Tortas Gigantes El Monje Loco

Absolutely delicious, a bit expensive but it's worth every penny, best place in downtown LA to eat tortas. If you want an exhilarating taste in each bite I would HIGHLY recommend! Everything is good food and attention.

Wow el niño huerfano was delicious and has alot of meat! Got a large, it was amazing but still have the other half of the sandwhich for later. Maybe next time ill get a small for a sitting worth of food. Perfect combination!

Food is ok , but way overpriced!

Price is higher than normal torta places, but for the size and amazing ingredients, it's absolutely worth it. I went for the smaller sized Cubana, which lead to full bellies for two people. The nice pineapple in the Cubana was refreshing. I think the bread goes soggy a bit fast, but nothing to really worry about if you use a fork. This place is small and not really many places to sit. I like this place for cubana's, and am planning my rounds on the menu.

These tortas are really good, they almost got the Mexican style, a 85% mexican taste, I am saying that because all food here in US tastes very different from the original food, but this one with las tortas are really close of the flavor from Mexico city tortas style. I like them very much, very friendly people here. They are following social distancing guidelines and orders are only to go!

Extremely thin layer felt more like bread than meat or anything else the peppers in the sandwich really carried it. Spent 25$ on a small Oaxacan torta and a melon water. Wouldn't mind it if it was atleast worth it. Meat tasted old and very chewy hard to even bite into. Not worth the price.

Very expensive 55 dollars for 2 tortas will come again when tax season hits jeje all the ingredients kinda sit out in the sun ngl

Ok, people, this is it. I would say this is the BEST torta place outside Mexico City by far. Not only stick to the recipe, but their menu is way better than any place that you could find. They have been in the same place for years. I know; the back of the gas station may be filthy, but these guys take care of the cleanliness of the food. I DARE anyone to tell me there is a better torta in the Los Angeles area. That is if you have ever been to Mexico City and have some knowledge of what I'm talking about. So stop by, buy a large "Cubana" and you can feed up to 4 people. That is a huge torta with all the fixings. So much meat that is almost a heart attack sentence so just don't get used to it. They offer you also the light version of every torta for the health and fit conscious. But the flavor, tastiness, and tradition of the dish, rarely you will find a better one. I guarantee it

El servicio al cliente es pésimo, desde la dueña hasta los trabajadores. Mi esposo iba a comer ahí de vez en cuando hasta que un día la trabajadora lo empezó a culpar que se había ido sin pagar la vez anterior, a lo que mi esposo le dijo que eso no era cierto y chequeara sus cámaras porque no lo podía está culpando sin pruebas, por que el siempre paga lo que el y sus muchachos comen. Después de 10 a 15 minutos de estar discutiendo sobre eso la señora se dio cuenta que era otro y no mi esposo y que se había equivocado. Nisiquiera ofreció disculpas ni nada. Ya la calidad de la comida no es tan buena como antes. Ya solo les quedó fama porque la calidad de la comida está muy baja.

Bomb bomb! Best torta I have ever had! The large torta is huge and packed with flavor and so juicy. The ladies working there are super sweet and friendly. I've been here a few times and I can't wait to go back!

This place is, interesting. It is definitely a part of LA's food trucks/ vendors mosaic. The food is Mexican styled from Mexico City. It's a bunch of different tortas. Pictured is the cubana torta in Large at $18. You can share it with THREE people if you wanted. It's sooooo massive. There are so many ingredients in it. However due to all the stuff in it, my tastebuds werent able to taste anything remarkable. It wasnt gross but it wasnt amazing either. Maybe trying a torta with less ingredients is better. Would i go back? Honestly I dont think so. But if youre looking for a very specific food style from Mexico, maybe try this place out. I've heard this vendor has been up for many years now. So they must be doing something right. The set up isnt the prettiest, but you can smell the cleanliness and see that there is no dirt mess.

