What Mayor Pete Buttigieg Eats on the Campaign Trail | Eater

"A local Decorah brewery known for its IPAs and barrel-aged stouts; volunteers praised it as offering the best food in town, prompting the advance team to order trays of tacos, chips, fries, and pizza for the hotel, and the candidate later enjoyed one of the brewery’s IPAs with his chicken tacos." - Gary He

What a great place in a very unexpected area!! Beautiful, very large building with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy your time there without feeling crowded. You can view the brewery through several different windows which is a nice touch if you can't be there on Saturday for a tour. We hadn't eaten all day and it was 4:00 so we were super hungry and food service was quick! Lani was our super friendly and attentive server that knew the beers very well and picked the perfect ones for us! Great food, nice selection of taps, cocktails and fabulous service, definitely 5+ stars!

This place is huge, great atmosphere. Was a little disappointed they didn’t have a regular Porter or so, they had three or four, but they were all imperials or barrel aged. Merchandise? They had a whole store over on the side. Typical breweries don’t have full restaurants but, this place did food was fantastic.

Nice out of the way place to visit for some Great Food, Tasty Taps & Tons of Merch 🥸 I mean, where else can you get a Full Flight of Unique IPAs? Tuna Tacos 👍 Agree with others: Place is HUGE! Glad we went when it wasn't busy. Dishwasher oddly dominates the Bar 🤣 Great service, Glad it wasn't Packed!! Maybe Next Time a Tour 🤞

What a great place in Decorah! The food is excellent and the drinks are too. Service…. Well I always hate to crash on the service but this time I have to because it wasn’t real good. The place offers tours on Saturday and they have fun events on the their schedule. It’s HUGE inside and they have a beautiful outside area as well. Definitely a must stop place……. And guys just wait till you need to use the restroom—— you won’t believe it

Toppling Goliath Brewing is a well known brewey in Decorah IA. They have a large taproom with plenty of seating, large fireplace, store front, and bar. They have a full bar menu and friendly service. They are known for their IPAs (11 IPAs on my stop) and had 22 total beers on tap. Beers included a barrel aged strong ale, 2 imperial stouts, 3 blondes, shandy, lager, American lager, fruit beer, hefe, oktoberfest, pilsner, American IPA, Double dry imperial IPA, Double dry NEIPA, 3 Imperial IPAs, pale ale NEIPA, 2 pale ales, triple NEIPA. Everything I tried was really good and they have several big beers to get your day started. They also have seltzers and sparkling waters for your non beer friends. This is a noteworthy brewery and definitely worth a stop.

Great brewery!! Fun and friendly service and patrons make it easy to sit and enjoy your beers while enjoying the huge, modern, and entertaining space. Didn’t try any grub but it all looked tasty. Beers are flavorful and it’s nice they serve 10 oz options so you can try a variety. Only regret was we were having so much fun we forgot to get some cans to go🤨

During a recent camping trip in Decorah my camping crew (3 families with a total of 8 kids under 12) stopping in at Toppling Goliath to avoid bad weather, get some drinks and some food as a group. Was a great experience. They found us a large table immediately and the servers were on the ball getting kids waters in kid friendly cups. Beer was great, particularly the pseudo sue right on tap. Food was also pretty good, pizza was great, kids meals seemed good. I was very impressed by the service, including people bringing out drinks as the waitress put in orders, before we even paid. Had a great time and I was somebody who stopped in the old location about a decade ago. Cool to see it evolve. Fun place.

We stopped in on a Saturday at lunchtime. The place was busy but not crowded, so we had no wait. Service was great throughout our visit. The interior dining room is a large open space, very industrial, with the brewery visible through windows in the wall; the factory wasn't in operation during our visit. A gift shop fills one end of the dining room. We started off with the local cheese curds. To be pedantic, these are not curds but large cubes of cheese. That said, they are absolutely delicious, the breading crisp and wonderful, the cheese lusciously molten. I asked our server for a recommendation on the dip, and he said he liked the pizza sauce best. We went for that, and loved the combo. I was happy that they had one cider offering, a can from the local maker, Convergence. My husband got a beer flight. I liked how the flight was set up with cards that identified the content of each glass. I ordered the salmon salad. It was delicious. My husband ordered the French dip sandwich. He thought it was tasty, but strangely small, especially considering the $19 price. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Toppling Goliath.

