"This has been in operation since starting life as a food stall in the postwar years. An old photo on the first floor shows the original sign from those early days. The ‘Tori’ in Torishige reflects an earlier usage, when yakitori referred to pork as well as chicken skewers; ‘shige’ is in honour of the Prime Minister of that time, Shigeru Yoshida. In place of chopsticks, two bamboo skewers are used; meat-stuffed bell peppers are a tradition since the first generation. Beef was added by the second-generation chef; the use of rare cuts is an innovation by the current chef. In era after era, Torishige continues its success story." - Michelin Inspector

Best meal I've had so far in Tokyo. They don't have an English menu, but the staff went out of their way to explain each item to us. The absolute highlight was the sirloin dish, which by far is the best steak I've ever had, like really. Cannot express how much we enjoyed our meal.

This is a toriyaki and steak restaurant with 100 years old history and is a clear recommendation in the Michelin guide ❣️❣️❣️ I got the honor to be invited for dinner from a colleague and friend. The food is absolutely marvelous, juicy on point! Each dish is a small masterpiece observed by the chef himself!!! An absolute clear recommendation.

If you don't speak Japanese and would like to go to Torishige, I suggest you read the below...as this is not a place for foreigners. - I waited another 15-20 minutes despite having made a reservation 3 months out - We were put to the side of the counter, immediately next to where the waitresses prepare food and drinks...had people pouring drinks and walking behind us the whole night - They don't speak English here, and they do not proactively to get your order, you have to ask them to come yourself - Service was extremely slow. We had a chef's course with set us back 5500yen for 5 skewers and 1 small piece of steak......over 2 hours. But to be fair, their food was fine. - No chicken, only beef and pork - Japanese couple next to us get served quickly for the same order - Cash only.

I’m in a hotel that’s almost next-door. I read the reviews on google, not that stellar but pretty inconsistent. I had decided not to bother with it, sounded like the place was a little snobby and I don’t like that. But I was a little hungry tonight and I googled that they were less busy than usual like a lot less busy. So I walked over there and They got me in pretty quick like within a couple minutes. They sent me upstairs at like a bar area where you can eat by yourself other singles were eating there so I felt pretty good about being solo. Being a solo diner is not always easy when you want to do fine dining. But what happened after that was pretty spectacular, the people were extremely niceand friendly. The service is fantastic. You see the chefs working and they were very friendly and kind and the food was extraordinary. I understand that maybe I got lucky because they weren’t that busy, but I also understand that if I came there on a busy night, I wouldn’t expect to be treated like royalty. But they’re pretty nice people with fantastic food. they’re very professional and they do a great job at what they do. The beef was incredible. The amuse bouche was a humble little dish of cucumber and turnip, but it was the best turnip I’ve ever tasted in my life. I think I could say the same for the beef. I have a very high regard for this restaurant. I had the selected Japanese black sirloin steak. I would love to go back many many times.

Made reservations thru hotel concierge as reservations are only accepted via local phone call. Went with the special course and the dishes(grilled skewers + grilled entree + rice set meal) are simple yet delicious. Being able to communicate in basic Japanese definitely helps as the staffs are all monolingual. Beware this is a very popular joint among Japanese salary men as it is fairly close to the business district of Shinjuku, so it can felt crowded at dinner time.

Google
A pretty great overall experience. The variety of different organ’s items in the course menu was great, with many different tastes, ranging from steak to liver to tongue. Everything was cooked wonderfully and the tastes were all delicious. Can be a bit pricey but I think worth it. An excellent collection of umeshu as well. Worth a try at least once.

Google
A famous izakaya in the heart of Shinjuku with a decades long history. The focus here is on yakiton: Grilled skewers of pork meat and organs. You can either order different menus or go with a single item as well. We started with a selection of yakiton, which contained their signature pork liver skewer among others. On top, we ordered some grilled wagyu and vegetable dishes. Drink wise, sake, and beer are the way to go. Recommended!

Google
Very accommodating, meat heavy ( not for vegetarians/vegans). Although they did not have an English menu, a member of staff went through the menu with us with recommendations. They went out of their way to accommodate that one of us did not eat pork, and one did not eat beef.

