Tora Tora Sushi

A very tiny place with lots of potential and great food. It's more like sushi express but with full meals and side dishes. To go orders available. Clean. The service is beyond excellent. Only a couple of minutes between the time ordered and served. The lady was very polite and nice. Probably no rest room, if there is, it was hidden. Outdoor seating. Small tables. Cozy. Easy to order. Some of the meals are customizable.

SO phenomenal & fairly priced, the lemon cilantro specialty roll was truly to die for & the garlic pepper tuna specialty roll was delicious as well. plus the crunchy class roll & the shrimp tempura classic roll were perfectly done, overall so delicious & i can't wait to go back went back again & took more pictures & attached those here(:

Ordered for takeout and the staff were nice. The restaurant is clean and I love the mural! The food is super fresh and tasty. I highly recommend. The baked sushi is the best baked sushi I've ever gotten and their nigiri is soo good it melts in your mouth.

Food: 4.5/5 Service and Setting: 4.5/5 Value: 3.5/5 Tora Tora is the newest sushi restaurant that has opened up in Mira Mesa and they make great sushi. The interior of the restaurant is modern and clean, showing some personality with Funko figures hidden around the register area. To me, the dining area is chic while not being sterile, an issue that many restaurants have when going this direction. I find the seating situation to be awkward, but that is nitpicking at this point. The lady at the register was super kind and chill. When I asked her if the squid legs were made in house she just straight up said no and same with a couple other items I asked about. I appreciate her for being real and letting me try items that they craft themselves! Salmon Belly Truffle: 5/5 This truly amazed me. At it’s price point, I was not expecting much. The fish was so soft and fresh while having a luxurious truffle flavor. The main star of the show was the rice though. This is something I would expect in an omakase only level restaurant. It was the perfect temperature and texture, each grain of rice bouncy yet soft like a mini piece of rice cake. The rice was lightly seasoned and made the roll impossibly delicious. If they are consistent with their rice, they will probably be one of the best sushi restaurants in San Diego at any price point. My favorite so far and a very opulent experience. Baked Dynamite: 5/5 Again, high quality ingredients. What impressed me the most was that the dynamite sauce they used tasted very faintly of mayo and had a wonderfully light umami flavor. The seafood used in the dynamite, though they are scrap pieces for sure, are of high quality and fresh. Scallops, end pieces of fish, and I’m sure whatever else they have are respectfully cooked, holding the integrity of the ingredients and their flavors. They purposely do not use things like onions that are used to mask poor quality or old seafood and I 100% appreciate that. Must get. Miso Soup: 2/5 Standard miso soup. Came out pretty cold and meh. It was a nice accompaniment to the sushi though. Wasabi Mac’ Salad: 1.5/5 Tasted like grocery market mac salad with sour wasabi. I wish they tried harder on this for sure. Green Tea Tiramisu: 3.5/5 I got the inside scoop that they do not make this in store, but it was good! The matcha was light and not bitter. It was not overly sweet and felt cohesive, a word that is not familiar to many fusion desserts. I probably would give this a solid 4, but it was frozen solid so it tasted a bit dry since the lady fingers at the bottom did not have a chance to hydrate. A solid dessert if you wanted a complete experience here!

Parking: We had dinner at 8pm on a Friday and there were plenty of parking in the shopping plaza Ambience: Loud, upbeat. Great for take outs but a bit too small to dine in with more than 2 people Service: The service was Amazing! Very attentive and love the follow ups. Food: y of the freshest Sushi ever I’ve had Supports Military: No Discount Overall: Both food and service was on point here. I would definitely recommend and return to try more items on their menu.

Good food, fresh and hot. The price is very reasonable. I wish there were more Sashimi options. Mostly bowl options. Small seating space inside. I think this place is more of a pick up food location. But there was no wait for us on Friday night. Plenty of parking. And the staff are top notch.

