This place is a moderate sized bar/restaurant that boasts 40 taps of beer, mixed drinks and an impressive menu. Street parking is available nearby for no charge and the location is easily found off of the 65th St exit.
Inside the restaurant, there are tables for dining as well as a clearly designated bar. Bartender has a friendly attitude, demonstrating expertise in drink craftsman and beer selection. Owner was present on the day of visit and appears positively involved with the establishment and its guests.
A new menu was recently released and it features special fare such as beer BBQ shortribs, standards like macaroni, a fresh seasonal pasta dish and several homemade desserts. On this visit, I had the opportunity to talk with Chef Joey and learn a bit about his culinary creations and what inspired him. He was very passionate about his work and seemed to always be looking for new ideas for the menu. It was evident that all of the ingredients are fresh, local and homemade with plenty of care.
The beer BBQ ribs were suggested along with some "ginger-cornbread" and bourbon glazed carrots. The ribs came out perfectly, falling off the bone. Some may say that there are some fatty parts to the meat, but pork short ribs generally have a higher fat content and these ones were cooked to perfection so it wasn't noticeable. The ginger-cornbread was full of flavour and definitely a suggested menu item. Desserts available include everything from a cast-iron fruit cobbler to beer infused ice-cream.
Their brunch special runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30-2:30 and features local favorites such as homemade beerbread french toast, eggs benedict and other commonly found breakfast entrées.
The bathrooms are clean and the restaurant is generally well kept. This impressive corner spot is a place I recommend for anyone seeking to try new beers as well as the well-palated food critic. Toronado will not disappoint.
