Great little dive bar with a stage! Live music most nights. Cheap drinks and good atmosphere.

Google
This is the place to be for some really good live music. I've been here a few times and have had a blast every time. Sometimes, are more crowded than others. If you like blues, you have to come on a Sunday.

Google
Had a great time everyone was dancing and totally enjoying the great trumpets and saxophones , drums , the young vocalist was amazing. I got to help hold a beautiful saxophone for one of the performers!!! (Woo woo! ) I felt special. He just so happened to be on the bar ! Yes on The BAR! It was crazy and exciting! I will definitely be back here again. Maybe I'll get to hold someone's trumpet next time lol .....thank you,, Torch Club Sincerely, Terra PS. AND THE BARTENDER SHE WAS GREAT TOO!!¡

Google
Who knew I would have ended up at the Torch Club.... I came to Sacramento to visit my brother and brought my saxophone with hopes that I would be able to find a place to play at. I knew it couldn't have been that hard, but the place I originally planned on going to claimed to be open on Google and then had a sign on their door that said they were closed that night and the next. It just so happened that earlier that day my brother's friend messaged him that they were going to the Torch Club for a jazz jam and would like us to come. The timing could not have been any better. We had such a good night and I had so much fun playing on stage with new people and hearing different music than I'm used to. The place was packed and the service was still great. The manager, I am assuming, allowed me to stash my saxophone case in a safe place while I played. Everyone was friendly and the vibe was cool 😎.

Google
I brought my Partner here to see Jinx Jones play. It was really fun! I was All of the staff were lovely. The door man was nice to us. The sound tech was effectively communicating with the band. I was pleased by the table to dance space ratio. Bartender was great! Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Great time at the Torch Club on Thursday with BrassQuatch Gang. Great sound , Great drinks , Great time on the dance floor. I'll be dropping in next time they are sighted.

Google
Went and saw Matt Rainey at the torch tonight and had a blast. Small crowd but everyone knew everyone. Felt like Cheers when we were there. Everyone was super friendly, drinks were reasonable and Matt was a great entertainer and musician. Bartender was great. Definitely will be going again. We went to the early show so it felt very intimate and connected. Matt had a good sense of humor and made the evening enjoyable. The venue is nothing fancy but it felt clean and taken care of. Tons of photos on the walls and I loved art hanging center stage of jazz musicians.

You ever buy groceries, wait in line to check out, then when it's your turn the 5 people behind you gets served first? Yeah me neither. But if you go here you might understand what I'm saying. Crazy part is when the guy who gets skipped tries to stand up for himself, the bartenders giggle and mock him when they think nobody is listening. Not sure what the protocol is here in terms of service. But next time I go I'll be sure to document whether or not there's equal access to services regardless of protected class. Cool place though.

Yelp
Great bands, friendly bartenders, fun crowds. Relaxed Sacramento crowds. What's not to love?

Nathan Z.

Yelp
Great low key bar with good drinks and live music on a regular basis. The service has been good and friendly every time I've been there. It is a solid regular stop.

Yelp
Nothing Too Fancy, But Good Music & Reasonable Prices! SITREP Came in with coworkers for a quick drink, some relaxing melodies and just a chill time. Thanks to our wondrous host for opening the doors early for us and relaxing our souls with the best drinks. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-torch-club-sacramento?select=HOW4YrPuA-DRhQAaKNZIyw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE SETUP It had actually been a few Covid-years since I had walked through the doors of this esteemed establishment. A couple in our work crew thought it was about time we RE-establish our after-work get-togethers since more of us were in the workplace. And on this occasion, our OLD old boss Tom was traipsing through town from his much vaunted retirement "estate" in the North Coast, so this was the perfect time to lasso him for some drinks and memories. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-torch-club-sacramento?select=1Y-oTX5yIdLiS_NvFi88yg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w DRINKS For me it just comes down to reasonably priced drinks and the friendly staff here to make the experience friendly and memorable. About six of us show up a full half hour early! Apparently they were still on a covid hour and weren't open til 6pm. However, we showed up at 5:30pm and she opened the bar for us. And because Torch Club has a reasonably-priced menu of drinks, I found myself (surprisingly) buying the first round of drinks for everyone! (WTF?) :) OLD FASHIONED When it comes to my poison, I always head to WHISKEY. And if I'm doing whiskey, I'm going straight to an Old Fashioned. And Torch Club knows how to make it perfect. But dam if my current boss Jodean won't let me drink my Old Fashioned in peace! :D https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-torch-club-sacramento?select=Ruy3Ksef4TUD_Kh5YEjL_Q&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w MUSIC And of course, if you're into some smooth jazz, some Blues, or light honkey-tonk, there's a stage where a lot of bands set up and wow us with their skills. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-torch-club-sacramento?select=X1o4r2CFHUSb5e_rWmxXbw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE LOWDOWN A wonderful time for friends & colleagues in the Torch Club.

