On the Grid : Tösse

"This Swedish patisserie was founded in the 1920’s by a woman called Helga. Since then it has been located at the same address. Some of the interior details are original, like the ceiling for example. If you are visiting during February-March you should try the Semla (a sweet bun with whipped cream and almond paste) or Tösse´s famous own version; the Semmelwrap." - 25AH

Pretty relaxed cafe. Some of the pastries were absolutely awesome, one of the best ones that I had so far from many top places. Coffee was decent. Juice was nice too. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor was fun to sit and chit chat over coffee by the side of road watching people and cars crossing.

Review: Charming Bakery with Standout Treats, But Limited Options This quaint bakery offers a few standout items, though the selection is a bit more limited than expected. The Princess Torte was absolutely fantastic—light, flavourful, and beautifully crafted. The prawn open sandwich was also a highlight, generously filled and very tasty. However, the experience was slightly marred by the atmosphere, as several people were working on their laptops and occupying many of the available seats, making it challenging to find a place to sit. The coffee was enjoyable and well-made, though I must admit there are other bakeries in Stockholm with a wider range of offerings. Overall, this bakery is worth a visit for its quality treats, but for a more varied selection, you may find more options elsewhere in the city.

Finding omelettes or Eggs Benedict for breakfast in Stockholm can be challenging. Instead, we opted for pastries at a nearby cafe. The place caught our attention because of the number of people sitting at their outdoor tables, which made us think it must be either popular or one of the few options around. Fortunately, they were able to reheat a ham sandwich for me, while my husband enjoyed a shrimp open sandwich. We also shared an almond cinnamon roll, and the Americano here was impressively strong.

Cute place. About 20 seatings available. Could be cozy if less crowded. The displayed fika options did not look too great, but that saffron bun was amazing. Super soft and moist. The coffee was however not good at all.

Google
My first try of Semla! Love it! It gives me happiness & satisfaction level out of meter!!😁 especially the subtle touch of Cardamom, very unique. Indeed u need to wait for a while to have a seat, but it worth it. Store staffs are warm & nice too. And they have coffee on the house

Tried both semla and semmelwrap and it was amazing. Highly recommended! Not easy to find a seat to sit but good for a take away as well.

Google
Tried their semla today and it was okay, think that the mandelmassa could have been better if you add some crushed almonds in it. Unfortunately this took away the taste experience for me. But other than that it’s definitely worth trying.

Google
A really nice and sweet little bakery. My challenge is to try everyday an other cinnamon or cardamonbun. So this was one of my choices, because of the good Reviews. I've ate a cardamonbun. The dough was fluffy and the cardamon filling was good. Sweet and not to spicy.

Yelp
Good desserts and good coffee. The people working there are also nice. Got a couple desserts on my visit and a cappuccino. The vibe isn't anything too special, but has a nice atmosphere nonetheless. It's a good place to stop in as you explore the city.

Yelp
With Chef Mattias Ljungberg garnering all sorts of notoriety for Mr. Cake one might think Tössebageriet Konditori may have suffered, but based on back-to-back visits it seems as though both spaces have maintained high standards, the former obviously more novel while "Tösse" focuses on traditional Fika served in a classically decorated room. Originally founded in 1920 by Helga Södermark, another Konditori like Vete-Katten built by a female that has grown into an institution with time, Tössebageriet resides at Karlavägen 77 where it has served locals for nearly one hundred years, the menu rare to change save for seasonal items such as the supposed best-in-Stockholm Semla served during the holidays. Open weekdays at 7am and two hours later Saturday or Sunday, seating areas inside and out rarely with an open space during early hours and around lunch, it was shortly after entry that a two-top against the far wall became free, six items plated by a young lady at costs lower than Mr. Cake joined by freely-refillable Coffee and tasting started off by a Cardamom Bun indistinguishable from the one Ljungberg offers at his newer Bakery. Further showing evidence of connections to Mr. Cake with a Doughnut served upright, the name Manadens Bulle used to describe Dough centered by Strawberry Jam, it was only in Tössebageriet's Katalan that quality dropped off, the base too dense and dry beneath only a bit of Raspberries and Frosting. Returning to form with a traditional Tosca, Sugar- shellacked Almonds sliced thin atop buttery Cake, it was in a Budapest Cake packed with Raspberries that Tössebageriet shined brightest, each bite of airy Cream and Meringue slightly different from the one prior while a round Chokladboll was equally heterogenous but densely packed in Oats and Coconut Flakes.