Yelp
This was my first time at Toppling Goliath and I had a great experience! Large brewery with plenty of indoor seating, plus an outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. I appreciate the variety and selection of beers - there's truly something for everyone! And they have a great selection of merch, I particularly liked their hats. I'm excited to come back when it's a little warmer outside :)

Yelp
We were excited to finally make it out to Decorah, IA and visit the brewery. We have been drinking there beer for some time now so it was nice getting to see where it comes from. We visited on a Friday evening and the place was pretty busy but we were greeted and seated at a table quickly. We chose to sit inside while we were there because the sun was shining and the patio doesn't have much in the way of shade. We noticed quite a few people sitting outside come inside to find tables. The seating area in side is quite large and I can see it getting pretty loud if it's crowded. We ordered the cheese curds for an appetizer and the TG Supreme pizza for dinner. Both were fantastic. The cheese curds were fried up well and came with a really great ranch sauce. Not sure if they make their own or not but it was really good. The TG Supreme was a nice combination of meats and veggies and tasted great. We both ordered an IPA and neither disappointed!

Yelp
Toppling Goliath has been on my radar for several years after seeing them take some international awards in the past decade. I sampled their beers with enthusiasm when I came across them on vacations to other states before they finally started distributing in Missouri. Driving from the Twin Cities to the Quad Cities on a little midwestern road trip, I knew that I had to take the route through Decorah to stop at the brewery. We arrived on a weekday mid-afternoon and there were about 20 other people in the gigantic taproom. This place is huge with dozens of tables across the large space plus a second floor balcony, patio and bar. They also have a large overpriced gift shop and a seperate area for beer to go. Since I was driving, I did a 3 beer flight and shared a pretzel with my wife. I sampled the Blueberry Lager, Lemon Camp Shandy and a Munich Weiss. All were excellent and listed in order of my preference. Pretzel was good but our server was less than stellar. Although I'm glad that I stopped, the experience was less than I had expected. I was hoping for a brewery that was actually part of downtown Decorah, not several miles outside of it, in a giant warehouse style building. I'm not sure if they achieved their goal of toppling the giants of the beer industry, but they have certainly become one of the goliaths in the craft beer industry. Good for them and I'll still support them when i can, but the allure has faded a bit after seeing the operation.

Yelp
We were very excited to come here. It was a beautiful day, clear blue skies, lovely ride out here... Got there right when they opened, got a prime parking spot, everything was going as planned... (as a disclaimer, I am a pro brewery attendee & researcher. I have been to the best, and know how to do it, and also what to look for) The facility is really nice, really slick, though had a very empty and cavernous feel once you were inside. A couple dings. *The sound system was lousy. For the size of the space inside (3000+ square feet with a concrete floor) they had what sounded like one JBL clip 4 speakers playing. You could barely hear it, and it was not balanced quality sound. *No caps for growlers. I brought some empty growlers (from other top end breweries) (colored brown of course to prohibit lighting in to beer). These were industry standard growlers, empty and clean. And the did not have caps at this place. Also a disappointment, other breweries that I go to (Allagash, Fiddlehead, Black Horizon, etc... they have the caps. I think its a universally accepted rule and also a sanitation piece for the brewery to provide the cap. So I ended up not getting those taken care of - probably for the better. And finally the important piece, the beers. They were okay. Many of the beers tasted the same. Drinkable, but not out of this world. So, will not be making the effort again.

Yelp
So - definitely a clean and nice establishment with employees that enjoy their jobs and are helpful, but.....descriptions would be nice for the menus since we ordered three stout tastings for $10 each that we hated. Loved the blonde, the IPA, the Hefeweizen, and the lagers. I will say the waiter gave us two free tastings of other beers since we told him we took one sip of the stouts and weren't impressed so that was nice.

Yelp
Wow! We loved it here! Amazing hospitality! We walked in and bellied up to the bar for some beers. We ordered a variety of 4 ounce pours, some IPAs, a few sours and some of the fantastic stouts. We also noticed that they were doing bingo later that night so we asked the bartender about it and then we asked if it was ok to stay the night in the parking lot in our van. She asked the manager and we were good to go. We returned for bingo and had 5 more beers and a steak sandwich. Once again the beers were great! The steak was over seasoned on the sandwich and the French fries were cold. Our server was great and bingo was a lot of fun. Service 5++ stars! Beer 5++ stars! Food 3 stars We would definitely return, they treat ya like family.

