguas Frescas here are the best you've ever had!!! And the draft beer selection is on point! BUT...the bathrooms are nasty! I get the ambiance of the blue light but for the love of all that's good...put in a real light bulb when you clean them!!! Ugh. I can't have more than one drink here since that would require me to go to the bathroom again!!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a good time with bartenders who not only know how to mix a drink, but are friendly and fun. The frozen jamaica/mezcal drink is deadly (but delicious). Food trucks out back are solid. Regularly rotating and changing. Clean bathrooms, wide variety of seating and a low-key vibe with a soundtrack that is always just 'right' for the crowd.

Yelp
I'm not sure how long this bar has been around, but it reminds me of old school bars where you could enjoy a night out without breaking the bank. I'm sure at one point that's what it was. They do have daily specials, but drinks can get pricy. The front of the bar looks a little run down. Once inside, you have your typical bar feel. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the bar staff. It was during the day, so the inside of the bar wasn't busy, but the back patio was. They had a dj playing popular tejano, Cumbias, bachata. They also had a food truck on site which made it perfect for Sunday brunch. We took advantage of their mimosa set up. It included a bottle of champagne, orange juice, grapefruit juice and mixed fruit. I also wanted to try their $4 tecate light with Tony topper special. I'm glad I did. The tecate can is topped with tamarindo rim, a slice of pickle and Chinese candy. It does make for a good combination. Staff was always around to take your order. The only con is that the bathrooms were out of order and they had Porta Potty's. They were so gross. I held it and made it home, but that only meant that I had to limit my liquid consumption. Parking is street parking.

Yelp
A cozy bar I never knew existed. Tucked away on the corner of Brooklyn Ave and Avenue E. I've seen the neon sign quite a bit but never knew where those pics were taken. I think it's a perfect little bar for a quiet low key date night. I ordered a simple drink, staff was very friendly. The neon sign is very instagrammable. Worth the visit.

Yelp
What a COOL eclectic place and experience! Great service and fun atmosphere! What a hidden gem and great oasis right downtown SA!

Alana R.

Yelp
A local spot with great cocktails and vibe! The bartenders are super friendly. We visited during the holidays and they had some really fun and festive drinks!

Yelp
Cuul non-discreet bar with a light hearted ambience! Plenty of indoor outdoor seating. Food trucks that provide awesome bites starting around 730pmish... A "Happy Hour," WORTH YOUR TIME & $$$! Bartenders are "SPOT-ON," owner almost -ALWAYS-on premise to assure Satisfaction. Super Duper Pet Friendly. Stop by & have a -404- a Refreshing Delikte!!! A MUST IF YOUR LOOKN' FOR A CHILL VIBE & GOOD COMPANY IN DOWNTOWN S.A.!!! CCCHHHEEECCCKKK THIS SLOT OUT!!!!

Yelp

Yelp
Great dive bar that's one of my favorites in San Antonio. Cold beer and great food including chargrilled oysters, something I dont see much outside of Louisiana. Great for bikes as well which is key for me. I will be back.
google avatar

Jorge O.

Yelp
Four stars because it delivers what you need. Chill vibe, there are restrooms, decent music, and all the chelitas you could want. The outdoor seating is my preference. If youre down inside of 410. Tonys is a vibe.

Yelp
If I could give this establishment a negative rating, I would. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever encountered. I have never left a negative review nor have I ever been perceived as a negative customer. First off, the bartender decided I was drunk solely based on the fact that I burped. I was the designated driver so sorry, I wasn't drinking. Second that ignorant man served the two people I was with when they were clearly intoxicated. The bartender was very rude and probably needs better training to determine who is actually intoxicated and who isn't. Also you're in the service industry, if you're going to be rude, expect others to be rude back. This was a terrible experience and I will warn everyone before they go to avoid this place at all costs.

