The Best Restaurants in Pasadena, California | Eater LA

"Located near Pasadena City College, Top Restaurant brings delicious Hawaiian and Indonesian cooking to a quieter stretch of Colorado Boulevard. Chef-owner Riko Yuriko only prepares 45 orders for his crisp and golden Indonesian fried chicken, which often disappears well before the day’s end (come early, basically, if fried chicken is what you seek). The Spam musubi also never fails to hit the spot. The place has been takeout-only since the onset of the pandemic, so prepare to eat from the comfort of your home or car." - Mona Holmes

The Best Fried Chicken in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Get to Pasadena’s Top Restaurant early to enjoy its fried chicken — only 45 orders are available each day. The 35-year-old restaurant marinates its chicken for 12 hours in a secret blend of kecap manis (sweet soy sauce), garlic, and more before frying it until crispy." - Rebecca Roland

Top Restaurant in Pasadena Serves the Best Indonesian Fried Chicken - Eater LA

"At Pasadena’s 35-year-old Top Restaurant, magic happens when chef-owner Riko Yuriko drops chicken into a hot, low-sputtering fryer. A constellation of oil droplets erupts from the battered chicken as it penetrates the oil’s surface. The generous poultry pieces, marinated for 12 hours in a homemade brine of kecap manis (sweet soy sauce), garlic, and other secret ingredients, crackle and brown until they develop a thin, flaky coat. Top Restaurant has been takeout-only since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, so many diners enjoy the chicken immediately in the front seat of their cars. Fried chicken is often the first dish to sell out daily; once all 45 orders are out the door, it is not available again until the next day." - Lisa Kwon

This place is actually amazing. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had, it is so crispy and flavorful. They have so many authentic Indonesian and Hawaiian dishes I wish I could have tried more. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, and the portions are great and high value. It is takeout only.

Google
If you know, you know. This little hidden gem serves great Indonesian and Hawaiian comfort food classics. You truly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but if it’s your first time, you must try the crispy fried chicken and the Indonesian fried rice. This place is clearly run by people who care about what they do, and it shows in the quality of the product. There’s not a lot of space inside, so it’s generally a takeout spot, but don’t let that deter you from trying it.

Google
Pre-COVID, there used to be tables and seats to sit down, but now it's takeout only. I haven't had their Fried chicken in a while, so I got some this time. I asked for more of that dipping sauce it comes with, but when I asked for extra sauce, be prepared to pay an extra $1. Still, I'd come back! It's been a couple years, but I still like this place!

Google
Hi , I have been going since about 2012. I love the food and owner Lily and her husband are so nice. I hadn't been in a long time , so went today. But i usually order the Indonesian rice or Loco Moco (comes w lots of gravy , rice and macaroni salad ) , and Thai iced tea but wanted a cheeseburger today :) only thing is i miss the indoor eating. Otherwise i would go , at least every other week. :)

Google

Google
This is a small restaurant located at a strip mall. They serve large portions of Indonesian and Hawaiian fast food at very reasonable prices. The fried fish was fresh and crispy. The spam musubi and chicken curry were delicious. The vermicelli combo and marinated grilled beef were tasty but were too salty for my taste

Google
These are facts from a traveler's opinion. First there is great parking, Second the food is amazing I had the loco moco and Bbq mix combo. Lately it's very close to Huntington Garden if you should check this out(this place is very beautiful) Cons: There was no dining experience as we had to eat our hot food in the car. This is a TAKE OUT ONLY! Great local place prices have changed.

