Where to Eat and Drink in Delaware Beach Towns

"This traditional Italian deli and market originated in Lewes with a mix of homemade products and imported ingredients. Now there are locations in Rehoboth and Ocean City, Maryland. Stop in for a full meal or grab a hero to go from the counter." - Julekha Dash, Eater Staff

Wow! We go out of our way on vacation every year to go to this restaurant. It’s a very charming spot in Lewes. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is always spot on. They have wonderful wines that you can pair with a meal that you will talk about for weeks. Go with the cheesy bread as an appetizer and you just might cry before your main meal. It’s that good.

Google
Place is great and it can be packed as the dining space is limited. It was just my husband and I and we waited for a table for maybe 20 minutes. The food was delicious. The portions are huge and we were not prepared for it. We ordered the garlic cheese bread and the caesar salad to start and we both got a pasta entree each. The chicken parm was my favorite but everything was very good and we went home with plenty of leftovers.

Google
Only one glitch all evening. One used bread plate accidentally got into the stack delivered to our table. I must compliment them on the food. The food was superb. I came back from Italy only three weeks ago, and this food is delicious, presented beautifully, and wholesome. I’m visiting a friend in this little town and she took me here and I could not be more delighted. Everything was done to perfection. Very little salt, so very much flavor of the natural food. I had the seafood marinara with a kick that was just perfect. The bread was beautifully soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The staff was really attentive and the place is charming

Google
We traveled to Touch of Italy, looking to try out their desserts, and decided to stay for antipasto as well. I had their coffee with my meal and enjoyed their yummy biscotti with my delicious black roast. For antipasto, we had the calamari, Rollatini Di Melazane (rolled eggplant), and Polpette Della Mamma (Mamma's Meatballs). They were all delicious. We took our desserts to go. We got their Italian cookies, their chocolate éclairs and puffs, as well as their ricotta cheesecake. We will be back!

Google

Italiano with roasted red peppers was phenomenal. Fantastic ingredients. The bread is amazing. Touch of Italy is always my go to place when I'm in the area.

Google
Awful customer service. Spent a while trying to find parking and ended up parking 10 minutes away. While trying to park, we called to ask what the wait time was but the employee refused to tell us over the phone. Said we would have to come in person to find out. I explained that we were having a hard time finding parking and didn’t want to walk from a far distance to be told there was a 45 minute to an hour wait. She said she couldn’t say. We walked to the restaurant and was told there was a half hour wait. The food sitting in the glass container to the left didn’t even look fresh or appetizing and the atmosphere was loud and tight. Politely said no thank you and turned around.

Google
Nonna dinner for two. Brisket was SOOO salty. Whoa. Otherwise, pretty good. Alot of food. The bread was best. 1st serving was hot, 2nd, cold. Caesar sald was good. Calamari over cooked. The coating great. Not breadcrumbs. They offered half priced bottle of wine (Sunday?). I would go back for different entrees. One persistent fly was on us, in our face. Oh well. Shoo fly! Didn't understand why our meal came out after other people seated later than us and eating their meal? Forgot to put in the order?

Yelp
Touch of Italy is literally the reason why we moved to Lewes. My husband is obsessed with their pasta and I love their sandwiches. They have a great ambiance inside, and their takeout is always great quality as well! A list of the must have's: -penne vodka (add a chicken cutlet) -Lasagna -Taliano (seriously a must have. You can't have anything like it ANYWHERE else, and it is so delicious!) -Any sandwich -Canolli cake! Keep in mind that they have a smaller dining area not suited for larger parties.

Yelp
The food is great. Having celiac disease poses its challenges, but they have some menu items that are gluten free. You could knock the menu for being small, but I can respect a place that makes a few things well. Staff were great. We ordered a meal that was brought out wrong with pasta instead of gnocchi; and didn't say anything. The waitress was so spot-on that she brought a bowl of gnocchi since she realized the mistake on her own. Very slick! The place is comfortable and roomy. Noise was manageable and you could tell the restaurant was filled with returning customers. I would happily return!

