The Best Teriyaki in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"South Seattle is stocked with hidden gems that quietly dish out awesome food at low prices. Toshio’s is one of those places. The building is surprisingly modern, with big floor-to-ceiling windows in an open, loft-like structure. The staff is welcoming and friendly, making this a perfect spot for a quick bite or a cheap date night. The scrumptious tempura bites are a crispy complement to the teriyaki." - Joey Carreon

6pm on a Tuesday, dinner instead of traffic. Only person in the restaurant. Ordered the #1 chicken with rice and salad. A little sauce heavy but not too thick. Balance salt and sweetness. Grilled chicken has nice grilled profile-I like bits of char here and there. Reminds me of “Hawaiian plate lunch”-good portion and you just eat.

I had a great dining experience here and everything I ordered was delicious. The man working the day I was there named Demetrius was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He made some great recommendations that I really enjoyed. The dining area wasn’t very spacious but they have tables outside so people can eat out there if it’s too crowded inside. I’m going to go back here in a few days and try some other items on the menu that demetrius recommend. I hope he knows how much his customers appreciate his amazing customer service.

I had lunch here and it was delicious. I got the order of gyoza where were fried perfectly. I also got the beef Yakisoba noodles and they were super yummy. The staff was very friendly and catering. They have parking, bathrooms, and indoor seating. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for some fresh teriyaki style food.

I just want to say this place is so amazing. The food was amazing. The plates were such huge servings. We had enough for leftovers for next day. The prices were so cheap. They had a free water and free tea and open restroom that was available and pretty clean the store looked, very clean and I loved all the quotes on the wall It was so beautiful. I definitely recommend everyone and anyone going out to this place. You can go with the family and have their combo plates. We’ve had it before. It’s not our first time coming here. Every time we’ve come to service has been amazing. Got the privilege of being able to take my cousin with me this time and it was just so beautiful the time we got to spend there, love this place open on Sundays. It’s an amazing good price come out and check them out.

Google
I drive by this place on the way home from work, and tonight I stopped and wasted $60 on the worst teriyaki we have ever had. It was so awful... the beef was indescribably dry. The chicken still had the fat and skin on it. Even the rice was overcooked and mushy. The teriyaki sauce was like lumpy gravy, the yakisoba noodles were overdone and didn't taste right either! I was disappointed and still hungry! **Yes, it was so bad- we didn't even eat it!** see pics below⬇️

When we first got here there was a lot of people getting take out and mobile orders. We thought this was a good sign but sadly that’s the last time I’ll use the word good for this review. It took a long time just to order, the prices are quite high for what you get and they have charges for everything from refills, to CC charges, to extra sauces, etc. There was 6 in our group and there is very little seating inside but since it was hot and they had no AC, we decided to eat outside. Once we got our food two of the people in our group had enough after one or two bites. The sauce is odd, it’s very sweet, and def not teriyaki flavor that I’ve had before. I decided to power through and ate about half of my plate which was about as much as any one person in our group was able to get through. We all ended up throwing away the food and walked down the street and just grab some subway.

I was heading back to the East Coast today, but before I caught a ride back to the airport I had to try some local teriyaki from a place like this... And man was I not disappointed. I ordered up the chicken teriyaki, which came with rice and a small side salad. The first bite was an experience, the chicken? Tender and juicy. The sauce? Tangy and delicious. I also opted to have the sauce over my rice, which I now feel should be mandatory. I hope that everyone going to the area gets to try this, and these kind of places can spread across the nation and not be localized to this area of the country. Can't wait to come back and get more.

Google
I decided to finally try their teriyaki after hearing so many great reviews but I did not like it at all. The flavor wasn’t there… The individual that took my order (not sure if she’s the owner) didn’t acknowledge I was even there even though I was the only one standing there waiting to place my order… the individual that came 10 minutes later to order ended up getting their order first… which we both got teriyaki chicken. What is nice about the place though is that there’s actually free parking.

Yelp
I love that the teriyaki chicken has the "charcoal" taste which gives it that extra depth of flavor. Staff were friendly and there were a couple of tables inside if you want to eat there. I would come here for a quick bite and a pretty good teriyaki restaurant!