Yelp
Wow, we found this spot last minute on a Sunday night, and didn't expect much. But we were amazed. It was exactly the type of event that we love attending, not just live music but the carefree atmosphere, musicians engaging in an open session with soulful jazz, though from the decor and from what the bartender told us about the history of this place, the venue is known for its blues performances. And the walls are covered with artwork and photos that create such a unique ambience, from clown paintings to photographs of famous performers.  The drinks here are really good (I had a lemon drop and my partner had the Moose Drool). And the staff is so friendly. Toward the end of the night, the bartender took the time to tell us more about the venue, the music, and the history. It's rare to find a place that not only has live music 7 days per week, but GOOD live music. It was awesome, and the perfect place to spend time with my partner this past weekend. Note, on a Sunday, the live music ended around 11pm, and the place closes around midnight.

Mari R.

Yelp
Omg if you love a dive bar this is the bar is for you!!!!! We got modelos it was Can .. we aren't fans but we didn't complain lol and we did shots. There was a live band. The bar only had one girl on a Sunday night The bathrooms were clean at least

Bruce S.

Yelp
Awesome establishment, and Mark (bartender) is the glue that brings it all together. Sundays blues/jazz vibe that is unmatched. A must visit in downtown Sac!

Yelp
Sorry Polonco Cantina. This is the best margarita I ever had. Then again, Covid is rampant right now so....

Yelp
Don't let the name fool you. This is not a "club" in the sense like you might be thinking: paying $20 for drinks, paying a cover to crowd into small spaces with sweaty 20 something-year olds. It is not like Mango, Faces, or even like the place next door, the Republic. This is a dive bar. One of the oldest, if not the oldest in Sacramento. Been open since the end of Prohibition. They have live music four nights a week. So its' fantastic if you love music. The crowd is a mix of young and old, the drinks are cheap, and the decor is pretty random and interesting. This place needs a serious image revamping however, as you would hardly even notice its existence if it weren't for Yelp or Google, and even then the sign is extremely small. The front of the building looks almost abandoned, and the back of the building has no fun mural or any kind of decoration like the adjacent bar, the Republic. If you like karoake like me, this place also has live music karoake on Sundays from 8pm until midnight! You get to feel like a rockstar playing with a live band. Also earlier in the day if you want to bring up an instrument and jam with them you can.

Susie M.

Yelp
Great music. No food but they let you bring some in. If you want something to Sri l you need to go get it. Fun vibe. Quite busy

Joyce T.

Yelp
For a dive-ish bar, its laid back, welcoming, has a lot of drink selections, live music, has a juke box and the walls are lined with interesting photos and clown paintings. Even after the band played, the blues music and sauntering beats of American old pleasantly filled the room. A nice end to a late night since they close at 2 am.

Lino C.

Yelp
Sacramento classic! Great bands, stiff drinks and reasonable prices!!!! High energy atmosphere.

Megan H.

Yelp
I'm writing this now because my friends and I were just lamenting about how long it may be before we get to spend a night out at this amazing place. Let me start by saying that The Torch Club is not a refined bar where you take someone to impress them with upscale cocktails and Pinterest decor. This is where you go (with friends or solo) when you want to experience a true dive with cheap, strong drinks in plastic cups and bands that make you dance like a drunk aunt at a wedding (we all have one of those, right?). We go to Torch Club when they've got a funk band coming in to play a set. The crowd is always a mixed bag of young and old and everyone is there to have a good time. Some of my fondest memories in Sacramento have been spent dancing with friends here! 4 stars because the bathroom is never what you want it to be (a sign of a true dive) and there's usually a cover, which can be inconvenient. I will say drinks are cheap so it kind of makes up for it! Torch Club, we love and miss you. Can't wait to have a (mostly gin) gin & tonic and sweat it out on the dance floor!

Micki M.

Yelp
We were in the area and texted some friends to see what they were up to and ended up here. Since they live downtown, they frequent the local bars and this is one of their faves. We came here around seven and there was a band playing. The band was called, "The Happy Hour Band." Let me say, I was impressed. You have to love music to be thoroughly appreciate them. Although I didn't know the songs, you can really feel the intensity in their performance. I love a good live band, and that's what they were. There was a diverse mix of people here. No judging. It's a Dive and that's what we're looking for. The bartenders were nice and the patrons were all happy go lucky! Glad to experience this place and will be coming back, if we're in the area.

