A Casual Pizza Spot With a Mural of a Beer-Drinking Bear Comes to Capitol Hill This Week - Eater Denver

"Torchy’s Tacos, the popular Austin-based taco shop chain known for serving huge tacos along with boozy margaritas, will open its fourth Denver location in southeast Denver next month. The new Torchy’s will be located at 6325 East Hampden Avenue in The Shoppes at Highpointe shopping development located just off of Interstate 25. That space was formerly the home of a location of barbecue chain Jim N’ Nick’s Community Bar-B-Q." - Paul Albani-Burgio

Love this place. My favorite restaurant outside of the east coast. Amazing food and service. Always leave stuffed. Love the atmosphere. Not 100% recommended if you can’t handle spicy, but even if you are sensitive, you should be able to find something. Absolutely love this place, only have positive comments about this place. You want Mexican food, this is the place to come, highly recommended it, and they should have wherever you are. My personal favorite taco of theirs is the fried avocado, one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. YOU NEED TO COME HERE AND TRY THIS PLACE!!!

Google
Immaculate. Don’t usually review chains but Torchy’s is goated and I wish there was a location in SLC. But we told them we just finished our drive from Utah and they gave us a free taco and free drinks. Mad respect. As always, get the trailer park tacos TRASHY style. It’s the only way. Thank you Torchy’s!

Google
This place is okay if you are in a pinch and want some tacos on the fly. I ordered the Baja Shrimp and the Brushfire tacos. Both were pretty good but it's seriously hard to wrap my head around tacos that cost $6.50 for one taco. All in all not bad.

Google
👎Inconsistency across locations. I order a taco and a half size tots all the time and this location gave me the smallest portion of tots possible. I asked them about it and the cook came out wanting me to present my receipt so he can tell me that a half size tots comes with 10-13 tots. Which they gave me exactly 13 👏. But I didn’t argue I just will never spend my money with Torchy’s again 🚫

Google
Delicious food! I got a baja shrimp and a Democrat taco. We recieved outstanding customer service from Gaby. She was able to help us with our order. I would definitely come back just for her! Thank you so much Gaby!

Google
They have a Gluten Free menu!! And we brought our dog along to sit on the patio. Frozen margarita and polomas were a hit!

Google
I love Torchy's. This one has a nice patio dining area. My favorite taco is the fried avocado. They also always have a temporary flavor that can be fun to try in addition to their normal menu.

Google
Really good and unique tacos with reasonable prices. The service was great, and the staff were engaging. It's a fun place for an easy sit-down taco break.

Yelp
Location was clean, ordering was easy and the service was great! I went with a group of people and our food was brought out fairly quick for the large order it was and everyone's items were correct. Tacos were delicious and portions were big. You don't need more than two to satisfy your hunger especially if you have an order of their queso dip! Pricing is a bit of the higher side, but for some "Damn Good Tacos" with quality you can taste, definitely a great place to stop in for a meal if you love tacos!

Yelp
Food was good enough, but it took way too long for the order to get out. Wasn't overly busy on a Saturday night, but it took over 30 mintues for food to come out for a table of 4. Queso is the bomb, but will not be returning to this location due to the poor service. Updating the review, there was some problem in back and the manager was really nice about it. Still was way too long of a wait, but they dealt with it well. And the tacos were bomb.

Yelp
Fantastic street-style but creative tacos - but much larger and in flour tortillas. Two will fill up most of people, and one probably enough for light eaters. Really good guacamole and very large house margarita. Funky, counter-order style. A winner we found while traveling, through our Denver-local foodie son.

Yelp
Ordered a big lunch (40 tacos) for a clinic lunch, and these guys DROPPED THE BALL. they had a day in advance to secure this order and I'm telling you, they totally missed the mark. Right now I've got a clinic of 25 people waiting for food that may never show up. Consider yourself warned. Order catering somewhere else.

Yelp
We go here every once and a while. Quicker than some other sit down tacos places, but approximately the same price. We usually always get a trailer park, tried avocado, and then the seasonal. We got the hillbilly queso to start which was good, but luke warm which was disappointing. I also tried the republican this past time and would not get it again, as it really didn't taste like a taco. Note to self, they have grown in size and definitely only need to get 2 tacos per person!!!
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
Love the margs here and the tacos are out of bounds! If you like queso not a bad idea for appetizer. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Always great for happy hour or lunch or dinner even their breakfast is great! Don't forget to ask for the secret menu if your feeling dangerous lol
google avatar

Geffrey Q.