Yelp

Yelp
Food was great, service was good too. Just need to be mindful with the waiting if no reservation and not really English friendly. Cash only as well.

Yelp
One of my friends called them to make a reservation. She had to call a couple of times till they take it. Even though we had a reservation for three, we had to sit by the counter instead of a table. Unfortunately they were not comfortable seats we had on the edge of the counter. The servers were busy and running right behind us. Their foods were good. It took a long time to be served n made us full after the five different kinds of chickens. They asked us if we can eat intestines. My friend didn't like to try, so they brought her chicken skin.

Yelp
LOVED this place. How did we find it? Tabelog score and consecutive bronze awards. Ofcourse, unless a resto doesn't take reservations I'd be silly to imagine I'd walk into a place like this. Food was delicious and accommodating of preferences. This place is anything but quiet, a rowdy izakaya with great service on two floors. The chef on the 2nd floor walked us out. Only negative is that, like many places, it is cash only.

Yelp
I love food, and I'm always willing to be adventurous and eat things that are different. I got the Omakase set like everyone recommended, and I didn't care for it. That's not to say that the skewers were all bad; some were better than others, but it really is way overpriced. I don't care how great the quality of an intestine is. This meal was too expensive. I will say that the intestines were good and tasted like bacon. The ground meat in the bell pepper was good, but I think it's because the pepper cuts through the taste of the meat. I didn't even finish the meatball one because I didn't like it. The liver one was surprisingly good, but i had to force myself to finish it because I can only have so much of that texture. My male friend really didn't like the meal, which is saying a lot because he eats anything. I should've just gone to Piss Alley and ordered the actual skewers I wanted. Also, the wait was 45 minutes without reservation.

Yelp
You'll love this spot if you love nose to tail dining. Torishige's Shinjuku outpost serves only cow and pig meat, from the innards to the top cuts. I loved almost everything I ate here, save for spring onions they're so liberal with in almost every bowl. If you can't read Japanese, just opt for the omakase which costs 5,000 yen. There are cheaper options, which also mean you get less. The 5,000 yen set was totally worth it. We got: 1) Wagyu beef with uni and caviar (OMG) 2) Grilled large intestines 3) Pig's heart 4) Beef tongue (too chewy for my liking) 5) Semi cooked Pig's liver 6) mystery beef parts with spring onions and wild yam 7) Cartilage of some sort 8) Meatballs stuffed in peppers 9) More mystery meat 10) Rice in Beef/Pork broth (Great for winter!) Went down really well with their sake selection. Wonderful earnest staff, just lots of google translate needed. The wait is long. Our table was at 9pm, we were seated at 9.40pm and left just past midnight. It took about an hour before our food arrived too. Regardless, I can't wait for my next dinner there!

Yelp
Great food but took forever. Also, menu only in Japanese, so need to trust the server and the chef.

Yelp
Would not recommend this place at all! Food took forever! A total waste of my time! Overrated. Don't come here if you have better use of your time!

Yelp
Rather disappointed. It's a very popular place and hard to get a table without reservation. However much of that is because of the location. The biggest problem is their dishes don't taste that good. A tourist trap.

Yelp
We had our last dinner in Tokyo here. I found out about the place on a blog (Eataku). They serve beef and pork yakitori but upscale (really good quality meat). We knew going in that they didn't have an English menu but I knew they had some sets to choose from. One of the chefs came over and helped us choose. I'm not entirely sure we understood each other as his English was limited (but way better than our Japanese!) but we ended up with good food on our plates so it all worked out. I believe we ordered the 2500 yen skewer set, the 2500 yen beef/rice bowl and a 5000 yen set. We sat at the counter and one of the other chefs would poke his head out from behind the glass partition (for the smoke) to tell us what we were eating as best he could. That was really nice of him. The meat was excellent. One of the dishes had uni and cavier on top of the grilled beef. It was my first time for both and I loved it. We also shared a half size bottle of wine plus a beer and chuhai each. It was around $160 for dinner and drinks (our most expensive meal of the trip). I was full but I think my husband could have eaten a bit more (he's a pretty big eater though). The restaurant is very local. We seemed to be the only non-Japanese there. And it was packed! There were people constantly coming in for tables. A very popular place. We enjoyed it and I'm glad we splurged.
