Lockdown Success Top Cuvée Will Open ‘Secret Wine Bar’ in Bethnal Green | Eater London

"Scheduled to open in August at 250 Bethnal Green Road, this new site combines a shop, tasting and events venue with a Paris-inspired “secret” basement wine bar. Designed as a dream project for wine lovers, the space will extend the group’s pandemic-era retail and delivery strengths while offering the hallmarks fans expect—cartoon branding, a basement bar, small plates, wine on tap, mezcal negronis, artisanal water, online shopping and bottles with distinctive labels." - Adam Coghlan

Went on a Tuesday night because the bookings looked totally free. Suddenly they tell us downstairs is having an “event” and shove us upstairs, where there aren’t even proper tables, just shelves with random chairs. And even though it’s dark as hell up there, they can’t be bothered to give us a single candle. We ordered a bottle of wine they literally just twisted the cap, didn’t even open it properly, and dumped it on the table. What kind of half-assed service is that? Who hires staff who don’t know the absolute basics? And don’t even get me started on the crisps. Said £5, came out £7.80. When we asked, the staff had NO idea why. 🤦‍♀️ They provide zero service but still have the nerve to charge a 12.5% service fee?? Make it make sense lol It’s basically a takeaway wine shop pretending to be a bar. Sort your management out you can’t run a business like this. RIDICULOUS 😂😂

What a spot! Cocktails are amazing and the happy hour deal is fab! Really recommend the orange wine margarita and the vermouth soda. Also had the house white wine but it wasn’t very nice.

We came here expecting a nice evening, but the experience was really let down by the pricing. The wine we ordered was listed at £27, yet on the bill came to £47. When we asked why, we were told it included corkage and VAT, neither of which were mentioned. Not to mention that this is excluding the 12.5% service charge that was added to the overall bill. It all felt quite deceptive and left a bad taste. If there are extra fees, they should be made clear upfront. For a place that presents itself as a quality wine bar, this level of transparency should be a given. Very disappointing overall.

My new fave wine bar in London! Came here with my partner, had the most delicious small plates (focaccia, olives, and hot dogs - veg options available) and a delicious sparkling natural wine (pictured!). The guy who served us as so warm and helpful, tunes and vibes were mint! Highly recommend!

Wine shop ground floor and parisienne feeling dark and tight wine bar downstairs in the basement. Narrow and tight there is modest bottle list and six or so by the glass. The main food offering was hot dogs, which we weren’t expecting (had read a more small plated and set menu offering) but presume they change that regularly perhaps. Vibe swings between date-y and couples having or trying to have intimate conversation to groups screaming at each other and increasingly higher levels. There are no soft furnishings so it’s noisy. Very noisy. Otherwise usual wine bar offerings of sauscisson and various cheese. Lovely staff. A note on dogs, it’s dog friendly but oh boy is it noisy and tight down there. A couple had taken their golden retriever so thankfully we had left our also medium large dog at home…

Kind of overhyped. The hot dog was really weird and it was like they just put a whole tube of salame in it with the casing still on and smothered it with sauce. The waffle fries were also really soggy. House white was alright. There was one person on the staff who was very nice and the other two gave really weird vibes and also took our plates away while there was still some food left on one of them.