This has become one of my favorite sushi places. The prices are very fair, especially for the great quality you get. Loved the presentation. We got the nigiri, salmon truffle roll, and mango habanero albacore roll with garlic fried rice and miso soup. Everything was, hands down, incredible. The nigiri was of great quality. Our friend got the baked dynamite, wasabi mac, and seaweed salad. We finished everything. It's a great take-out place as well.

This was our first time coming to Tora Tora and this is my new favorite spot hands down. The sushi was so fresh and flavorful, the staff was kind, and overall the price was amazing for the quality you get!! Each roll had such a unique taste and the fish was so fresh. We ordered the coconut ghost pepper roll (very spicy we loved it so be cautious if you can't handle heat), seared salmon roll, salmon belly truffle, and the mango habanero. As someone with a severe sesame allergy, they were very accommodating and made sure none of the rolls had any sesame oils/seeds. I highly recommend this and I'll be coming back asap!

I just quickly ordered 3 specialty rolls to go after getting a haircut at the adjacent barber shop. The rolls were great, the price was affordable, and I absolutely loved the tiger stamped in the Wasabi. Great job, I will be back!!!

Great sushi for take out between errands to the Target and Goodwill donation center next door. I made my order in person at the counter, went to target for 15 min and the order was ready by the time i returned. Short wait is key! Nice and fresh, and the rolls aren't gargantuan like some do with their special rolls. They're made just right. We also got the karrage, could do without the curry sauce it came with. Will definitely keep this in my rotation for quick pick ups when I'm in the Mira Mesa area.

Wasn't expecting much but the sushi was truly delicious! 10/10 recommend the Salmon Belly Truffle Roll. Space is small but has enough for seating if it doesn't get packed. This spot is shared in the same plaza as Target, 85 Degree Bakery and more. Right next to Bobalicious. There's a beautiful mural right as you come in! They gave complimentary sorbet ice cream & fortune cookie! I would definitely come back :)

Tora Tora Sushi is a nice mom-and-pop shop located in the Target and Menya Ultra plaza. For a quick sushi meal, this place exceeded my expectations, especially considering I didn't expect much. Comparing the quality of Little Sakana to Tora Tora Sushi, I thought it was pretty comparable in food quality already. I went here on a whim due to sushi cravings and ordered a Salmon Belly Truffle roll. The order came out pretty quickly (~5 minutes), but it's worth considering that there were no other customers in the shop at that time. The salmon was nicely seared and portioned well. There was a rich salmon flavor due to the belly, which accentuated the overall taste, and the truffle oil added richness to the roll. Not a bad combo at all. Overall, I'd say this place is worth checking out if you crave fast sushi (not comparing it with nicer sit down sushi places). I'm giving this a 4 star by comparing it to other fast food places. However, do keep in mind that if I were to compare with all restaurants including sit down places, I would rate this a 2-3 star.

This place replaced the sandwich shop that was there so I was curious on how it is. The logo was what drawn me into the place because of how cool the front is. The sushi was pretty good but it was nothing special or standing out from other sushi places. The decorations are subtle but there is more than minimal though. They don't have a lot of seating like there is a two long tables and few tables outside the store but it is more of a takeout sushi place.

Such great roll options. Very fresh and perfectly paired ingredients. Very reasonable prices. Now service and very quick with the rolls.

I come here quite often, as I live in the neighborhood, and the sushi rolls are actually a good price. I have been coming here since they first opened, and am still a regular customer here. I can honestly vouch for the creativity each sushi roll has, for example the salmon belly truffle, or the yellowtail wasabi. It is what drew me here to the first place, and the flavor profile is always there! I always get to-go, so I can't really say much about the service, but they use ChowNow for take-out, so expect some price increases there. The consistency is just not there anymore. As of late, I have been getting like 5 pieces for a sushi roll, when in average it is usually 8-10 pieces. You're essentially paying full price for half a sushi roll. Additionally, the amount of fish put into each sushi roll has decreased as well. More imitation crab, more avocado, more rice. I've left it at three stars, as the years before had been 5-star experiences, however my last three trips have proven otherwise. This place is definitely for close friends or dates, not the best for groups, as the area is small. Parking is free! Recommend to try their sushi rolls, as they have unique combinations and flavors! Also highly highly recommend their appetizers, such as their kaarage. They do the chicken just right!