Yelp
Hmm, I still think this is better than the rest. There are some places that make a really good spicy teriyaki, but this place pumps out the best basic teriyaki. It's never too salty, never too sweet and never overcooked and dried out. It's the godfather.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and it was my favorite teriyaki, but unfortunately the quality has gone down :( this place was easily a 5 star place a couple years back in the day. The chicken still has good grill flavor and comes with the thigh with skin on top with it which is nice for those who like it. The chicken used to be really soft, rotisserie like but it's really chewy now with less soy/ teriyaki flavor. The sauce is more like a gravy than a sauce and i wish it had a little more sweetness or depth to it. There's a hefty amount of chicken though i would say 2-3 chicken thigh's worth. Salad was kind of wet still and not dried all the way so it was not as crunchy as could be and the salad dressing is more mayo heavy which isn't bad or good. Overall i'm sad to see the place decline in quality but i will definitely be back to try again because it always has been my favorite.

Yelp
Ordered takeout, 1 chicken teriyaki and 1 chicken teriyaki + gyoza. Gyoza is not pictured because they put 4 in a separate baggy with dipping sauce in a small container. No spicy teriyaki here but hot sauce was extra 45 cents. Teriyaki and salad from here tasted different than I'm used to from other spots but not necessarily bad. I wish the chicken was grilled more for the smoky flavor, chicken cut a little smaller, and I thought it needed a bit more sauce. I thought portions were fine. In terms of ambiance, felt like a family restaurant. Not my fav teriyaki spot but it was nice.

Yelp
These people try so hard and mean so well. I really wanted to like their teriyaki. A few years ago, it was quite good (I used to eat their food regularly). Sadly, the teriyaki just isn't that good anymore. Now, it's gotten more expensive and the quality has fallen off -- what a shame. They still get a lot of construction workers buying their lunch there, but not so many people driving to their restaurant as a destination. The people are wonderful. The food, not so much -- here are the details from my most recent visit. The gyoza was a little greasy and ok, but each piece was small (more greasy surface area, less filling inside) -- it's not the amount of food that I care about, but the affect of small sized gyoza on the ratio of greasy covering to filling. Larger gyoza are better in this regard. The chicken was a little dry. The beef was chewy and of really poor quality - they used to have better beef, but this was a waste of money. The rice was heavy and sticky and barely warm. The teriyaki and the rice were drowned in cloyingly sweet teriyaki sauce. The only thing that has improved over the years is the salad. And then there's another annoyance -- the cost of the items on the menu, didn't match the total on my charge slip -- there was $1.15 discrepancy (and tax was itemized, so that's not it). I don't know if that's a credit card fee, a bag fee or what, but I really don't like being charged for things without notification. It would be far better to get an itemized receipt with the details than to be annoyed by the tax + the items purchased + tip don't add up to the amount charged. I'll probably go back - I want to give support these wonderful people in their business -- but it's not because I want their teriyaki.

Yelp
I love this teriyaki! I've tried both the traditional chicken with rice/salad and also the yakisoba. Both are really good. My only complaint is sometimes it can be hard to find parking and it is also expensive.
google avatar

Irene L.

Yelp
Sitting on a little corner, there isn't much parking in front or much seating inside, most of the people that ordered seemed to order for to-go. Chicken Yakisoba 3.5/5 - $16.19+tax&tip. Whether eating in or taking out, they provide food in takeout containers. The yakisoba is slightly tangy and mildly sweet due to the Japanese Worcestershire in the sauce, if you aren't use to this then it might be a little off putting. For vegetables, it includes carrots and cabbage which aren't too overcooked. The chicken was cut into small chucks, some a little too small but texture of the larger pieces were bouncy and juicy. I probably wouldn't get the yakisoba again but definitely would want to get the chicken teriyaki. My friends got the chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki and curry beef. I'd also rank them in terms of deliciousness in that order. Juicy chicken atop rice (they ask if you'd like teriyaki sauce on your rice, yes is the way to go!) The beef was fairly tender and tasty but for the price difference, I'd still go for chicken. The curry beef was too salty by itself and needed the rice to mediate, it tasted more like an Indian curry powder, heavier on the turmeric compared to other curries. I've never encountered a complimentary salad from a teriyaki place in WA that I didn't like, this is no exception. Slightly sweet over a handful of lettuce, my complaint there is I wish there was more salad. I'd be back if I was craving chicken teriyaki after the climbing gym but it isn't my ultimate favorite teriyaki

Yelp
The food is not the same. The service is still great but the food is noticeably going down in quality. This place really used to be a staple but I rarely go anymore.
google avatar

Loco L.

