Outstandingly Affordable Key Hotels in Spain

"In the Teruel region of Matarraña, almost on the edge of the Puertos de Beceite Natural Park, the Torre del Marqués is a beautifully restored 18th-century tower that stands between vineyards and olive groves. In this privileged place, which some call Aragonese Tuscany, the splendor of the Mediterranean is on full display. Lucky guests enjoy a unique landscape dotted with deer, hare, boar, and fox. The magnificent 18th century building hosts too an incredible spa, a sanctuary dedicated to relaxation and well-being with a wide variety of facilities (including hot springs, Turkish bath, and sauna). Some Three Key hotels costs thousands of dollars per night. At this one, you'll often find rooms under $300." - The MICHELIN Guide

"Between Barcelona and Valencia, set back on the inland side of a small mountain range, is the Aragonese region of Matarraña, home to the beautifully restored 18th-century tower that is the Torre del Marques. Today, after a thorough renovation, it’s an 18-room luxury boutique hotel that offers a farmhouse-style escape, with views of olive groves and vineyards, as well as an environmentally friendly approach and a zero-kilometer cooking philosophy. The rooms are a perfect marriage of weathered stone walls and contemporary interior design, with high-end comforts including ultra-modern bathrooms; the look is somewhat minimalist, in a palette of warm neutrals, and the textures are where the action is, from the sisal rugs to the bare timbers and knotty pine paneling." - The MICHELIN Guide

My friends and I attended Torre del Marqués Hotel Spa & Winery for a wine, yoga and meditation 5-day retreat with Soulful Vines at the end of May. The hotel was beautiful, peaceful, and the perfect spot for our retreat. The staff was amazing and took care of our every need. The food....Oh my, the food - so special and absolutely delicious. It was prepared and presented with so much love for the craft as well as the people who were served. I would definitely go back!!

Went over the weekend. Wonderful stay, did some horse riding and ate at the restaurant (You should try the lamb, worth it!). Service is really wonderful - the hotel is small so employees are very personable, remembered our names and made us feel welcome. 100% recommend for a getaway

The hotel is truly beautiful — stunning grounds, a stylish restaurant, and a breathtaking view. The room was lovely, clean, and cozy. The staff were friendly, but clearly insufficient — and it shows. Service in the restaurant was especially disappointing. We arrived around 3:30 PM and couldn’t order any proper hot meals because after 3:00 PM they only offer a limited menu. We ended up eating sandwiches, which took over an hour to arrive. Meanwhile, we saw other guests being served hot meals after 4:30 PM, including meat dishes — it’s hard to believe all those orders were placed before 3:00 PM. We weren’t even allowed to sit inside the restaurant and had to stay outside, feeling like we were being punished. After an hour of waiting, a waitress came over to ask again what we had ordered — the service was extremely poor. The spa experience was also disappointing: we paid €120 for three people (50 minutes), and the place hadn’t even been cleaned after the previous guests — dirty dishes were still there. Communication with the hotel was chaotic. We tried to book a horse-riding experience and were told four different things over several weeks: that children could join, then they couldn’t, then they could again, and so on. Completely inconsistent and frustrating. Even small things were poorly handled. Despite the high room rate, only one bottle of water was provided — everything else was for an additional charge. At check-in, I was firmly offered a semi-sweet wine as a welcome drink, even though I said I don’t drink that — no alternative was offered. In general, it’s a very beautiful place, but the level of service — especially in the restaurant and activity coordination — does not live up to expectations. There is a serious lack of flexibility, customer care, and basic organization.

My wife and I had a fantastic getaway here, it was our first trip with our newborn, and the experience couldn’t have been better. The staff, especially Tonya, Pamela, and Jose, were wonderful, and the spa, food/wine, and rooms all exceeded our expectations. If you're visiting Valencia or exploring the Matarraña / Spanish Tuscany region, this is the perfect place to unwind. Highly recommend!