Came at 11:47pm on a Tuesday and they had Potsu Radio playing in the background. I chose the sidekick option (1 Roll + 2 sides) I'm always hesitant to get sushi to go because I feel like the portion sizes change. I was running errands so I didn't have much of an option. The lady taking my order was very nice, she initiated some small talk and when I asked questions about the menu her answers were informative and kind. I got my roll pretty fast! That was my worry after seeing some reviews complaining about wait time, but that was not the case for me. I think I waited less than 3 min. My order portions were small, but filling. I was satisfied! Flavors and textures were good Would I come back? Sure!

Umph I have been wanting to try this place for awhile because I received a good recommendation that their sashimi salad suppose to be fresh and their rolls look amazing. I came here on Tuesday around 3pmish, there was no one here. There are plenty of parking spot but the restaurant is very small. I think most people do take outs because they didn't even have restroom for customers?!!! Like what? How are you suppose to wash your hands besides eating then?! The cashier lady wasn't that nice either, I asked if I can take pictures of my to go food before bagging and she said no... what... ok I ordered their popular sushi rolls which were 2 Salmon Belly Truffle 2 Lemon Cilantro 2 Mango Habanero YT 1 Sashimi Salad Their rolls had a lot of fake imitation crabs... I didn't like salmon belle truffle much.. it was boring. Mango habaneros was super spicy n it was ok. Lemon cilantro was best out of all. Sashimi salad didn't even come with dressing... I think they use a lot of salt or something to preserve the fish... super thirsty all day . Won't come back

Such a cute mom and pop shop! When my boyfriend and I arrived, I was expecting a restaurant but it was more of a to-go place with a few seating areas if you do decide to eat there. You order food at the counter and they'll bring it out to you! For the price point, the rolls were surprisingly very good. I haven't ate sushi rolls in a while and am more of a sashimi/nigiri girl but saw that their rolls looked so good that I had to stop by and try. Let's rate what I got: Salmon Belly Truffle Roll (5/5): If you have to get only one roll, this is a MUST. It's so delicate and fresh! Not heavy at all. Wasabi Yuzu Yellowtail Roll (3.5/5): My boyfriend really enjoyed this roll but I think the wasabi yuzu kinda threw me off a little! But still good! Gyudon Beef Bowl (3/5): Just your standard beef bowl but a little on the salty side. Wasabi Mac salad (5/5): oh my god??? Literally why have I never had WASABI Mac salad!! What a game changer! It's so yummy and honestly would come back just for this!!! If you like mac salad and spice, give this a try!

I've never been to a fast-casual sushi spot quite like Tora Toa. Upon walking in, it looked modern and clean, with about a dozen seats inside. I love the mural! It's pretty small but never seemed too crowded. We ordered at the front and they brought the food out to us. They were super fast!! We got our food within 5 minutes I think. Their menu is pretty impressive for a small sushi place. It looks like they focus mainly on rolls, so some rolls maybe be more saucy and may have more filler items. The only thing is the rolls could have had a bit more fish but it wasn't bad for the price. They had a variety of appetizers and sides too! I will probably come here to fulfill my sushi cravings in the future. food ordered - jalepeno lime roll: this was actually spicy! but it was't too overwhelming. I thought there was a bit too much sauce but the flavors were still yummy - garlic edamame: hard to mess up this classic app. no complaints, the soy, butter, and garlic flavors were tasty! plus it was a generous serving, definitely shareable. I ended up taking some home - salmon belly truffle: my friend got this one and I tried a piece. you would definitely enjoy it if you like krab filling - fried calamari: my friend got this, it was perfectly fried with a satisfying crisp

Super small restaurant, as most people order to go here rather than sitting in. My boyfriend and I got 3 rolls here. We got their monthly special yuzu yellowtail roll. We also got the mango habanero and salmon belly truffle rolls. My favorite was the salmon forsure! Super light taste with good balance of flavor. Salmon melted in your mouth. Yuzu yellowtail was nothing too special, was lacking in flavor. Mango habanero was super spicy so if you are not good with spice beware, but it was super flavorful. I just wish the rolls had more fish, but for the price point, it's pretty good. If you are looking for sushi thats good quality but not too expensive, Tora Tora is perfect!