Yelp
This is a walk up and order place. I have been here before and it never disappoints. Ordered one off the secret menu - green chili pork missionary style, crunchy corn taco on a flour tortilla, flavor was great with a little less pickled onions. Also ordered the tipsy chick, now this will be on repeat order, the bacon bourbon sauce was amazing. My friend ordered the avocado and the trailer park, which he said he really enjoyed. The avocado one was his favorite of the two. Service was friendly and prompt. Not crowded for lunch and place was very clean.

Yelp
This location has the best service and the food is always great. This location is our favorite in the Denver Metro area. This is the only location that someone comes by my table and asked if we need more chips!
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I got the Democrat and the lime wedge was missing. Also the first bite revealed the meat was all a chunk of fat. The rest of the meat was unseasoned and tasted fatty. I unfortunately couldn't finish.
google avatar

Jelena L.

Yelp
Good grief this place has gone downhill.....The tacos were awful. One was extremely salty and one had bad beef, very chewy inedible. Also, this place had no service. We had to order at the bar, go find a table and someone brought out the food. There was nobody around to take another drink order, you have to get up and go to the bar. I was going to give this place a 1 star, but the bartender girl was amazing running the entire place basically all by herself. It was pretty busy on a weekday. She deserves a raise.
google avatar

Savanna R.

Yelp
We got there during the dinner rush, so it did take a bit for food and drinks, but honestly worth it! We loved the margs, chips and queso! Our tacos were so tasty. We really liked it here!!

Yelp
This place is an anomaly. Really when you think about it, Torchy's is essentially gringo tacos. And I'm a sucker for traditional tacos. BUT. I'LL. BE. FRIGGIN'. DAMNED. Every time I come here, I'm blown away by the quality of the food and sheer amount of flavor packed into each item. I just don't get it. Especially for a chain with nearly 100 locations at this point. Nine times out of ten the quality suffers. Not here man, Torchy's is the exception to the rule. Torchy's is one of my wife's favorite places to eat. And every time she wants it I roll my eyes. I think to myself, there are so many mom & pop taco trucks and restaurants we can support. Places that I really enjoy or want to try. But then I'm shown the light. Who the heck do they have cooking back there?! The queso is spicy and chips are always spot on. Order them. For tacos, Baja Shrimp, Democrat, Trailer Park, Green Chile Pork, and Fried Avocado are winners. Damn, I'm starting to salivate on my keyboard. As the Yelp community manager, people ask me for recommendations quite frequently. And more often than not, I'm going to tell you to go a small, local business because those places are the most rewarding to go to. It puts money in the local economy. But hell, if you want a reliable damn good gringo taco, Torchy's gets it done and gets it done right!

Yelp
was excited to try this place knowing they are coming to Phoenix. Ordered chips and queso and the vagabond taco. everything was delicious, until 10 hours later when a massive bout of food poisoning had the taco violently erupting from my body! my wife is sad because her food was good but there is no way I can ever eat here again.

Devon

Yelp
Food is good, but they have a drive-thru that nobody, and I mean NOBODY apparently monitors. On multiple occasions I've sat there forever for nobody to answer it. And if you think it's cuz they're busy, THEY'RE NOT. After going inside after again being ignored in the drive thru, there were maybe 3 customers in there (still had to wait 20 minutes for 2 tacos, but I digress...) Shut the drive thru down if you're not gonna use it. Most people aren't just gonna back out, park and come in, they're gonna just go elsewhere.

Yelp
The bartender had a cool name but I forgot it he was so awesome, great service and delicious fresh and warm food. Even the drinks and cleanliness was top notch. Definitely going to become a regular

Yelp
We had a wonder time with great music softly playing while enjoying the company of our friends. This lovely place for fast and tasty food with friendly staff.
google avatar

Katy K.

Yelp
Staff is very friendly at this location. Gaby who was working the register the night I went was amazing at recommending what to get. I was overwhelmed of what to get as everything looked yummy. Delicious tacos and drink. Will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Sherree D.