Yelp
Ordered some sandwiches to bring to a boat ride in Lewes. The Italian hoagie/hero was excellent. Lots of complements on the taste. The chicken parm sandwich was also devoured quickly with lots of compliments. Tomato and mozzarella had tasty cheese and heirloom tomatoes. Will definitely return!

Yelp
INCREDIBLE, like we were back home in Manhattan or the Bronx, home of authentic Italian home cooking. All that was missing was saw dust from the floor and the famous candle monument at John's Italian on 2nd and 15th in New York. The food was to die for. This is the real deal in Lewes and all of the beach areas. Every great Italian meal includes meatballs, hence, had to try their meatballs. Now I wish they would take mail orders. The Polpette della Mama, Specialita della Casa meatballs were an incredible tri-meat mix with a healthy dose of old-school love. "Specialita' della Casa" Mamma's Meatballs - Hand-rolled veal, pork, and beef meatballs topped with our original tomato sauce and fresh ricotta. Paired with a glass of Touch of Italy Montepulciano, I could have called it there and gone to heaven. For our next course, we shared the linguine fra diavlo - Linguine with shrimp, clams, mussels, and calamari tossed in a spicy marinara sauce. A delightful mix of seafood with a slight flavor profile kick. Was DELICIOUS!!!! What better way to complement a meal for royalty, a slice of their homemade Ricotta Cheesecake which we took back to our B&B with us. The best meatballs we've had in many years, these stack up with a favorite haunt in Brooklyn and in Guttenburg NJ. Wish we could get this quality of Italian cooking where we live. See our food pics, don't blame us if you drool looking at them.

Yelp
This review is just for the ricotta cheesecake. Maybe I didn't know what to expect for ricotta cheesecake, was not really cheesy at all. But still a very cute spot in a lovely location. I'll definitely try other items next time though.

Yelp
Their pizzas very good and pasta dishes are always consistent. My favorite location is route one Rehoboth. Very nice Italian delicatessen in groceries.

Yelp
This restaurant was amazing great service even though we ordered take out! Food was fresh flavorful! Amazing visit I Will go back!

Kajan J.

Yelp
This place was recommended. The food was prepared quickly and very tasty. The portions were also appreciated. Unfortunately, I did not get photos. I ordered the lasagna and a small caesar salad.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner as we are staying here in Lewis. Authentic Italian food that also has a dessert counter and sells different Italian foods. The pizza had a nice thin crust and was cooked perfectly. The boyfriend had eggplant parmigiana and said it was the best he ever had. Can't go wrong with the chocolate cheesecake either! We will be back.

Yelp
We loved the Focaccia Robiola Deluxe and several varieties of pizza! All fresh and made to order. The Calzone Quattro Formaggi was on the smaller side, a bit flatter than most. Also enjoyed the crisp cannolis and the eclairs were very large. We purchased all for takeout, not enough setting space for a large group.

Yelp
The Chicken Parmesan was delicious and HUGE! And I'm a big fella. Great cookies and other sweet treats to eat that can't be beat. Great service & value also. Ambience was so so.

Yelp
My daughter and I decided to try this place after church and there was not one disappointment, the server was very nice and helpful, the food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was welcoming.

Yelp
If you are in the downtown Lewes area, Touch of Italy is a great option if you are in the mood for high quality Italian food! The restaurant is cozy and everyone on the staff is friendly and helpful. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo and the garlic bread both were phenomenal. Overall, very good experience!

Yelp
We have been here for dinner in the past and have enjoyed it greatly, however, today's experience in the deli ruined our view on this business. We went in today craving a chicken cutlet/fresh mozz/roasted red pepper sandwich. Let me start out with the positive - our sandwich was made insanely fast compared to other lunch spots near by. What wasn't expected was our $22 bill for one sandwich. Looking at the menu, other sandwiches averaged $14-$16, so this is what we anticipated. We didn't complain, paid for the sandwich, and thanked them when we received it. I asked a man at the counter "for future reference (since we planned to return), should we have just ordered the eggplant sandwich and substituted the eggplant for chicken?" (eggplant sandwich is $14 for eggplant cutlet, fresh mozz and roasted red peppers - aka everything we ordered except chicken). We did not ask for money back, simply asked how to order the next time we come. He proceeded to get angry, saying we were trying to get away with a "hack" and that he wouldn't allow that to happen. I was confused, since it was essentially the same sandwich. Adding a $4 upcharge for the chicken would have even been understandable. His attitude towards us was gross and we let him know we would not be returning. We at least hoped for a fantastic sandwich considering the cost, but it was mediocre at best. Chicken and fresh mozz were great, but all of the bread fell apart after one bite. I am all for paying more for good quality food, but this whole experience was unacceptable.

