Where to Celebrate Father’s Day 2021 in Portland - Eater Portland

"On Portland’s favorite summertime destination Sauvie Island, Topaz Farm is a you-pick farm with garden spaces, farm animals, and picnic tables. For Father’s Day, Topaz is offering two different picnic lunch options — a meaty one with barbecue pork and a vegetarian one with couscous-stuffed summer squash. Both picnic options also include kale caesar salad, potato salad, escabeche, and a strawberry tres leche cake. The boxes can be enjoyed on the picnic tables and greens or anywhere else on the 130-acre farm; customers should pre-order them online." - Alex Frane

We visited this farm on a Sunday evening. There were hardly any people there so it was as if we had the whole place to ourselves. We had their cheeseburgers and enjoyed dining al fresco under a beautiful tree near the farm animals. Very family friendly place. We walked in the sunflower field and picked a few to take home. We were lucky enough to be able to see Fort Hood in the distance. Really enjoyed visiting. Staff was super friendly.

Topaz Farm is an absolute gem! The owners and staff are super friendly. The food and drinks are outstanding. Their summer dinners are a must, offering delicious seasonal dishes. I also appreciate the no-dog policy, which keeps the space calm and family-friendly. Highly recommend!

Google
Topaz Farm is my happy place. Regenerative farming needs to be supported as do Family Farms and this farm happens to be both. The kind, caring staff are always helpful and make my family feel so welcome. Family friendly, fresh food and activities for all ages. I adore their concerts in the evening light with delicious farm food. I shop their farm store often for seasonal produce, delicious food and treats and Topaz Farm merch. Flower cutting, pick your own berries and sunflower mazes and more!

Google
Topaz Farm is so fun! So much to do and see there. Cow train for kids, animals to see and learn about, great market with tons of fresh local products, and a nice select of hot food and cold drinks. Love the frosee (slushy rose wine yum). Harvest festival music events and farm to table dinners are also an option. Family owned and operated, there is a lot of love at Topaz Farm, you can feel it as soon as you arrive. They do what they love, and love what they do! See you again soon!

Google
Cute farm with a lot of fun activities that are well spread out. There were a lot of people but never felt crowded. We almost missed lunch at the grill since we overlooked those hours (11am-115pm). We got in line around 1250 and the smash burgers were sold out already. Such a great variety for adults and kids. The farm store had a big selection of goodies too! The fresh pumpkin bread was delicious!

Google
Topaz Farm is an awesome farm with awesome owners who know how to create a great experience for families and their kids to visit! We had the opportunity to rent their space after hours for a family session and boy, the sunflower fields and vintage tractor did not disappoint! Definitely will come back to visit with the family!

Yelp
Fantastic U-Pick farm complete with farm-to-plate food, farm animals, and local goodies from Sauvie island. I recommend any of their jams, or their vegan hotdog!

Yelp
I have tried for multiple days to book tickets with a great deal of difficulty. I wanted to go 10/18 - they are open on Fridays (?) - but they have nothing available and no explanation why. If you have questions they do not answer their phone so you send an email. Not a place I want to give my money. Got an email reply to this review. Alena C. said their front page shows they're closed on Fridays. No, it says "Limited Activities", doesn't mean a whole lot to me. But, to translate, in Topaz Farms speak it means CLOSED. Alena C. did not address my problem with finding ticket purchasing or having not phones available for question. I guess they don' t want to admit what failures those two issues are for their website. Went on another farm's website. FIRST thing that drew my eye was link TICKETS, as should be. Within 5 minutes I had looked over the website and purchased tickets for THIS FRIDAY, my first choice. I was so stupid to spend so much time trying to purchase tickets from Topaz Farms website. I grew up on a tobacco/diary farm in Kentucky. Topaz Farms maybe good farmers, but good farmers often, sadly, are not always good organization managers.

Yelp
I'm so torn! This farm is where I got hitched to my spouse when it was Kruger. Topaz has done some really lovely things, they clearly have great ideas. We did have a beautiful fall day out there at the beginning of the month. But...their pumpkin patch this year was super super disappointing, as others have pointed out, and we just picked basically the first pumpkins we saw because they were all basically the same boring thing. I was happy the place wasn't overrun, but also frustrated with paying a cover price that didn't really cover much. The sunflowers were only free to pick because of the storm, so even that wasn't really part of the price. When it was Kruger, you paid for tickets that covered pumpkins, hayride, corn maze, roasted corn, caramel apples...it was a great system. I was also bummed that "our" tree was fenced off and we couldn't go pay homage to where we had our special day 6 years ago.