Yelp
I'm very disappointed, other locations provide a bigger portion. At this location they use half side of the container for greens, one quarter for the chicken and the other quarter for the rice. At other locations or other teriyaki businesses, they serve the rice balls on one half and the chicken on the other half. The greens always go "on the side" inside a small container. What is similar...which is very odd, it's the price...$14 - $16. Also they grilled the chicken WITH SKIN...just awful.

Yelp
Finally! Decided to get lunch at this long established teriyaki place on Rainer Street. A few Instagram foodies I follow who showcase Seattle eateries have recommended this spot for teriyaki and more. Small family run business with excellent vibes. All orders made to go. Super friendly service with a smile. You can eat inside or outside at the several tables. If you eat there it is tight as it is small. I noticed a small area with chairs and no tables. Most likely for people waiting for to go orders. I ordered a combination plate with teriyaki chicken and vegetable tempura. The rice is very sticky. The chicken is charred from being grilled and covered in a teriyaki sauce. The skin left on. Not complaining, I loved it. The side salad had a white sauce that had a delicious sesame flavor. The vegetable tempura was ok, maybe to go it loses some crispiness. But the batter was flavorful and I ate all of it! Dipped in the sauce it definitely satisfied my craving. Parking lot here is small but manageable. Street parking nearby looks tricky. It's worth it. Nice price point too for the amount of food. Do it! Come here. Eat well. SYOY!

Yelp
Ugh I hate to be the one to have to leave this kind of review, but I want to be honest and fair about my experience. I will start by saying that the woman who helped me was very nice and lovely. I believe she was the owner but I'm not sure. But regardless of the red fact, she was nice to interact with for sure! She got my phone order correct and had it waiting for me at the front when I got there. Another positive is the inside is nice and appears clean. I was only in there for a quick second, but upon looking around, it seemed like it could be a nice place to sit down and eat. However, I was pretty disappointed with the food. I ordered a regular teriyaki chicken. And I guess I'll start with the sauce, it is very much lacking flavor and not a common representation of what I would expect teriyaki sauce to taste like. I don't know if there was a fluke in this batch, but it just lacked traditional flavor. I could use some soy sauce and maybe some garlic or something. I'm not the expert but I've made teriyaki sauce before and I would say I would maybe start there. But yeah, it's just it just wasn't good sauce. Now onto the chicken. That chicken also had no flavor whatsoever. And I got multiple pieces that almost had a stale texture to them like they were old or something. They were also some very soft textured pieces and maybe wonder if maybe they kind of mixed the two together? But I could definitely tell that there were some older pieces in there. AND my 13 year old also told me that his was stale. He usually would eat a whole thing of teriyaki chicken and rice in one sitting, he LOVES himself some teriyaki chicken but this he barely put a dent in it. So that also speaks volumes and confirms my point of view as well. So when you combined no flavor in the sauce and no flavor in the chicken, it was a very bland experience. I'm sorry, but it just wasn't good. I was reading somebody's review on here and they had said that the quality of changed in the last couple of years and I think I would have to piggyback on that. I've been to this place before years ago and as a younger child and they were absolutely delicious! It was one of my favorite places to go for dinner. But now I don't think I will return nor would I recommend it to anybody at this point in time. But this is my experience and I felt the need to share it because I'm not gonna finish this meal that I bought. I definitely tried to look past the flaws, but it's just not good. And I feel bad saying this but at the same time I would recommend saving your money. And to the company, I would definitely recommend marinating the meat and also looking into a new recipe for the sauce. Also throw away old meat and start fresh each day! I'm not sure what's changed in the last few years, but I wish they'd go back to what it used to be. I could give it a five star if it was back to the quality it was at before. But right now I sit at a very generous 3. UPDATE: Later on in the evening after eating this food I had some really uncomfortable stomach and digestive issues!! I'll leave that there! I now lower this rating to a 1!

