Chicken tacos were dry, no flavor, no sauce. The tortilla was decent. The drinks were extremely sweet and barely any alcohol. The service was lacking. The only good thing was the French fries and the watermelon juice. To get to the bathroom you have to walk downstairs and it smells god awful down there. I was very turned off. Won’t be returning.

Great vibes, lively place. The tables are small though and is a tight space. Was difficult to manage all the food and drinks for 4 people in the spot. The food was good. Got the platter, was good for 4. Got shrimp and chicken tacos. Both were great. The fries and guac was good too. Also got the chicken enchiladas, great taste and quantity again for the price. It is a comparatively cheap place with good food. The only complaint is the plates and bowls are recyclable but they still serve plastic spoons and forks. Not sure why the waste.

Tortaria is a nice Mexican establishment in University Place. We stopped by for brunch on a Saturday and had a great time. The menu has a lot of interesting options, and we tried the eggplant bowl, the brunch burrito (as a bowl) and the chipotle lime veggie bowl, along with ginger tea and lemonade. Everything was great - the eggplant bowl was novel and tasty, the brunch burrito was delicious, and the chipotle lime veggie bowl was quite good as well. The ginger tea was well brewed (with a sharp sour tang) and the lemonade was refreshing and quite sweet. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Tortartia. The dishes are tasty and reasonably priced (compared to NYC standards). Worth a visit!

They made my day! I wanted to go to some other place, but unfortunately, that was close, and I decided to give this place a try. To my surprise, I got the best tacos. Don't hesitate to ask for extra sauces, and if you are a spice lover like me, ask for the spicy sauce too. The service was brilliant, and they will tell you about the offers if there were any, and it is always beneficial to go for them. This place definitely made me love tacos, and I am glad I visited this place ❤️

The service was absolutely amazing and quick. I had to wait on my party to arrive and they sat me solo without any issue. Emmanuel was attentive and made sure everything was good! I got the fajitas for brunch with the blood orange margarita and both were filling and delicious. Super budget friendly, staff friendly, food allergy friendly — absolutely would recommend !

Late night snacks are amazing here! The guacamole and chips were small but tasty. The platanos with beans also a great late night fix. At 11pm on a Saturday night this place was busy. Most people were drunk so it got a little loud. The decor is fun and staff is very nice. I docked one star due to my margarita being very very sweet. I'm more of a tart margarita gal. Came back to try their happy hour. They only had frozen or flavored margaritas for $7.50 instead of $9.00. I got the raspberry with real frozen raspberries in it. Very tasty. My friend got a regular and asked for it spicy which they did in a very cute fashion.

My friend and I went for Saturday brunch. I arrived just in time to be seated at a table for two before a line formed. Fish tacos special was just ok. The grilled fish was more more crispy than grilled. If not for the two corn kernels the jicama corn relish wasn’t discernible and the lettuce is unnecessary. I actually reread the menu description after I saw them. My friend said the chicken tacos were good, and from a previous visit I remember liking them also. I had a regular margarita and my friend a strawberry. Drinks were good. Staff was friendly but they didn’t check in since they were busy and trying to turn over the tables quickly. The disposable picnic cups, trays, utensils etc is supposedly due to Covid but other restaurants mange. At least the drinks are in actual glasses. I would go back but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

This place has a fun and aesthetic interior. There was also an outdoor dining space and we sat in the inside by an open window. The staff was nice and friendly. There were a lot of food options to choose from. I ordered a chicken dish that came with delicious fries and salsa as a dip. Definitely recommend checking out with friends.

Some of the worse empanadas I've ever had - Brings to mind that old commercial Where's the beef ? Even the beans were mediocre Small portions and what's with the cardboard dishes and plastic utensils Still in Covid mode Most likely a student hangout-anything tastes good after a lot of drinks Definitely one place to skip

Tortaria is somewhat of an institution and it does a decent job of serving up Mexican food and with bar drinks. It's very casual, it's very quick and appears to have a large NYU following. My dish had a decent amount of chicken and the flavors meshed well together. Great spot to hang with friends and drink a margarita or three. It is festive without too over the top.