Brian A.

Yelp
Good upscale dive bar. Live music to midnight. Pure sticky floor bar, but brightly lit and spacious. Cover charge cheap. No food. Just drinks. Room for dancing. Drinks poured strong. Understand what it is and isn't, and you'll be fine. Crowd on younger side.

Patrick H.

Yelp
Photo after the door stated to us free till 9pm.. literally 5 mins before 9pm and after he said it's not to us all I took this screenshot - take your business elsewhere not a friendly or chill vibe at all,

Chris B.

Yelp
Norm Collins and the Tumblers put on a great show. Warm inviting place with great music. Check it out.

Yelp
I just had to go to the Torch Club on a Wednesday, the day before Halloween to see a funky band jam out. Most likely, back in my bar-hopping days, I had been there before. Seems as though the place has been around for a million years and it looked as though some of its patrons had been too. Didn't matter, everyone was there to have a good time and it was a blast! The stage was a tad bit small for the seven piece band, but they managed to squeeze in there and get the crowd dancing on the wide-open dance floor. It was relatively easy to get in and out of the crowd for more drinks without elbows getting bashed. I must give a shout out to the lady tending the bar. She was prompt to acknowledge me with a smile every time I approached, and by the third time, she even knew my order. I can't say this is the hippest place around, but a good enough spot to stop and get a drink and pass the time away.

Brian K.

Yelp
Bars and restaurants come and go but Torch Club withstood the test of time. It's a real dive inside so I was always wondering why? It's not the happy hour discounts because they really don't have any. It's not the drinks because their whiskey sour tasted like a lemon rind. I think I discovered their formula for success though. It's just good damn fun! I was hanging out late one afternoon and decided to stay for the show. War Elephant took the stage and rocked the house down! I looked around and realized that everyone was having a great time... And so was I.

Jay R.

Yelp
Hey, I'm local. If you want the best bang for your buck/ live music-wise, I'll leave my vote here. It is more of a dive than a classy place, but it is safe. In my lowly opinion, this spot charges you a reasonable door fee for a great band. As in they are talented; you will probably like them. Hey, there's also an open air window out front you can peek in to see what you think. I like cheap beer and whiskey, so I'm not rating their mixed drinks. This is a safe easy walk from nearby hotels.

Sabrena M.

Yelp
First time here! Loved the environment-the crowd-the music-the dancing and great bartenders! The vibe was really laid back and relaxed. The people who were there were very friendly and there to have a good time. No adolescent behavior to be found! Love that! It's no wonder why the Torch Club has been in business for so long! I think I might just have to become a regular!

Paul H.

Yelp
The Torch Club is an absolute gem. Well-curated live music in a warm, affordable, unpretentious environment equipped with a dance floor. Always such good vibes here.

James S.

Yelp
When you walk into the Torch Club, you are walking into a family living room. You just won't realize it unless you pay attention. The staff are a family, the patrons have been coming, drinking, and dancing for years, and the whole thing is in honor of Ron Teixera who owned the Torch Club at its original location. His daughter Marina keeps it running. We should be thankful that a place exists like this in Sacramento where you can go and know the people next to you are there for the same reason: have a good time, love, dance, laugh, and cause no trouble.

David C.

Yelp
Like live music? I do xD Been here a few times before, and then came here with a few friends before a concert across the street to have a few drinks prior to things kicking off. Ironically the last time I was here was right before a concert as well to go see Everclear when they were in town months ago. Not to date myself or anything, but oh well everyone grew up somewhere at some point xD I always like live music, and since you can usually always catch something here its quite nice I'd say. There's lots of seating and standing room and you'll find something that suits you hopefully when you get in music wise. The bartenders and people at the front have typically been chill when I've been in so no complaints there haha. Drinks came out quick, and good pours on whiskey. Not the greatest selection of liquors but there's a lil for everyone depending on what you want. Most times its a chill spot with some background music to boot. Sometimes you can get some reggae or jazz, or covers being done. There's a schedule somewhere so check that out beforehand and go to see some music. I'll have to update when I figure out where that is aside from specifically at the bar xD Definitely check it out sometime if you're looking to just kick it with friends and maybe get a small show on the side.

Sal V.

Yelp
My goto place for dancing and ambiance. It consistently offers a safe, cozy, and friendly atmosphere. The drinks are reasonable and although adequate, the dance floor offers many of us dancers a chance to cut some rug (dance). The Texeira's Torch Club is a Sacramento Jewel that has offered an array of live music, reminiscent of Bill Graham Presents philosophy. Although it's billed as a Blues club, it offers much more. Amid our current medical climate, the Torch has implemented vaccine requirement, not only to keep the business going but to keep its patrons and employees safe. Now we don't have to be stuck at home if we want to socialize with like minded responsible people.

