"How about an impressive skate dish with capers, oysters opened behind the seafood counter or a sumptuous seafood platter? This lively bistro serves up wonderfully fresh delicacies from the sea. Despite its lack of pretensions Toucan sur Mer definitely holds its own against the grander restaurants on the coast." - Michelin Inspector

Bright and convivial ambience, high quality seafood menu with diverse options. Classic dishes prepared to perfection. Will be returning for the skate wing with caper sauce! Service is rather brisk, but very attentive and efficient.

It is always a pleasure to eat here. They are friendly the menu is simple the A La carte menu changes a lot and it’s always great. The atmosphere is chic brasserie and when it’s nice out you can smoke a cigar on the street terasse. I love this place. If you’re looking for the meat version, it’s just down the street and it’s just as good. If you’re not sure what to have, the fish and chips is awesome.

A must try when in Brussels for it good sea food and ambience. I personally enjoyed the street view and combination of tastes in each plate. Also their sour bread and butter at the start is not to miss.

This restaurant has no understanding of what gluten is which is concerning. I definitely would recommend for all people avoiding gluten to avoid this place. Also they charge 14 euros for a starter of literally a tin of sardines which have a retail price of 6.80 euros (lol) - I guess the 7.20 euros is the charge for opening the tin and placing it on a plate. The deco is nice though- they use a mix of blues reminding you of the sea.

I love this place , always very kind service. Yesterday they were fully booked and I thought of going there last moment so our reservation was quite late. But they found the way to find us still a very cosy table and accommodate us earlier than was our booking . Food is excellent as well as suggested wine . Big thanks ! Always my place to go for excellent sea food !

The food was great, the service was good as well. Not sure how worth the price was for the experience, however great food and very elegant restaurant. For a 50+ years restaurant it was very nice to eat there.

Totally overpriced for the service and the food they offer. We waited more than 20 min to get our table cleared, while the waiters were moving around to the other tables and not even looking if we need anything. The moules were OK, but not justifying 35 euro and the desert (poire poché) very disappointing, the pistachio ice cream was probably bought in Colruyt and the pear had no flavour.

Yelp
Seafood so fresh and elegant! We had grilled seabream and steamed skate wing both accompanied with garden picked vegetables. So delicious!

Yelp
We dined outside on a surprisingly beautiful evening. Food: Seafood, seafood and more seafood. We started with fish carpaccio and tuna carpaccio. Really well prepared. The mains were skate with capers and the fish special with asparagus. All were absolutely delicious. The food arrived at a good pace. Service: For the dinner it was very good. We had French speakers with us and when they left early, our server sent over another server that spoke English to take the desert order. The loss of a star comes from the long delay to bring the bill after many requests. Overall: Highly recommend.

Yelp
I adore this place! I've been to this restaurant twice now, both times with the BF and his parents. I simply love the simplicity and the freshness of the seafood! The restaurant is simply and elegantly decorated, and it is not a pretentious place. I like to order off of the chalkboard Suggestions menu, as you know it will be fresh and it is what is in season. They also have a chalkboard of Suggested/Featured wine, which are excellent too! At our most recent visit, we had the salmon tartare, tuna tartare, crab fritter and shrimp croquettes as starters. Everything was superb. I had the salmon tartare, it is mixed with ginger and soy sauce. For me, it was a bit too much soy sauce (therefore salty), but the freshness of the fish still came through and I loved it. As main, everyone took something off of the Suggestions menu, except me, I had the fish & chips. I did not realize the fish & chips would be such a big portion with two filet! This is not a typical greasy English fish & chips, rather, it was light and fluffy with just the right amount of batter and perfectly crispy. Toucan Sur Mer serves the fish & chips with a homemade tartare sauce. It was amazing! What I also love about this place is that the waiters/waitresses offer to explain the fishes to you, because the Suggestions chalkboard usually consist of fishes other than your common salmon, tuna, cod...etc. At this visit, we learned about the bonito fish :)