This was a small hole-in-the-wall sushi joint that seems to be more popular with to-go orders; there was only one other person dining in when we came in at 7pm on a satudary night, but it did get busier as the night went on. The service was attentive but a little slow, which is understandable since they're a small business - our two rolls came out super fast but our appetizer and baked roll took a little bit. My verdict: Very well-priced sushi! We ordered 1 appetizer and three specialty rolls, and our total came out to be $45 - which was pretty great for what we got! The specialty rolls were filled with meat and wrapped in a VERY thin layer of rice, but most importantly tasted GOOD!! My favorite was definitely the truffle salmon, which was very balanced in terms of flavors and textures. Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised by this place and would definitely come back :))

First time here... we'll be back! I had the poke bowl and my wife had the sushi bake. The poke bowl was tasty and satisfied my craving! Tuna, avocado, cucumber, red onions tossed in a creamy sesame sauce with spicy fruikake. The sushi bake included mixed seafood, creamy aioli, eel sauce, tobiko, cheddar cheese, krab, onions, and avocado. It was warm and delicious! Cashier/server was very friendly and gave us sherbet topped with a fortune cookie!

I am very disappointed with my recent experience. I ordered gyoza but received spicy edamame instead. The receipt stapled to the bag clearly stated gyoza. Additionally, when I called to address the issue, the person who answered, identifying himself as "Jello," was very nonchalant about the entire situation, and refused to provide the manager's name. I request a full refund for this incorrect order as this ruined the dining experience. Furthermore, the order was missing all condiments and essentials such as soy sauce, ginger, wasabi, napkins, and chopsticks. It seemed as though the staff were rushing due to the imminent closing time of 8:30 PM. This experience was very frustrating!!!!!

Really good quality considering the rolls were $11.50 or less. The dine in experience was lowkey so I would opt for take out next time. Tora Tora Sushi was completely empty despite it being lunch time on a weekend. The restaurant was more suitable for parties of 2 given the smaller tables and counter seating. Appetizers came out quickly while the rolls took 20 minutes. Service was minimal but satisfactory. =ORDERED= I got the meal for 2 which included 2 rolls, 2 miso soups, 1 edamame, and 1 dessert of choice. The amount of food received was more than enough. *Miso Soup: standard but the tofu was a bit hard. Good saltiness otherwise. *Spicy Garlic Edamame: the best rendition of edamame ever. Extremely garlicky and hot. The portion was generous and shareable between 3 people. *UME Shiso Tuna: amazing for tuna lovers. The spicy tuna had some heat and was incredibly tender. The ume shiso vinaigrette was light so the orange lime ponzu predominated. The bluefin tuna was cut thickly and wasn't fishy. Loved how packed the roll was. *Wasabi Yuzu Yellowtail: despite coming with wasabi mayo, this roll was less spicy than the ume shiso. The wasabi mayo added some richness which paired well with the yuzu. The shrimp tempura was crispy and not oily. The imitation krab was light and not too creamy. The yellowtail was muted compared to the other flavors, Overall the roll elevated the classic shrimp tempura roll. *Matcha Tiramisu: a small slab of powdery cake. The ratio was heavily skewed towards the cream. The top was covered in matcha powder which didn't translate well into the cream. There was a minimal layer of lady fingers and half of my slice ended up having only cream. The rolls were definitely the highlight and I'll be coming back for the reasonable prices and stellar flavors. The dine in experience wasn't notable or speedy so I recommend take out instead.

Great, unique rolls! Many places have a general template of rolls, no matter what they name them. I appreciate that this place has gone above and beyond to offer more than that and elevate the experience. We've tried almost every roll and each one has not disappointed! You can't go wrong with any choice of roll, just depends on what you are in the mood for! Both to go and dine in has been great, though I prefer those options over delivery when getting sushi, but I think that's just personal preference.