Yelp
Service was great, prices are about on par for a brewery. The menu has a few unique items that I liked. I had the Salmon BLT. I liked it a lot. My issue and why it does not get a 5th star is the same issue most establishments do, they seat everyone in clusters outside. In theory it is less travel for the staff. However, is it what the customer wants to experience while sitting in an open place?

Yelp
Sat out side, interior excellent but enjoyed the outdoors. Beers are interesting. Nothing bad. Be brave and get lots of samples. We did 10z samples. Nice menu, great food. Wait help top notch.

Yelp
My second trip down and I failed to take adequate pictures , regardless, love visiting TG for their food, brews, service, and atmosphere! Parking on site both times I've been have been fine although I could see when this place is bumping, it might get tight. The brewery is massive and so well kept. Really impressive from a look and feel standpoint. On this particular trip I came down with friends for a bottle release and got in early to try all the goods on tap as well as indulge on some pizza. I had no clue they did brunch so that'll have to be the next trip with a review . We split the Taco And Sweet & Spicy Pizzas which were equally killer. So full of flavor, spot on with their descriptions, and a great crisp to the crusts. The taco pizza is even served with a tray of hot sauce like you'd get at Taco Bell. Love it. I shared a flight of stouts which were all fantastic. We did the Meteora Barleywine, Term Oil S'mores, Assassin Banana, and also the Term Oil Pistachio, Vanilla, Granola stout. Damn fine selection that never disappoints. Also checked out the Luther Lager Blueberry Lager that was a bit more fruited than I would have expected but still tasty, and lastly Fire, Skulls, and Money hazy that I now need at home. Always a great trip down from the cities and the staff is always the best. Quick, attentive, polite. TG for those that don't know, is a gem on all fronts.

Yelp
Beer was amazing. Service great and food was good. Good experience overall! Clean and inviting atmosphere!

Yelp
Ambiance, service, food and especially drinks were incredible. Our waitress, Victoria, was especially nice and sweet recommending both the slushie and our wraps which were both delish. Dog was welcome in the outdoor area with a water station.

Yelp
Had southwest chicken wrap. Food was really tasty, hit the spot on a warm day, great fries. It was busy but not slammed, service was quite poor. They seem really bad at turning tables, took forever to bus anything. Food took about 40mins to get and then another 15 to get the check. Never checked in on until after finished eating, had to yoink condiments from other tables. Honestly I think a take a number or buzzer system would work a lot better than what they're doing. But, food's solid, and beer.

Yelp
Olivia was the reason for 5 stars, as well as good food and drinks. As the Manager today, she personally took care of us and our pups. pups. We will be back!

Yelp
Toppling Goliath was one of the reasons we booked a trip to Decorah, so when we got into town on a Thursday night and were told that they had a limited menu due to a 'special event' happening, we were pretty bummed. The menu only included pizza and a pretzel. The pizza was tasty, with a zesty red sauce and a crispy crust. We didn't try the pretzel. The service was okay. There were many staff working, even though it wasn't very crowded. The person who delivered our beers got them mixed up. My mom was given a hazy looking IPA which was clearly not the blonde that she ordered, and my father was given a beer that we could only assume was the blonde. The 4 of us at the table all tasted each others' beers to figure out who had been given whose beer, which was funny but also made us realize that most of the IPAs on the menu taste the same. We had ordered 3 different IPAs but didn't know which was which. The tap list left something to be desired. A description of each beer would have been helpful. There were many IPAs on the list, but the only distinguishing information about them was their ABV. Aside from the blonde and a couple of specialty beers, the selection of beer really revolved around IPAs. Side note: Pulpit Rock (just a few miles away) had a much more diverse selection of beer styles. The staff was warmer and more engaging, too. We would have returned to this taproom for our second night in Decorah, but the first visit was a bit lackluster.