Yelp
Fish and seafood specialist situated in a lovely part of Ixelles on avenue Louis Lepoutre, close to Place Brugmann. The restaurant is famous for its oysters, but whether it be lobster, mussels, skate, sole, cod or any other product, you won't be disappointed. Each and every ingredient is prepared or cooked expertly. A real delight if you are looking to treat yourself to some great seafood. We had crab cake, croquettes and fish soup around the table for starters. We followed up with pan-fried sole, scampi, nems and a portion of fish and chips. Other than finding the batter from the fish & chips a bit thick, everything else was wonderful and we look forward to trying the seafood platter next time round. Seafood is never cheap but when the produce is good it is certainly worth it. Bargain lunch for 16€, starter and main. Outside you'll find colorful terraces for the summer period. Oh, and valet parking is available!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. My father and I had an amazing experience here. We ordered the Toucan plateaux de fruit de mer (sorry if that's not how you say it) and it was incredible. The seafood was all so fresh and delicious. Also, our waitress was great. We felt so bad because we couldn't speak French but she tried her best and was extremely kind. It was absolutely amazing!!

Yelp
High quality food and very nice atmosphere, typical of this neighbourhood in Brussels. Choose high tables if you are 4 people. Lunch usually very nice too. And definitely use their valet parking, don't bother trying and finding a spot on your own: too difficult in that area!

Yelp
Fast service, excellent food. Try the lunch 16€ Price include valet parking !

Yelp
The kitchen closing soon is no reason not to bring ordered fries (and then bring barely cooked ones after being reminded), or to serve a salad without the usual tomatoes and other touches. Without us asking for anything, our waiter told us the salad would be free (because of lack of said ingredients), but then it appeared on our bill anyway. When challenging another waiter (ours had disappeared), she replied aggressively and with a non-explanation ("You ate it you pay it") about it. Hmmm?

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant twice, excellent seafood. The seafood platter was one of the best I have had. 5 for the food and 4 for the service. The space between tables are tight. My BF had steamed cod and salmon tartar both are great. Ill definitely go back.

Yelp
Great service. Amazing, fresh seafood. Where else can you drink champagne outside on a Sunday afternoon and have some of the best moules frites in Brussels?

Arnaud C.

Yelp
A classic for seafood: fresh, friendly and atmospheric! The prettiest counter in Brussels too.

Yelp
I was visiting Brussels for a few days and wandered into this cafe after walking around for quite a bit in the evening. The service was lovely (but be aware the French style of eating is very mellow and slow so start to finish was about 2.5 hours) and the food was phenomenal. I opted for a glass of white that the bartender recommended, which sadly I will never know the name of, and the menu of the day which happened to be carpaccio as a starter followed by chicken with fresh vegetables. Though my particular waitress did not speak English, we managed just fine and she brought me a small cup of gazpacho to begin. Best gazpacho I have ever had, and I didn't even order it, honestly I am still thinking about it 2 days later! The carpaccio was delicious, it came with two huge shavings (more like carvings) of Parmesan, a lovely fennel salad, pine nuts, and avocado creme. I chose for my main dish to have the chicken (filet au cuckoo) which did not disappoint. The skin was crispy, the meat was delicate and juicy and the sauce was creamy yet light and herby at the same time. The vegetables were seasonal and cooked perfectly. For dessert I enjoyed a strawberry crème brûlée/ ice cream thing which was absolutely mind blowing. And, lucky me I got to enjoy a beautiful evening outside (sans rain) while the clouds cleared and the sun set in Brussels. I will say that this establishment has 2 cafes within a block of each other and while I was on my way home I noticed the other one had heaters outside which my choice lacked. That may have been nice but otherwise I don't see the difference between them. If you want a nice French meal in Uccle I would certainly recommend this place, and I am very picky so to me, that's a big deal. The inside was also very cute and picturesque and filled with locals, all in all a fantastic experience and a wonderful end to my time in Brussels.