Yelp
Big things come in small packages... and Tony's is no exception! I've been here a couple of times now and I can fully say that this is the place to be if you're looking for a great time. Bartenders are super friendly and can rim a drink properly. Selection of liquors is surprisingly good. The music is always on point. Djs and live music are a weekly occurrence. They've also secured a legit taco food truck with amazing mini tacos! So do yourself a favor and just go. You can thank me later.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
I'll be upfront. I'd usually never walk in here. It's just not on my side of town, but I was lured by la Fonda de Jaime's trompo negro. Let me just say...that was an experience in itself. But I will say. Even without the trompo I would have been glad I walked in here. While I did think the prices were a little high for the area, what do I know about running a bar? Perhaps there's a special some day I don't know about. What I do know. These margaritas SLAP (as the kids say). Oh yes. A properly made marg? Now that's rarely found. Check it out, and while you're at it, try a house shot. They're probably 30% abv, but once you taste them you'll use them as a chaser rather than a shot. Thank me later.
google avatar

Holly G.

Yelp
Really bad experience. They wouldn't let a friend come in because of his shoes (he was wearing slides) because it would be dangerous for glass....literally 75% of the bar is in sandals/slides/open toed shoes. If you want to have a dress code, it should be posted (online this place is described as "casual") and at least give a reasonable explanation (somehow slides are dangerous but sandals are not) and it should be enforced for all guests. Just so happened our friend was the only African American guy and wasn't allowed in....but white people in sandals are fine. Really disappointed by this place.
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
Do NOT GO if you don't want the bartenders to steal money from you. They went ahead and added a tip on my card even though I had already tipped them 12 dollars on my 22 dollar tab. This is ridiculous and VERY unprofessional.
google avatar

Jaclyn R.

Yelp
Listen, don't come to Tony's expecting anything but a family owned dive bar. That being said, do come with plenty of cash because they are a cash only establishment with affordable beer and wine and you'll end up staying a lot longer than originally planned. I don't come to Tony's nearly enough as I should, because this place just reeks of nostalgia to me. From the iron made Tower of Americas outside to the handwritten signs peppered throughout, this is a place my grandfather and his compas would hang out at. Their micheladas are always affordable and come in a big frosty mug. Their micheladas are simple and to the point, clamato with no frills. You can tabasco to your own liking and they sell chili candy to add to your drink if you feel so inclined. This is a domestics/imports only bar, you won't find any craft beer here. And as a craft beer lover, this is just fine by me. Tony is the owner/bartender and he's as sweet as can be. Every time I've come in he's asked me what channel I want the TV on and will change it. No real wait for the drinks because they're all pretty simple. They have great bar snacks at an affordable price too. I couldn't agree more with another Yelper who described Tony's as the quintessential ice house. tl;dr: Cash only, cheap drinks, friendly atmosphere, puro San Antonio, come here often!
google avatar

Frances M.

Yelp
Now it's called, Tony's Siesta. No Bud light, Dos Equis(only draft), no Sol, no Miller High Life. 2 beers= $10.50. A Coors lite and a Pearl. No smoking on patio. Hmmm....We came and saw drank one and off to another .

Jose O.

Yelp
Several friends have had over charges in there tab. Bathrooms filthy, place smells dirty. Glasses dirty. Bartenders rude. Definitely not a place to go! Place is shady AF!

Newton F.

Yelp
if you ever want to relax and served like home,go to tony's for good food and superb service, enjoy a lovely setting and just chill.

Yelp
Fantastic micheladas! Such kind people. I LOVE this place. Shhh don't tell people. Cheers, I will be back. Their jukebox may not please all since lots of Tejano but I was happy!

Salvador C.

Yelp
I've been here a lot of times and the bartender NEVER tell you the price of the drinks until he make them, then take them to your table with your friends so you have to pay them, I get you gotta make your money but thats fucked up, I got overcharged for some simple ass shit like i was at a Boujee ass place, for what I paid there I could take my friends to "The Moons Daughters" and leave a tip
google avatar

Brett H.

Yelp
Awesome local home style place. Two dollar domestics. Three imports of the Mexican type. Juke box. Pool table some video games. Laid back kind of place. So how many places make you a home micheladas.
google avatar