Google
I order 3 items Crispy chicken ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chicken teriyaki ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beef short rib⭐️ The portion is good enough for 3 people. But the taste is like hit and miss. Crispy chicken is good but the chicken is small. Chicken teriyaki is not grilled it deep fried, the taste is ok. Short rib is the worst not eatable for us. Everyone have try a bite and doesn’t like it. The beef is over marinated the texture is weird. Service is good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick, late casual lunch around 3:20 pm and was pleasantly surprised by the Indonesian fried chicken. It's incredibly crispy, with a perfect balance of flavor, and the sauce adds a delectable touch. As an Indonesian, I can say this dish really brings a taste of home--comforting and authentic. Pro tip: They don't take AMEX, so have your Visa or MC ready.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Food is awesome! They are always nice and happy to serve you. We get the oseng oseng and rice noodle combination. So good! Check it out

Yelp
I found this local place on tiktok when I was looking for hawaiian food in pasadena and I was not disappointed at all! I went in without any expectations except my raging hunger and i was greatly satisfied! We went in around 5:00 PM right before the dinner rush, so there was not anyone inside. It seems like a place where people call to pick up their order rather than ordering inside. what we ordered: CHICKEN KATSU CURRY (regular) -the katsu breading was perfect! it wasn't too oily or too crunchy that it would scratch the roof of our mouths. we were able to customize our order and got 3 mac salad scoops instead of two scoops of rice and one mac salad (nice!). The mac salad had perfect seasoning and wasn't too heavy on the mayonaise taste. OSENG OSENG BEEF -this was an indonesian dish the cashier recommended for us to try as it is popular! it was a bit spicy (not debilitating). In our opinion, there wasnt anything too special about this dish to make us want to order it again. The dish was a bit oily. Overall we really enjoyed our meal at this establishment! 2 boxes of food was the perfect portion for 3 people! I would love to try more dishes on the menu! The parking was easy and the food was cooked in an appropriate amount of time. Good service from the cashier! Support local small businesses!

Yelp
I can't tell you how many times my partner and I sought comfort food from this place, as not only is the food comforting, their staff is too!! I do not know her name unfortunately but there is always this one kind lady at the front who is so welcoming both on phone and in person! We usually choose to do phone orders for pickup, and always had speedy pickup times (usually as short as 15-20 mins!) For food, we always love to get the Indonesian fried noodles, combo noodles, fried chicken, loco moco, macaroni salad. The noodles are one of my favorite fried noodles to eat (And that's a lot to say as I am a HUGE noodle lover!) and their chicken is so crispy and delicious!

Yelp
We were craving Hawaiian BBQ and decided to try this place out. The lady who helped us was very pleasant and welcoming. It took about 20 minutes for our food to be ready. There's only take out and several chairs inside for customers to sit and wait. Food ordered: spam musubi, BBQ chicken & short rib combo and Indonesian fried rice Spam musubi was good! I've tried it from other places and the spam sometimes is too dry or thin. This one had the right amount of sauce and spam to rice ratio. BBQ chicke & short ribs combo was a decent portion. I can't put my finger on it, but the sauce is different than what I expected from Hawaiian BBQ. It's different, not bad. Ribs were good, but not as meaty as other places. Indonesian fried rice was also a big portion. It has a fried egg with pieces of noodles and chicken in it.

Yelp
Came here for the fried chicken, of course. I got the six piece ($14.39) and when it was fresh, I can see why so many recommend / return for more. It was crispy and savory, although some bites were a bit too salty for my taste. There weren't a lot of meat on some pieces but it was still enjoyable. I also ordered the Indonesian fried rice and it was a bit reminiscent of nasi goreng of a restaurant I used to frequent in the westside on National. Delicious and very filling. Ordering was simple in person; I tried to call in to order ahead but couldn't get through. There is no dine in area so this is strictly a take out only place. Friendly service and looking forward to returning.

Yelp
Food is so good!! We got the fried chicken and Indonesian fried rice. Chicken was super crispy and moist. The people here are super kind and you can tell they put in a lot of effort in the food at service. We asked about other popular items and the person at the cashier carefully explained each item telling us what was in it. I wasn't expecting that all most of the time people will just say 1-2 item names. I appreciated her thorough explanation and it made me excited about coming back again

Yelp
Stopped by for some fried chicken. Left satisfied! Big parking lot. You can order ahead the default answer is 30 minutes for food to be ready for pickup (unless they finish quicker). You can pay in person. For the fried chicken they only have limited number of orders per day and while I heard they don't take phone orders for fried chicken, we were able to order ahead. Fried chicken was nice and crispy with some savory aftertaste kinda like soy sauce or something like out of a ramen seasoning packet. It comes with a dark sweet sauce as well.

