"Ethnic Dining Guide author Tyler Cowen highly recommends trying the “excellent Pakistani place” in Sterling, Virginia, where he likes the potato dish, samosas, and nihari beef stew the most. And “chicken tikka is usually a boring dish but here it shines.” It’s also an overall fun scene, he adds." - Tierney Plumb

Google
This is still a good place. I have been going here for about 6 years now. The quantity has gone down by 50% for a dine in and the price is still up! My eyes were on disbelief on how small the quantity is. Parking is ok. Service was fine and confusing! A good reason I might just not keep going anymore!

Umer Ahmed

Google
The place still has authentic Pakistani taste but over the period of time the quality has deteriorated. As an example, the utensils and tea pots in which they serve tea are rusty from inside . These untensil containers make them unhygienic and a health hazard. It seems no one cares what the customer is being fed with. These are two apparent things that everyone visiting would see... I wonder how the kitchen or the pots in which they cook food look like ... how rusty they would be .

Google
bought Halwa puri from Toosoo got two orders and all the food we got was in the small sauce containers. They used to come in smaller black containers. How are you supposed to eat 4 puris with this little amount of food. Absolutely ridiculous and super disappointing when the price has increased yet the quantity has decreased significantly

Google
Ate dinner while visiting from New Jersey. The customer service was very bad and rude. We were told to bring our needed chairs all the way from the back. It was too hot. The owner had the key for the AC thermostat and he was out of the country. Worst service. Dirty floor. Sticky tables.

Hesam

Google
An embarrassment of an establishment and very disappointing- The food was below average and the service one of the worst I’ve seen. They got the order wrong and did vegetarian instead of beef but I was way too hungry to wait for them to correct. The person taking our order was the furthest from friendly; she had quite an attitude. This is service business, but that is lost on them! The meal itself tasted below average and messy. All in all, an uninspiring experience and my last time trying food here. Feel robbed. And btw what they have as Faludeh is one of the most ridiculous and overly priced items in DMV.

Google
A favorite for my husband and I. We have been eating here (usually take out) for years. Every time we finish eating we say how good it is and question how can it be that good every single time. It just never disappoints. I have tried a few different items, all the rolls, the chicken tikka and chicken biryani. But now I always get the tikka roll and the regular spicy fries. It’s spicy deliciousness and it is crazy how I still crave eating here (and get the same meal) years later. When my brother visits, he likes to get one of the weekend specials, the Nihari or the Haleem. Which is great because I can never not get my roll and fries, but he shares his. The weekend specials are so comforting and delicious. My husband gets the chicken tikka regularly with rice, and it’s always perfect. Really love this place!

Asma Testouri

Google
The place doesn’t feel clean, the floors are oily as well as the tables. Very long wait for the chicken tikka (it’s made to order but the wait time is still bit bearable). Hope they take the hygiene seriously as it’s not pleasant to sit in a place full of oil and sauces.

Google
Falooda tasted delicious! Good portion to share with 2-3 people. Plentiful of toppings/kulfi and it was refreshing to eat on a hot day!

Yelp
The food is good amount. Not too little not too much. The price is reasonable compared to other places in the area. It's a small little shop, but I like the vibe. The service is good as well.

Sania M.

Yelp
Pretty good! Growing up Pakistani and from home with many good cooks I would say this restaurant was on par with yummie desi food. Unfortunately they were out of nahari on my recent visit but do try it on the weekends if in the area or looking for a yummie desi meal. Also check out the tamarind chutney. It's really yummie and different from the standard tamarind chutney.

Yelp
Tosso has a typical pakistani food menu and we have been going here for a while. A lot parking spaces and other eateries nearby. The interior is of a Dhaba style but looks clean and good. We ordered biryani, chaat and samosas. Biryani was spicy and reminded me of London, so that's a good thing! In addition the samosas and chaat was crisp and delicious. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star is the European size of portion. Too small otherwise good place to grab a traditionally paki food. Service was also good and they delivered fast.

Yelp
I wish I would have nothing the Spanish standing at counter terreble attitude we as a customer support do right customer service flar face no eye contact I was ordering and she totally ignored I have a lots of customers dealing experience like as Pakistani restaurant we don't want want any one who don't know about the culture and tradition of our country I m so disappointed and thinking of not to come at this restaurant I this kind of attitude I face again or never come back besides I love my country and food but disrespectful and attitude can't be acceptable any place like this

Ankush K.