My husband and I were walking around and came across this on the corner and menu looked tasty! So glad we stopped in the service was quick and we got seated right away. The atmosphere was vibey and the food was good! Drinks were also good. Really loved how affordable this place was being in the city

Came here for some post-work happy hour margs w/ coworkers and it is the perfect spot for that. Lowkey atmosphere, a little cramped but not too bad compared to other bars in the area. The photo I took does NOT do this justice but I might just have to say that these could be the best tacos I've ever had. Cauliflower tacos for all my veggie friends out there - an absolute must. Chips and guac came with absolutely ample chips in a way I haven't seen a restaurant do in quite some time. Food came out super fast but in a way that didn't make us feel rushed. Will 1000% be back.

Spicy Watermelon Margarita Pitcher 9.79/10- this was honestly phenomenal. It was so refreshing and actually made a good amount of cocktails (I want to say ~12). They gave us tajin rimmed glasses which was so cute and the perfect touch to a spicy marg Guac and chips 9.66/10- this guac was actually so good. It was so fresh and had a citrusy/zesty taste to it. We also got the large guac! They have a regular size too and we honestly thought the large guac wouldn't be enough because our server gave us an approximate size difference, but it was more than enough. The tortilla chips were also pretty good, they were fresh. They gave us a bunch of salsas too and I think queso? All the salsas and queso? were really good This was a really chill place, they have a bunch of different flavor options for margarita pitchers which is great. Apparently the foods also really good but our main focus was pitchers and guac lol. They also have outdoor seating which is great during summer time.

Great space and decor, but food was mediocre. Portions are small, service is so-so. But it seems to be popular! Food came out on disposable plates and utensils - cups too. Thought this was just for outdoor but indoor diners also had disposables. Food is bland, didn't feel satisfied.

Price is very affordable at this place and the food is yummy! But the service dining is ok - they forgot my drink that I ordered and at the end of our meal, the waitress told us we paid for the wrong bill and "voided" the bill so then we paid for our bill. My friends and I found out after a few days we were charged for both bills. If you'd like to eat here, I recommend ordering takeout than dining in.

Takeout for lunch. I got crispy eggplant bowl with chicken ($15). It's a big portion. The sauce is so good! The only thing is I wish there was more rice. Wayyyyy too much spinach. Inside looks nice. Indoor and outdoor tables.

Every single time I've walked through this restaurant, there is always a crowd. This day was different because my group and I decided to have an early 5pm dinner and seating was available. Curiosity always peaked my interest as to what makes this place special. Let's see what makes you stand out Tortaria. Decor wise, loved the traditional feel, bright colors theme, the lights setup, even the bar area. Food wise was the tiebreaker for me. Ordered the Telera Pollo Asada torta - sandwich version of a pollo asada with Parisi's bakery bread (from the infamous Italian cold cuts bakery in Soho). Savory flavors, crispy greens, and the right vinaigrette flavored dressing. The portion and price for this was good for the grab. A nice break from the usual quesadillas and burritos. Cocktail wise I ordered the pinagarita (pineapple coconut margarita). Drink was quite small for a standard margarita but it was good. My only difficulty with this drink was the paper straw and it was hard to chug it down as it always got stuck, especially if you need to wash down the food spice. Dessert was good if you choose the churros. Crispy, sugary coated goodness on the outside. Soft, moist and piping hot in a good way on the inside with a chocolate sauce on the side to dip. One Mexican restaurant marked off in NYC. A fun, cost efficient, and delicious pitstop for the east side lower Manhattan. Next visit selection will have to be the tacos.

Hated it. The food was not good, the service was also not good. The man tried to give me added on food I didn't ask for then told me it was "complementary" and then tried to charge me for it. It's cute inside but really just a waste of money. The quality of my food was not good. The best thing on my table was the guacamole that I didn't ask for so I was low key happy to have gotten that. And a bottle of coke cost $6 ya'll what is this ridiculousness. With no refills! Someone mentioned in a previous comment that you are served with plastic cups and disposable fry boats, for $12 for 2 tacos i at least deserve a real plate. I wish I had wifi to read reviews before I wasted my time and sacrificed my taste buds.