Yelp
Found ourselves back in Lewes this afternoon. Having run around the state park we were famished. We were very warmly welcomed inside and chose our seats by the window. They also have a coil of tables outside yon the sidewalk. Of course there was also a doggy water bowl out front! I chose the Meatball appy and the fried calamari as my entree. The meatballs came out looking oh so good with the dollop of ricotta on top. The marinara sauce was right on key. The 4 nice size meatballs could have used some garlic and salt, but were still good. We were also served some sliced Italian bread. There was live ok on the table so I poured some on the small plate with some grated cheese and salt. The EVOO had a nice flavor to it. My entree came out next, nicely fried little cut circles of calamari. A side of marinara sauce with a note of spicyness accompanied the dish. The calamari was fresh, only thing I would have liked better if it had been bigger rings. Took home about have them appy order. Dessert time: a huge cut of a Napoleon and I requested one of their Baci Cookies to be served with it. The cookie had this wonderful almond flavor and the chocolate it was dipped in was divine! The Napoleon was big enough to feed a family. It came with a steak knife but I totally made "Mishgonbrewl" out of it. Custard was all over it, the top was eaten in pieces but it was really good. The price point even better! I would have enjoyed it more had been half the size same price. The server said their bakery down the street makes these. Would have brought home with me but was going to walk around first. Definitely will visit again, it was a regood meal!

Yelp
Food was delicious and came out quickly during lunch; service could have been more attentive, could definitely tell they have regulars that they pay much more attention to.

Yelp
Their Italian food is always hot and fresh. Served promptly and with a generous portion. Locations in downtown Lewes and Rehoboth off route 1 are both good. Never had a bad meal. Service is good and ambiance gives off Italy vibes.

Yelp
Quality food in a quaint setting. Conveniently located on Second Street in downtown Lewes, which is an adorable place for a weekend getaway. Steps away from the restaurant is the Rehoboth-Lewes canal, which provides a picturesque setting. Food was high quality, and the options were plentiful. I loved reading about the restaurant's history on their website, too. A small chain of only 3 restaurants, it is clear that ownership is committed to providing quality Italian food in an intimate setting.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch with family, which included a pair of somewhat finicky eaters. Families facing a similar ordeal should look no further! A great lunch for everyone followed by a bakery case that IS NOT TO BE MISSED! The meals were all fantastic. We enjoyed several dishes and can recommend the manicotti, spinach ravioli, alfredo, eggplant parmigiana and chicken parmigiana. All were fresh and promptly delivered piping hot. Most entrees are are the larger size (the chicken parm resembled a small pizza). Plus an order of cheesy garlic bread was a real hit and plenty to go around. Service was great! The staff put a table together quickly and our server was efficient and helpful. It's hard not to notice the bakery case full of intriguing items. It would be a huge mistake, and personally disappointing to me, if you didn't have something. We opted for chocolate dipped macaroons, which were a perfect bite. We may have also walked out with several napoleons and a few eclairs for later too.

Yelp
Food is great. Service is excellently. Ambiance? It's very hard to have a conversation when it's crowded, which is always.

Yelp
...Been waiting to try Touch of Italy for awhile, since I checked it out in Lewes and wanted to visit the larger spot in Rehoboth. Nice atmosphere and welcoming. Our waiter Nick, was awesome; personable and explained everything, took his time and was extremely courteous. He made a special point to engage our elderly dad with conversation and patience. The menu is good. I would have liked another seafood option perhaps and maybe a piccata dish (?) but they have a great menu, most all favorites covered. The evening special sounded really good but we opted for "go-to" eggplant parm, chicken parm and a 4-cheese calzone on our first visit. Dad ordered his calzone "crispy" and it was done perfectly! Our parm dishes were excellent and a good portion. The house red wine (montepulciano) was $9/glass and very nice. (full wine/beer/bar menu). The cannoli was absolutely delicious. I am looking forward to my next visit and trying one of the pizzas, sandwiches or whatever special they may be offering. Defiantly a "real" Italian restaurant - an I haven't seen may in this area that can claim that.