Yelp
I felt like some teriyaki....and saw this place so I stopped on by. I ended up buying a chicken teriyaki and a lemonade. They don't have a lot of drink choices just FYI. I was greeted and helped right away. The lady was nice and we ended up talking about the Super Bowl. It's small inside and a little bit of seating. The chicken teriyaki and salad is good. If you're in the area....stop bye!

Yelp
Passed by this many place too many times to not finally try it out. Old and run down but food was pretty great. Good standard teriyaki. Could've been grilled a little more (needs that char flavor) but it was still pretty solid. I also liked that they put teriyaki sauce on the rice for us too. The rice, however, was definitely gummy, and not the good rice that has nice flavor, more cheap and flavorless tasting. It was also pretty expensive compared to my local spots, especially since we asked for extra meat and I wouldve liked the meal to not cost over 25 dollars since teriyaki was always meant to be a cheap meal. Oh well. I'd go back for the solid food but there's better priced meals around.

Yelp
One of my favorite chicken Teri sauce and amazing calrose rice I am a regular customer at this delicious restaurant in south seattle.

Yelp
Owner seemed nice. But unfortunately the food was subpar. Chicken katsu dry and extremely thin Rice slightly mushy Dressing on "salad" was I think a watery ranch poured on Top of chopped Roman lettuce Would not recommend

Yelp
Got take out from here and it was a little strange ordering through the window. The food was tasty and tried the short rib plate. They have a pretty big menu so you can try tempura, katsu, domburi or yakisoba along with teriyaki. The line can be long so you can call ahead but sometimes they don't answer the phone because there are so many people waiting in line outside to order.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
I came with a coworker of mine, she recommended me this place for some teriyaki. I say sure, lets go! I came during lunch time and it was actually pretty pack and the line... We should of called ahead of time. That is what normally people do. I usually just stick to the basic chicken teriyaki and that is what I got. I do know Toshio's have couple different location. Because I always drove past the Lynnwood one. They have daily special for Chicken teriyaki for $6.99 but not this location. The price went up a bit but whatever, as long the food is good that's what it matters. Surprisingly, their chicken is really good. Full of flavor and pretty fair portion as well. It comes with a salad but usually they give a lot of sauce on the salad lol. Overall, I would say this is a good chicken teriyaki to try around the area if you are in a mood for it.
google avatar

Richard D.

Yelp
I'm very disappointed with this place. They use to serve such delicious meals. It's hard to understand how this place went south! My teriyaki was terrible the skin was soggy. It was my worst meal I have ever had at Toshio's. Even the Miso soup tasted bad. They no longer have indoor serve and the meals are put in styrofoam containers with steamers away that delicious crispy skin and kills the freshness. Sadly this was my last time coming here. I'm also embarrassed because I brought a friend along who also was very disappointed.

Ev P.

Yelp
I've been going here since I was in high school, and it has been the exact same since. I've steered away once from anything but the chicken teriyaki, and was not happy. So, basically, STICK TO THE CHICKEN TERIYAKI... ask to put the sauce on the rice if you want that (that's how I like it). The way they grill the chicken thigh is so good. Service was fine. I love the Bible quotes handwritten all over the walls as decor. Brings character to your plate, also reminds me to say Grace before eating in, because God is always watching. lol
google avatar

Helen D.

Yelp
Seriously bangin chicken teriyaki. They grill it with the skin on and it's so flavorful and juicy with nice char flavor. This spot is one of the best I've had when it comes to just chicken teriyaki. Definitely an OG spot and they still use an old school cash register.
google avatar

Mei W.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this spot for a long time since it's near my house and I always pass it on the way home. I got the chicken and gyoza combo. The gyoza was yummy and perfectly cooked and the chicken was delicious. I love how they didn't remove the skin. However, the salad dressing was a bit bland and rice was way too soggy. I do want to try their spicy chicken teriyaki to see how it compares to other teriyaki places I've been to since that's what I usually order.