Yelp
Personally, I love this place. It's a great meal at a great price and the staff is always friendly. The tacos are unique and filling with a variety of interesting sauces. My favs are The Democrat (super moist barbacoa), the Trailer Park (get it "trashy"), and the Tipsy Chick (grilled chicken + roasted corn with an *amazing* sweet bacon sauce!). Of the 3, the Tipsy Chick is my new favorite! B O T T O M L I N E : Go! There's something for everyone here.
google avatar

Yelp
Torchy's tacos to me is better than any other chain Mexican food joint. Their tacos are reasonably priced and the Jamaican jerk taco has had me in its grasps since I first tasted it. The service is always on top of it all and they are quick to help with any questions. The establishments themselves though always feel a bit dirty. From trash on the floor to table tops not being cleaned, you can really feel that they are understaffed at time. However, the quality of the food always takes me to town.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm so glad Torchy's has caring managers like Amir!!! He went beyond and above for this hungry mama, and I'm so grateful for him. It makes me glad that Torchy's has compassionate kind people, and phenomenal leaders like Amir. Thank you Amir and thank you Torchy's for always being the best!!!! The food is also very good, if you haven't been. I've been loyal since Austin in 2010 and thanks to Amir and team it won't change. Visit and see what I mean, they will not disappoint. :)

Yelp
It took over an hour and 15 minutes for us to get our food. People who came in after us got their food before us. No one checked in with us or gave us any sort of update on our food. We finally had to ask and apparently they gave our food away to someone else. Probably because the food runners weren't even checking the numbers when bringing out food. Even after the mistake was corrected, it was a long wait for our food, and then the food was incorrect. We were told the manager would be coming to talk to us, but he never did. This was a horrid experience.
google avatar

Ruth C.

Yelp
Loved this Torchy's location. Cashier was super helpful. There was confusion on what was ordered so the food took awhile to come out. We asked for some chips to munch on in the meantime and wow, he brought chips and queso and pico de gallo and... The vibe here is definitely different than the other location in Highlands Ranch. It was a great change and quite noticeable for us.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
Torchy's is Torchy's, but this is a bad Torchy's, especially compared to the Greenwood Village location. It's near dive bar dirty, and incredibly slow. They do have a drive thru, but everything here moves at a snail's pace. Curbside orders aren't brought out to your car, and it takes literally 15-30 minutes to get a simple order. Since the location is convenient, people come here. But this is not a good example of what Torchy's can be, especially when the Greenwood Village and Littleton locations are great.

Zach L.

Yelp
The wait it terrible for a taco joint over 40 mins then served cold food. Do not recommend at all.
google avatar

Camille H.

Yelp
First time going to a Torchys. I mean I've heard about them for years now.. but for some reason never frequented any of their restaurants. Decided to tonight for a fundraiser for my kiddos school. We ordered 3 tacos (one kids size). Two Trailer Parks (trashy style) and a kids bean and cheese taco. While they all tasted okay I was pretty flabbergasted when first opening the bag. These have to be the smallest tacos I've ever seen, for the price we paid. $15 for 3 of the smallest tacos ever. And I wasn't even impressed with what I ate to say "wow that was so worth it!". Highly doubt we will return but ya never know.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Tuesday evening to place an order to go. The ordering experience was easy, and I was given my electronic pad that would alert them to where I was sitting. First disappointment is that they had your standard Coke products; admittedly it has been awhile since I've gone to a Torchy's, but I was hoping for the non-local sodas they had at the fountain. Times changed, so I lamented but moved on. There were plenty of people but not exceedingly busy for a Tuesday at 6:30pm. I wanted patiently, and then when a worker brought my order over, he led with, "Were you the one who order X items?" That didn't exactly instill confidence if he phrased like that. Sure enough, I got my food home (I live at Hampden & Pearl, so less than 10 minutes away) and it was lukewarm at best. Really disappointing experience. It still tasted alright, but it would've been much better hot. Guess it's a fortunate thing I don't frequent Torchy's much when I'm craving tacos. I'll still swing around for the Hillbilly Queso every so often.
google avatar

Pete G.

Yelp
My first time in this particular location. All the usual suspects are present though the natural fountain drinks have disappeared. Truthfully they may not ever have had them at this location but I was hoping for them over the standards. I'd take a Lone Star most days anyway, just a bit early on this day. The chips and queso can't be beat for a quick to the table option followed quickly by the Trailer Park Taco (trashy). Both were delicious, hot and loaded with flavor. Quick, hot, fast food doesn't get tastier.