Yelp
Vegan Friendly: Yup, the good thing about brown food is that it's naturally pretty vegan and will find a good amount of main dishes and sides to eat but sadly will have to look elsewhere for dessert. Exterior and Interior: Very fun interior and has some authentic vibes that people will like. Food Breakdown: * Falooda (4.5/5): Man oh man they make the best Falooda here. The only thing is that the presentation was not great cause it was overflowing and they didn't bother to clean it finally I wish they gave us more cause the cup is pretty small ngl. But taste-wise is solid and always down to get some if I am in the area. * Mirchi Fries (4/5): I loved the cut of the fries as I don't like thick fries and the Mirchi was solid compared to other places. And way better than the fast-food fries but if you love Mcdonald's Fries this is the way it should be. * Mango Lassi: (1/5) PLEASEEEEE do not get this, it is not good at all. There are better options to get and this one is not it. Portion Size: Good for the most part not. bad but I wish Falooda was a little more in the cup sadly. Price: Good! Very happy with the price I paid for my food. Service/Food Delivery: The cashier was honestly not good, no passion minimal effort to serve but hey he could be having an off day. Would I go Back: Yup, but ONLY FOR FAlOODA AND FRIES cause it was that good! Ankush's Final Thoughts: So I would come back but for me, I would only come for the dessert cause the food itself is ok. But I know my friend who went here liked the food for what it is. But one thing we can agree upon is NO LASSI PLEASE. Oh, and they have no WIFI for guests which is wack.

Abubakar S.

Yelp
Stale food Worst service Dirty utensils Tea like water Rude staff There was a time this place was really good in term of fresh food and specially Nihari But now among worst restaurants in Northern Virginia Most of the the good reviews are either paid or from past

Sunny T.

Yelp
This place always delivers! Cute little Pakistani cafe with great flavors. Solid chicken tikka, roti rolls (my fav is the chaana roll) and love their weekend halwa puri. The falooda is also a must! You can't go wrong!

fareshta a.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while but the food is always good. My favorite is the haleem and the chicken tikka.

Ad F.

Yelp
I am a regular customer, however I'm becoming increasingly disappointed with the service. Food is great as usual, but the cashier girl quickly selected a tip option without letting me select in a very sneaky way. The place is sticky and nasty. How difficult is it to do a deep clean once in a while? Where is the owner/manager?

muhammad k.

Yelp
The place itself isn't bad but the lady working the counter has no clue about the menu and could not answer a single question. She spoke spanish and was clueless about anything i was saying. I would recommend but staff is just bad with no idea of what they are even serving here.

Irsa J.

Yelp
Love their weekend brunch especially the nihari. Bun kebab and falooda are also good. Totally reminds of canteen food in Pakistan. I wish they had more options for kids though. Even the malai chicken roll is too spicy for my daughter. The decor is pretty cool as well. The have bottle caps and Kites on their walls. Definitely a fun place to check out.

Umar M.

Yelp
Toosso has evolved into this place with a limited food menu and that is great because I can see the amount of focus they put on their food and it is the true Pakistani flavors that this place has to offer that you don't necessarily find anywhere. I took my friend's family to Toosso and ordered Biryani, Kofta Curry, Chicken Tikka, Dahi baray, pakoray. Everything was beyond amazing and rightfully spiced. Everyone enjoyed their food so much. For desserts we had faluda and mango kulfi. My friend and his daughter loved both things. They were really happy with the food. So, mission accomplished. Last but not least chai was amazing and it hit all the right spots. Will come again for both breakfast and to try the bun kebab as well.

Muhammad A.

Yelp
It's okay. If you're craving Pakistani food and in the area, proceed with caution. They used to be so much better.

Rick K.

Yelp
We went today and we're excited but the chole (chickpeas) were stale and smelled bad. Somehow we eat few spoon and rushed home to throw up. Left the food and did not complaint to the management as the person behind counter did not take complaint seriously. Hope we don't get food poisoning now. The quality has been gone down and we will never go back to this place. I normally never write so bad reviews but this was bad experience.

Syed M.

Yelp
This chaat trash trash . No samosa, no masala, no onion, no green yougurt/chutney. SMH No flavor and yogurt too sweet

Zafar N.

Yelp
Was a great place, but the last few times has made us all question "is it worth it?" There are better options available especially since the food is no longer consistent like it used to be.

Noor S.

Yelp
A great neighborhood restaurant. I love their bun kabob, biryani, tikka, and dessert items. Many other new restaurants have modeled themselves after Toosso. Toosso will always be the original.

Ketki J.

