Texcocana - Review - Centro Histórico - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"Open since 1936 in Centro Histórico (their youngerJuárezsibling has been around for a breezy 35 years), this tiny, standing-room-only tortería with tremendous old-school charm is a legend for nailing the four-to-five-bite cold torta. Their carnitas torta layered with guacamole and smoky chipotle salsa is made right in front of you at a curved glass counter by someone who’s clearly been perfecting the move for decades. The bacalao torta, a rare year-round offering that’s salty and garlicky, is also a must, especially if you tack on an extra avocado for a few extra pesos, which you can since a torta here clocks in at only $2–$3. So go ahead and order two." - Guillaume Guevara

My ideal torta spot. Limited options, for eating and sitting. The place is small folks and I love that. Order at least two, one simply will not do the job. I had the carnitas and avocado. Avocado was my favorite. The chipotle pepper was great on both sandwiches, but would double them on my next visit (tomorrow).

Super charming tiny tortería. The sandwiches are simple and tasty, the service is quick, and the price is affordable. One of my favorite quick lunch spots in the neighborhood.

Had to go here for its history. Torteria La Texcocan has been here since 1936, it is the oldest in Mexico City. The tortas are small in comparison to others served by street vendors, but the taste and toppings are simple. They are not piled up like others. The bread is fresh, avocado is just avocado, sauce was delicious and the meat is soft and juicy. Inexpensive and the service was excellent. If you are near the center-near Parque Alameda, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

I ordered three sandwiches: carnitas, mortadela, and queso blanco. I was satisfied after two but had room for a third because they’re not too big and I skipped breakfast. For ~40 pesos they’re a fair size. All three had avocado and chili jam along with the main ingredients, but each had its own unique, balanced flavor. It was also a pleasure to watch them made. It appears to be customary to leave the sandwich assembler a small tip, so I did. Fully recommend.

Fantastic, long standing business selling delicious small tortas. They were so good i forgot to take pictures. i had a great meal having two tortas, asking for extra avocado on each. i had both Pierna and Ham and Pierna and Bacalao. All were delicious. highly recommend it if you are in the area. This family business has been successfully running for decades, now into it's fourth generation.

Super delicious! My only complaint is that I didn’t get more. The two ladies present and the shops were also extremely polite. Can’t wait to come back!

A tiny place with really tasty tortas. Don't expect those fatty tortas full of ingredients. These are simple but full of flavor. Carnitas is the best!