Yelp
If you love Italian food, then this is the place to get a delicious dish. I've eaten here a few times and also gotten to go orders and been happy with my meal each time. They also have some delicious bakery items to eat in or to go.

Yelp
This place is a must when in town. Excellent pasta and chicken parm is enormous. Prompt service. Excellent food
google avatar

Yelp
Service and food are both above scale. Very small but comfortable. We make it a point to stop, once or twice a month.

Catherine H.

Yelp
I have never had a bad meal here. It's a favorite when we come to town. The eclair is huge so be hungry or prepared to share

Yelp
Love this place. Food is good and service is also good. The baked goods are worth the trip but the food is delicious and the place smells amazing when you walk in.

Kevin O.

Yelp
The food was very good and the desserts even better. The service was attentive and the ambiance was similar to a small Italian cafe. The meatball sub was excellent!

Andolina, V.

Yelp
My spouse and I dined at Touch of Italy on Jan. 7, 2024. She had Shrimp Scampi which was very good (better than other local restaurants in Lewes or Rehoboth Beach). I had Penne Rigate Alla Bolognese which was excellent -- better than my own homemade meat sauce and comparable to what I grew up with (in an Italian-American family). Bread served with the meal was excellent, and we brought a baguette loaf home, it is authentic Italian bread. For dessert I had sfogliatelle (crispy outer layers of pastry with mildly fruity ricotta-based filling). It was perfect, and better than I remembered from my younger days. Our server was polite, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very pleasant and appropriate for the Italian theme -- a small restaurant which also sold pastries and other specialty foods. It was not too crowded on early Sunday evening, but thankfully not overly noisy. I highly recommend Touch of Italy Lewes, DE for anyone seeking authentic (mostly southern) Italian food served professionally in a pleasant envionment.

Yelp
Picked up pizzas which were delicious. Excellent tomato sauce and top notch cheese. Chewy crust.

Helen H.

Yelp
First time ordering chicken Alfredo and it was delicious!! Great service and a fun atmosphere!
google avatar

John E.

Yelp
The restaurant is small but my wife and I agree it's probably the best Italian food we have ever had. Service was spot on.

Veronica H.

Yelp
Good is so tasty and so many options. Pizza is really delightful and many choices. Great place for cookies and pasta to prepare at home too. Ricotta cookies my favorite here. Sandwiches are also very full and filling. The staff are so friendly and ready to meet your wants and needs. Love the location choices and gnocchi is so good. The sauce choices are also amazing.
google avatar

Mary C L.

Yelp
Touch of Italy in Lewes has the charm of old Italy. The staff is warm and personable. Have enjoyed mainly their pasta dishes which are tasty with large portions. Also their desserts, especially the cheesecake is not to be missed.

Kear M.

Yelp
Family favorite. Kids love the pizza and the meatballs. Vegetarian cousins enjoy the salads. They are big, fresh and colorful. Pastas are superb. If you can afford the calories and fat, gotta try the cream sauces and the carbonara. Desserts look amazing but honestly we haven't ever tried them. Usually too full to order.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Part deli part restaurant that loves its olive oil. Touch of Italy creates meat filled sandwiches on a crusty bread. My sandwich pretty much only had the meat, cheese and the olive oil. It was very large almost enough for two diners. The sandwich was fine but slightly bland. However, Lewes downtown needs a sandwich place like this.
google avatar

Philip C.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Great meatballs. I had the steak Pittsburgh rare. Perfectly done Had dinner with 4 guests. It was perfect.

J S.

Yelp
The food is terrific. Very authentic. service is v good explain dishes what you may or might not like. Cosy so plan if you plan to go at a busy time. Went for lunch.
google avatar

Sherwood B.