20 min wait for our group of 6 on a Friday night, we didnt keep track of the time but it didnt feel like 20 mins when we got seated. We all ordered off a menu with specials. Tamales for $5!! Its about the size of a phone. Comes with short ribs or pulled pork. So good that some of my friends got two! Filling enough as a snack or light meal. I got the pulled pork and really enjoyed it! The texture of the tamale was great, smooth and soft. Very comforting food. 10/10 would order again. We already want to come back here for these tamales. We also ordered a margarita pitcher which seemed to have cheap liquor. Not surprising considering it was $60 for the pitcher. I think we were able to pour at least 8 small glasses. It gets the job done at this price. One of my friends started feeling a headache while we were there. I could also feel it a little too after only having one glass. Would probably not order again. Cute space! I loved the flowers hanging from the ceiling and the wall of flowers behind the bar. Pros: amazing $5 tamales!!! Cute decor. It was loud but not so much that we couldnt hear each other at a normal volume. Cons: margaritas that gave us headaches. There are two bathrooms downstairs. One of them smelled absolutely disgusting- I wanted to gag when I first got in there. The other bathroom was fine though. The stairwell getting downstairs also smells but it wasn't as bad as the one bathroom. Overall more like 3.7/5. Deducted for the cons above. Rounded up to 4 stars.

Came here with my boyfriend for the first time. It was pretty good, cool location and the decorations where pretty as well. The food was descent. I didn't get any drinks cuz I'm pregnant but it looked like their bar would of been really good. I felt a little uncomfortable that the waitress asked me how far along I was and then she proceeded to tell me she had a 19 year old. I didn't ask her and I wasn't in a talkative mood. The food came in a festival paper plate which was weird n messy considering I had to cut my food. The prices where a little ridiculous for serving me in paper plate lol and they charged us $12 for extra rice the bathroom was also very dirty. It's a place u stop get a drink and on to the next stop. Idk maybe I'll stop by again once I give birth maybe they'll have regular plates and a cleaner bathroom .

This place is usually my go to stop for a quick eat and stop! I usually get their Chipotle Mayo Veggie Bowl with Chicken and some corn and guac with chips! all the ingredients are fresh especially the bowl which I love, don't forget to use the sauces that they provided because they are absolutely delicious with the bowl! Would recommend if you're looking for something to go or quick!

Good people watching if you sit outside. It was busy so service was slow but very friendly. Okay guac, really not good tacos. My boyfriend said his margarita was strong, so if that's all you care about, you're good to go.

Casual Mexican spot near NYU. Came around 7:30pm on a weeknight and there was plenty of seating available. The best tables are the ones near the window. Although it is supposedly known for its tortas, we ordered mostly tacos. Both the chicken and the al pastor were pretty good, although a bit dry for my taste. The portions are also very small considering the price is not cheap. However, they do have daily drink specials like $10 margarita Mondays which are a better deal than their food. Service was OK but not particularly attentive, we had to ask several times for water and also the check.

The service is excellent. The atmosphere is nice. We sat outside. The food is good. Not gourmet, but good. The guacamole is really good. The tequila selection is awesome. Add it all up 5 stars.

Steak Arrachera Torta - 9/10 This is the best torta I have had, which might not be saying much because it's my second torta I've ever had but it was still really good. The steak was extremely flavorful and the piloncillo tomatoes were jammy and added a nice tang. Plus you could never go wrong with some crispy onion, avocado and chipotle mayo. Crunchy Pollo Asado Taquito - 7/10 These were called taquitos but when our server came out she called them tacos, also they're not rolled or fried so I was kind of confused. They were ok, the chicken was not dry which was nice but it wasn't super flavorful and definitely got outshined by the torta. Chips & Guacamole - 6/10 I'm always craving chips and guac but the guacamole was a little disappointing. It was quite mild in flavor and lacking in salt. It comes with three other sauces, a red and green sauce and a bbq mayo. The bbq mayo was surprisingly good. We got the deal which was 24.30 for 1 torta, 1 order of taquito, which comes with two pieces, and a beer. Since we got steak arrachera it was an additional 2.80. The price wasn't bad and I'll definitely be back when I'm craving some more tortas!