Yelp
Not to be confused with Tops, which is also in Pasadena! This unique Indonesian-Hawaiian restaurant is located in a low key plaza with little traffic and cars during the time that we visited. When we went they were only doing take out orders and unfortunately, they were already sold out of their famous fried chicken. Darn! Next time for sure. We got the: 1) Oseng Spicy Combo Fried Rice: -Pretty large portion of fried rice that came with a generous amount of meat for the toppings (chicken, shrimp, beef), as well as veggies. -Rice was nicely seasoned and moist. Had a nice kick at the start with a subtle heat throughout with the chilis. -Good garlic taste along with the onions and shallots. Nice combo of very slightly sweet with savory. -Delicious. 2) Fish Musubi: -Usually don't see fish musubi being offered and the filet was nice and slightly crispy on the outside and moist and fluffy on the inside. -Pretty good musubi. 3) Kalua Pork with Cabbage: -Staple Hawaiian dish. -The pork was super moist and tender. Nice rich and smoky flavor went great with the cabbage. -Can't go wrong with a classic. Will definitely come back for their fried chicken!

Yelp
Yay!! I was craving katsu chicken for awhile and I came across this when I was looking for food recommendations in Pasadena. It's a small family shop, but luckily we were able to get in without a wait in line. They have a great selection of food options! I ordered the Katsu Chicken plate, while my friend ordered the spicy fried rice. The wait for the food wasn't bad, especially knowing that they make it fresh! Since it's to-go only, we took it to a park 15 minute drive away- and my katsu was still crispy!! I was so happy to eat it :D The chicken was crispy and not dry! I've never really had a lemon with my katsu but it was good still. The katsu sauce is more like bbq sauce though, to note. I enjoyed the mac salad! My friend's spicy fried rice also had really great flavor. Both of our orders had great portioning! Service was lovely, and parking was not an issue since there was a lot for it. Thank you! Will be back again in the future.

Yelp
When your wife tells you "the best crunchy fried chicken to eat is in Pasadena", you should believe her and get in the car. Top Restaurant is a hole-in-the wall Hawaiian bbq joint that happens to also be Indonesian Fusion. They're located inside a strip mall in Pasadena on Colorado/Allen Ave. There's plenty of free parking inside this corner shopping plaza. Top Restaurant opens at 11am and they only do take-out or phone orders. After you place your order, you can grab a chair inside, stand outside, or return in the standard 35-40 minute wait since all food is cooked fresh. The Crispy Fried chicken is sold to 1 customer only at a time and they only make around 45 orders a day. One order contains six pieces and comes with house and spicy sauce. This was a great place to checkout and see how locals in Pasadena dine. I definitely was intrigued by the Indonesian fried rice and it did not disappoint. The rice had noodles too and was the perfect pairing to go with the crispy fried chicken. No one should ever judge a book by its cover because Top Restaurant is living up to its name!

Yelp
Can't believe I didn't try this sooner! I know TikTok is in the middle of potentially getting banned but if not for TikTok, I wouldn't have found Top. Tucked in a small plaza, this takeout-only restaurant had quite a wait at 6pm on a weekday. My bf and I were there to try the popular fried chicken and we came at the perfect time because we were the very last chicken order of the day! We also got the bbq mix plate to share. Fried chicken: 1000000/10 LOVE. I understand the hype now. Bbq mix: Forget ono, come here! It's actually the best I've ever had and I had this in Hawaii. Overall, amazing food and I can see why so many people rave about this place. The auntie that took our order was so sweet. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I finally had a chance to taste Top's fried chicken. I got there at 2:30 Sunday afternoon and ordered their signature fried chicken. The batter they used made their fried chicken very crunchy. It was good. A bit too oily. Most of the pieces of fried chicken were juicy and tender. The piece of thigh was tough on the outer part but juicy and tender on the inner part. Their fried chicken is good, not great. On my pecking order: it would be 4 or 5. DJ's rating: 3.80/5.00 Would I come back? Maybe if I feel like indulging on crunchy oily fried chicken.
google avatar

Meena N.