We decided on take out on a Friday night. My husband went in to place an order and even though it wasn't busy in the restaurant, there were many take out orders placed. We opted to order the combo meal for 2 ($35), which included 2 bowls of miso soup, edamame, 2 rolls of choice, and 2 small mochi in a package. I ordered the lemon cilantro roll and my husband ordered the blood orange. I thought both were good. I didn't care for the large piece of carrot in the blood orange roll but overall I did like the citrusy, sweet flavor. I enjoyed the lemon roll, but wished the lemon slices were bigger. I do like my lemon rolls to have more citrus flavor so next time I will request extra lemon. The combo meal is a great deal. This meal did serve 2 people and we were pretty full. This place is located in the same shopping center as Target. Ample and free parking.

Came to try this place and had sashimi bento box! 1st of all, sashimi melts in your mouth like butter! The citrus corn salad dressing ridiculous! I eat at a lot of sushi restaurants and this is a hidden gem! Must try!

MY FAVORITE SUSHI SPOT. Tora Tora has truly gotten some rolls right. I eat their sushi every month and because these rolls are so good, I get the same three rolls!! We've tried a couple different rolls in addition but the three in these pictures are full proof. The balance in flavors and textures are perfect and they complement each other so well! This is a fast casual spot so you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Their service is SUPER quick and they have deals on Uber eats too! Perfect spot for a casual date night or hangout spot with friends.

Tora Tora is so delicious!! The staff are very friendly and informative and the chefs are amazing at what they do! They have one of the best poke bowls I've ever had! I always get this when I come! Their rolls are always so fresh and tasty. Tora Tora is a bit more on the small side, however, they do have a few tables inside and out. Their main emphasis is take out, so do not expect full service here. However, you can order at the counter and dine in. The servers are super helpful and they bring the food to you. Tora Tora is doing a great job integrating to-go sushi as a convenient, time efficient meal especially when you're on the go! A great addition to the neighborhood, especially when doing errands in the plaza they're located in. Definitely come support!

This new sushi place is tucked in the Target plaza. It can be pretty hidden since it's super small, but it's located right next to T-Mobile Bobalicious, and Hobby Lobby. I went on a Friday in the first hour they were open since I was in the area. It wasn't busy at all. The decor is very modern with that Japanese twist. There are Dragonball Z funkos located around which I think is cool pop culture decor. Since the shop is small, it wouldn't be a great place for large groups to dine. I got the "Rolling with my side-kicks" combo which includes a roll of my choice and two sides. I got the garlic peppered tuna roll with garlic rice and miso soup. The roll is great!! It tasted really fresh with that hint of organic greens since there are some places on top. The miso soup and garlic fried rice were good, but nothing extraordinary. I'm glad this place has been introduced to the neighborhood. Although there is Little Sakana located across the street, this location offers a much more affordable + fast service sushi meal that could still fulfill your sushi cravings. I will definitely be back to order more rolls and even take my boyfriend here!

The first time I tried Tora Tora was not long after they opened. At that time, I wasn't too impressed. The menu was limited and all together was just ok. However, we recently gave it another try and we were happy to see a expanded menu and prices relatively better than some of the other sushi places out there particularly for the rolls. I was also super happy to see gyudon on the menu! We definitely tried that. It was pretty tasty if not a little on the salty side. I would still try it again. We got a baked roll this time which was really delicious and the lemon cilantro is another favorite of ours. Wanted to also try the sides so we got the kimchi cucumbers and the corn cheese. We would get the corn cheese again but not the kimchi cucumbers. Love online ordering options so that definitely elevates it in terms of places to get take out from. My order wasn't ready to pick up on the shelf when I arrived. There was a fairly long line (yay for their business). I waited behind a few people before it was my turn and luckily they were in the middle of packing it. They seems quite busy and the girl working front of house was doing the best she could!