Yelp
As a disabled person going to topaz farms in October's extremely disappointing, they moved the A. D. A section to be quite a long walk. So if you use a canine or a Walker odds, are, you won't actually be able to safely get to the market areathis is extremely frustrating, as they typically have places that are right up front to be able to park the teenagers working the gate during October are often rude and condescending. There Lee liaison is often rude and condescending. Despite the fact the internet says they're open till 6 PM in October. They don't let you in past 4 PM.I've spent a lot of money here over the years. And if you want to enjoy your time don't go in october

Milan A.

Yelp
Came there to buy some produce and was told it cost $15 to park!!! They will not allow parking to buy produce only, will charge for parking regardless whether you use activities or not! TRASH.

Yelp
If you are looking for a great farm experience I highly recommend Topaz as it has so much to offer. Our preschool class went here recently for a field trip and it was fantastic. I needed to contact the owners a few times to work out the specifics before our trip and I was very impressed with how quickly I got a response. Farmer Kat gave a fabulous animal talk which was fun for children and parents alike. We enjoyed a cow train ride and the children loved playing with the tractors and duck races. Even with the rain falling we could have stayed all day. There is so much space to run around and play and so many animals to visit. The only disappointment really was that the farm shop was closed that morning. Many in our group were looking forward to shopping as Topaz is well known for having a very nicely curated selection of local hand made crafts and food items. Hard to believe this amazing place is only twenty minutes drive from Portland! Can't wait to go back.

Siera K.

Yelp
Called to ask a question, the phone automatically goes to a recording to email or dm them on Instagram for all questions. So, I messaged them on Instagram. They read my message and never responded to me. Very unprofessional.

bob m.

Yelp
Bummed out. Lines are so long and slow during concerts. I love this place but it's not as fun as it used to be. Paid a lot of money to stand in line to order food, waited for food, waited for porta potty. If you know you have 1700 people coming plan accordingly. Show? What show? I was in line.

Yelp
What a cute place! Visited today to pick up our Thanksgiving meal so we could support local for the holidays. While tomorrow will determine how tasty our Thanksgiving kit is, the market itself is cute with tons of local goodies. I was there to pickup my meal kit but immediately grabbed some of the local farm eggs for two dollars a dozen, some grass fed and corn finished ground beef, a few handfuls of hazelnuts, some sparkling wine, rogue cheeses, and a small serving of tasty mint chip ice cream. They even found me a spoon so I could eat my ice cream on the drive back. The staff were all super helpful and friendly. I had questions on the produce and they were all attentive to get my answers instead of just saying they didn't know. I also grabbed some of the drinking vinegars and am excited to come back just for cheese, eggs, beef and ice cream haha. Sidenote: please don't be the person that tries bringing your dog into a business. I read the review about the dog and that is silly to put everyone in a place of business at risk and then act like it's their fault for enforcing their policies. Don't be the reason we can't have nice things.

Yelp
For a trip to Sauvie Island, I think Topaz Farm is a must. While you're there, you can: * Visit the animals - chicken, ducks, goats, pigs, donkeys, and a cow * Go through the corn maze when it's open * Pick your own flowers or fruits, depending on the season * Order food or beer/wine from the cafe * Get produce or goods to-go from the market * Relax on their picnic tables, giant chair, or lawns It's a lovely venue to visit and made for a great stop today with friends. A very family-friendly location for those with kiddos in tow. I understand they also host events - concerts and movie nights - that I'd love to come back for.

Yelp
Layout is nice, farm is nice but this place is wildly expensive. The baskets are almost double the price of what they are down the road at the Pumpkin Patch. They also have garlic braids for sale that are 60$+ dollars that only has about 10 garlic heads on it. They should be 30$ AT MAX, as the garlic itself even if they are organic, local or rare varieties is worth about 15$. It is so easy to grow garlic and braid it yourself. How it is possibly that expensive is almost offensive. They will sell regardless and I think that's why they are up charged so dramatically. Don't fall into the price trap if the price seems unreasonable. I will still go here, but I just couldn't believe some of the prices. Do better, people are financially struggling and 10 heads of garlic is not worth 60$+

Jason B.