JayeTee R.

Yelp
They are likely the highest-priced teryaki in the area, used to be very busy and good food. Prices for all that they serve is not posted; the proprietor appears not to be very trusting of her employees or customers. I purchased the chicken teriyaki the other day, half of it was dried out and over-cooked, while the rest seem rather raw. All of the food is put in one container, rather than the salad put in a separate one. Plenty of meet, not enugh rice for the protien, and parts of the core of the lettuce was in the salad, which was all lettuse (romaine, my favorite) with exactly 3 small slivers of carrots.

L. V.

Yelp
Ate here for the first time. Ordered chicken teriyaki, beef short ribs and vegetables tempura. The teriyaki sauce is missing a bit more sugar and I feel the meet needed to be grilled a little bit longer then it would be perfectly tender and well charred (maybe even cook the meet in the sauce). I actually enjoyed the skin on the chicken but I know some others would not like that. Veggie tempura was good. I used the salad dressing to add a bit more acidity and sweetness to the teriyaki sauce and that seemed to do the trick. Over all 3/5.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
It's unfair that this teriyaki is so good and far from home. Our local teriyaki is a lot more money and not even close to this quality of flavor. I hope one day you decide to expand because I need this in my life more often!

Yelp
This place is busyyyyyy during dinner. They have setup so they can take orders from the window with a line down the side of the building and waiting around the parking lot. The parking spaces in front of the building are limited and often full because of the limited spaces but there is easy access to street parking along the street in the back. The service is very nice and friendly with smiles all around. They make jokes and are very conversational. They are accommodating to special orders and you can really tell they are trying to move as quickly as they can as a team. The menu is located on the window to the left of the ordering window but they expect you to call in your order before you arrive. Not to say you cannot order from the window but it will definitely be faster if you call first and just pick up. Plus it is cold outside these days so win win for you and them. There are a bunch of different dishes as well as a bunch of combo plates. Combo plates are perfect if you are like me and want to try multiple dishes. I ended up with the chicken teriyaki & beef combo with a side of gyoza. The gyoza comes out a perfect golden brown, perfectly fried and crispy. The chicken teriyaki and beef combo come out juicy and with a medium amount of sauce. If you are a saucy person, definitely order extra. I saw a lot of people doing that. But in my opinion if you want to be able to taste the meat, the amount of sauce that comes with is just fine. Each meal comes with rice and salad. The salad is nothing impressive but you simple teriyaki place salad with a creamy thin dressing. I like it but I noticed others also nix it and just get extra rice. Would I go back again? Definitely. This is a great little teriyaki spot that has a ton of regulars.
google avatar

Yelp
They close at 8, you should let Apple Maps know this. They gotcha down for 9. Great chicken teriyaki. I like it w the skin
google avatar

Britt H.

Yelp
Friendly service by the owner however the chicken teriyaki could've been a little more tastier and with less fatty parts of meat. I wouldn't recommend this place.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
I've been coming to Toshi's since high school for their Chicken Teriyaki. Personally, I think one order can be shared between two people. The portions are decently sized. The chicken is tender and juicy with some skin melting off it. Each order comes with two scoops of rice and salad. You can request for the teriyaki sauce on top of the rice, or on the side. If you want something crunchy, consider ordering the Chicken Katsu! During this COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant is closed for indoor dining, but you can order over the phone or approach the window they have propped open. Toshi's parking lot is small and the restaurant sits next to the I-90 entrance on Rainier, which sees a lot of traffic.
google avatar

William L.

Yelp
I came here after playing a morning of sports and was quite hungry, and Toshio's did not disappoint! It was slightly difficult to figure out how to order, since the doors are closed for covid. We walked around the building and found the (literal) window they were taking and handing out orders from. I got the chicken teriyaki, which came with rice and a side salad. I didn't like all the dressing on the salad - would have been better to have given it on the side, but the salad isn't the point of the meal here. The chicken was very tender and juicy, and the sauce was very tasty. The rice tasted great soaked in the sauce and I easily finished the whole meal. Would come back and try more things on the menu!
google avatar

Patrick C.