Yelp
Nice Indian/Pakistani street food place near the Regal Dulles movie theatre. It's a small restaurant with street food menu. Being a vegetarian, I certainly recommend the Dahi bade(or the Dahi Baray as they mention it) and Falooda! I also have tried the mirchi fries and the rolls (aloo ie potato and chana masala ie chickpea rolls) are fine too. The roll stuffing includes spicy chutney and onions. Weekend breakfast - We've also tasted the Halwa puri weekend breakfast, but it is too oily for my taste. Here's what it includes - HALWA PURI Traditional Pakistani breakfast, includes a delicious combo of halwa, channa, potatoes, yogurt salad, and hot puries [Served 9:30-2:30 Saturday and Sunday Only.] Parking - since it's located in a strip mall, there's plenty of parking. Outdoor seating - it has a tiny outdoor seating(couple of tables).

Yelp
Best way to enjoy desi Punjabi cuisine at Toosso kitchen and it's fresh and warm and delicious with under $25

Michelle T.

Yelp
I only came here for dessert because my friend said the dessert here is amazing! I'm not sure the name since she ordered but it's basically ice cream with jello bits, chia seeds, some white stringy thing? It was delicious nonetheless but it's also pink? So I'm not entirely sure if it's pink because of the red syrup at the bottom and because the ice cream is some rose milk concoction? Regardless super yummy! I'll want to come back and try other things on the menu The only downside is it took them forever to get us our ice cream. People who ordered meals after us got their order before we did.

Victoria R.

Yelp
Well, I take back what I said a long time ago because the service has gotten consistently worse and the food/cleanliness of the establishment has gone really far downhill. All the open tables were dirty, there was again no ice in the soda machine, and the cashier ignored us as we stood at the counter. Had to ask if she'd take our order. She looked shocked and like she just woke up. We arrived at 2:50PM, ordered 1 Haleem, 1 Tikka Boti Roll, 1 Biryani bowl, 1 naan and 2 drinks. It took until 3:40 to get out food. The cashier said, after going back and forth to the kitchen, "they must have misplaced the order in the kitchen." Then we FINALLY got our food. I don't intend on ever coming here again unless the have management around supervising and they make a serious 180.

Al C.

Yelp
Delivery was quick.. Food was decent. Way overpriced. The chickpeas was cooked on que but way too much cumin and coriander little salty. Ordered actually 4 orders one spicy wish they would have marked the spicy one, as the kid said his mouth was on fire lol. Ordered a ground beef dish with rice the beef was scarce and little salty. The sides of rice were perfect. The food was ok the price crazy especially service fees delivery fees and tip fees without asking

Shaikh M.

Yelp
literally they are charging 3.5$ for Costco water. which barely cost .5 cent. that's terrible

Asad N.

Yelp
Great food, service and Faluda (Pakistani dessert - ice cream). Their weekend dishes are great. I recommend any dish, especially their Mirchi (spicy) fries. Again - best Faluda in the area, hands down!

Roti B.

Yelp
I can't believe so much has changed. Their food has been consistently bad. Not sure if owner changed but wow every time we order chicken tikka it's always stinky! Never cooked fully. We had to return it three times so far. We have them a second chance and they couldn't deliver. We will stop ordering from this resturant. We went in to complain. They told us there's no manager working at this site. Only the owner comes in. But when we asked for owner he wasn't there. You can tell this restaurant is going down. Save your money and time go somewhere else

Zainab A.

Yelp
I am not a big fan of this place. First of all, they have a very limited menu and out of that, only couple of things are good such as tikka and nihari. But over the last few years or so, even nihari went down the hill. The taste and spice level isn't the same anymore. It's a hit or miss now. I find this place good for quick bites (snacks). Their bun kababs are delicious as well as pakoras, kulfi, and faloda. That's about it. Halwa puri are too greasy. Biryani, haleem and other items from the main menu are way below average. The interior is pretty cool like a small cafe but cleanliness isn't one of their priorities. The steel spoon and forks that are found on each table is full of finger prints. The napkins are never enough. You either have to grab from another table or ask for more from the counter. Eating here in a rush hour is very stressful. People stand on your head, wait for you to leave so they can grab your table. It's very annoying. And, if you decide to carry out and place an order on the phone, you will never find it ready until you get there and make a payment. I find this place very over rated!

Emily K.

Yelp
I was torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. It's probably like a 3.5 star for me. The tandoori chicken was really good. It was very flavorful and tender. But the rest of the food was just okay. And I just didn't like the environment. It's very small and it was crowded. I will definitely get my food to go next time m.

Khadij A.