Yelp
This years pumpkin patch is a disappointment. Last year, my partner and I couldn't believe how many amazing pumpkins this place had. I think we bought 5 because we couldn't decide which ones we liked best. This year, it looks like they had a bad season because their pumpkin patch is just previously cut pumpkins set In a field, rather than living pumpkins still on the vine. Now if you have some gloves and don't mind small pumpkins, there are some growing next to this fake patch, but it's super thorny to pick them. If you are going with your family for the whole pumpkin patch experience, then you will still have a blast. Especially since it's less crowded than other places. But if you are like us and enjoy the actual pumpkin picking process, skip this year. We will be back next year (maybe on a day where you don't have to pay to get in) because they have had amazing pumpkin patches in the past. But if you are looking for a real pumpkin patch experience, go to The Pumpkin Patch (even though it's soooo crowded) like we did after topaz, cause they have some sexy pumpkins. And for this year, Topaz, maybe don't charge an entrance fee

Amy G.

Yelp
Oct 2023. Be warned it is $15 per PERSON on weekends. Just to get in. And once in there is almost nothing going on. Feels like they strategically placed a pumpkin shipped in from somewhere else every 10 feet or so. We were meeting another family there who already went in or we would have turned around. Now we are in and out $45 bucks - oh, a large pumpkin? That will cost you $15. I assume it's because they gotta carry it from somewhere else. Had to squint to see pumpkins. Then drove down the road to Bella that was 1) free 2) actually had pumpkins. Only people going are first timers that don't know pumpkin patches are generally free to get into. I could almost stomach 15 bucks per CAR but per person is just an icky money grab. We looked at their site before going and did not see the new cover charge, probably by design. They are more profitable as weed farms which I think is what is going on at Topaz, so they should quit with pumpkin patch business as it's a total letdown. Seems like they thought "I'm so tired of doing this, so why don't we jack up the prices to see if suckers will pay it." Don' t be like us. Don't be a sucker.

Yelp
Topaz Farms, previously Krugers" is a lovely farm / market on Sauvignon Island. They have a massive lawn with dozens of tables spaced far apart so you can picnic safely while still enjoying wonderful views. The large market has a large variety of fresh, seasonal produce at very fair prices. Yesterday I purchased some apples, potatoes, sweet onions, fresh corn (delicious!) sweet and peppers. I'll be back for the amazing brussel sprouts. The pantry area is filled with lots of delicious local products: honey, Portland Ketchup, hazelnuts, toffee, McTavish cookies, bBQ sauces, wine and more. And of course they have caramel apples and apple cider doughnuts, a must for any visit in the Fall! The doughnuts were $2 and at first I thought a bit expensive, but they were very dense and flavorful, one definite filling and hit the spot. Coffee, beer, cider and other non alcoholic drinks are available. And for those who love animals, they have a barn with adorable animals you can pet. Great for the little kids and adults, too. Depending on the time of year, you can pick flowers or berries. In the fall, there are hayrides to the pumpkin field. Don't worry about getting your boots muddy, they have a boot washing and pumpkin washing station by the proper bathrooms, yes, proper bathrooms! That alone gets 5 stars from me! If you would rather select pumpkins that have already been picked, in front of the Market are huge bins of gourds and pumpkins in traditional orange, yellow, white, blush and even a light sage blue color. In my days, pumpkins were just orange! Love the variety. If you are seeking a huge pumpkin patch and lots of people, then The Pumpkin Patch just down the road may be more your style. I was specifically seeking something more low key, an opportunity to sit in the field and enjoy a beverage with a friend, and buy fresh produce. Topaz Farms was perfect for me.

Yelp
Pleasant outing for a day on the farm with kids. Indoor farmer's market. During high summer, farm-to-table dinners ($100+) on Friday and Saturday.