Yelp
The reviews of this place piqued my interest and I knew I would have to visit. So we walked over from the Alamo brewery (or whatever it is called). Now, that walk was an adventure in and of itself but we made it. The sign out front said "Open for Beer". Yes, please. So, wow. This place. This is a proper, off the beaten path dive. It was super dark inside. There are tables, a bar at the back (very small), a stage off to the left, and TVs on the wall. A pool table was in there too. Apparently, this is a Cowboys bar too. Good for them. Anyway, there were two people inside when we rolled up...and one of them was Tony. Cold, and I mean fucking cold, Miller Lite in the bottle and he provided us coozies to use as well. Cash only (I think). We drank our cold beer and decided to play the jukebox. It is full of Latin music, but not the Latin music that is filling up my iPod. More old school Latin but we played the fuck out of it like we knew what was going on. Oh, and some random George Strait. As we sat there drinking all of a sudden a round of beers materialized from the other patron in the bar that wasn't Tony. So we shot the shit with him. Then another person came in and another round materialized for us. Very nice although not necessary. We enjoyed the front patio tables a little bit too. But in the end it was getting dark and we had somewhere else we needed to be so we rolled out into the night and bid Tony a fond farewell. This place is a legit dive. LEGIT. No frills, just cold beer, football, and a chill time.

Yelp
I was attracted to this bar for several reasons. One was the fact that Tony's is a mere quarter-mile from work, and the other - there is a miniature Tower of the Americas erected outside. The inside of Tony's Bar is half-sports bar, half-lounge, and kind of reminds me of Cheers... but the Mexican version. ;) You have a small bar area for about 6-8 people, and the rest of the place is old-school tables and red neon diner-style chairs. The big screen is usually on sports (a.k.a. Cowboys) and when it's not, count on ESPN or ABC. The drinks are that of a no-frills bar - you have all the basic beers plus some Mexican bottles and a few mini-wine bottles. Alas, no Heineken. The prices are great, though. $2.50 domestic, $2.75 import, and $3 Smirnoff & those little Barefoot wine bottles. Tony even sells snacks like chips, crackers, queso, etc. Apparently, there is live music performed at Tony's often but I haven't seen any yet. So that's when the big jukebox in the right corner comes in handy. Outside are a few wooden benches and, again, that cool replica of the Tower made out of steel. Tony Lopez is a very down-to-earth guy, and his family are usually with him in the bar at night. He always tells his patrons to drive safely, even me after only downing a Dos XX and a Smirnoff. But I like this place... it's very friendly... and cheap... and the parking is free in the lot or on the street! They're open Tue-Fri and on Sundays when "games" are on... I assume that means Cowboys... ;)
google avatar

Holly L.

Yelp
The best local bar I've been to in San Antonio, Tony is always there watching football or the Spurs games, all the regulars know each other and are very friendly. They welcome newcomers. Beer is reasonably priced. Usually at least one female bartender there, I believe his daughter. Another I've seen a handful of times, Usually wearing some Buddy Holly style glasses. Both good sense of humor, quick witted, The best kind of smart asses around, but always welcoming and friendly. Never rude. Beer only, cash only. Bring your own liquor. They sell the mixers to make drinks. And I believe I've seen them cook out for big events. Family owned and operated, they make a great team. I look forward to this bar continuing to grow and flourish
google avatar

Brett W.

Yelp
This place is a San Antonio absolute gem. Go back in Time at Tony's bar...that is back to a time when you could get a 2.50 beer at a sports bar. Before sports bars served hipster cocktails and craft brews. Plus they have an actual pay phone. Enough said.
google avatar

Veronica J.

Yelp
I was in search of a place to watch the Cowboys game and found this place on Yelp. I found way more than I was looking for. The owner Tony is very personable and treats all the customers like family. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing. One of his bartenders Mary was inside when I arrived and remembered me from my phone call earlier in the day. She even served me a plate of chips and queso when the game started. Service doesn't get any better than that. There is only beer and wine on the menu but what else do you need. This place is a must !

Yelp
Great neighborhood dive bar! My girlfriend is in love with this place, it's old, cute and friendly. Old man behind the bar is adorable, drinks are cold and cheap. Will be back for sure!!

Yelp
What a gem of a dive bar. This is my favorite new find in San Antonio. Come here for great micheladas, cheap Mexican beer, and friendly faces.

Cary W.

Yelp
This is great place to hang out, listen to great tunes on the nickelodeon and enjoy a cold brew!!! Awesome place!!!

Kendra K.

Yelp
This place is a fabulous dive bar. Super chill friendly clientele. TV's for sportsball of all varieties, and the help (I'm assuming Tony was our bartender -- lovely man) was great. Not to mention that 2 coronas and a miller light were $8. $8. Amazing. Don't let the outside scare you off.

Tami G.

Yelp
Tony es mi corazon. One of the top bars in town. Bring your own bottle and have Tony make you a plate!