Yelp
Cute little unique Pakistani joint with great food. The servers aren't Pakistani themselves but seem to know the food well. I love the way the place is decorated with unique Pakistani trinkets. I got the chicken Kati roll and mirchi fries. They portions are big and cheap! $4.65 for a huge roll that will definitely fill you up. Ask for additional chutney or raita, tastes so much better. Mircchi fries are huge, definitely shareable. Ordered a chai Togo and got a huge cup! Cons: food took its time coming to the table

Ariff I.

Yelp
Ambient were good. Staff need more training and management please educate your cashier and tell her not to chew gum while on shift/taking orders. Thats FNB101. Beware of the wait time for the food. Its super long. And its not worth the wait. Food were below average. We ordered Nihari, Karahi Kofta, Pakoras and Mirchi Fries. Nihari -soft tender beef but gravy was lacking salt n taste -the gravy are like thin soup -naan that came with it taste like being cooked on dirty surface Karahi Kofta -meatballs was soft and the tomato based gravy were just ok Pakoras -not worth the hype Mirchi Fries -spicy fries were just okay but i was hoping it is crunchier and not mushy n soggy All and all, would not recommend the restaurant to friend and family

Asad Q.

Yelp
If you crave for an authentic Pakistan Brunch, with the real taste of Halwa Chana Puri, Nehari, Haleem -- visit it!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
We got some food to go and it was very good! Chicken Biryani was super flavorful and well seasoned, not too spicy. The sauce that came with it was very refreshing with little chunks of diced cucumbers. My husband got a wrap and he enjoyed it, and made the comment that it would be good "car food" because it's portable. Overall exceeded expectations and is a great option for fast casual ethnic dining.

Karunakaran D.

Yelp
Tried their Falooda based on a recommendation from a friend and it was definitely worth the hype. Unlike other locations, their Falooda was not too sweet.

Dilasa Y.

Yelp
We tried an aloo chaat and a falooda and they were both worth it and tasty overall. The falooda tasted slightly watered down and as such i wish it was a little sweeter. Otherwise it was a pretty good faluda! 7/10. The kulfi ice cream made it a 7/10. The aloo samosa was big for $1.70! The aloo (potato stuffing) was generous! Which is important because i hate when samosa's are stingy with the stuffing. Will be back for a falooda craving most likely

Sabeen K.

Yelp
Very tasty Pakistani food. They deliver what they claim and pretty fast service for a Desi restaurant. Over all great option in the area for Pakistani specialities and street food

Tariq B.

Yelp
I do go to this Restaurant on weekends to get Nehari and chicken tikka. They have improved their Nehari by significantly reducing spices in the Nehari. But one thing they must improve is their customer service. Many times missing Naan in the order and last night they give me chicken tikka for Nehari, I have to drive back 15 minutes to g

Imran M.

Yelp
Tooso advertise itself as Pakistani street food and the menu is basically just that. I had the weekend breakfast there. The standard halwa puri and also tried the bun kebab. It was just very basic. Any Pakistani or Indian foodie would tell you that the puris are supposed to be crisp. Not soggy. I was the second order on Saturday morning and there was no queue behind me but the puris were soggy and white. The bun kebab was reasonable and great job on that. Other than an extreme craving for some Pakistani food that must be put down i would stick to having a mc breakfast with hash and coffee.

Rabia J.

Yelp
Wow, all I can say is Wow!!! Fine, I admit it, I'm impatient and somewhat of a food brat. I've left Toosoo a 2 star review a few years ago. My mom begged me to go there again. And I'm always ready to make a mediocre experience into a memorable one. Ya, people will tell you their faloodas(desi ice cream sort of thing) is the shi*. Or you have to try their bun kabob etc etc etc. What made me love Toosoo this time is their Nihari. It was yummilicious. I hardly ever eat Nihari and its offered only on their weekend special. So make sure to try it on a weekend. They are crazy busy and a small restaurant with first comes first serve basis. This past trip when I went to VA, I ended up going to this restaurant twice. Both times they hit it out of the ball park and into my tummy with their flavorful food. Also, another difference I encountered was a great addition to them was their customer service. I want to acknowledge their employee he recently started working there a few months back, I believe his name was Ali. He is not related to the owner's family but he cleaned tables, got our ordered placed right, brought food to us in a great manner. He was fast, efficient and smiling throughout. All in all, Toossoo, it took a while for me to change my mind but your not soo soo. Toossoo your a fusion inspired Pakistani restaurant with a great concept and a greater tasting foodie place.~

Chinmay J.