Yelp
I was treated terribly here when I tried to come in with my service dog (who was in a sling around my body). My dog was quiet and peaceful, as was I. I have a psychiatric service dog for PTSD, GAD, and MDD. My dog knows when I am having an episode and is able to grab my attention and redirect my mind and body into a more functional, adaptive place. He presses his body against mine and knows how to initiate eye contact and connection in times of need. They kept asking me what service my dog performed which made me freeze up and very frightened. For my case, there is no way to describe the service my dog performs without describing my disability, which I did not feel safe to do here because of the way I was being approached, treated, and judged by the staff. I felt vulnerable, small, misunderstood, and attacked. Many (not all) staff members were rude and in disbelief that my dog was a service dog. I was shaking and really upset and my anxiety went through the roof. I could barely speak and I had a meltdown and my dog was not able to perform their usual psychiatric service because of the aggression we both were sensing from the staff. One staff member, the first who approached me, was so unkind that it felt like she wanted to physically fight me. She threatened me and stormed off to seek the manager. I carry my service dog papers in my wallet but have never had to show them in public. It wasn't until I showed my papers that anyone believed me. I shouldn't have to show them to be believed. The sign at the front says "NO PETS." It says nothing about service dogs. Service dogs are not pets. It is illegal to not allow service dogs. I felt extremely unsafe and violated and I will never return. There was a moment when 4 different employees surrounded me. This was extremely triggering and frightening. This is not a safe place for people with psychiatric service dogs. I felt accosted by at least 4 employees when I just wanted to quickly grab lunch and go. I was literally there for less than 10 minutes and about to leave when they surrounded me. Thank you to the few employees who ignored the fact that I had a dog, and to the one who said my dog was cute. You have no idea how much this means to me. All I want is to feel normal and like I fit in society. Just because I look neuro typical and mentally well it does not mean that I am. One employee said something about dogs being a danger to the farm because of something bacterial or viral related or something like that. I assured them that my dog would not leave the sling so that was not an issue. I would not have him go to the bathroom there and would keep him off the ground. This did not work. Please offer compassionate trauma informed disability training for staff here. Businesses have been sued for a lot of money for happenings like this. At times and with certain cases, psychiatric disabilities can be just as challenging if not more challenging than physical disabilities. I want to point out that I see I am not the only one who has reviewed on this issue. Please do your community a favor and level up to make your place of business a safer place for people with disabilities.

Yelp
A great farm on the sauvie island. It has a big store with plenty of fresh seasonal produce, sweet and savory pies, snacks to munch on and hot and cold drinks. Some weeknights and weekends, they have the grill on and plenty of hot food options too. Really big grounds, with a lot of picnic benches, a bunch of cute animals to pet too. When we were there, they had u-cut flowers event going on. But depending on time of year, you can also pick different type of berries. And an extra perk, especially for sauvie island: proper bathrooms. And ya, they also sell Beach parking passes. Sweet!

Yelp
We went this year for their Mother's Day picnic/brunch Box. The food was pretty good, it was $100 for 2 people. I think that price was a little high but for the event I was happy to pay it. The thing that upset me was the $45 bouquet add on. I of course purchased two of these, one for my wife and one for my MIL. For the price I expected a large beautiful farm fresh bouquet. This bouquet instead was small and below average in quality, limp flowers. The event itself was fun, but skip the price gouging flower bouquet.

Yelp
Fresh veggies, delicious sandwiches, FARMIMOSAS and adorably fluffy free range chickens? What's not to love! I've been to Topaz Farm for their fun Halloween events in years past, but I came out here basically every weekend this last summer and it's brought me the joy and peace I've been needing. Topaz Farm is 10/10 in my book.

Yelp
Yes, Topaz Farm is a lovely Sauvie Island destination for their farmstand, u-pick options and miniature animals, BUT if you have the opportunity, I highly recommend attending one of their summer concerts. What a stunning atmosphere in which to sit out and listen to music!! It's like a natural amphitheater! The stage is set up under their ENORMOUS oak tree, and guests can simply spread out a blanket on the lawn and enjoy. No need to bring anything else. Food and beverage stands provide all the provisions you could need -- beer, wine, cider, water, grilled sausages and boxed meals. All you have to do is relax and enjoy the music. We weren't familiar with the bands that were playing that evening -- Horse Feathers acoustic and The Hackles -- but they were fantastic! Which was a bonus because the setting itself is so lovely that it almost doesn't matter what the music is. During these uncertain times, they are taking every precaution and limiting the number of guests per performance, and as a result, most of the summer shows are already sold out, but make a point to go when you can. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow, wow! Alone I'd come for the sunsets over the vast fields of corn and sunflowers! If that's not enough for you, come for the mazes which are friendly, fun and a great family experience! While walking the property, they have older vehicles set up as photo ops; uh yes please! As if I haven't sold you enough on this farm already, we actually went on a slower day where we actually had the opportunity to sit with the owner and have a great chat about his beautiful property! He was kind, knowledgable and took the time to talk with complete strangers about his journey to owning the property and great things around to check out! We had such a blast and not enough time before they closed! We not only will be back to see the areas of the farm we didn't get to but also to select our pumpkins from them! 16/10 recommend! Don't forget they have BEER on tap and that in itself is AMAZING!