Yelp
The hype about the fried chicken here is real. We got the whole chicken to go. Note, It's a to go place only. It was ready in about 10 mins. Young lady behind the counter was super friendly. The skin on the chicken is soooo crispy. Maybe just a tad bit salty. But that's me I think because I've been cutting back on my salt intake. But overall very good. Plenty of free parking in the lot.

Yelp
Came here for the fried chicken as it's blowing up in the social media world. They always seem to run out as everyone orders it and the lines are a bit long some times. If you want a shot at the chicken, make sure to go early in the day, like at 11ish when it opens. I did just that and was able to secure my first order of this popular dish. Just FYI, they don't take phone orders for the fried chicken, but you're OK if it's anything else from their large menu. So how was it? Don't always believe the hype, especially if it's on social media. The portions are generous, the price point is good, but the chicken itself is not anything special in my opinion. It's kind of crispy mess and fried a bit unevenly where some pieces are just super hard and inedible. I found myself just picking apart pieces I could eat and tossing the rest. Flavor is ok, kind of like Hawaiian fried chicken, just a tiny bit salty. So yeah, go see what the hype is about. Maybe your experience will be different than mine. Just to note, the menu is large so try out the other items as well.

Yelp
This is a definitely a popular and busy neighborhood restaurant, which is takeout only. So far I have only picked up takeout of their popular fried crispy chicken, which is cooked Indonesian style vs. American style. Instead of being dipped in batter, it contains large, crisps on top of the chicken. It also comes with a sweet soy dipping sauce. I appreciate this mom and pop place. Service was wonderful and extremely quick. Personally the chicken was a bit dry for me - which as I say is my preference. I have traveled to Indonesia and know they cook their proteins well done. Just something to keep in mind. All the crispiness and seasoning you crave is there. I look forward to trying more from there.

Yelp
Every time I go to Hawaii I order my favorite meal the Loco Moco. Anytime I find a restaurant that offers it on the mainland- that's what I end up ordering. This place is literally a hole in the wall and they only offer take out. They could add a few small tables and chairs for indoor dining but that is not offered. After my order was placed I received my meal in less than 15 minutes. My mini Loco Moco order was more than enough food to fill me up and it was sizzling hot when I received it and I had to wait for it to cool down. It was very good but it could have used a bit more flavoring.

Yelp
I love this restaurant & eat here every time I'm in LA! The Indonesian fried rice is my go to bc it's so yummy & full of flavor. The fried chicken is crispy & juicy on the inside. I def recommend eating here. Be careful with the spice levels because they'll creep up on you!

Yelp
Wow the last time I wrote a review here was 5 years ago!? Well 5 years passed and this spot is still AMAZING. The bbq chicken plate is my go-to. The chicken is so juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. I'm convinced their mac salad has crack in it because how is it thattt good omg. Also their spam musubi is delicious. Everything on their menu is a hit.
google avatar

Jenny R.