Yelp
If you know, then you know: this place is a bucket list destination for craft beer enthusiasts. If you can find your way to the nooks and crannies of northeast Iowa, the you must make the stop to Toppling Goliath's brewery and Food Hall. Whether you enjoy ales or lagers, IPAs or stouts, sour or malt, Toppling Goliath has just the right choice for you. After talking about a road trip for a couple of years, some college friends & I made a pilgrimage for the tour and to be able to sample allll the beer. Toppling Goliath made that an easy visit, with the walking tour of their brewing facility coupled with the brief but rich history of this craft brewery. You even get to take the beer of your choice along with you on the walking tour! Pro tip: if in season, try the Oktoberfest. Malty goodness! The bier hall is expansive and there is ample seating. If and when you order, and you will, expect a nonstop army of table service personnel to bring your samples or food to the table. Outstanding service, and many of the servers are very in tune with their different brews. Can't make up your mind? Ask a server, or better yet try a flight of five small pours. You are *guaranteed* to find some thing that you would like, I mean, love. The soft pretzel with your choice of housemade beer cheese or house honey mustard (with a horseradish kick) is an outstanding leadoff hitter. Mingle that with a glass of beer and you are right where you belong, in Flavortown. TG distributes in 32 states (!), so you can likely get a 4-pack of flagship Pseudo Sue or King Sue near you. But if you are in a state where you cannot find their beer, or you want to save a trip, then you can get almost any of their brew to go. How convenient! For us, this was a destination, but for many fortunate people in the area, this is a treasure. Toppling Goliath just keeps turning out better and better beer, and given the popularity of their facility and food hall, it looks like the sky is the limit for everything.

Yelp
Located in the fun, far away DSM suburb called Decorah, IA is a great brewery called Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. with awesome food. Taco Pizza: was great, only recommendation would be to serve salsa with the pizza. We had to ask for some salsa or taco sauce, and got taco sauce packets. Ribeye Lettuce Wraps: were ok, not great. Menu said "Iowa kimchi" which was really just sauerkraut. As a kimchi lover, I was a little sad it wasn't kimchi Not pictured were caprese pizza and chicken pesto pizza, both very good. Space was large and welcoming, service friendly. I tried the Dorothy brew, their lightest one. Friends got caramel apple sour, milk stout and the Oktoberfest and loved them all.

Diane S.

Yelp
We were there on a Friday evening and even though they were very busy the wait staff were very attentive and friendly. They were knowledgeable about the tastes of their beer and that meant we both enjoyed ours. We were pleased with the pizza also. Very comfortable, welcoming place. Plan on returning soon.

Mary C.

Yelp
Our bartender was our server - Holly was awesome. Had a couple of beers, Playa and intergalactic. Both were great. I am only giving 3 stars simply because I thought our meal was just ok. Chicken fingers were maybe the kind you get from Costco. Wings were good. Holly was truly a great bartender.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Pro: beer was pretty good and loved the outdoors! But it didn't justify the 90 min drive. Con: we were a party of two and waited 75 min before giving up on the waiting list (along with two other parties we were commiserating with). Then we noticed new parties coming up to the host stand and were immediately seated. I'm not sure what the deal is, but this place needs to improve their communication and system! The brewery seems like it's too big for its own good unfortunately.

Yelp
Compared to their old location this place is amazing. Its huge and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We just wanted to hang out all day and play cards with of course the occasional beer and then our dinner. There were a LOT of families with kids there and I felt really bad for the waitstaff because a few of the families with little kids just left a complete mess to clean up. We watched one baby drop fork after fork, food, and crayons and the mother saw it but didn't bother to pick it up. In fact she stepped on it all and mashed it in to the floor before they left "oblivious" to what she was doing. We were impressed at how professionally the employees took care of the mess without any complaints and smiles on their faces. I will definitely come back. Hopefully when its not cold and rainy out like this time.

