My partner and I spent $250 to get a gold card for free cheese for a year. I went for a week, and in the second week, the manager told me I had to make a small purchase to bring the total to $8 because the system wouldn't allow it otherwise. They suggested I buy tortillas because they're the cheapest item, but why would I buy or pay for something I don't need just to get something I've already paid for? If I go for the cheese all year, that would be at least $500 I'd spend on tortillas alone (because they're the cheapest) just to meet the minimum purchase requirement. The manager gave me the cheese this time but said it wasn't possible that I had received the cheese before without making a purchase, which is false, I had been receiving the free queso the previous week without any complains. The manager also said that the back of the card states in small print that a minimum purchase of $8 is required, which is not true because it's not indicated anywhere. Furthermore, he cynically told me thank you for telling him that they had given me the cheese for free because that way he would be able to tell his staff not to do it again.
This used to be my favorite place, and my partner and I have spent a lot of money at different locations, but I'm disappointed by the poor treatment and these kinds of practices. Why are they suddenly requiring to complete an $8 minimum purchase? Can't someone just come in, order a taco, and pay for that taco which is in turn less than $8?
My partner would never spend $250 on a card for this again, much less give one as a gift, knowing that they'll limit its use and adds tricky conditions to it. I don't think I'll even go back to this place. Completely disappointed. The manager was very rude.
Please be aware of this kind of sketchy practices.