Yelp
I didn't even have a chance to take a picture of my order because once I took my first bite of their fried chicken, I just wanted to dig into the crispy all so goodness! It was the crunchiest fried chicken I have ever had and the meat was juicy and flavorful. I'm addicted and wanted to go back the next day to get another order but had to control myself. I'll be back for sure this week!
google avatar

Yelp
Small place with no dine in service, everything is to go. The lady that takes your order is very nice and welcoming. Gives you all the details about the food and wait times. They take card. I knew I wanted the fried chicken, but it took me awhile to choose a side. I ended up with the Indonesian noodles, they come with chicken as well. The noodles were ok a big portion but a bit bland. She did offer it spicy to me and I said no. Maybe it would've been better? The chicken is 6pc for a good price it is very crispy and just a bit salty but not where it's a complaint. When they give it to you they leave the lid open so the chicken stays crispy on your way home. It worked. Definitely going again to try more from the menu.
google avatar

Dennielou S.

Yelp
Called to order ahead but no answer. Drove there and lady who took my order was very nice and efficient. no dine in. takes cards. 10-15 min wait time. Spam masubi and bbq mix plate was delicious and more than enough for 2 meals. Great for $26ish

Yelp
Indonesian fried rice. Crispy fried chicken. What can I say? Yes and DAMN YES, cowboy! The fried rice comes in whatever spice level you request. Spice and heat are my life (if you cut me, I bleed Sriracha sauce. No, I do. I can't donate at the Red Cross anymore. They put a little pepper sticker on my plasma bag and nobody wanted it). Ok, that was sorta gross, even to me..... Back to the food. The rice is really tasty, egg on top. We got the medium spice level, honestly I thought it was not very spicy. But have I mentioned the Sriracha blood? But the chicken?? Amazing as almost everyone has said. I do not know how they do it, but I wish they made more of it. Crispy, moist, delish. They limit the orders for some reason. I don't know why...maybe I can offer to get them more chicken storage space? Besides within my belly, of course....so come here and get the crispy fried chicken. But if you snag the last order for the day, and I am standing behind you waiting to order? I will fall to the floor and cry. I will. And won't that embarrass you enough that you'll just give me your order?! Let's hope....

Yelp
One of the best hole in the all places to eat in Pasadena. This place is take out only so plan accordingly - there are lots of cute little parks to eat nearby. The food is made to order so nothing sits under heat lamps. We order a small feast so we can try out different meals. Garlic Noodles with pork - extra flavorful - some of the best I have had in Los Angeles. Kalua Pork - very delicious - excellent texture Chicken- nicely flavored chicken thighs

Yelp
A Indonesian Hawaiian restaurant? I have never heard of this until now and I am very impressed. They are known for their fried chicken. It's definitely a must order. Nice and crispy. Texture and flavors hold well. A no frills fried chicken. Juicy on the inside as well. With the soy glazed goreng dipping sauce. We also tried the Indonesian fried rice. Which was fried rice mixed with chopped noodles. Equally delicious. The short rib here was different. Not like your typical sweetness of a Korean marinated short rib. This one was more savory. Had a nice tug on the bone. Service was friendly. Told us it'll be a 30min wait due to lots of orders being placed. There was no inside seating. So we took the food to a nearby park to eat. I'm glad my buddy took me here cause I have never heard of such a thing. Recommendation: Fried Chicken
google avatar

Yelp
:: Food :: Great Hawaiian food and fried chicken. There's something unique about their style of fried chicken, it's crispy but there's not a whole ton of batter like other fried chicken places and it's not dry. I totally forgot this was the place we ordered chicken from for a party years ago, it felt super nostalgic ordering it again. The mac salad is soo good. :: Service :: There's no longer a dine-in option so they're only open for takeout. The lady at the register is nice. :: Parking :: They share a small lot with a laundromat and liquor store, but it's not packed. :: Restroom :: No restroom.

Yelp
If you're looking for a reliable, go-to spot for a big family meal that won't be $75+ this is it. Their family deal (about $55 w/ tax + tip) can feed 2 people for days, or like 8+ people. What a lifesaver if you're moving, stove broke and can't cook, etc. I love the chicken katsu and teriyaki, and the Mac salad is my favorite. The service is quick - 15 mins after calling order in they have it ready. Delicious food!
google avatar

Valerie N.