Yelp
Toshio is still not open for indoor seating which is a bit of a bummer. The food though, it is the real deal. Hot, fresh, and tasty. Unlike so many gloppy places in Seattle the sauce here is ‍ Would love a tofu option The service is always spot on, and delivered current right at it of a window.

Yelp
Tried this place after a long time seeing it. Tried just the regular Chicken Teriyaki. The staff was just the man and woman, went around 7pm. Wasn't too busy. The food was fresh and hot. The chicken was wonderful. We ate inside the restaurant. Small, but plenty of tables for slowish night. Will be back.

Emily M.

Yelp
Rice was mushy and a bit sour. Chicken was dry and had very little sauce. Gyoza skin was not fully cooked and was doughy. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Keanan F.

Yelp
Ever since Covid, this place is take out only (but has some benches out in front). The food came out really fast, but they only have one person taking orders so it can be a little slow as she walks back and forth to take orders and process your payment, especially if it's busy. Overall though, the food came out fairly quickly since I was the only one there when I ordered. The teriyaki was OK and it comes down to preference. I thought the flavor of the chicken was great, but they leave their skin on and this is the first time I've had teriyaki with the skin on. I prefer it to be skinless so it wasn't my favorite, but overall it was good chicken teriyaki.
google avatar

Andy N.

Yelp
I've learned that Teriyaki is the thing in Seattle. Like Pizza is to New York and Cheesesteaks to Philly. My buddy suggested I visit Toshio's. And damn that was the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had no lie. The service could use a little work but the product itself was top tier. Def never had teriyaki like that back home in Cali. I'd like to do a Teriyaki tour next time I'm back in Seattle. Recommendation: Chicken Teriyaki
google avatar

Mohammed A.

Yelp
Waiter that took our order was very nice. We made a to go order. Service was quick, chicken is amazing and the beef was very yummy too. I ordered a miso soup togo as well and it was very yummy.
google avatar

Jihea S.

Yelp
It was really fast, but it is just okay. I called in for pickup and they said it'd be ready in 10 minutes. I got the chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu. The salad was doused in a thick sauce. It was more like a coleslaw than a salad. The teriyaki chicken was really soft, but there was a layer of skin on some pieces which I'm not used to seeing. It was a little slimy, and I did not enjoy that. Best part was the chicken katsu. It's really hard to go wrong with deep fried chicken though. Will not be back because there are so many better teriyaki shops in Seattle.
google avatar

Celina A.

Yelp
Not a very good experience-- 1st time to try and will not come back. Aside from their not really great Teriyaki (I have had better)the owner was very rude and would not want to go back and support her business. At least I've tried it
google avatar

CJ A.

Yelp
Best teriyaki in Seattle imo. Ordering over the phone is a nightmare and ordering in person can be frustrating too. There is supposed to be a phone order pick up line and an in-person order line. It never works out that way. Just be patient and order their chicken teriyaki with sauce on the rice, shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura you you'll forget about how long you waited.
google avatar

Yelp
Disclaimer: Due to the pandemic, this order was a take-out. Actual in-restaurant experience may vary once the business fully reopens its dining area. Recently, I have been trying to look for some relatively affordable take-out locations in the Mt. Baker area. Having driven past Toshio's every day after classes, I felt that I needed to give it a try. Due to the pandemic, the restaurant was only serving to-go orders, but the staff were extremely friendly and the food came out the door quick. Being a serious Chicken Katsu enjoyer, I decided to try out Toshio's interpretation of the dish. The meal came with a side of rice and salad, and was overall a decent value for the $15 dollar price tag. The chicken itself was quite tasty, but unfortunately ended up being quite dry, with overly crisp ends on either side. While I personally like a crispier version, I feel as though it could have been done better. The rice was also quite tasty, having been smothering in Katsu sauce. However, the salad was woefully average with a overly thick dressing. Overall, my first experience at Toshio's went pretty well, and I will definitely be coming back to their location to try their teriyaki. As such, I think a 4/5 star rating is suitable.