Yelp
Cute bakery! I had the semla, a shrimp salad, and a chocolate mousse dessert. All were tasty but I didn't think anything was knockout exceptional. The place is a little small so finding a seat at one of the few tables might be tough.

Yelp
The best semla in the whole universe. The place is small and always packed. The line for the to go sometimes can be super long but totally worth it. First you took your queue number from the machine next to the door. Second when they call your number, proceed to the cashier to order and pay Third enjoy the best semla in the world! We tried both the classic semla (mini size) and the wrap. I personally prefer the classic semla but the wrap is also great. The bun was well baked. The cream was mild and not sweet while you still get the sweetness from the almond puree. Perfect perfect perfect! The wrap was great as well but the wrap itself just did not go that well with the cream and almond paste (imo). Kinda like a burrito wrap but still so nice. They also have other pastries like the princess cake and budapest roll... But I didnt get to try. Should Definitely be on everyone's stockholm MUST-EAT list :)

Yelp
Cozy little bakery and Café with the famous Semmelwraps. The Café is self service and seats approx. 20 people so you will have to be lucky to get a table. The semmelwrap which was apparently invented by one of Swedens most famous passiers and is his signature creation and only (or at least originally) sold at his Café here. The wrap was for sure delicious (but how could it not be with all the ingredients of a Semla?!) and if you love Semla you should try the different texture and combination of ingredients. The Punschrullar was sweet and moist and had a significant Punsch aroma. The coffee was alright but not excellent. Worth a visit for the wrap experience.

Yelp
Beautiful! I have never have so many cakes in my life until visiting Stockholm in June. Tossebageriet makes beautiful Napoleon cake, and their house blend Earl Grey black tea is fruity and light - perfect to go with something sweet. The cafe is one of White Guide's Cafe 2015. Another Swedish award was also displayed. On a quiet weekday, it is a pleasure to take a seat and soak in the classy ambience of Ostermalm and its patrons. Great people watching. I missed the Selma season (Dec to Easter) but Tosse occasionally make selmawrap for summer, e.g. 10Juni 2015. Maybe best to call ahead of check their Facebook for updates.

Yelp
Came here due to their new innovation "Semmelwrap" and didnt know what to expect. The bakery itself isnt very big, but deliver some high class pastries in every aspect. They have everything from birthday cakes to cinnamon buns and it smells delicious of course. When i came here, it was a line going out of the front door continuing onto the side walk. That was because they just recently released their own version of a classic "Semla" and made it into a wrap. And when i tasted it, i realized why ppl were standing in line to get a piece of it. Its a fun and new way of devouring the Swedish pastry, and i liked it. I will definitely go back if when im up for more sugar treats in the future whether its a "Semla" or not.

Yelp
Only been here for the famous "Semmelwrap" a fusion of a Swedish "fastlagsbulle" with a burrito and it is fantastic! Go around 5.30 on weekdays when it isn't that busy!

Yelp
If I lived in Stockholm and had the pleasure to eat here more often I would likely give this location 5 stars. Service was wonderful. Like a tight NY bagel shop or a busy day on the stock exchange trading floor, hands are waving cash and cards and clerks are busy trying to get fresh baked goods into them. Nice selection of fresh goods. Not an enormous selection (I like knowing they are fresh). We sat outside and the staff bought out our snacks and coffees after a little bit. Nice quite location near a treed walking path. Good for casual people watching while sipping a drink. Would like to eat here again someday.

Yelp
It's ok but far from impressive in any way. I once bought a cake (apple mousse) which was DIVINE, but each time I eat in, I feel a bit robbed of my money to be honest.

Yelp
The princess cake is to die for. My favorite in Stockholm so far. Cardamom bins are just OK. Cappuccinos are excellent.

Yelp
Very famous, nice location. Too much decoration, the essence of cakes is not good enough, not equal to their reputation.

Yelp
I love Tössebageriet. Tössebageriet is quintessentially Swedish, but I love to go there when I want the American "going out for breakfast experience." Maybe it is because they open earlier than most other places do on the weekend. (Its not breakfast if you don't open till 11:00!) or maybe it is because it is a little crowded and pleasantly noisy. Or, maybe it is because their coffee is kept in thermal containers and not burning up on warming plates, and you can get refills! (The thermal containers make their brewed coffee the best I have had in Stockholm so far. Every other cup I have ever had in Stockholm has been burned!) The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because the very first time I went there, I bought a loaf of bread and it tasted a bit stale. Very disappointing. Since then I haven't purchased any more of their loaves of bread, but I have enjoyed delicious and fresh fralla and semlor, so its possible the one bad experience was a one time thing.