Location is ya know average just like every other location in nyc haha. The menu is pretty appealing but have to say the food was pretty average at best. Got a chicken sandwich and it was rather dry. Also the queso is surely a no go. It was very chunky and grainy and honestly didn't even taste like queso. Food was bland. Vibes are fine. A little tight squeeze in some areas and they have a bar. But again nothing to special here.

Came here for brunch and it was such a good deal! 2 drinks which were REALLY strong and a dish for 20 bucks. Can't really beat that price in NYC anymore. Music is a bit loud but I loved their decor. It had a nice Mexican diner vibe

People were friendly and kind. They have an impressive list of mezcal-based drinks. I liked their tangerine cocktail. My wife's margarita was solid. Food came out quickly, but was a bit hit-or-miss (mostly misses). The chips and guacamole tasted good but the size of the guacamole was small, disappointingly so. Nice spice level though. Not overwhelming, just enough to taste. For mains, I got a short rib torta with a side of spicy fries and my wife got a burrito. The torta was really oily. I couldn't really hold it without having the oil drip on my fingers. So I opted not to eat the bun and just ate the inside with a fork. The meat was salty (maybe with the bread it wouldn't have been as noticeable). The fries weren't spicy at all. Maybe a little dusting of paprika but not much flavor. My wife had no real complaints about the burrito but she said it was fine. Tables were pretty tightly packed for a small room. Not the most comfortable. Anyway, this place is fine for a bite and the drinks were good. But not a destination spot by any means.

If you are looking for Mexican food around Union Square, then try this restaurant. Love the atmosphere inside, moderate noise level, considering it was full on a Friday night. I love the homey, casual vibe of the place. I wish i was able to take pictures of the food, but was super hingry that the moment it was served to us, i was eating it like crazy! I really recommend the spicy chicken tortilla sopa, it's an amazing combination of the cilantro , rice and chicken in a soup. We paired it with the crispy pollo tacos and the chicken milanesa torta, it was very filling. For desserts, we got the churros with chocolate sauce and strawberries.

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Check out their lunch specials during the week Service is great .. all were attentive. I love the ambiance too, festive and feels authentic.

My experience at this restaurant took a turn for the worst as soon as I walked up to the hostess when my group arrived...we told her we had a reservation and told her the name it was under. She very visibly rolled her eyes and walked away without saying anything. When she came back to us, she very abruptly just said "Vax cards." I understand Friday nights can be busy, but this attitude was unwarranted. We ordered the guacamole, carne asada taquitos and 2 margs (frozen and Chile passion). The guac was made with the right amount of heat but the rest of the items were very underwhelming. The tortillas were tasteless and not very fresh. The margs were insanely sweet. And although we asked for water when we placed our order, we did not receive any until 2 minutes before receiving the check...no exaggeration. There are many other better Mexican restaurants in the area to visit!

this is more like an unsanitary cafeteria rather than a restaurant. they serve you disposable plates and plastic ware. on the way down the stairs to the bathroom and passed the kitchen there is an off putting smell that makes you feel like the whole place is sticky and unclean. the Baja fish tacos were the worst I have tried and I've tried many at various places. the guacamole was premade with a film on top from sitting around and when you request spicy they just throw chopped jalapeños on top without mixing it in. will not try again

We came in around 5:30pm and there were only two tables seated inside. We asked for a table and were sat at the large communal table in the middle of the restaurant. Some staff members were chatting right in front of where we were seated and one guys backpack kept hitting my partners back which I thought was strange and rude. After the meeting adjourned, the very nice server (same guy who seated us), came over and took our order. We were talked into two tortas, guac (large - ha!) and a marg. Marg was served in what I think is a 10oz glass. Water was in plastic cups. Marg had no flavor - just sweet and a little watered down tasting. About 30 seconds later, our large guac came out. It was adequate, but nothing done tableside, and it was served in a small paper bowl. I'd say it was about 8oz. Kinda like a large size guac sized from Chipotle. We were seated next to the horchata station. This is where every server and staff member walks from the kitchen and bathroom. I had ice refilled right next to me. Two large garbage cans emptied and carried right by me while eating my guac. An employee brushed up on me during one pass. It was really uncomfortable and very strange that we were even sitting there when the entire place was basically empty? What was the thought process of seating a two top at a communal table right next to a service area when the place is empty? After a couple mins, the toratas arrived. They were mediocre and sloppy. We were given plastic wrapped silverware and a stack of napkins. It's like a to-go order for dine-in kind of place. Plastic cups for water, plastic silverware, salt and pepper packets. I've had tortas before, and these are far from authentic. I couldn't wait to leave. We had been here for 16 mins and the meal was over. $70.02 with tip for one 10oz marg, a tiny guac and two small sandwiches. Never again.