Let me start by saying that this is a beautiful hotel and does have some wonderful amenities and a great restaurant. The hotel is beautifully done with excellent landscaping and breathtaking views of the area. The food is also very good and they have a great chef. We also really enjoyed the pool.||With that being said, this hotel is in no way a 5 start hotel. If it wants to taut that it is one, thenI I have to judge/review accordingly.||Things that were lacking: |1. A sense of organization. Our first night at dinner, we waited 15 minutes for someone to seat us and another 25 minutes before we even received water or acknowledgment. They also “misplaced” our car keys. They’d been accidentally given to another hotel guest. Luckily they figured it out and resolved the issue. I will give them credit, they did go out of their way to ensure we were comfortable while we waited for the keys but this shouldn’t have happened.|2. Air conditioning. The temperature outside ranged from the low 70s F to mid 80s during the day. The A/C units struggled to keep the inside hotel room temperature and main dining room at or below 73F. I mentioned this to the front desk twice. They looked at it a assured the changed the settings and it would improve. Never happened.|3. Not the same experience for all. I saw multiple guests get different treatment. Minus a quick synopsis about the hotel, we were not shown around, nor did they offer any information about the spa or winery. I guess it pays to walk around with a selfie stick. |4. The smell and the bugs. I do understand this use the be and partially still is an equestrian location. It is wonderful the see the beautiful horses running around; however, it seems the stalls are either too close or downwind of the hotel and can be smelt. In addition to the smell, the flies are awful and limited our time outside. Not as big of a deal for me but less of a romantic setting for my wife. |5. Lack of service for a boutique 5 start hotel. I do think they were possibly short staffed. The bartenders had no idea about drinks and had to review a book to mix them. We had some help with our bags on the way in but nothing on the way out. No turn down service. Again one night, the dinner service was awful. I will say it was much better the second night. Really no one at the pool for service. |6. Lastly and minor things. Coffee cups on rooms not cleaned well and bath/shower combo were odd and harder to get in and out of. ||Overall, I’d say this is an okay possible 4 star hotel. Is it a beautiful place to stay, with nice rooms, and a pleasant staff. The restaurant is really nice and I had some great dishes. Would I stay here again, probably not. Is it worth staying if you’re passing through, maybe not.

Our stay was truly wonderful, and the room we were offered was easily one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the location couldn’t be more perfect—it’s a real standout feature. The only area that could use some improvement is the dining experience. While the food wasn’t bad, it didn’t quite meet the expectations set by the price point. To help enhance this aspect, I’d like to offer some feedback: 1. A more personal touch from the servers would go a long way. Building a connection with guests, communicating warmly, and offering helpful, attentive service can truly elevate the dining experience. Unfortunately, it sometimes felt like the staff were in a rush to move us along, which might reflect a need for additional training or education rather than any individual fault. 2- also the menu items including num of meals, paired wines and overall experience could be much better. That said, everything else about our stay was exceptional, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place. Thank you for a memorable visit!

We stayed at this hotel recently, and while the location is beautiful and the front desk staff were friendly, the experience was underwhelming. Since it was off-season, the hotel felt poorly maintained. The water feature was dirty and looked sad, the outdoor furniture lacked cushions, and many of the lights were off, giving the place a gloomy vibe. The biggest letdown, however, was the restaurant. The food was awful—cold, poorly presented, and tasted like leftovers. The wait staff was unprofessional, and the wine pairing was a joke. It honestly didn’t feel like there was even a chef. Overall, the hotel didn’t feel like a luxury hospitality experience. It’s more like a business that’s lost its way. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Idyllic setting with far reaching views, lovely architecture and room design. Excellent food with fresh local ingredients, own wine from the estate. All the staff were friendly and accommodating.||It’s quite a drive from Valencia, but once up in the mountains the scenery is lovely. There is a nice pool and spa, but the outdoor pool was closed when we visited in late October.