Cathy T.

Yelp
Used to take my kids to this place when it was Kruger farms. Went there to capture more memories but was told they now charge admittance. Forget it!! how sad We ended up going somewhere else. The place wasn't even busy.

Yelp
Last night we attended a farm to plate dinner at Topaz Farm and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my summer! We had the six course vegetarian meal, and it was incredible. Some of the best food I have had in years. Especially the squash blossoms! The ambience was also great; a beautiful sunset under a giant oak tree, and charming tablesettings. The owners and the chef were very friendly and welcoming. Totally worth it, will be going again!

Mary H.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years and always tell people about Topaz but this year.. a disappointment to say the least. They are charging $15.00 PER PERSON just to enter... ouch. :/
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
We got two containers of their ice cream to take home. The marionberry/cheesecake was OK 0-0 had it been just the marionberry I would have said really good. But the mint chocolate chip was intense and wonderful
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Eh. Not enough to do here to make sense of the $20 parking. We paid extra for the cow ride thing. Other than that looked at some chickens, pigs and goats. Other places are better.

Yelp
Every fall I drive around to all the farms on Sauvie for fall activities. This year Topaz decided that parking cost $20. I usually spend all of 10-20 minutes going to the market, buying a few pumpkins and local produce which I informed them that was my only intention but nevertheless that apparently costs $20. I decided to turn around instead. Unfortunately this will no longer be a stop on my list for future years. Sad.

Kylie R.

Yelp
Sorry Topaz, but I have to update my review. To start: I LOVE this farm- for years we have been coming annually for pumpkin patch, berry patch and the produce market- before it was Topaz. And then we've come every year that Topaz has been open and we honestly love what they've done- it's such a cute farm, we love the animals, we come for berry picking, we come for pumpkin patches, we come for the sunflower maze and the market- but this year was kind of a bummer. I don't mind $10/person because it really did seem to make the experience less crazy than other patches, and you can pick sunflowers for free which was nice- BUT the pumpkin patch this year was... terrible. The best part of a pumpkin patch is searching out those unique ones with interesting stems, etc. this year- the pumpkins were pre-cut, uniform shaped store bought style pumpkins set about 10 feet apart in rows in a field- perfect if you're a small child but for anyone else- a big let down. We literally bought the 2 pumpkins we found along the side of the fence still attached to vines so we felt like we were still getting the experience- at the point that we were there, I felt like we had to buy pumpkins there to get our moneys worth. The other patches on Sauvie feel so commercialized to me, and Topaz seemed like they were sticking to the real farm feel and I loved that, but this year really did feel like they are heading more in that money grab direction which makes me really sad. I don't want a pre-cut uniform pumpkin, i could go to Fred Meyer for that. I realize that running a farm is not easy and costs a lot- but if you're charging $10-15/person there is an expectation for certain things. I'll come back again next year on a week day.

Yelp
Spent a lovely day here over the memorial day holiday. They have a great setup with lots of outdoor seating, a food cart, beer/wine/cider, produce, and lots of animals. The kids had a great time and we really enjoyed the food. They also have u pick strawberries, and while they'd already shut their fields down due to demand, we bought a few cartons of hood strawberries that were delicious. We'll be back!

Anna L.

Yelp
This place was such a nice find and not too busy for a weekend! Admission is free, and the corn maze was $10 a person. The maze was very well kept, and huge! It took me and my boyfriend about an hour to find all 7 hidden pieces ( some made the cutest photo opportunities)! The farm is good size, having tons of perfect pumpkins, animals, sunflowers, and food. I highly recommend this patch!

Candice P.

Yelp
Great experience for everyone. Huge outdoor space, tasty food, good beverage selection, happy animals to view (and pet) and an awesome farm stand. Planning on returning for one of their epic looking concerts or fancy farm to table dinners.

Beth S.