very very hit or miss for me! the service is great and there was no no problem there for me, and thats not an area of strife. i also really enjoy how the place looks and the inside is nicely decorated while the outside has tables set on a not to busy street corner. however the food was not great the last time i went. the first time i went, in february, i wholly enjoyed it. very delicious and flavorful. the last time i went, the food felt mediocre, and bland. i wouldn't recommend this place with super high marks to anyone, however if you're looking for a nice sit-down restaurant with low expectations, this could be good for you.

This restaurant is very popular which is why I gave it two chances. I love great Mexican food, but I found this restaurant very unremarkable. I was not a fan of any of their food. I also tried their burrito which is not pictured. I would only come if I wasn't very hungry and just wanted drinks, chips and guac. At least, there's lots of seating and it's aesthetically pleasing. FYI, it's very confusing because they call the tacos , tacquitos instead.

Pretty good spot with a great lunch deal. $15 for 2 tacos, a side, and some juice, yes sign me up. They have great fresh watermelon juice and the fish tacos are excellent. Plus, there's a variety of sauces and hot sauce to spice things up a bit. Definitely stop by one day before heading to the park

Campus Tour nearby and few steps from where we parked, seemed convenient. This warm weather felt like taco-appropriate snack. There wasn't much difference with seating indoors or out, maybe a couple of degrees cooler inside. Grilled fish tacos was a bit bland, but the chipotle sauce fixed it. Also, the corn tortilla was falling apart, that the fork became necessary. The fries it came with were so nice and crispy. The rice&beans was good; a sprinkle of ground cheese over the refried beans. I loved their churros, too. I wonder if it had glutinous rice because the texture reminded me of a mochi. It came with an excellent chocolate dip. Coffee had cinnamon and cardamom in it- nice! No need to ruin it with either cream or sugar. Our server was nice and the place was casual and colorful. I saw some moms with daughters looking like they also checked another uni.

This place is so worth the visit! Came with my friend on a Friday around 4:45pm and we were able to take advantage of their AMAZING lunch special which after taxes was $15 for a non alcoholic drink, torta or taco (2) and fries!!! The service was friendly and so efficient. Everything came fast and tasted great. Loved the whole experience and the ambiance is perfect.

Tortaria has an amazing brunch offer where you can get 2 drinks and a breakfast item all for $20! The drinks were very refreshing and you can tell they aren't stingy with the alcohol even if it is bottom shelf stuff. I ordered the breakfast burrito as my food item and it was very mediocre. Nothing to write home about but overall the brunch deal is a steal especially in this area. Servers are nice and check up on the table frequently. They have plenty of seating indoors and outdoors so definitely bring a couple friends for brunch!

Tortorila has become a neighborhood staple for me. The service is warm and friendly and the food literally came in less than 10 minutes. The food is juicy and delicious, and I HIGHLY recommend the pulled pork tacos. Food is fairly priced and pretty inexpensive for the area. The only downside for me is the loud music and environment, especially at night, but they do have nice outdoor seating as well.

Such a fun and colorful place! Was looking for a lunch special walking around the area and this place caught my eye. Inside the place everything is decorated in such gorgeous colors. Bringing a Mexican beach vacation vibe to New York. Lots of flowers (they are fake but I don't mind) and string lights. As an app I ordered a small chips and guacamole. I thought the guac was super tasty. They make it fresh to order and it was more then enough for one person. The chips were fresh, crispy and tasty. For my meal, I ordered a lunch special; the chicken fajitas del norte with no peppers. The lunch special also comes with a drink, I went with the homemade lemonade and an order of fries. The tacos were good! I thought the chicken was cooked well, I loved the melted cheese and grilled onions. They were super easy to eat, coming out almost rolled. The fries were delicious!!!! Crispy but not hard and coated in a lime salt. I could have just kept eating them. So good. Would love to come back for drinks with friends or brunch to check out what else they have.