Yelp
Suffice to say I have NEVER been disappointed by either of their locations: Downtown Lewes or Coastal Highway. Their garlic bread, stuffed with cheese, is the best as is their tomato sauce.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place by chance and grabbed the last open table which was outside. Given most of the restaurants here serve Sysco frozen food, I was expecting an Olive Garden type meal. Man was I wrong. We had their Italian wedding soup which had fresh chunks of sausage in lieu of the standard meatball. Delicious. I had a fresh mozz w capicola, prosciutto and roasted peppers . One of their numerous delicious sandwiches to order. It was stuffed proper. My wife and the baby split a brick oven pie sans mozz cheese. I'm not a fan of No cheese, but even that was quite tasty. I wish we found a spot earlier in our trip. I would've been back every day I was there. Touch of Italy - In! You hit the spot just right.

Yelp
I was recommended this place while down in Cape Henlopen, and I had to give it a try! The restaurant was a nice little place right in town, and the menu looked pretty good! For an appetizer I got the strawberry walnut salad which was delicious! For my entrée I ordered the gnocchi, but instead of ordering the tomato sauce I got vodka sauce on it. My fiancé ordered the GF gnocchi with the tomato sauce and we tried each other's dish. I couldn't even tell the difference between the GF gnocchi and regular gnocchi which was awesome! The gnocchi was good, however the tomato sauce was definitely better then the vodka sauce. The vodka sauce had too much cream in it, so I was missing a little bit of the taste of the tomato. For dessert we had some cookies which were delicious! As an Italian with roots still in Italy, I'm always a bit tougher on Italian-American food. However, this place was still really good! Not 100% authentic but close!

J F.

Yelp
Excellent thin pizza and service from Lidgia Also, the Italian Cold Cut hero is superb
google avatar

Madison G.

Yelp
This place is a gem in downtown Lewes! While I only got takeout, it was some of the best pizza I've ever tasted. The crust was absolutely perfect - probably the best pizza crust I've ever had! My family who dined in, said everything they had was delicious and fresh. Don't skip out on the desserts - the coconut macarons and cannolis were amazing!!

Tina N.

Yelp
We had a chocolate and regular cream puff, the amaretto cookies and the small rum cake. All very good, I especially like the cake and cookies. Only problem was I ordered and paid for four cookies but only got 3.

Mark W.

Yelp
Temporarily closed due to fire. No word yet on reopening date. Hoping to be back soon.

Yelp
This is an awesome place! Great food nice people. Real authentic meats and cheeses, beautiful pastries, good prices, wood fire pizzas! Worth stopping in! God bless and Buona Fortuna.

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Absolutely unbelievably disgusting. I came here and the service was terrible and the food has gone completely down the drain, so I did not leave a tip. I checked my balance a few days later and there was a tip ILLEGALLY added to my bill!!!! How dishonest can you be!!! Then when I spoke to the nasty GM, he was saying how the servers are so busy and it was a mistake. You don't accidentally add a fucking tip to someone's bill. When I came in that evening there was one other couple there. It was on a Tuesday..... there was no customers.... This was NOT an accident and it is NOT acceptable. My server was Not busy and she maliciously added a tip on ILLEGALLY. the food is disgusting do NOT come here.
google avatar

Diane C.

Yelp
Omg,,,, yummmmmmmmm. Yes, yummmmmmmmmmm. The cheesy garlic bread, the wine, and a huge enough entree, we split it and then split it again( lunch the next day!!!) Don't forget to grab a few cookies for dessert! Love this place,,, solid excellent experience!!!

R P.

Yelp
Fantastic chicken parmesan and egg plant Parmesan. Absolutely love this place. Looking forward to trying other stuff.

Jeanne Ann M.

Yelp
We always enjoy our dinners at Touch of Italy's downtown Lewes restaurant. We don't like the one on Coastal Highway, however. Too loud and crowded.

Yelp
First review for 2021! Ordered take out since they have pasta night. Linguine fra Diavola - covered with different seafood, linguini was al dente and the dish we very tasty Shrimp scampi with spaghetti- with lots of shrimp and cooked perfectly. Will be returning for other dishes for sure
