An Egg-Obsessed Indian Street Food Joint Finally Touches Down in D.C. — And More July Openings | Eater DC

"I note that Tortas y Tacos opened a third location in Virginia Square bringing Mexican favorites like flautas, burritos, and nachos, and owner David Villalobos says the menu is a "copy and paste" of his other eateries." - Emily Venezky

Google
The food here is absolutely delicious! We tried the Pozole and Sopa de Pollo, and both were incredible. The flavors were rich, perfectly seasoned, and served hot and fresh. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and prepared with care. The service was warm and welcoming, with the staff making sure we felt right at home. Everything came out quickly, and the team was attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere is relaxed and authentic, making it a great spot to enjoy traditional Mexican comfort food. We’ve also been to their other location on Columbia Pike, and the quality is consistently excellent at both. Highly recommend if you’re craving real Mexican flavors done right! 🌮

Google
This place is amazing! I ordered the Torta Cubana and it was absolutely the bomb—packed with flavor, perfectly grilled, and super satisfying. We came as a group of 11 people, and the staff handled everything smoothly. The service was quick and friendly, and the place had a great vibe—clean, welcoming, and just the right kind of cozy. Everyone in our group loved their food. You can really taste the authenticity in every bite. If you’re looking for real Mexican food in Arlington, Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita III is a must-visit. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
I had 4 tacos amazing! 3 de cabeza (beef head meat Highly recommend for those that never had it its like pot roast but without the potatoes/carrots/celery) & 1 of carnitas (shredded pork). Im Tejano from the Southwest of the US. Its hard to find good tacos in DC unless you make them yourself. This is my go to for tacos, been here 4 times so far. I dont recommend the cheese dip nor the menudo, its not bad but its a different take from the Southwest. So if someone is to ask me where to get tacos around the DMV this place. there is 2 other locations i believe but I never been.

Google
By far the best Mexican food in the area! Kathy and Noelia were excellent! I would definitely recommend the restaurant! Great food, great service, and very clean!

Google
First off — Henry made the experience amazing! He helped guide us on the top picks and was very patient as it was our first time. The food tasted amazing and was delivered fresh and hot. Looking forward to coming back to the tasty bites and hospitality!!

Google
The food was delicious. As a California transplant, it has been challenging to find good Mexican and this place was delicious and the closest to authentic I have found in the DMV. The staff was super friendly and the ambiance was impeccable. The choco flan was the perfect way to end my meal.

Google
Great spot for delicious and authentic tacos. The crispy birria taco is my fave, but I also love the al pastor and camaron tacos. Casual space inside, order at the counter and sit at a table with a number. Great as a late night spot too.

Google
This place is amazing! On top of how delicious our food was the service was amazing. As you walk in you’re welcomed with a delicious smell. The menu is excellent and very versatile. There’s breakfast, tacos, tortas and even dessert! Norman took care of us really well and gave us suggestions as we’re placing our order. The pozole was sooooo good I finished the whole bowl. The tacos and the chilaquiles to die for! I’d definitely will come back to try other things from the menu. It’s so cute inside. Definitely will recommend to try!

Yelp
Excellent - new Taco Tuesday spot. Tried a bevy of different types for the special prices that day ($3/per) and they were all excellent, but the crispy birria taco is just perfect. Shrimp tacos were a close second. Service was attentive even though it's primarily counter service. A fair amount of birria nachos for $15 but probably won't get this again. By that time we got to the bottom, many were floppy. Will return on a regular basis and try more things.

Yelp
They have a pretty large menu and tons of house made drinks and frozen fruit smoothie type things. It's also open late. I'll definitely be back here. The carne asada platter was on point. Delicious and filling and with so much variety. It had a large portion of grilled cactus, which was delicious, grilled green onion, and a grilled jalapeño (which to my surprise was hollowed out and stuffed with cheese). I'd definitely get it again. My friend got a shrimp taco (and said it was perfect) and a taco al pastor (and said it was greasy--but it looked good, and to me an al pastor should be a little greasy, so I'd try one if I went back).

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by a friend who told me they make the best cheesy birria tacos. She wasn't kidding. The entire cheesy birria taco was fried (this was not a healthy lunch) and it was so good. I also ordered the carnitas taco which was equally as delicious. We had a side of guacamole (it had a lot of chunky onions in it, which isn't my fav but that's a personal preference!) and horchata to drink (also amazing). I finished lunch really full and really happy. I'll definitely return!

