8 Great Foodie Cities With Michelin Dining & Hotels - AFAR

"Dining at Tour D’argent Tokyo means enjoying a meal beneath chandeliers, lending a classic, theatrical atmosphere to the experience." - AFAR

"The Tokyo location was born from a meeting between the founder of the Hotel New Otani and the owner of the Paris flagship. The original restaurant, established in 1582, is said to be where the fork was first introduced. The legendary ‘Three Emperors Dinner’ at the 1867 Paris Exposition remains a historic milestone. Among the enduring specialities, the Three Emperors- style goose foie gras remains a constant. This stage for haute cuisine continues to foster connections and inspire harmony." - Michelin Inspector

Great concept and beautiful decor with candle lit atmosphere with piano playing. Service was also great. The atmosphere was terrific. They even number each duck that’s been eaten since 1890s. However the duck was abysmal. The duck must have been lifting weights because it was so tough. The leg was like chewing gum. I can see why the Michelin guide has continued to remove a star from this establishment every year. Sadly the quality was not great and I could sense the decline. And it was expensive! $300 per person for that! I would have been better off at a steakhouse elsewhere with that money. Wouldn’t recommend.

Exquisite dining experience. We had lunch here this week, ordering each of the set menus for comparison (Cannes 13,000Y & Monaco 25,000Y). Both were delicious, and unique. Every course was special and the service was excellent, as you would expect from a Michelin Star restaurant. Of the multiple courses, the highlight was the duck. This duck was succulent, had a lightly crispy skin and a rich flavorful meat; probably one of the best duck I’ve had. At the end we had the expresso instead of herbal tea with dessert, a good choice as the flavor was very strong and just what you want in a quality expresso. Overall, depending on what you prefer both menus were delicious but the Cannes would be our choice if we had to choose again, given the large price difference and slight difference in food quality for us.

I would like to use a magnifier, because everything is so small! The food tastes good, but not anywhere worth ¥58,000 (for one person). I left with half empty stomach, the food portion is way too small and variety is not enough. No, I do not recommend this restaurant.

The Le Grand Menu dinner is an epic meal! Le Grand Menu consists of several duck dishes and other non- poultry dishes and ends with a table side presentation of flambeed crepes. This menu was inspired by the famous duck menu at Tour D’Argent in Paris, but with Japanese touches. The service was truly outstanding and the ambience was very formal (but business dress is fine, some attend in formal dress).

We celebrated our honeymoon in Tokyo. We wanted to have a great dining experience and this definitely satisfied us. The entire ambiance, service and food were phenomenal!

Outstanding gastronomy and restaurant interior that was truly mind blowing. The service is impeccable and maître d’hotel and staffs and all amazing ! The general manager is a true friend and gentlemen and he will make sure that your experience stays amazing from beginning to the end ! Of course my recommendation is the duck but I also recommend you to take your aperitif or desert in their salon ! It’s a beautiful on the garden of New Otani ! The wine and champagne 🍾 selection is also excellent !! Definitely recommend you for a special occasion as the menu is very generous! The Chef Renaud AUGIER also has acquired one of the highest ranking of a chef in france ! He is amazing and very kind !

This restaurant is so historic and prestigious that official conventions and champagne makers' parties are held here! If you have a craving for duck, I recommend this restaurant.

Here is one of my favorite French restaurant in Japan. They have gorgeous atmosphere. Generally Japanese French restaurant doesn’t have enough space and each table close to next. However this restaurant has long entrance with wide space of the table. Of course their cuisine is delicious. Their signature menu is Dack. If you order Dack you can get numbering card. Some of customer collect it as good memory. The numbering for Japan started numbering when Syowa empire ate their Dack at HQ.

Yelp
A disappointing experience for the cost. Portions are small in comparison to other Michelin star restaurants we've been too. Were it not for the bread and desserts, we would have come away hungry. I found their famous duck to be undercooked and it made me nauseous afterwards. It was challenging that the menu was presented only in French and Japanese. Staff were hard to understand and it took away from the experience having to rely on Google Translate. I noted when making the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and mentioned it again to staff when we arrived. Yet they didn't do anything for my partner's birthday. This despite tables around us celebrating birth and anniversaries, which were presented with elaborate decorative cakes. Is it a coincidence we are a gay couple and everyone presented with cakes were heterosexual? The ambiance was lovely and the staff gracious. But there a lot of other restaurants were we could have had a more memorable experience for $500z

Yelp
Great situation in the NewOtani hotel complex. Superb view, in front of the japanese garden. The place is 100% true France, so as the dishes. Purely french taste: Homard bleu Foie gras () Sakuradai fish French duck, marco-polo style. TRULY insane French cheese, like in our countryside Chocolate-orange soufflé stunning Cafe with mignardises, for the ending. Service was perfect. Amazing time here, would recommend for anyone who 's wishing a great time.