Yelp
Went during lunch hours and ordered a Biryani (Chicken). It was served in a bowl without a plate which made it uneasy to eat from. The interior has a punch and modern look but cleanliness is not one of their priorities. The steel spoons and forks can be found on each table in a tin can, which you should better clean yourself before using. The cooks and staff are Latinos/Hispanic.. seems bit odd for a Pakistani specialty restaurant. Coming to the food itself, the Biryani though looks good with the colorful yellow, white and orange rice flakes, isn't the same to taste. It lacks the flavor, spice and the tenderness of a real good Chicken Biryani! I would rate it 3.5 out of 10.

Gurram P.

Yelp
Everything I've heard is a 100% true. I visited this place as per my friends recommendation to try out Falooda here, and it tastes pretty good for a first timer.

Bob M.

Yelp
Simple place. Smaller menu but good prices. I had the tiki Marsala lunch special and it was a half chicken with beans rice and naan. The meat was a little dry and over spiced. The sandwiches looked good. Bathroom cleanliness a give a D. Service was fair to good. I would not write them off. I will try the sandwich next time.

Zeyad O.

Yelp
I think people should review restaurants based on the quality of food, customer service and total experience. Clearly, this is not how this place received it's 340 good reviews! After reading many reviews, I decided to try them for lunch. I arrived at around 1:30 on Tuesday. There were few people sitting and nobody at the counter. I waited for about 5 minutes and I can see the employees from the service door window... and they also saw me. Finally, the cashier/cook came and asked me what I want. I ordered their lunch special based on her recommendation. I inserted my card and paid. She then tells me that they are sold out. I asked for a refund that took her another 5 minutes to process. Very bad service experience.

Khalida O.

Yelp
t's 8:43pm while I'm writing this review and I went inside the Rockville tosso store at 8:30pm. The lady at the register told us that we can order food but their dining area closes at 8:30pm, that it'd have to be a take out. With a hungry kid who saw another kid eating food, started crying because we had to leave. I asked the lady at the register if I could get her name or speak to a manager but was told why should she have to give her name and that there's no manager on duty who I could escalate this to. The escalation was to inform the manager that there is no mention of "dining place closes at 8:30pm." They advertise 9pm. So this message needs to be clear and customer service is lacking at this place. I used to go to their previous location and to the new Rockville location. I won't be giving my well earned money to a business that doesn't respect customers. Since I didn't have her name, I took a picture of this store to inform the business owner we won't be returning. You lose one customer, you must have lost many for this type of behavior.

B E.

Yelp
I love their Nihari and naan. Also one of the best falooda in town. Chai also was really good

Lyna L.

Yelp
As someone who has never been to a Pakistani restaurant before, I enjoyed this place. It has cute decor and good service. However, I only ordered chicken biryani, which is usually a safe bet anyway. It wasn't overpoweringly spicy, but I did have to drizzle a healthy amount of yogurt sauce on it. I'd say the portions and quality were worth the price.

Ned D.

Yelp
Quality of the food seems to have seriously deteriorated, went there after a long time. Haleem was bland to say the least, Pooris were dripping with oil and so was the halwa, seems like the kitchen staff have no clue what they are cooking. Understand staff is hard to find these days but owners need to do some quality control, lunch was an utter disappointment for the whole family.

Yahya N.

Yelp
First off, I love the name of this place! Tooso means Stuff Your self, yaaar! Excellent food and ambiance! The way they drew in Pakistani Street culture into the decor is really cool. I liked this place a lot because it is the first time I have seen Pakistani Street food brought to the restaurant scene. My wife and I shared the bun kabab special and I ordered the tikka botti roll. Both were delicious, well seasoned and tender. My family ordered the biryani, which was pretty decent, good blend of spices, and the malai murghi roll. All of the flavor and fun of a Pakistani Street meal with none of the dysentery!

Kamran K.

Yelp
Food is good. They need to improve customer service. Front staff is very causal with customers and little bit rude.

Amana C.

Yelp
Food - 5 Service - 1 Ambiance - 3 This place is a mad house on the weekend. It's small and cramped with limited seating. We came in with 11 people and had to wait for 20 mins and fight off others before getting a table. Customer service is non existent. You order at the counter and wait to take your food to your table. You have to grab your own plates and utensils. It is a cute place but you can't appreciate it while you're trying to squeeze around tables. Saying all that, the food is amazing! The chicken tikka boti was so good, seasoned so well and juicy-probably my favorite. The Nihari, haleem and halwa poori were all delicious as well. Briyani was just ok. Falooda and kulfi were great. Nihari and halwa poori is only served on the weekend.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Great take out food. Across between Indian and afghan food. Cheap but delicious if you looking for authentic Asian cuisine.