Yelp
Hole-in-the wall counter-service Mexican spot with a large menu of authentic and incredibly delicious Mexican food The servers are very friendly, and the prices are very affordable, and portions are large I only have 2 critiques 1) They don't have publicly available water, so you need to ask at the counter every time you want to refill your cup of water 2) My friend got take-out here and had plastic in her food. I haven't experienced this here, but I would be remiss not to to mention it
google avatar

Yelp
Tacos were kindve small. Everything was really fresh. The vibes in the restaurant were very good. Chorizo taco was great, the chicken well seasoned. However the asada was not the best, and to me that should be the main taco meat that should be ranked high. The price is pretty expensive at $4, however they do have taco Tuesday for a dollar off. I would give them a 3.5

Yelp
We loveee the other location so were very excited when this one opened within walking distance. We always get the tacos - pastor, mixto and birrira are our favorite. Get the consume with the birria, it is worth the $4.50 for the sauce. We didn't love the quesadilla as it has mayo and mustard on the inside. Tuesday is taco night! There are many tables inside and good for groups of 2-6. There are some tables outside with umbrellas, but not a lot of light at night. Bathrooms are nice. Staff is incredibly friendly and comes by to ask how your food is, drop off sauce and fill waters - which is above and beyond for more of a QSR restaurant vs fully sit down. Closest to the VA Square metro and lots of paid street parking.

Yelp
6/5 for EVERYTHING - food quality, location, service, price. I found this hidden gem right near Virginia Square a couple months ago, and since then have gone 5+ times! The tacos are absolutely delicious and extremely authentic AND affordable. They load meat for $3-4 tacos, and you can get filled with 3 tacos. The flavor profiles are AMAZING - rich, full of flavor (my favorite is the pastor tacos with pineapple :)). Plus, the place is open until 2am daily and always has space. Definitely a dangerous spot as I find myself stumbling in around midnight :). So grateful for this place WOW.

Yelp
The space at 3811 Fairfax Dr has been a revolving door of various fast casual businesses. After a visit to its current iteration: Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita III, I now hope this eatery is here to stay. Named and numbered like a Rocky film franchise, Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita serves a complete menu of authentic, flavor-packed Mexican fare. I've visited for both dine-in and take-out, and my favorite so far is the Asada Tortas. There's no frills, welcoming decor, and just good food.
google avatar

Wilton P.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I have eaten at the original location of Tortas y tacos La Chiquita many times and have ordered takeout from this location a lot as well. But we decided to dine-in for once at this location to see what the service and ambience was like and we had a great experience. We ordered a lot of food - lengua, shrimp, carnitas, birria tacos, chicken flautas and birria consommé. Everything was amazing and reasonably priced. I tried their agua fresca de piña which was delicious and refreshing. This place is just always excellent. I'm glad they're expanding.

Yelp
Maybe I went on an off night for them. I came by because a friend very very highly recommended it. I stopped by for two tacos and it took 10 minutes to get them. To me it seemed like a long time to wait to assemble two tacos. While I was waiting I noticed there was a plate of food ready to bring to a guest at a table and it just sat there the entire time I was waiting for my 2 tacos. I ordered a chicken taco and a beef taco, no cilantro. The flavor of both were very good but the beef taco had a very large piece of gristle in it, and a couple of smaller ones. I was bothered that the menu for many items has a range, for instance I was looking at the desserts. I think it would be better to just list each price individually. Parking is very hard to come by on that section of Fairfax, best to walk there. I'm going to say they probably had an off night but I don't feel compelled to go back.

Yelp
Summary- don't tell the white people who go to Taco Bamba but there's a better more authentic place in Mosiac From the outside, this place looks like a hole in the wall. In complete honesty this place is absolutely 100% better the Taco Bamba. The owners are from Mexico City. They make food like they would in La Ciudad or el DF. MENUDO on point TACOS- Taco Tuesday 3 bucks a taco with a better variety than any other place near it. More authentic flavors like they do street food. The menu is Legit and I endorses this place being a Mexican American who loves Mexican street food. Don't tell the gringos this place is here because they won't understand how good this place really is.