Yelp
I really enjoyed eating at Top Restaurant! It's a shame that they only serve to-go and have such a long wait. Even though I was expecting around a 30-45 minute wait, it ended up being an hour or so on a Saturday night. The cashier was really kind, but unfortunately with how many person were on the phone and waiting in line in person, one person isn't enough to man the register and the phone. I would love to come back one day if customers are able to get food faster but for now, it was nice to try while in Pasadena.
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
Interior is small but parking is decent, and I think the food is hit or miss depending on what you order. But for the most part the fried chicken katsu is a good option; the bone in fried chicken that others seem to like was a little dry for me. There is a catering menu and seemingly they are a good option for gatherings. The owners work here and are very sweet Asian couple. They will always smile and engage in conversation with you. Top Restaurant has been in business for a long time so they are doing lots of things right!

Yelp
Love it. Great spot for Hawaiian or Indonesian food. Only takeout right now. No inside seating. The food is bomb though. They have a big menu with your standard Hawaiian favs. Definitely a step up above regular Hawaiian chains. The loco moco is great. I also really like the Indonesian fried rice. Can't pass up the spam musubis either. They also have noodles and soups. So it's definitely worth multiple visits. Portions are pretty good. An entree filled me up. This low-key fatty approves. Service is good. Friendly staff. Easy parking in the shopping center lot.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for comfort food that hits all the right spots, look no further than Best Fried Chicken & Fried Rice. This gem of a restaurant combines the crispy goodness of fried chicken with the savory delight of fried rice, creating a culinary experience that's hard to resist. **Fried Chicken:** The star of the show is undoubtedly the fried chicken. Each piece is perfectly seasoned and fried to golden-brown perfection. The skin is crispy without being overly greasy, and the meat is juicy and tender. Whether you opt for the classic fried chicken or one of their unique flavor options like spicy or garlic herb, you won't be disappointed. The portions are generous, making it a great value for your money. **Fried Rice:** Accompanying the chicken is their fried rice, which is equally impressive. Fluffy and flavorful, the rice is stir-fried with a mix of vegetables, eggs, and your choice of protein. The seasoning is on point, with just the right amount of soy sauce and spices to elevate the dish. It's a fantastic compliment to the fried chicken, and you'll find yourself going back for seconds. **Rating:** (5/5)

Yelp
Must try their friend chicken! I stand by it, this is the best fried chicken I've ever had, juicy chicken with the most crispy skin! In addition, they have fantastic service, they are really working hard with how much business they've had recently!

Yelp
It's to-go only. Located in a strip mall, its a true hole in the wall. The nice lady who took my order was super friendly. There are two menus to choose from an indonesian menu and a hawaiian menu. I went with the indonesian menu and ordered the spicy beef curry stew. It came with three scoops of white rice and was the beef curry was delicious. Excellent portion size and prices are reasonable. Only reason I'm dinging it a star is because I want to be more judicious with doling out 5 stars and while the prices are reasonable, they're not exactly a bargain. I paid $18 for my meal and the price was definitely reasonable, but I would have been happier paying $15 or less.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a pick up only place! Staff is very friendly, and is patient and will answer your questions if it's your first time visiting. We tried both the Hawaiian and Indonesian menu, and have to say that the Indonesian menu is definitely so much better!! The fried noodles have to be some of the best noodle dishes I've ever tasted. I really want to try the fried chicken, but they're always sold out! Another reviewer noted that they only make 40 something orders every day at a limit of 1 order per customer. I will definitely try to arrive early next time to be first in line!

Yelp
A small mom-and-pop shop. It's only take out for now as there are no tables inside. - Crispy Fried Chicken 4.5/5 Chicken is SO crispy. Very very crispy and pretty good. The sauce is unique and changes the taste of the chicken. - Indonesian Fried Rice 3.5/5 VERY carby and heavy. It has rice and noodles so it's very dense. I asked for some hot sauce but they did not have any. (Sad) I thought overall it was pretty good. Parking is free in a lot.