1.5 stars This is a takeout place with limited small tables where you can sit in and you can order online. Therefore you have to selected wasabi, soy sauce, chopsticks,..etc that are commonly comes with the orders. However, we didn't know that so when we went to pick up the food we asked for wasabi and soy sauce, and the server was so rude and telling us that we have to order it in order for them to give it to us when it's literally right behind them. We got 4 rolls. Food was mid to not good at all. So disappointed because of the good reviews we read. Very pricy for the bad quality. Also the size of each rolls are very small compared to other places I have been.

I came here for lunch one day during work and I really enjoyed it! The staff was really friendly and the place was very quaint. There's sitting inside and a little bit outside. Lots of rolls to choose from. I ended up going with the Dragon and Spider rolls. Both were really good! Very fresh ingredients and the flavors were balanced well. It's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it's pretty good for a small place like this. I do want to come back and try some of their funky rolls to see their creativity. However, the rolls were a bit more expensive than at other places, which is why I haven't gone back since I had this months ago. Still overall very good!

I'm visiting from out of state and was craving sushi... we ended up trying this sushi restaurant. This place hit the spot and satisfied my sushi fix. It's a little gem in Mira Mesa. You walk in and notice this amazing painting on your left... just gorgeous! The cashier was very friendly and helpful. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and helped us pick out a wide selection of sushi and foods to try. We sat outside since it was a beautiful day in Sunny San Diego. The service was great! The food came out fairly quickly. I'm visiting from MS so that alone was very impressive. I was also amazed by how fresh everything was. Every item we ordered was flavorful and so delicious. If ever you are in the Mira Mesa area, you should try this Sushi spot... you won't be disappointed.

I enjoyed the sushi at Tora Tora. This is not a high end sushi restaurant, so you can't expect top quality fish. However, I thought it was very tasty all things considered. A majority of the rolls were priced at $11.50, with the most expensive roll being $15. You order at the counter and they bring it to you when it is ready or nicely packaged for to-go. There is limited seating but it seems that most people opt for takeout. Service was friendly and efficient. I tried the Salmon Belly Truffle roll, Blood Orange Tuna roll, Sushi Bake roll and Curry Chicken Karaage. All were solid. Would definitely recommend for a fast and affordable sushi night.

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year! This year, I decided to make my costume from scratch and had my heart on being a piece of salmon sashimi because it's my absolute favorite! With my costume on, of course I had to have sushi for dinner! My daughter had visited Tora Tora and loved it, so we got some take out for an early dinner (so we could be home to hand out candy for the trick or treaters!). I wore my costume with pride, and when I showed up, the sushi chefs from behind the counter were more than impressed. They immediately offered me a complimentary roll of my choice, anything I wanted on the menu! My daughter had the Salmon Belly Roll before and highly recommended it, so that was my choice! Since my salmon costume had the shiso leaf, they added this to my roll. I love the taste of shiso leaf! We also ordered the combo "rolling with my side kicks" which consisted of any roll and green sides for $16 each. For our first combo, we ordered the Blood Orange Tuna with seaweed salad and fried rice. For the second combo, we ordered the Cilantro Salmon with wasabi macaroni salad and cheese corn. The orders were prepared quickly and when we got home, I was pleasantly surprised that the chef threw in 2 complimentary salmon nigiri, in addition to the complimentary Salmon Belly Truffle. That was really nice of them and totally unexpected! I have to say, I was really impressed with the quality, presentation, and taste of all the rolls! They were beautiful arts of work and there were so much attention to detail! Such high quality food at a reasonable price! I never expected a small take-out sushi restaurant to wow me, but they did--WOW! Excellent customer service on top of excellent food and excellent value! This is my new go-to place when I'm in a mood for sushi! I will definitely tell all my friends and family about Tora Tora! If you're in Mira Mesa, make sure you try Tora Tora! If you're not in the area, they're worth the drive! The only drawback to this restaurant is they have limited seating. I didn't count, but I think they had about 8 seats at a high top counter.