Yelp
Discovered this place while walking by in the area. 4.5/5. Food here is legit and service is very attentive in clearing away plates. Fast casual vibe with outdoor seating available. Highly recommend for a quick bite or takeout order. Ordered guac and chips, an array of tacos, side of consome (big portion for a side), and tres leches for dessert. Carne asada had good flavor and was definitely my favorite followed by the birria. Guac was fresh and creamy. Food was delicious at an affordable price point. Place looks unassuming but don't miss out folks!

Yelp
We really loved the steak tacos, very flavorful, as well as the chicken tacos. We didn't care for the queseabirria, it was a bit too sweet. Definitely would come back for the steak tacos! We placed our order online and it was ready quickly. Nice sit down area inside and imported snacks!

Yelp
Third Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita location in the DMV? And it's a five minute walk from my place? Oop. I've had Tortas Y Tacos before at the Columbia Pike location and thought it was tasty and affordable (but a bit greasy). Somehow, this location's food is still so flavorful and filling but not as greasy? ASADA TORTA One of my favorite things here is definitely their asada torta. Each one comes with a good amount of well seasoned steak, lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, onions, and a good amount of condiments. I liked that it's so filling and with good/fresh ingredients for a small price (like $11-12 for a torta?). It's also not too greasy and the torta is massive. I'm stuffed after eating one. It's dangerous having a Tortas Y Tacos so close by. It'll definitely be a go-to when I'm lazy and don't want to cook.

Yelp
Excellent service and great tacos! My wife and I tried it for the first time yesterday, and we were pleased with the tacos. We are planning on returning to try the other dishes. The service was excellent. It was nice to experience excellent customer service from the young staff, which is sadly something you don't often experience.

Yelp
Place was hopping and busy. Music was great. Place was nicer than the pictures. Seats are leather-ish and comfortable. You order when you enter like a cafeteria and they give you a number. I liked that they had vitamin water! A margarita would have been better. But no alcohol. We ordered cheesy birra tacos with condiments, taco al Pasteur, lingua taco, asada sope, guacamole and chips, side of beans and cheese, and a torta cubano with extra lettuce. They served the guacamole and chips first which was great. The guacamole was amazing. Fresh and lots of flavor. The chips were good too- very crunchy. They could use a little more salt. Everything was really good, especially all the tacos. Flavorful. Good portions. The cubano torta is huge but just ok. Bathroom was clean but needs something on the walls. Service was great. They constantly came by and picked up dirty plates. Will definitely return to this fast casual place.

Yelp
YUMMYYYYYYY I CANT GET ENOUGH TACOS FROM HEREEEEEE ESPECIALLY ON TUESDAYS when each is only $3!!! It's dangerously well priced and delicious. My faves are: tripa, lengua, asada, birria and mixtos. Can't go wrong with anything you choose at this place. Staff is super friendly too!
google avatar

Patty R.

Yelp
I got the torta with pollo and I really liked it! If you're already in Ballston and if you want a quick Mexican bite that's pretty good I'd go here. The horchata is nice as well and the guac was good though I thought the portion size was a bit too small

John T.

Yelp
Great food at this location. Carry out was as ordered. Authentic food. Give it a try.
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
Ordered takeout and items were missing and made incorrectly. I could have overlooked the made incorrectly part if any of it had been remotely tasty.. but the birria ramen [had corn & some mystery meat in addition to the fatty birria in it, no limes or radishes provided, tortillas were soaked in old grease & spit out immediately], asada burrito [no sour cream, meat was burnt] , milanesa torta [no jalapeños & burnt], chicharones [tasted old], tres leche cake [no strawberry glaze on top and not tasty] and churros [the crunchiest (in a baddd way) thing I've ever eaten]. Even the can of coke that was ordered was room temperature.. I have no idea how this place has good reviews, it was a complete waste of money and went directly in the trash.
google avatar

Essie K.

Yelp
Decent mexican food. I tried some of the tacos and elote. Mixtas was my favorite. The carne and shrimp tacos were average. I wish they had more flavor. The restaurant itself is very cozy and has lots of seating space. Would order from here again!
google avatar

Jaci B.

Yelp
Amazing cheesy birria tacos! We literally drink the consume. This place has become our go-to taco spot.
google avatar

Key J.

Yelp
I had the opportunity to try this gem out during a trip and was pleasantly surprised. The outside is unassuming but don't let that fool you. I had one of the best chicken quesadillas I've ever had and for an affordable price (for the area). I had it without any adjustments and some of the ingredients included were definitely different from what I am used to in a quesadilla but it all worked together. It was served with two delicious salsas and pickled jalapeños which were great but a little salty. All in all I would definitely go back to try more things on their menu when back in town.
google avatar

Leo T.