Yelp
We had a spectacular time today, and will definitely be back next year. The timed-entry tickets ensure it's not a madhouse once you're there. Pro tip: we purchased the tickets ahead of time online, so saved on the price. My 10-year-old kiddo had A BLAST hopping from activity to activity, including a free maze, hay bale hill, pumpkin bowling and, of course, the hay ride. We arrived around 9:30 a.m. and were hungry for lunch at 11:30, when the line for food was already long but moving fast. There are many great beverage options for the adults, including beer, wine and mimosas, and my kiddo enjoyed peach lemonade and a hot dog. We purchased 11 pumpkins of several varieties, and now our front porch looks adorable. There are tons of cute places around the farm to take family pictures, and the farm store has great snacks (cookies, hand pies, popsicles, ice cream) plus gifts for impossible-to-shop-for relatives (nut butters, sauces, baskets, stylish tea towels, Oregon-made candies). We felt we got a lot of bang for our buck.

Yelp
First Jim,I was far from argumentive or angry. If that were the cause I would not have patronage your establishment at all as I said I purchased food for my family and went to our vehicle while they went to get a pumpkin. I fully expected you to try to make me look as though I was an angry black woman which I've become accustomed to here in Oregon. Secondly, there were numerous people there with animals. Forth more, I have never referred to my support animal as anything other than such. You, kept referring to him as an emotional support animal. Thirdly, as I mentioned we were intending on going elsewhere and came across your establishment. Lastly, as mentioned in my review. I said my support animal. Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person's disability. Via ADA.gov it's not for you to question a person's disability.

V F.

Yelp
This ain't it. Not sure where these people get off charging $20 (more if purchased online), just to go on a hayride/ spend money at their store. There are no other activities for children. You have to pay extra for the crappy cow train. The caramel apples are made with red apples instead of green and the corn maze isn't tall enough to be called that. That pretty much sums it up. Anyone who goes here has no idea what an actual fall festival/pumpkin patch should be like. Much better options off the island.

Yelp
What a beautiful new addition to Sauvie Island! Family owned and operated this farm and market is a great place to stop, get a cup of coffee and delicious pastries. You can pick up a salad or sandwich, local honey or bee pollen and delicious homemade jams. Pet a pig or swoon over bleating baby goats. They offer berry picking in season and events that are family friendly. Recently purchased and thoughtfully renovated. As a resident of the island, I am so very thrilled to have this amazing market so close to me. Looking forward to wine, beer and sunsets. Stop in and support your local farmer!

Yelp
Beautiful farm with nice selection of higher end produce and more with several cute animals to see. Skip the food offerings though, not good. The kielbasas and sauerkraut was all missing the sauerkraut, kielbasa was cold and uncooked, and the bun was also cold and crumbly. Lots of potential here to make this a wonderful picnic eatery.

Yelp
Talk about gorgeous and everything I want from a farm on Sauvie Island! They have lots of space, so no worries about social distancing. The animals are super cute and friendly and they have TRACTORS! Lots of tractors, just what my 2 year old NEEDS in a farm. The fruit in the store is really good and we also enjoyed a berry hand pie which was a tasty sweet treat. Looking forward to our next trip!

Yelp
So many animals here! Bunnies, kittens, toy pigs, a pony, peacocks, and more! Such an awesome flow to walking through the farm and maintaining distance between customers--it was a really cool and safe experience if you're looking for a legit "pumpkin patch," you might want to try somewhere else, but this place had such an awesome fall/October vibe and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Topaz pumpkin patch is newly organic since it changed ownership (previously Kruger's). Sounds great, right? Maybe for produce I plan to consume! "Organic" here means a pumpkin patch covered in weeds that is very hard to enter or navigate (and, unfortunately, impossible for my 17-month-old daughter). I'd prefer if they did something about the weeds, personally. Since we couldn't let my daughter enter the weed-filled patch, we went to check out the corn maze--which is now $8 per adult. I thought it was expensive at $5. $8 is outrageous! Speaking of high prices, I was disappointed when my $9.50 baked potato ($4 with sour cream and chives + $3 for chili + $2 for cheese + $0.50 for jalapeños) was served with very little sour cream. I was the last person to get any, a few minutes after noon, and got the last little bit. It did taste pretty good, and I happily ate the whole thing, which was a little smaller than my fist. They're also no longer weighing pumpkins--they say due to COVID--and charge an $8 flat rate. It's not clear why they can't have purchasers place their own pumpkin on the scale. I suspect this is a tactic to justify the flat rate. I don't know what the economics of a pumpkin patch are. Maybe all these changes are required to reduce operational overhead and increase revenue, in the service of keeping the business going. I might even try again next year, in the hope that the new owners will hit their stride as they gain experience from this season. It just didn't feel the same as it has in the past--and recapturing the past, frankly, is one of the biggest reasons to carry on the tradition.