Yelp
Toppling Goliath knows they're a tourist destination, and they behave like it. With an extremely efficient staff plan, vibrant and colorful beer flights, and multiple shops to visit, Toppling Goliath was a treat. I genuinely am excited to come back sometime. PROS: -Gigantic parking lot. Even with such a gigantic mecca of a building, you're less than half a block's walk to the front door no matter where you park. They're clearly designed for the traffic they get. -Super large building. Being ready for all of those customers also included a gigantic, two-floor brewery built into a warehouse. The tall ceilings and spread out tables really help make this place feel less overwhelming - even as every table in the place was full of customers. We never felt crowded or uncomfortable. -Same for the bathrooms. The women's had 4 separate "rooms" as stalls, and I never saw more than one or two of them full. I imagine they'll get a bit of line during events, but on a holiday weekend, it was smooth sailing. -Staff is on the same level. You have a single server you'll interact with who keeps all of the orders coming in, but your drinks will come out from a different person, and runners from the kitchen deliver all of the food. Everyone clearly had their own job that kept the beer coming out fast and the food delivered piping hot; it's clear they're used to running at capacity. -Large list of beer options - all with their own personality. Toppling Goliath is known for their IPA experimentations, but they had a large selection of beer to choose from. We were even able to introduce a non-beer drinker to a few options they'd like here. -They know experimentation is the name of the game here, and their flights are reasonably priced and very colorful. I think this is the first brewery I've seen where each beer comes out with a colored placard. It's a beautiful visual. -The pretzels and beer cheese are frickin' fantastic. They're a bit small for a meal, but at half the price of the entrees, picking up two of them is pretty filling as your meal. -Toppling Goliath is a bit pricier than most Iowa breweries and restaurants, but it's much cheaper than trying to buy their beer virtually anywhere else - including a grocery store. Their won awards have really driven up the price, and while you can easily buy it almost anywhere in Ohio, it'll cost you over $20 for four cans - versus the $12-$14 here. -Almost all of their beers can be taken to-go in a crowler or growler or 32oz sealed can. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off, but it was odd to see only one person working the To-Go Beer counter on the 4th of July weekend. We ended up waiting over 20 minutes to pick up "to go" beer, but the staff member was extremely friendly and apologetic about it. -We weren't super fond of the fried pickles. I've never had a place fry a full-length pickle; I'm used to the pickle chips. It meant the breading and the pickle itself never really came off in the right ratio in a single "bite"; it was always mostly pickle or mostly breading. Breading was really delicious though (so was the ranch!)

Yelp
I came here two days in a row while in town for a wedding and I think that says a lot considering we were there for such a short period of time! We passed Toppling Goliath on the way into town and I immediately wanted to go there for lunch. We came in around 3 pm on a Thursday so it was pretty slow, but we had great prompt service! It was a drizzly day so we sat inside but saw they had a great patio and opted for that when we came back the next day! The service both times was excellent and despite the second day being SUPER busy, we were sat quickly, the host and servers were so friendly and prompt. My bf got flights both days and LOVED their sour beers. They seem to specialize in IPAs, seltzers, and sours. They have great presentation for the flights- I love the little cards that they use to differentiate the beers. For food, we had the cheese curds both times- these are fantastic! I am something of a cheese curd connoisseur and I rate these very highly. They are complemented nicely by an incredible buttermilk ranch dressing- it is AMAZING. I also had a chicken salad sandwich which I really enjoyed and then a burger which was perfectly cooked and really hit the spot. The only thing that missed the mark was my boyfriends sandwich- it was pulled pork, ham, and bacon but it was all mushed up until it looked like a sloppy joe and while it was flavorful, it lacked texture so it was just kinda meh. But the fries make up for it! They are so crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. YUM! Save some of that ranch for these! I really enjoyed this spot BOTH times and will definitely stop here again when we're in town! Oh PS, according to my bf's brother in law, there is a noticeable and "disappointing" lack of TVs but that did not bother me. If you want to watch a game though you might be out of luck.

Yelp
I have tried the beer from here but have not visited this place since they moved from their old location in the city. After visiting I kind of wish I hadn't. I had an over priced mushroom and swiss burger and a few overpriced beers. The burger was just ok nothing worth the $14 they charged and the beer was good but not worth the extra $ they charged. The building was beautiful, and the service was good, the only reason it received as many stars as I provided. Oh and the fried cheese curds were good, not too greasy. Will I come back, doubtful.

Yelp
Real quality food for a reasonable price. Victoria was a very helpful, super nice pirate(waitress)! The ribeye sandwich and roast beef panini were super tasty. The beers are phenomenal. Neither of us have had so many beers that we enjoyed. The holidotz was festive by the first smell. It is clean, complex, and totally drinkable. The caramel apple fandango is just darn tasty. The peach brandy naughty temple reminds me of a tawny port. Developed and lushish. It is also quite filling. Great time. Worth the trip!

Yelp
We've been to TG twice now, and have had great experiences both times. The staff is great and the food is consistently tasty. The beer selection is also great, and I love that there are cocktail options too!