Yelp
This place is a family owned, take out only, no frills kind of place. It's in a strip mall and you wouldn't think much of it driving by but it's a hidden gem. We've had the chance to eat here over the years (even when they had in person dining before Covid). The food is amazing (especially the chicken and beef combo) and the service is fantastic (for in person and take out). The portions are large and filling!
google avatar

Yelp
Unassuming place, to-go only, but exceed my expectations in every way! I got the spam musubi and chicken musubi. This was my first time trying musubi and I didn't think they could be that good since it's just rice, seaweed, and one topping. But wow they were so good !!! I don't know what they put in their sauce but it complemented the spam/chicken/rice combination so well. I was expecting to like the spam more since it's a safer choice, but the chicken was SO GOOD. Perfect seasoning and perfect crisp. I'm definitely coming back next time to get their fried chicken.

Anushka K.

Yelp
The best best food and service, always! The spicy fried rice is to die for. One of our go to places!
google avatar

Yelp
First time here, passing through the strip small and saw this hole-in-wall. Ordered spicy shrimp fried rice and crispy fried chicken (6 pcs) for $30 (Not inexpensive). Chicken was clearly double-fried and very crispy even after 30 minutes of sitting in the car, however it's quite bony and dry and tasted bland. The fried rice was also a disappointment with huge portion of rice and miniscule shrimp and no veggies or egg like most Chinese restaurant fried rice -- could have just microwaved leftover white rice at home.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
The fried chicken here is INSANELY GOOD. The meat is juicy and the chicken is fried perfectly, crispy and well seasoned with each bite! Not a fan of heavily battered chicken. This was reminiscent of Korean fried chicken. Had to pick up some macaroni salad to go with chicken. The leftover chicken was still good after throwing it in the air fryer. Definitely coming back soon.

Yelp
Everyone keeps talking about their crispy fried chicken so I finally went and got their crispy fried chicken and everyone is right. I called ahead and it was ready in 20 minutes. Plenty of parking available in the little strip mall. The woman was so friendly and kind. I'll be back to try the other items soon.

Yelp
What the actual heck is going on with this place lately? Last time I came they messed up my order (new guy behind the counter). The lady that usually works is always amazing but they hired I think a new person or someone I've only seen recently and this guy needs to get it together. I called and ordered chicken katsu with double Mac salad. I was told I couldn't get double cuz they were sold out. I asked if they had Mac salad enough for the plate and he said yes but I can only give you one scoop. Okay you're rationing I get that. Then I ordered noodles and ask if they have a chicken combination with shrimp. He said I don't think so and goes to ask someone. I hear him ask and he forces me to order the combo that has beef. But I don't want beef...so why can't you just do chicken and shrimp and cut the beef which is objectively a better deal for them? Lastly I order a side of gravy. He says we don't have gravy. I say you sell loco moco correct? He says yes. I said can I get a side of that sauce. He says...we don't do that. Like buddy. I'm giving you money. Give me a side of sauce. I'm not asking for it for free. I finally got so frustrated I said "I'm gonna go someplace else thank you" he says thank you and I hang up. THEN HE CALLS ME BACK TO TELL ME MY ORDER IS READY LIKE BRO WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I love this place it's usually great. It has its faults but overall the food is good but I can't even imagine that this is not happening to tons of other customers and it mostly makes me sad for the owner. If he's family I get employing family but get that dude up to speed for the love of god.

Yelp
Holy cow this spot is SO DELICIOUS! Top Restaurant is a hole in the wall located in a small plaza. Looks sketch but those are where the best foods are tbh. Food: great! 10/10 the chicken was tender and moist. They give you a lemon which adds a nice refreshing bite. And the macaroni salad is darn good! The bbq chicken was well cooked and juicy! Service: amazing! She was so nice. There was a small mix up with the order and she had ran out to make sure we had the right food. Talk about customer service!