Yelp
Such nice people here! The chicken is so juicy and tender. I ordered a teriyaki plate with a side of tempura shrimp and my tastebuds were definitely satisfied.

Yelp
I really like this place. It has been in business for a long time. This is one of the place that I know that serve skin on the chicken teriyaki. So good but so bad and moist. We usually order that and the short ribs. It's a little bit out of the way for us. But the key is to call in your order and ask for the teriyaki sauce and salad dressing on the side. That way your meal is not all soggy by the time you get home. There's two small parking lot on both side of the building, but don't let that deter you. People usually get their order and go. From my observation, there's a lady that works there, she's very friendly and nice, she seems to remember what customers order. Either they go there a lot or she has a good memory. There's additional charge if you use credit or debit card, the sign is located near the register. They're pretty transparent about it. Overall, I feel the price is pretty reasonable.

Yelp
Solid spot for some tasty teriyaki. When it comes to teriyaki, the formula for success isn't too difficult. Good sauce, a plentiful amount of chicken, and a cheap price will do the job. Toshio's checks all of those boxes for me. One thing to note about their teriyaki though is that they leave the skin on the chicken. I'm not sure if other places do this as I've actually never noticed it until I had it here, and it was good. Personally I thought It gave the chicken a nice extra level of texture. With the current dining restrictions in place, Toshio's makes it super easy and safe to the point where you don't even have to go inside. You can order and pick up food right from their pick up window. It's very safe and definitely appreciated. They also have their own parking lot!

Yelp
This hit the spot right after a morning of hiking. We ordered the chicken teriyaki and gyoza combo ($11) and a bowl of miso soup ($3). Portions of the plates are large! You get a lot of meat. We also tried the beef teriyaki someone else had ordered. The gyoza was decent and the miso soup came BOILING hot and had weird soggy fried tofu in it instead of soft tofu which I'm used to. However, the teriyaki was delicious, tender pieces of meat and rice swimming in sweet teriyaki sauce. We liked the beef better than the chicken, but they were both good! It's a tiny place and was PACKED when we went. Service is rushed and harsh, but to be expected in a lil hole-in-the-wall like this. Limited seating and parking, but good to stop by for an affordable, filling, no-frills bite.

Yelp
Decent teriyaki. Their chicken is tender and has some light skin on it which I love. Lots of salad and tasty dressing. The rice was a bit overcooked today but that's not biggie. Love their deep fried gyoza and shrimp tempura. Sauces that come with it are legit too. The only negative was that they forgot the spicy teriyaki sauce for one of our entrees. (Sad face) Overall a great neighborhood teriyaki place.

Yelp
A local favorite. Love the chicken teriyaki. Chicken is thick and moist, not thin and cardboard-y like some teriyaki places.

Yelp
My co-workers & I made a to-go order. I ordered the Combination- Chicken & Shrimp Tempura. I was given Chicken & Vegetable Tempura instead. That was the soggiest rice I've had from a teriyaki restaurant. The tempura was good but the chicken just tasted okay and slightly soggy. I convinced my co-workers to go here due to my friends hype. You can definitely find a better chicken teriyaki spot.

Yelp
Toshio's Teriyaki is a Southend Classic. It's been around for decades, and has consistently made what I believe is the Chicken Teriyaki the birthplace of teriyaki. AMBIANCE No frills here, but no complaints either. Bus your own table. They keep it clean and offer outdoor seating by the parking lot. The service is always quick and friendly. FOOD Toshio's does teriyaki a little differently from other spots. Their sauce perfectly captures the umami flavor of what teriyaki sauce should be and doesn't stray too salty or sweet. The chicken cuts are always fresh and come piping hot off of a grill rather than a pan or flat top like other teriyaki joints. The large grain rice used absorbs the sauce from the chicken well while not becoming mushy like a short grained rice would. The salad is crisp and the dressing is lighter to cut through the richer flavors of the rice and chicken as opposed to a creamy dressing that would make the dish too heavy. OVERALL Toshio's is THE spot for chicken teriyaki. A dish can be so simple with just three components, but the flavor profiles of the chicken, rice, and salad just seem to work in perfect balance. It's no wonder why this has been so popular for so long.
