Yelp
TLDR: slow service, poor quality, mediocre food/drinks, actually makes you miss Santa Rita
Honestly, this could probably be a 1-star review. I've been to the Slaughter Torchy's at least 4 times since it opened, and almost nothing has changed in my experience to improve my opinion of this location since my first visit. Although, the first visit was the worst, last night's wasn't much better.
Where to start? How about with as soon as you walk in the door and get in line. I've never been here when the cashier process isn't painfully slow. It doesn't matter what you order, from a side of rice to a taco to a drink, the cashiers act like they've never looked at the menu or the cash register before. It's painful to experience, and the line moves at a slow crawl at best. I expected slow cashier service during my first visit, since the staff were probably learning the system. Last night was no better.
Then you move over to the drink station. In 4 visits, the drink area has been a mess. With cup lids spread around, and spilled drinks everywhere. Last night, only one of the ice machines had ice when I was there. How do you run out of ice during a dinner rush? During my first visit, I ordered a beer. It was served to me FLAT and warm. Again, I figured it was just because of opening jitters, but I no longer order beer because of it. Now, the non-alcoholic drinks are a mess too?
Then the service. During my first visit, it took over an hour to get food and even then our order was incorrect. Again, I chalked it up to opening jitters. Last night, the place was half-full, and it took over 30 minutes to get our food, and guess what? The order was still messed up. Ordered a egg/bacon burrito and the egg basically a brick with a piece of bacon fused in the middle. It looked like it'd been sitting under the heat lamp for the entire night. Either way, how does it take so long to make a taco? It's not like they have an incredibly varied menu. We're talking a dozen or so different tacos most sharing the same ingredients. With the slow service at the cashier, you'd think that would give the kitchen enough time to keep up?
I've been to a bunch of the other Torchy's locations in town and this is BY FAR the worst one. From start to finish and like I said this really could be a one star review, but I still like their queso. Maybe with the closing of the 1st & El Paso location, they'll move some better kitchen and cashier staff over to help this location. I know I won't be back.