Just ordered from here Uber eats. Came with NO sauce no wasabi ginger nothing. Why even order sushi? Won't be ordering here any more and Uber wouldn't even help out

Straight up LIES! They advertised a buy one get one free crunchy, California roll, and gyoza on Uber eats. Guess what arrived, one of each. Never trust a shady lying restaurant, clearly this was a trick to get you to order from them. And let me say, the sushi was Garbage! Don't order from this place. Dishonest!

Wanted a quick lunch so I stopped by here, and I'm glad I did. They have the basics, some specialty rolls, and various side items. Most of the rolls are $11 each, so pretty good prices for sushi. I got the Dragon Roll and it was great. They have some seating inside and outside. You order at the counter, it's not a sit down restaurant. Service is pretty quick but not so friendly. Don't piss the workers off because they were complaining loudly with each other as customers left.

I was craving sushi and found you guys on Postmates offering bogo deals. I am so impressed! The rolls just melted in my mouth. You guys are definitely a new favorite. I'm surprised the gyoza didn't come with a sauce, but they did randomly hook it up with a side of the truffle sauce. Tiramisu is also my favorite dessert and I'm obsessed with matcha. I was VERY disappointed how small the piece was for $7 but wow it's amazing!!!! Thank you for a wonderful meal.

My new favorite local sushi spot! Great selection of rolls and great quality for the price! They also have combo options. I've enjoyed everything I've gotten so far. My favorite is the Lemon Cilantro roll. Gotta support my local small businesses!

Tora Tora is a great pick me up for when you're craving sushi on the go! The salmon and sashimi are always consistently buttery and fresh, but a lot (if not all) the rolls are a bit overwhelming with the imitation crab. My personal favorite is the takoyaki as its always crispy on the outside and not too soggy in the inside. I do notice that sides have decreased in size but you still get a good amount for the $5 you pay for. Service is great as all the workers are eager to have you have a good experience! I also recommend ordering ahead as the waiting area is a bit small!

We were celebrating an early birthday for the first member of our family in 2023. We weren't celebrating on her actual birthday because she had plans with her boyfriend and friends. It was just going to be our family, so I asked her what she wanted to do to celebrate one more trip around the sun. For the evening, she asked for sushi followed by a movie. Unfortunately, our favorite sushi restaurant Sushi Diner was closed on Sundays, so I checked Yelp for a sushi spot that was close to our movie theaters, had a high rating, and decent reviews. Tora Tora Sushi Specialist met all criteria and after eating dinner there, it fit our criteria of being a really delish sushi restaurant. Tora Tora is located in Mira Mesa, specifically on Mira Mesa Blvd. as one of the businesses in the Target and Hobby Lobby outdoor shopping center. The restaurant is next to Sayulita's Mexican Food, Golden Chopsticks, and just around the corner from Grocery Outlet and our fave ramen place Menya Ultra. It is a small restaurant with counter seating, two 2-person table seating inside, and one more table outside. I took a star off because the restaurant can't accommodate a large group and my family of four wasn't able to interact since there wasn't a 4-person table. When we were dining there, there were a lot of people coming in to pick up to go orders. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a beautiful, colorful, and cartoonish mural. The customer service from the employees were really good. Our go to sushi restaurant was Sushi Diner, but that closed down and there still is Sushi Diner 2, which we had intended to visit for the first time. Sushi Diner 2 was closed on Sundays, so I found Tora Tora. The restaurant is the order at the counter and they bring your food to your tabke establishment. I really liked the diversity of their menu where it had some interesting selections. For appetizers, we decided on garlic endamame, gyoza served with sweet and creamy chili sauce, and wasabi mac salad. The garlic endamame was finger licking addictive. The gyoza was fried golden brown, was tasty, and hit perfectly with the chili sauce. I really loved the wasabi mac salad, which was creamy, yummy, and the wasabi added a kick that was memorable. For our sushi choices, we selected two shrimp tempuras (shrimp tempura,avocado, cucumber, krab, eel sauce, radish, and soy paper), one philly (salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber), and fried tora tora (cream cheese, jalapeño, green onion, krab mix, red tobiko, eel sauce, and spicy mayo). Tora Tora's sushi isn't as hearty as our fave sushi place, but it's good quality, beautifully made, and I savored every single bite. My entire family thoroughly enjoyed our first time dining experience at Tora Tora. Tora Tora Sushi Specialist made for a wonderful birthday dining experience with delicious and quality food, good customer service, and convenient location to where we were going to watch our movie. I recommend they buy out one of the other businesses to expand, allow for 4-person seating, and indulge more customers with their yummy cuisine.