Yelp
We enjoyed a fantastic day at the Pumpkin Patch on Sunday! I loved that Topaz took into account the customer experience and had slotted times you could purchase in advance to visit! We arrived and although the lot was almost full the farm felt perfectly busy! We got awesome snacks from the store, I am obsessed with the frozen herb pops and they have little jarred pumpkin cheesecakes and chocolate pots de crème that made my GF heart sing! My family enjoyed the hand pies and apple cider donuts. The Sunflower Maze and Corn Mazes were super fun and you almost felt like you had the place to yourself! We have been coming to Sauvie Island for the last decade and this was by far my favorite year! The other thing I love about the Farm, the owners can be seen all around the place and they make sure to thank you for coming and to educate patrons on why they manage the farm how they do! Jim spoke to our group heading out on a hay ride and explained the reason for the cost of the car entrance fee, it helps provide a raise for their staff and to keep the experience fantastic for the guests, staff, land, and animals! Love how they care for this super special place!

Yelp
We got shut out of the hayride twice by bigger parties. The driver decides, not where you are in line. Cute farm but $20 a car isn't going to make me return.

Yelp
We've been coming to Kruger Farm every summer for produce and yummy roasted corn on the cob. Now it is Topaz Farm. I'm very impressed with what they did with it.

Yelp
I stopped in for delicata squash, which I did get, but I also left with a bunch of other locally made products. I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews, but I also didn't frequent the farm previously when it was Krugers or visit the pumpkin patch and corn maze. In general, there will be changes with new ownership and change is scary, I get it, but give them a chance. This review is strictly for the store. They had all the staple produce I would have wanted to purchase if I was grocery shopping. The produce appeared fresh and beautiful. I'm pretty picky about my produce and I thought the produce they offered looked great. The market is very spacious and clean. There is a small coffee stand offering hot/cold coffee and some baked goods. I did think the cookie and apple cider donut prices ($2.50 and $2.00) were a bit steep for just okay tasting baked goods. I would be content with that price point if they were delicious. They have so many locally made products such as McTavish shortbread cookies, multiple hot sauce and salsa, honey and more. There is also beer on tap to enjoy on site or ice cold beers in cans to take home. Also, why are people so upset they can't bring their dogs with them during all this COVID madness. I don't understand why can't we all be a little more understanding during rough times, be compassionate and caring. Life sucks for everyone. It won't kill you. Your dog will be fine. Eventually, Fido can come with you again.

Yelp
Great looking produce (more expensive), but something is missing... character? Vibe? Kruger farms felt more like a farm with the farmers operating the business. Topaz farm feels more like a Starbucks being run by very young adults who don't seem informed about the stores products. Sad to see Kruger's move on, but understand they need to retire. Wishing Topaz the best and hopefully after the pandemic they can grow into their new home.

Yelp
Beautiful farm, friendly staff, and a gorgeous place to sit outside and have a beer on a sunny day.

Yelp
Kruger farm was always our stop for food after The Maze on Sauvies Island. Everything in the store looked very stylized and made to look like a store instead of a farm stand, so those updates were nice. The multiple picnic benches in the yard were great and the expanded u-cut flower garden. The new petting zoo was cute. The negatives, there are no longer the market baskets for sale (my go-to for the past 12 years), I wish I would have known to stock up before the change. Also the limited food offerings (maybe due to Covid). The pizza, street corn and sausage vendors were always the highlight of our pumpkin patch day, we really hope you bring back these wood fired artisans. We had the corn and the hotdog and they were lackluster. We will stop by again next year, however if it is more or less the same, we will be removing this iconic stop from our yearly routine.

Yelp
We love Topaz Farm! Tons of beautiful pumpkins, huge corn maze, delicious food, and friendly staff. We will be making this place our yearly family tradition.

Yelp
So happy to see this Sauvie Island community gem starting back up for the season. The farm looks better than ever and the market has fresh items straight from the local fields. If health is not your thing, than the beer and hot food will do the trick. And your kids can say hi to the farm animals too.