Yelp
Toppling Goliath is to your average brewery as a Cadillac is to a Kia. That is to say, everything is bigger, better, nicer, and obeys the law of "you get what you pay for". There's a ton of indoor seating and plenty outdoors too. They have a great selection of beers (as you would expect), including some really premium, high end stuff, like Assassin. They know how to cook, too; I had a Meat Lover's Pizza that would compete with anything a pizza chain could put together. All things considered, I expected to find "that beer", the one that I just can't live without, but that didn't happen. Taste is a very individual thing.

Yelp
I'll start with the fact that Pompeii is my absolute favorite beer. We took the journey down to check out the brewery & was less than thrilled with our experience. As I'm typing it seems petty, but.... When we all ordered our 16oz beers they arrived at different times in different glasses. Mine was the last to arrive & the glass was clearly smaller than the other 2 beers at our table. The server assured me they were all 16 oz. When we finished the beers I filled my glass with water & poured it into the taller glass there was room for probably 3 or 4 more oz. Again, my beer glass was clearly smaller. I asked that my 2nd Pompeii be served in one of the other glasses & was denied. We were laughing about the situation, not upset, mean or disrespectful. Certainly felt discounted however by the staff. On a second note, the loaded hamburger we ordered came out of the kitchen without any toppings. They were quick to correct the situation & bring out the toppings, but the hamburger looked a bit gray.

Yelp
We knew we liked Toping Goliath beer before going here, but the pizza is just as good! And the beer choices!! Types you can't buy at the local liquor store. The place is huge, but if you have to wait there is plenty of space and a gift shop area. Outdoor space when the weather is suitable. Plenty of parking and great for large groups!

Yelp
Way bigger then your normal brewery. Sorry for the red pictures but we were seating under a red tent because we had dogs with us. I love that they were very friendly with the dogs. Plenty of seating outside. The food was great and so was the beer. The only thing I disliked was the so called pickles on the side. They were like a mix of pickle and cucumbers it didn't taste good. They also had plenty of outdoor games to play. I would recommend going if your in the area.

Yelp
Recently picked up the Seismic Sue, the triple IPA rendition of Pseudo Sue. This not so pre-historic beer was juicy, full bodied, mango-y, pineapple-y goodness. Drank incredibly smooth and was gentle on the nose with a nice balance of the juiciness and the hops. Seriously was an outstanding TIPA from Toppling Goliath!

Yelp
One case where there is such a things as "too big." In this case the beer stays the same- and it's good beer, but the brewery experience is no longer about the little guy. Service suffers- it was not personable- too many staff running around each other- multiple staff checking in on us at the bar- it was too much. No stand outs on the food menu- typical appetizers- standard wings- ONE pretzel that tastes frozen and the cheese sauce was clumpy. Prepare for sticker shock in the gift shop- growth does come at a price. The glassware was plain and without a logo- because they want you to buy that one. No frills when it came to dining. This was a one stop brewery for me- checked it off my list.

Yelp
This is a rating on their food and only trying it once. I recommend (without trying them) sticking to burgers and pizza. We tried the banh mi and chicken tacos. They both did not have much flavor or spice. The banh mi didn't even have cilantro or jalapeños- my husband called it a "slick meat sandwich". The chicken was cold on the tacos and the salsa didn't have much spice. The side of coleslaw was bland. Great hip atmosphere and lots of room for large groups in the new spot. The service was good. The brewery gets rave beer reviews but I'm not a huge fan of IPA's so nothing special here. However, if you are a sour beer fan, the dragon fandango is excellent! We bought a growler to take home since they aren't canning/bottling it yet.

Yelp
Went on a road trip last week, and a friend suggested I extend my trip to Decorah, IA to visit Toppling Goliath. I've had their beers before at brew fests, so it was an easy sell. The tasting room is massive and well-kept, and the staff is friendly and very helpful. I already knew what beers I wanted to try so I ordered my flight and a burger to balance out the high ABV beers I ordered, Mornin' Delight, two variants of Term Oil, plus Dragon Fandango and Cherry Dragon Fandango. Every beer was perfect, and the House Burger I ordered was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The house made chips were cold and some were stale. They should fry them to order and add a nice seasoning blend to them. Overall, it was a great visit, and I would go back in a heartbeat!