Pretty decent fast-casual sushi at a reasonable price. Our favorite rolls were: - Salmon belly truffle - savory and rich but still light in texture - Tora tora roll - double-bite pieces, but were flavorful and tasty - Spicy tuna - simple roll, done well - California - simple roll, done well Didn't enjoy these rolls much: - Lemon cilantro - not as refreshing as other lemon cilantro rolls I've had - Philadelphia - salmon was chewy and didn't taste fresh I'd definitely stop by again for a casual sushi pick-up.

Tora Tora Sushi is not good sushi. Unfortunately, I did not like the sushi at all. We ordered the nigiri set and the salmon truffle roll and the total was $38. Salmon Truffle Roll (2/10): The roll was mostly imitation crab, so if you like imitation crab then perhaps this roll is for you! The imitation crab overpowered the roll to the point where I could barely taste the salmon and even the rice. The truffle/mayo sauce on top was also not the best flavor either. Nigiri Set (3/10): The tuna toro and salmon were the only good tasting nigiri in the set. The rest of the nigiri were okay. Overall very low/okay quality sushi as well. Mac Salad and Fried Rice: The sides were okay, but they probably focus more on their sushi so it's okay. The fried rice did not have any flavor. The service was really nice though. She was very excited when bringing out our food :) Although the service was great, I'm disappointed to not have the same sentiment for their food. There is also minimal seats inside, can only eat outside or takeout really. Would probably not come here again :(

Love this local sushi spot. Was able to order online, easy pick up, no hassle! I ordered the blood orange tuna roll, lemon cilantro and soft shell crab hand roll. I think they must have messed up on my order and made an extra hand roll for me. Bonus! Overall, it's extremely fresh fish and the rolls are very "high end" sushi restaurant ingredients and combinations. I would recommend it as a quick sushi pick up spot!

When I was looking for sushi in the Mira Mesa area, Tora Tora popped up so I gave them a chance. Their menu is filled with a bunch of creative rolls, but they also have those regular crunch, spider etc rolls that everyone knows about. I decided to order the salmon belly truffle roll, the spicy tuna, and the dragon roll. Honestly, the salmon belly truffle didn't taste all that special, I honestly wished it was just salmon belly nigiri. The dragon roll was decent, but the tempura shrimp tasted a bit stale, so that was a letdown. Though I am not a spicy tuna fan, the spicy tuna roll was surprisingly delicious, and tasted fresh. Overall, it was an alright experience. I'll probably visit once in a while, but no more than that

Great spot for casual mid tier sushi when you're just craving some rolls and don't want to spend a fortune. Primarily a takeout spot, service was very quick and efficient. We got our rolls within 10-15 min from ordering at the counter. We ordered the salmon belly truffle roll, dragon roll, spicy tuna roll, and Philly roll. The rolls had a good ratio of fish to rice and overall were well made and exceptional value.

Came here once on a Friday night and since it's my first time, I wasn't sure what type of restaurant it is. But after I've tried once, here is my full review. I don't care for sushi restaurants that doesn't have sit down and wait service. That's the first thing, especially since I am obligated to tip even if I really didn't get much service. Secondly, they don't have many drink options. And they have water but in tiny cups and you have to grab yourself. I think my husband got up and went to get water 3 times. Lastly, the food. I feel is just ok, nothing special about it. Rolls are small and no frills. My rainbow roll was missing a piece of fish on top since it only has avocado and the fish on top is very thin and tiny. They are skimpy on the fish as you can see. I am better off going to get some poke bowls at this point for what I got.