Yelp
The taco I got was really good! BUT!!!!! It cost over $5 fricken dollars for just ONE tiny taco!?!? I actually thought it was going to be a burrito LOL BUT then came a SINGLE taco that MIGHT be bigger than a street taco, but BARELY. You need at least 3 of these to get full - plus a drink - and no sides!! and that's still $20!! WHAAAAAT!?!??? This place is for rich people!! I forgot to ask if they offer a military discount, but even if they did, it would PROBABLY still feel like they were sticking something HUGE up my bum! But at least the one little TINY taco tasted good - too bad I was still hungry afterwards. 2 tacos, 2 drinks, some chips, and an unfull belly cost $30. Plan accordingly!!!
google avatar

Marci M.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!!! Wow, literally everything we ordered was so tasty, fresh and full of flavor! The Baja shrimp taco was one of the most delicious tacos I've ever had and the pickled onions took it over the top! My daughter is a vegetarian and she loved the fried avocado tacos. Sometimes restaurants don't offer the best "no meat" options, so we really appreciate when something is out of the norm and has great flavor and some creativity. 10/10 would highly recommend Torchys!
google avatar

Kara R.

Yelp
A couple friends took me here when I was out visiting this last month for their wedding. I got the Baja Shrimp, the Trailer Park, and queso dip. The queso dip is PHENOMENAL - gotta love those green chiles! The trailer park taco chicken was good, but I didn't love the shredded cheese on it. It didn't melt at all unfortunately. The baja shrimp taco was where it's at! All 3 of us got that one. Highly recommend - they have multiple locations, great service and a good variety for everyone!
google avatar

Brittney C.

Yelp
Chips and queso is the answer! I've been missing out obviously. But still the tacos are overpriced- soooo MARGARITAS and QUESO it is Oh and maybe just 2 or 3 because they are definitely heavy handed lol

Sophie O.

Yelp
Amazing service EVERYTIME i come here! I come at least once a week in the drive through and came in today to eat in the dining area and once again the service was absolutely amazing.
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
Amazing and fantastic service!!! Huge shout out to Nick (the manger) in the drive thru today!!! We had a huge complicated order and we added more too it when we got there. Thank you so much for making everything to order and adding the sauces!! The food was delicious and hot! They put everything in a catering tray so it was easy to cary instead of several bags! Thank you so much Nick! I can't wait to go back!

Gabriella R.

Yelp
I love Torchy's - however, the last two times I have made an order I asked for specific sauces, and I don't know if it is out of laziness or lack of attention but I am given something else completely. It is hard to find a way to contact the store or give a complaint. There is not much going on there so I don't know why I pay 30 bucks to not receive the food I ordered. I am unhappy. When I order a "full" queso, they give me the same portion as "1/2". Not stoked, Torchy's. The Doordash driver Alan was amazing, however.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Torchy's is a classic. Sometimes you're just in the mood for a Torchy's Taco and nothing will hit the spot except a Torchy's Taco. My favorites are the Jerk Chicken and the Carnitas. Always have to order the Queso as well. I do usually wish the drinks were stronger but overall, the food is good!
google avatar

Suchot K.

Yelp
Heard a lot of hype about this place, but unfortunately for me I think it was overhyped. It was okay. Also price of taco seems reasonable for the quantity (based on tacos I got) I had the Trailer Park, Brushfire and Green Chile Pork. Trailer Park - Chicken was a little salty for my liking and the breading just falls off the meat. Didn't find anything too special with it. Though the chicken tender was quite the size. Brushfire - I loved diablo sauce and the roasted jalapeño. It has quite the kick but balances out nicely with the mango! Chicken was a little dry unfortunately. Green Chile Pork - My favorite of the 3. The tomatillo sauce is flavorful and is a great addition on the taco! Blends really well with the Chile!
google avatar

Tulshi P.

Yelp
I came here for their queso and it did not disappoint. I tried their fried avocado tacos and a mix of their hot sauces like poblano but was not a fan. There's also not much for vegetarians except the fried avocado tacos and queso and maybe a burrito. Service was quick, you order up front and the order is brought to your table. There's ample parking as well.
google avatar

Dylan K.

Yelp
This is a tough review to write since I love Torchy's and their tacos. The queso is top notch and honestly one of the best out there. However, our recent to go order was missing pico, and had very poor proportions of toppings added to the tacos. I know this is a fast-food taco spot but in the past i've been used to their top not quality and service as well. I will still order again!
google avatar

Kelsey B.