Yelp
Sat outside. Perfect weather. Flight was super fun. Pizza was incredibly greasy, which is why the 4 star. Everything else was great including the waiter

Yelp
This brewery is huge. There's a large patio. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to use it, as it was rainy, cold, and windy outside. There are two levels to the brewery. I like that you can look inside the brewing facility, even without going on a tour. All the workers were friendly. I had the chicken banh mi sandwich. It was decent. But nothing like a banh mi you'd get from a Vietnamese sandwich shop. The chicken was delicious. Very tender. The chips are made in house. However, they were cold and very greasy when they arrived. There's a HUGE selection of available beers. At least 20+ on tap. Plus many beers are available to go in cases & growlers.

Yelp
We won the "lottery pick" to purchase the morning delight. We were super excited to head up to purchase our beers. We tried two of the pizzas they were delicious. The beers we tried were amazing.

Yelp
We visited over Labor Day weekend, and they were swamped! We arrived right after 5 and still had to wait almost 15 minutes for a table, and by the time we left, the wait time was over an hour. The funny part is they had 3x the space but not enough servers to utilize it. The food was worth the wait, though. I did a custom pizza and my husband went with the ribeye sandwich. The pizza was huge and well worth the price, and it tasted great overall, even though I didn't love the crust (very thin and crispy without a ton of flavor). The sandwich was substantial and also had great flavor! My husband got a flight and loved how he could pick and choose the beers he wanted to try. Two of the four he ordered were great, one was average, and one tasted like grape juice, according to him, so it's good that he got a flight and didn't chance ordering just one. The price point was good and this is clearly a space where you could make an afternoon out of it, hanging out and ideally making use of the patio (when we visited, you couldn't order food out there due to the staff shortage). Definitely a place I'd recommend when you're in the area.

Yelp
Visiting again and it's a while new experience. Beautiful new location. Happy staff. Great beer selection. Try the Shandy or the Luther Lager. Yum. All the positive comments remain! Happy to upgrade from 4 to 5 stars. Gotta stop here.

Yelp
My husband and I took a road trip to Decorah to take advantage of a beautiful weekend and, of course, we couldn't wait to stop here! I had been here once before and had fallen head over heels for their Dragon Fandango. It did not disappoint on our second visit! We tried the Caprese pizza and were actually really impressed. I've never had great luck with food at places that focus a bit more on the drinks side. It wasn't the best pizza I've had, but I would get it again! I also really love the way they are handling the pandemic. Between the barcode menus and huge outdoor area, it's easy to feel safe here. With the whole staff in masks and masks mandatory if you leave your table, Toppling is to be admired for their precautions. Thanks for doing your part and keeping the drinks flowing!

Yelp
Took a trip down from the Twin Cities to try this beer straight from the source! The taproom is massive and they are busy! The service here is excellent. Our server was very attentive and would frequently come check on us for beer refills, even though it was the busy lunch hour. We ordered cheese curds and the taco pizza. The food was just okay. The cheese curds and sauces were pretty good but the pizza was pretty bland. Come for the beer and awesome servers, but maybe not the food!

Yelp
Pretty cool flights of beer. We had a great service and the service was prompt. Great teamwork atmosphere. The names of the beer are kinda funny too. Pseudo Sue & Luther Lager. Big place with lots of windows! Outdoor seating!

Yelp
Awesome brewery on the outskirts of Decorah. They are following all the COVID protocols - wearing masks and requiring you to wear a mask when you are not at your table, and disinfecting tables after people leave. The beer I had, Pseudo Sue, was a single-hop pale ale, and was really good. The food was also very good. I had the King sue pretzel, which is a Bavarian soft pretzel from Milwaukee Pretzel Co. Served with your choice of house-brewed mustard or Dorothy's lager beer cheese. Get both, they are delicious. I also ordered the Cubano, which is pulled pork, ham, and Gruyere cheese on a Cuban roll. Excellent! Keshawn was our server and he was so nice. We had questions about, not only the menu, but about Decorah too. He answered all our questions and made suggestions on what to see and do in Decorah. Very helpful and patient! Overall, a awesome experience at Toppling Goliath

Yelp
We traveled to Decorah just for Toppling Goliath and definitely weren't disappointed! Their added procedures for COVID were top notch with masks required until seated, lots of cleaning, and social distancing. Hubby LOVED trying all the beers and his favorite was a secret menu item called "Kevin." If you like IPAs, try Kevin. The food was great too. I split a Cobb salad and soft pretzel with my friend, and it was all so yummy!