Bill M.

Yelp
Best place for live music nightly in mid town. Very reasonable cover charge to see great music. Never disappointed with a show here. Lots of great food options close by for dinner before the show. Sacramento needs more places like this !!!

Sean D.

Yelp
Great intimate place with lots of local history. Come on live music night! Helping out tonight with a hurricane relief concert for Puerto Rico. Friends, drinks, and great live music for a good cause!

James W.

Yelp
Torch Club is a Sacramento gem. The place has fine musicians coming in and out every week, a good bar selection, reasonable prices, and a sociable clientele. There's really no place like it locally. Music ranges from blues to funk to jazz to Americana, and there are different bands during happy hour and the evening headline spot. Local musicians are also appreciated here. Today, I dropped in in Dos Hombres Jazz Coalition and had a great evening, but it always is at The Torch Club.

Angela B.

Yelp
This place is a great bar. Nothing fancy , relaxed atmosphere and Very friendly bartender , great service and even better drinks ! Came on a Sunday and they had karaoke with a live band . I will definitely be coming back .

ARIeL P.

Yelp
Great staff. Didn't know what I was getting into, but folks I was with knew the owners and staff. Skipped the cover, but didn't mind paying. It's a Blues club that has generations of history in Sacramento. I appreciate live music. Totally an older crowd and different from what I'm used to, but I enjoyed it. It seems like generations of folks has been the clientele. I was told they do community work, and I bought peanuts to support a young individual for her trip. Missed the second band to get dinner, but I enjoyed history of Sacramento.

Feren Y.

Yelp
Live music, cheap drinks, dance floor. What more do you need in life? I went to Torch Club to listen to the Lana Price band and when I got there I snagged a bar seat and was served quite quickly. Everyone at the Torch club is friendly though someone next to me felt as though the bartender was not being friendly, I did not get this vibe at all. The bands here play several sets and the cover charge was very reasonable when I visited ($8). The band played till 1am and everyone was up and dancing and chatting to each other. If I lived in Sacramento I would be a regular visitor at the Torch Club. The setting is casual and comfortable and you will find all sorts of people in all shapes and sizes here enjoying a night out.

Beatrice R.

Yelp
Great intimate venue with live music from funk to blues. Come as you are or dress it up a bit either way, the music is always at a minimum good but every time we have been, it is great! You can people watch, dance or sit alone and feel at home. I do recommend coming early if you are attending the late show if you want to get a table. Seems to pack the house quickly. Oh and cover charge is cheap, never been over 10.00!!!! All ages welcome if you enjoy live music!!

Dio B.

Yelp
This place stinks because they try to stick you with a $12 cover after 9pm on a Saturday and drinks are around $10.

Adam P.

Yelp
A little slice of very important history for Sacto blues and beyond. Always a safe and welcoming environment. I used to play the open mic night here years ago and the Torch is one of those places that has that deep musical vibe any day or time.

Draya T.

Yelp
It's a great place to come n see entertainment that comes from all over California and Nevada. It's a little bit of a dive but, it makes up for it in entertainment.

Beth L.

Yelp
Kind of a dive, but a great happy hour band on Thursdays. Love the roots music and watching aging "hippies" dance. Friendly place.

Dennis D.

Yelp
bad vibes here, big fat guy enforcers who don't speak proper English; dive bar with watered down well drinks (what else is new); limited seating; sound system is whatever the act brings in; be careful here. Dr. D.

David O.

Yelp
The Torch Club is where real people get down. Old, young, rich, poor, and whatever race. Music brings people together. That and reasonably price libations. The live acts lean bluesy and crowd refreshingly mature. Live band karaoke is every other Sunday I believe. It's a great time to check out the Torch Club, some people have serious pipes. In a growing sea of $6 wells and people too worried about looking cool to have fun, the Torch Club burns bright. Make sure it's in your rotation.

Jenni T.