Yelp
I don't know how you landed on this spot on Yelp, but if you're looking for good authentic Mexican food jot down the address and get here. The reviews and web site don't do it justice. It's spacious, has gracious staff, expansive menu and prices are on point. I live in Moco but work in Arlington and I'm coming back on the weekend with friends. It's that good.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Came for lunch. Fair prices, nice staff, good food. Place is casual and clean. I'll definitely be back.

Zerline H.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican which is hard to find in the DMV. It's our favorite and we go weekly. Great customer service, too. Eat in or take out.

Arnaud B.

Yelp
Nice service. The new #1 in Ballston taco power rankings. They're the most authentic tacos and guess what - that means they taste the best. Who would've thought the most Mexican tasting tacos are the best. Also - Horchata machines. So good.

Tyler O.

Yelp
Fantastic, authentic tacos. Best in the DMV. Highly recommend the asada to start with

Jennifer J T.

Yelp
This place has really good pozole for a great price. Super flavorful, tons of pork. You can even get extra broth to stretch it out. So rich and delicious and way easier and better than making it at home. I like lots of veggie garnishes so I will often pick up extra radishes and maybe cabbage either from them or from the grocery store on the way home. Feeds me for several meals.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
For Virginia, it was okay but as someone from LA, it was eh. Portions are small. Friendly service.

Julia S.

Yelp
I eat here regularly. Delicious food every time. Anything with the pollo or grilled cactus is a good choice. Same for anything with the chorizo.

J K.

Yelp
Finally, a GOOD Mexican restaurant in Ballston. The tortas and tacos are fantastic.

Gunnar G.

Yelp
Insanely good, birria taco is the best I've ever had, dudes are chill as well, vibes are dope
google avatar

Tom B.

Yelp
Finally, a real taqueria in VA Square! Chicken sopes are crispy, not soggy and taste great. Also had the cheesey birria and chorizo tacos which were flavorful as well. Finished off with churros which were fresh, warm, and crispy. Fast service. I will be back.
google avatar

Angel V.

Yelp
The best place to eat everything is very good I recommend to everyone come to try all the tacos is very delicious

Diana B.

Yelp
THE BEST TACOS IN THE DMV! First offf the service is AMAZING, I felt welcome and well attended when I arrived! No one does it like LA CHIQUITA! I ate the carne asada and it was delicious and very tasty, juicy, and well seasoned! Will definitely come back! And it is very convenient because it is close to where I go to school (Marymount)!! Gonna eat some tacos after lecture! And the aguas frescas are so good!! I got Jamaica and it hit the spot!

S K.

Yelp
I love that this place opened nearby but found the multiple dishes (pozole, various tacos, etc) I've tried for the past few months to be extremely salty enough to wonder if folks taste the food made. In hopes of future modification, I'm leaving this feedback. I would love to go back soon if the food weren't so salty.

Nicki N.

Yelp
OMG these are the most delicious tacos I've had in the DC area ever. We tried the asada, pastor, and crispy birria tacos + chips & queso and everything was perfect! These are authentic - the double corn tortillas with fresh cilantro and onions on top - and everything is so flavorful. I cannot WAIT to go back and work my way through the menu!!

Alex K.

Yelp
I'm from California and I thought La Chiquita was as good as the Mexican food there. Definitely go if you have the chance. Closest you'll get to the delicious flavors of the taco trucks in LA.

Aidan S.

Yelp
My wife and I popped in late on a Sunday night. We received warm and fast service, and the food was great. The tacos are small but the price is reasonable (compared to city prices). You'd have to drive 45min+ south to find better tacos/prices

Jyoti G.

Yelp
Amazing food for reasonable prices. Happy to have an authentic Mexican spot in the neighborhood!

Toni

Yelp
Good food and reasonable prices. Fast pace place conciniently located in the heart of Arlington.

Mia S.

Yelp
Good stuff. Authentic mexican. Please don't change. Their salsa to die for! Be careful the red one's muy picante. Just how I like it!

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
stopped in here for lunch and absolutely loved it! the service was quick and attentive, the food was delicious, and the restaurant was super clean. we tried a few of the tacos, chips and guac, and a burrito and loved everything. we will definitely be back!
