Torchy’s Tacos Is Aiming to Double Its Number of Locations By 2023 | Eater Austin

"An Austin-based taco chain that began when founder Mike Rypka bought a food trailer and a red Vespa, it emphasizes fresh ingredients—each restaurant makes tortillas in-house—and has built a reputation for strong per-store sales (about $4 million annually, well above typical peers). Leadership plans an aggressive expansion, aiming to grow from 71 locations to roughly 160 by the end of 2023 and to operate in around 15 states, with current footprints in Arkansas, Colorado (largely Denver), Oklahoma and imminent openings in Louisiana while remaining heavily concentrated in Texas (especially Austin, Dallas and Houston). Investors have shown interest, and the brand’s strategy favors expanding outward from its Texas hub into nearby states and into small- and mid-sized cities (e.g., Lake Charles) rather than only chasing major coastal markets; solid performance near the Mexican border also makes New Mexico and Arizona plausible targets." - Tim Forster

The young lady working was great. Very polite and helpful. The establishment is cool and was kept very clean. Very good to walk into for the first time. I was inclined to leave this about my food. It was quick upon ordering relieving the food I should add as well. I got 3 tacos. 1, democrat and this was the best tasting of the three I ordered. It was just not good and bland. 2nd taco was the trailer patk. I got through 2 bites and put it down. Really not good. Last taco is the Baja shrimp and I got grilled shrimp. They tasted like microwaved shrimp partially cooked. This taco was the worst of the three. I got chips and salsa and those were the best part of a very bad meal . Again the establishment and service was and is fantastic. The tacos unfortunately were incredibly bad. Taste, ingredients, presentation was all just not great. I had high hopes and this was my first visit. This will also be my last visit. I wish this place the best and they are going to need it in the kitchen. I tried everything hoping it would get better. I couldn't even finish a single taco.

I got to try a new taco from their special secret menu and it was excellent. I bout hit off my finger eating it. Service was impeccable! Overall perfect experience. Zaleigh was top tier, friendly, suggestive about great menu items which is why I dared try something different. Home run!!! Thanks Zaleigh and the team. Everyone was great.

10/10 for a first time experience! I ordered a trailer taco and a grande burrito and that shit was fire. Definitely would recommend 100 times over Chipotle or any other restaurant for that matter. Thank you Zaleigh! (Friendly cashier who helped me order the food)

The food is amazing, my favorite is the trailer trash tacos, if you order them get them “trashy” and they will put guacamole sauce on them😋. The atmosphere and the energy coming from the staff and the decor says it all. Every time I come here I see the same people being the counter and they are still here because they love their jobs and love to give great service. Employees like Zaleigh and the restaurant of the staff is what makes torches tacos one of the best Mexican restaurants in Lake Charles.

1st meal - Tipsy Chick tacos are DELICIOUS!!!! Best tacos I have eaten in a long time. Street corn is just like in Mexico, very good. 2nd trip - grilled shrimp salad bowl was good except for the shrimp. They were so salty they were were hard to eat, ugh! Big cookie was delicious.