Yelp
I came to The Torch Club one weekday evening to see fellow Yelper Dominique M's Dad play in his band. The Torch Club is located in one of the areas in Sacramento where it's hardest to find parking, so I was happy it was a middle of the week show to make my parking search a little easier. The inside of the venue is very dark, I was looking for my friends when I walked in and had a hard time seeing them. I also have to agree with Regina W's review when she said that the people watching wasn't very great and she saw all there was to see within 30 minutes. I completely agree that everyone who comes here comes to see the bands (and that it's an older crowd) so there isn't much of anything exciting to see except for watching a bunch of people sitting around watching a band. The crowd is on the older side; I felt like I was one of the youngest ones there. The bathrooms are kept clean and there are plenty of tables and chairs to sit at as well as a long bar. Because of this I do see how if it is a crowded show the band might be tough to see unless you're sitting in the front row or two. No food is served, only alcohol. I would come back to The Torch Club if there was a band playing that I really wanted to see, or if one of my friends wanted to stop in. It's definitely not someplace I would spend my entire night though, it's not exciting enough for that.

Nicole M.

Yelp
I love this place. The music is consistently good, and frequently fantastic. Everybody is out for a fun time and the staff are always friendly.

Lelania A.

Yelp
Ahhh The Torch Club, like home to me. Service is always warm and professional. Happy Hour Music?! Yes, please! Comfortable, inclusive & fun. Sit at a table, a high table or the bar.. or even outside on the nice bench. Great music in a convivial atmosphere done with class.

D C.

Yelp
We hit this place for a beer before we started our evening. For starters, they charged us $10 bucks a person. We had a group of 10 people, so before we got into the bar, we dropped a $100 bucks total on cover charges. Finally when we got in, everyone was holding seats and bar table with their jackets. I remember there was 5 bar stools empty, but were being saved by people on the dance floor. So, our party had to stand in the middle of empty seats and tables, due to people saving their seats. Not sure if I would recommend or come back. If they due away with their cover charge, I don't think I would have an issue coming back to grab a beer. Maybe you might find this place to be better then I did.

Jimmy Y.

Yelp
On August 6th 2018 not only we're The Byron Brothers stiffed by the owner of The Torch club after playing from 9 till midnight (their agreed to time) they were also rude to the band. At one point the security guy came up on the stage after they announced it would be their last song screaming at them that "you're not done". He just went OFF, yelling at the band as he walked across the room, in front of the entire audience. He also told them you're not getting paid. Which they didn't. I'd stay away from this place if I were you. 0 stars.

Mike B.

Yelp
Stay away. Mismanaged and incredibly rude staff. If you are in a band and thinking of playing here, don't waste your time. They are known for stiffing bands. What a shame, this place was once good.

Kari E.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, I'm so sad I didn't come here earlier. This is exactly my kind of place. Good music, good ambiance, good mix of people (yes, mostly skewed to the older side, but that can be a good thing. There are enough places for the young folks.) Drinks were about a dollar more than I would expect for a place like this, but whatevs. They do accept cards, it's just a 10 dollar minimum. Creeper count for the night: 1. Which sadly is pretty much as low as it can be.

Chris N.

Yelp
Horrible service, security is rude, and the place is filthy. They stiff the bands and use their reputation to book them.

Alex L.

Yelp
There are a number of aspects that have to meld just right to make for a great dive. Especially if that dive is touted by many as the go-to music venue for intimate viewings of fledgling acts. I've been on many an occasion - daytime, nighttime, drunk, sober, when there was music and when there was not - and I can say it's always a unique experience. There alway seems to be a larger over-40 clientele than many of the other dives-turned-hipster-hangouts on the grid. The drinks are stiff and it's easy to get lost in the bottom of a tall glass of one of their many beers. The downside is the music portion. The stage sits at the far end of what is basically an open room. If it's a crowded show, there is almost no visibility unless you're up close and it gets hot. The random tables and chairs around the floor make it difficult to navigate to the bar or the bathroom. And the sound system is barely hanging on - the last two bands I've seen there have complained into the mic about how certain amps or instruments kept cutting out. I appreciate the Torch for what it is, but I also see it as having as many strengths as weaknesses. Tied in with a visit to Republic next door, it's a worthy place to spend an evening.

Dan M.

Yelp
Great band awesome door man and bartenders where very nice! If you want a nice swing dancing live band then this is where you go! It look d like many locals frequently go there dancing . The decor was fun to look at and being a sac state alumni I can't believe I never went to this cool downtown bar while I lived in sac town If ever staying downtown again I'll definitely go back ...

Mia C.

Yelp
Awesome live music till about 1:30 am - and it is not just some random music, those people were legit with some great instruments and real peppy songs. It is a dive bar kind of setup with mostly people in their 30s and 40s. Our group arrived here after midnight and stayed till around 1:30 am. There is a dance floor right next to the stage. We danced to the live music and had so much fun!!

Dennis B.

Yelp
This place smells like piss and the security is out of control. Drinks are watered down. Looks like they stiff the bands too. Don't waste your time. I will never go back