Came here for a quick bite which ended up being a longer stay haha. The food is great the drinks are great. They have a brunch special for about $20 and you get two cocktails with it. I ended up ordering from the normal menu ,getting the enchiladas which I highly recommend. They were super flavorful and comes with rice and beans. My friend got the burrito which she really enjoyed. Make sure you ask for chipotle aoli it's so good!! For drinks I got the spicy marg, my friend got coconut lime. Both were good, coconut lime was better.

Everything we ate was delicious. However, for the price it wasn't great. Out if our table, the burrito and torta were the best, but the chicken floutitas were really small and also came out room temperature The services was really slow. We asked for water multiple times and it took forever to come out. Margaritas were good, pitcher for 4 people was perfect. So my suggestion would be to come here for some chips and guac and margs to start your night, but not your main event.

What a cute spot conveniently located by Union Square. Plenty of space for outdoor dining where tables were socially distanced. My party of 3 opted to sit indoors and, to our surprise, it was so colorful and floral inside- very pretty to look at. We took plenty of pictures. We ordered from the brunch menu and the lunch/dinner menu was also available to order from as well. From the brunch menu, we ordered: avocado grilled cheese w/ bacon & eggs melted oxacan cheese, piloncillo tomatoes, crispy bacon, bullseye egg, roasted chipotle salsa between two slices of challah bread. french toast thick challah dipped in battered eggs, tres leches, and cinnamon topped with fresh strawberries, white powdered sugar and maple syrup on the side From the regular menu , we got the enchiladas de tortaria with shrimp, chihuahua cheese, crema, avocado, pico de gallo, salsa served with a side of rice and black refried beans We also got flair as which were not on the menu. Everything was delicious. I loved the flautas as they were crispy and filling and the grilled cheese sandwich because it was so warm and gooey with the right amount of protein and good fats held nicely in thick, soft, sweet challah bread. Tasty way to start the day! I tried some of my friends' enchilada and French toast which I wish I got an order of for myself. Honestly this place has such a fun ambiance and delightful decor; the service was outstanding- staff was very attentive and friendly; the food was great and if you can believe it so are the prices! Also I was very happy to be able to order horchata (rice milk). It's sweet, topped with cinnamon, and hit the spot! It was my first time at the restaurant and I was very impressed. I will be back to try many more dishes.

So apparently this has been saved in my book mark forever and I finally made it out here. The chicken and fish tacos were amazing If I had too choose my favorite I would say the fish. I tried the ginger alcoholic beverage which was great and followed it up with a margarita. We also got the platter which came with fries, 4 tacos, chips and guacamole. It was great for the price point. The only disappoint was that one the guacamole size was so small and the fries came out over fried they did correct that and it tasted so much better. I will definitely come try this location in the future.

My friend and I checked this spot out by accident because he didn't have his COVID vaccination card and we were looking for a place to eat outdoors. The weather was beautiful and this place was packed. The area was bustling with New Yorkers enjoying the city which was a nice vibe. We sat a tiny table set but they did have larger booths for bigger groups. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our seat. The waitress did inform us they had immediate seats indoors so make sure you keep those vaccination cards and/or make a copy on your phone. I didn't get a chance to check out the reviews for this place. However, the menu looked pretty extensive to your typical Mexican spot. For drinks I had the watermelon margarita and my friend had some patron. I was shocked the drinks came in the small glass and not the typical margarita glass. For food, my friend ordered some beef tacos which he reported he didn't like. I ordered the chicken quesadillas which were good but very tiny. When I received my tiny plate I was like, are these tacos lol. We didn't get any complimentary chips either. lol The food hit the spot temporarily but I knew I would be hungry later on. Prices were reasonable for Manhattan but they do skimp out on those food portions. I am foodie so this won't be my regular spot. LOL