These tortas were pretty good. But a tad bit pricey $9-$12each. But tbh it was worth it. I'm from the Bay Area and finding different flavor tortas is really hard to find. We got Hawaiiana, chilanga, oaxaqueña. Hawaiiana and oaxaqueña tortas were good but the chilanga Torta was a bit different. The sausage was a different flavor but over all it was okay. Oh also if your okay with small spaces you can eat at there mini tables or take it to go. Not much parking spaces either.

the tortas are huge and can be pricey depending on which you get. i order the Hawaiian (ham, pineapple, cheese) a large and it came to $16. i will say it was delicious. this food truck looks VERY divey so keep that in mind but it was some good food.

I just called to ask a couple of questions. Since I spoke English, I was hung up on immediately. I called back to say I was hung up on and that i had a question, they hung up on me. It takes a lot to upset me but this right here just pissed me off. The worst customer service and I'll be sure to let everyone know not to ever eat here since they discriminate.

Taste is good but they are super expensive. Last time I was there, I ordered two big tortas: #1 La Rusa and I asked to add some egg. That was $23. #2 Asada with Sausage, Ham, and egg. It was $35. Given the fact that the Niño Huerfano torta, which has all kinds if meat and a lot of it, and egg as well, was $30, they could have charged me a little less than $30 or that amount at most since they put a lot less stuff for the asada torta I asked for. I asked the ladies to charge me as if I ordered the most expensive one they advertised and they said no because of the way I ordered it, each item on it was being charged separately. In addition, they advertise the big tortas at a cost of $16, which is not true. They told me the simple ones with one thos of meat are $20 and others $23. I was very disppointed with the price. Están para no regresar! I ended up paying $58 for two tortas; each is about he size of two regular tortas. I am not going back!

I first heard about El Monje with a flyer in the mail which confused me since I knew that a gas station resided on the corner of Western and Pico Blvd. Then I walked by and heard the music (They're always pumping some Latin music) and noticed the little stand. Unlike many trucks and stands they don't stay out very late but seem to be stationed there for most of the day. About a week ago I decided to try them out. So their menu has small tortas for $7 and larger ones for $10. So far I've eaten their cubana (a $10) and toluqueno ($7) both of which were good. Not the best torta I've had but far from the worst. Even the small torta was pretty big and filling. To be honest you can split a $10 one with someone else (they cut the sandwiches in half anyway).

Fuckinggggg yesssssss Love them. Found this place by accident, the tortas are big $9 for small(which is t small at all) and the big one for $10. They also sell aguas frescas. It's worth trying them.

A buddy brought me by for their namesake gigantic sandwich. The tellera rolls are big enough for two so we split a milanese (fried beef). $12. It was good, freshly made on a walk up cart with all the fixings including avocado. The menu has a big selection and endless possibilities to pile high. meats, egd, pina. I'm glad we shared it because a full one would be napsville. They were doing a steady tream of business during lunch. They have a couple of small table, but otherwise you are sitting in the parking lot of a Shell gas staion.

This little place rocks! The best tortas in the area so far this place have the closest flavor to the México city flavor, the cubanas are great , the lambada omg! So tasteful,the oaxaqueña speechless... Don't imagine what you are reading anymore come to this little place that is in the back of shell gas station.

Delicious and will definetely make me return for more. They were huge and delicious and amazing. Customer service is beyond perfect and make you feel at home. Las mejores tortas del mundo.

The Tortas are huge !!! Maria and Lucia make the best Tortas in la !! You have to come and try this monster of a torta. I ordered the torta GIGANTE CUBANA. My girlfriend and I shared it and we couldn't finish it . The taste was amazing the torta has egg, chorizo, sausage, ham, breaded beef steak, Oaxaca cheese, yellow cheese and other toppings I forgot. I highly recommend this spot !

I got the italiana torta since I'm vegetarian and it was delicious. My group and I agreed that the ratios of everything on the tortas is perfect. Nothing slips out and it's not dripping in any oil. Perfection.

Love this place, they have 2 sizes medium and gigantic! All for a good price. Been going here for a while and I will never get tired of this place! Call ahead to just pick up your torta!