Yelp
This place really has a fitting name because it has become one of my top spots in Pasadena! It's a local restaurant specializing in Indonesian and Hawaiian food. It's pretty small inside without seating, so everything is takeout. I ordered the Indonesian fried rice, and it was truly one of the best fried rice I've had. I think it was unique because there were bits of noodles inside. The rice itself was super flavorful and wasn't overpowering with any spices. There was a generous amount of chicken and the egg was cooked perfectly. For the price, it was a large potion, so it's definitely worth it. I'm definitely planning on coming back soon to try their other items on the menu. This spot is located in a small plaza, so there was a good amount of parking available. The staff was super sweet and they made our food pretty quickly. Very welcoming and excited to have you come. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Crispy fried chicken is 10/10. It's legit! Chicken isn't too big so it's nicely marinated and fried to perfection. The meat just falls off the bone and the crispy bits is delicious. It's $14 for 8 pieces of chicken - same price as korean fried chicken and just as tasty. Indonesian fried rice is ok. Rice is a little hard and flavor is just sweet, but they give nice amount of chicken. And hey, fried egg on top makes it a luxurious meal. Spam musubi is a nice, cheap snack. Nothing special but it's not bad either.

Yelp
Came here after the feature article in LA Eater. For this visit I only ordered their Indonesian food, will try Hawaiian food next time. They are very generous with their food, and although I didn't call ahead to order, I think it only took 10 minutes to make 4 orders. Their famous fried chicken had a light crispy batter. My Southeast Asian friend mentioned the fried chicken tasted exactly as how they remembered fried chicken tasted like as a child. Chicken was extremely moist and flavorful. They make a limited amount per day so I guess I got lucky when I dropped by around 3:30pm. Indonesian fried rice and rice noodle with shrimp were both really good with the shrimp being fresh and on the larger side. Highly recommend the red curry beef (rendang) with egg. Beef was extremely soft and melts in your mouth. Very addicting with rice. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. They are in a strip mall at the corner of Allen and Colorado with a decent size parking lot. No issues finding space. Definitely looking good forward to trying out their Hawaiian food next time.

Yelp
Came here because I was waiting for my tires and this place has good reviews! The service is kind and fast. I think I just ordered the wrong thing. I tried the bbq chicken and kalua pork combo. The bbq chicken was really good and flavorful and the kalua pork didn't have much flavor.

Yelp
Hiding in a nondescript storefront on Colorado Blvd. under a bright yellow banner emblazoned with "Top Restaurant" in red script resides a true culinary gem. We had heard about the great menu options and that arriving early was a must, so we were there prior to opening with our noses pressed against the glass. "Open pleeeeeeze!" We ended up being the third order of the day when the gates to this little paradise opened. We were tempted by the array of Thai and Indonesian options on the menu. So many of the items sounded very yummy! We had previously heard about the Crispy Honeyed Fried Chicken though and had our focus already narrowed to this particular choice. If this is the object of your quest when visiting Top Restaurant it is important to be aware of the fact that there is a limit on the total number of orders that are available each day for this delectable goodie, hence our early arrival today. We also ordered the Katsu. The chicken was spectacular with a wonderful flaky shell accenting a well spiced, slightly honey sweet, garlicky, and soy sauce combination of tastes. In a restaurant universe where fried chicken is now available everywhere this is among the best out there by far. So good! The katsu was equally well prepared and quite tasty. No doubt that in the future we will need to try some of the other delectable offerings on the Top Restaurant menu. Today, though, was reserved for delicious fried chicken. Yay!

Yelp
Best Hawaiian food in Pasadena, maybe So Cal! As a local boy in the mainland finding the perfect plate lunch spot was tough. Top Restaurant not only has really great local favorites but also some interesting Indonesian stuff as well. The Oseng fried rice is one of the best! If you're looking for really good Hawaiian comfort food with some fun and unique additions look no further! !