Yelp
This location is SLOW. SLOW SLOW SLOW. Food is awesome, but I'm getting to the point where it may not be worth the wait. This is the 3rd time something similar has happened to me at this location. I pulled up on a Sunday night around 7pm through the drive through. I was first in line, had to wait a while to order, then when I pulled up to the window to pay/get my food, I sat there for 35 minutes. The employee at the register disappeared so I couldn't ask her what was going on. I fully realize it is good to be patient with staffing shortages especially in restaurants right now, but I could clearly see multiple staff just hanging out in the kitchen and not working. The tacos I ordered were of course delicious, but they didn't give me any salsa with my order which is also one of the best parts. I'll try a couple of other locations before I fully give up. If you are wanting to eat at this location, plan ahead or dine in.
google avatar

Gaston D.

Yelp
I'm really sorry to have to do this. I am from Austin and always loved the food and was treated well at their locations. I stepped into Torchy's for literally 3 minutes. Keep in mind I'm slightly hard of hearing. I went to the bartender and she greeted me (couldn't understand the other half). I asked her if I could order food at the bar. She stared at me with a blank look. I repeated: Are we able to order food at the bar? Didnt know if she understood. She gave me the most condescending head nod and kept staring at me like I was a freak. I honestly was blown away. I bolted out of there and I cannot bring myself to ever go to Torchy's again. Her name is Shae (or Shay).
google avatar

Craig T.

Yelp
We don't have a torchy's in my hometown, so we always make a point to stop by whenever we drive through a town that has one. Don't come here if you're trying to be healthy, but for a cheat meal it's hard to beat. I typically get 3 tacos. My recent favorite is the tailgater.
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
I was okay. Not sure why the hype. $5 for one taco is pricy. No sides. Just the taco. The chicken fajita taco was not hot, the cheese was congealing. Not appealing. The server dumped the food. No words were exchanged. The queso was average. Again not sure about all the hype. 2 tacos, an order of queso, and two cups for water were $17 and change. Over priced.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
First time going today. I got the Mr Orange, green chili pork and the Baja shrimp taco on corn tortillas. The Green Chili Pork taco has no spice to it at all but very juicy. Mr Orange was pretty good but the taco I really enjoyed was the Baja shrimp taco which had a crispy yet juicy effect, yum! Also enjoyed the Hillbilly Queso & Chips. The kitchen way over salted the chips so I'd asked for lightly or no salt. Lady at front did not know how to explain the ordering process but was friendly. I had to figure out quickly it was À la cart tacos so the hungry line could move along. Also they had the staff running around looking for numbers on pagers when they should have some kind of table topper with a lager number display, something more helpful for staff to deliver food more promptly. Also major fly problem, bothersome baby flies all over the place with no sight of fly light inside restaurant. Hopes the manager reads this so we can come back and enjoy the tacos!
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
I've been to 4 of the Denver metro Torchy's now and this one did not disappoint. I love that no matter which one I go to they are going to have tasty tacos and delicious queso. I had to go with my tried and true, trailer park trashy (I mean why do you need lettuce when you can sub it for queso)?! Since it was just me I was able to get a half order of queso that hit the spot! This one is right by my work, which makes it very dangerous. Huge restaurant, super clean, and friendly staff; what more do you really need?
google avatar

Elizabeth Y.

Yelp
This location is great! We went recently and with everything going on, we felt the place was following all regulations and we felt very comfortable dining there! The food is always great and although the one thing I always didn't like about Torchy's was how busy it got. I don't know how busy this specific location gets as we went during the pandemic, however I had a wonderful experience!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
They only have a couple of vegetarian tacos now. I thought they used to have more? Oh well. The breakfast egg potato cheese (with added green chilies) is large and filling! Tomatillo salsa is sweet and savory. Margaritas are strong. All flavorful. Can't really go wrong with these basic items. They have every other table blocked off. Inside workers wear masks and have gloves on too. There are labeled spots for people to stand 6-feet apart too.
google avatar

Doug W.

Yelp
I've been eating torchys tacos since the first location in Austin, Tx, and I've been to this location twice. The first time the taco was simply not good, or what I was use to it tasting like. The second visit here (drive-thru) there was a long black hair in my taco. I had to go back to the restaurant, and go in for a new taco. The upside to this was that the girl who greeted me was extremely helpful and apologetic to get it corrected. The food came out hotter than the original, and tasted like those from Austin. I feel like they need to pay closer attention to hygiene in the kitchen and quality control. Customer service is good.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
Way over priced! $5+ per taco! That's wild. The tacos arnt very big. And definitely not worth $5+ dollars. Fuzzys is better.
google avatar

Tee T.

Yelp
Ordered from the drive thru.. spent more than I should have, considering its just tacos and got skimped on everything. I'll remember this experience the next time I think about eating here again.
