Best Bakeries in Austin With Best Pastries | Eater Austin

"The two Austin locations of the French Korean bakery chain (this in Brentwood and the other on Lakeline Boulevard) are your best bet for all sorts of bread (including milky), red bean buns, rich honey toasts, cakes, and more. Takeout and delivery orders can be placed online or in person; there are indoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury

Love the sweets from this store! The sweetness is perfect for me!! Keep making delicious ones with moderate amount of sugar! :)

Google
Bakery located in H-Mart. Honest Opinion: Overpriced, dry cake. However, the presentation of the pastries and service is nice.

Christina Davila

Google
Had good breads and cakes to choose from! Service was great...every item has a good explanation of what the bread is.

Google
It's an overload of delicious baked goods! The chocolate cloud cake with strawberries may be the best thing I've ever eaten! The store and products are laid out beautifully. It's not strictly French, a lot of items have an Asian twist which was actually a pleasant surprise! The only thing lacking was the customer service. They weren't rude just not friendly. Other than that, we will be back to try more incredible items.

Google
Great quick snack after getting groceries. All the good ones sold out before the end of the day. Recommend coming early for the best selections. Cramped and limited seating, it’s good option for grab and go.

Google
The birthday cake I bought was delicious but service in this bakery was very poor. There was a man that for some reason called someone on his phone as he saw me approach the counter to order. After what seemed to be maybe a minute or two talking on his phone, he decided to go to the back and another person showed up to take my order. It was such a weird encounter.

Google
The place is so cute with so many nice items. I bought a birthday cake and it had just the right amount of sweetness! The cake was also pretty , and their packaging is very nice. They provide candle and knife (with matchstick inside)!

Google
The worst chocolate cake I have had. I dont know why they don't put description of cake and it's ingredients on display. I think it's a vegan cake I don't know but definitely not coming back. The Paris Baguette within walking distance is much better. Please try that over this.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! So fluffy and light and creamy, and not overly sweet. A delightful cake and a crowd favorite!!

Yelp
If you're in the mood for pastries and cakes I would highly recommend coming here. Their assortment is vast and enticing. The croquets are amazing as well for a quick snack. Service is on point and due to it being located in an Asian grocery store makes things convenient.

Yelp
I really appreciate that they list every ingredient they n their packaging. I'm mostly vegetarian and this helps with deciding what I can eat. Their cakes and pastries are fresh and delicious. Not too sweet yet just sweet enough
google avatar

Elisabeth M.

Yelp
This will be my new go to place. The cappuccino is made fresh using expresso machines. Their pastry and bred selection includes matcha bread, chocolate dipped waffles, mango cake and many more delights.

Yelp
I came here for their cream filled walnut bread. I love it and it's their specialty. But their service is crap. I asked the lady with short hair and glasses if they accept credit cards. She said "yes" with a cold demeanor. Not sure why but tried inserting my chip card several times and each time it asks me to remove card and I did, she gets impatient and asks me to keep it there. Then she takes my card and puts it on the Apple Pay but it didn't give that tap sound. Don't know why she's so impatient when it's a fault on their end. I was just trying to pay for that bread that I liked so much. I'm not mad but the experience was very off putting. Was gonna buy more stuff but I ended up going to Paris Baguette instead and had a better experience there.

Yelp
Thanks to Susie and the Team at HMarts Tous Les Jours, the baby cake and cloud cake for the baby shower was a hit! Their cakes are so light and fluffy. We won't go anywhere else!

Yelp
Always happy to try new treats when I visit H Mart! Highly recommend the kimchi croquette, blueberry & cream brioche, and honey cheese mochi pancake. Note: It seems better to go earlier in the day when there are more selections available. If you go in the evening, there will be less options to choose from.

Yelp
horrible customer service! i was there to get 15 butter cream loaf breads for the team and asked them to kindly put in a pastry box and they refused to do so...they said they don't have boxes...we asked them what would they put their cake in if we're ordering a cake and they ignored to answer us! this would be our last time here....so many pastries shop around...with that customer service attitudes you...you won't survive long!!! you need a mirror to check your attitudes before serving clients!!!

Yelp
This bakery is locate inside of Hmart and can be serviced either before or after your visit. I stood by the cake counter waiting to be served but no one came so I went to the other side of the bakery and waited in line but there was no one there to service me either even though there were two workers nearby talking to each other. I wasn't even able to get any desserts while I was there because there was no one to help me. Then as I leave, I see two other ladies by the cake counter being served. It was whatever because there were plenty of bakeries nearby so I opted for those instead and no regrets.

Yelp
I have came to order a cake today and I was greeted was a unfriendly rude cashier... I will never order or buy anything from there agin

Yelp
I prefer Three Les Jours and Four Les Jours, but this is about Two Les Jours so let's focus on that. This Bakery has a lot of cool stuff sort of like most corporate Korean bakeries - but the main problem is the price. It's extremely expensive and that's why I can't give it a five-star even though some of their items are probably five star worthy.
google avatar

Yelp
Went to buy a desert and waited to even get acknowledged for about 10 min . So I see in the screen they have a butter pecan latte and when I was finally acknowledged and ordered the butter pecan latte the lately was extremely rude and said we only have what's on the menu up there that's just for pictures so i gave her a confused look and she said I said we don't have that so what would you like I proceeded to say nothing and paid for my desert . She didn't even give me a bag for it she just shooed me away . Terrible experience!!!

Yelp
I have never bought a cake from them before. I usually go to 85C bakery. This cake IS THE BEST CAKE i have ever tasted. Delicious cream. Its light and soft. Not heavy. We finished it in 1 sitting. I love that it's nooot overly sweet. Its perfect! I will ONLY buy cakes from them from now on.

Yelp
Excellent customer service from the owner. He values feedback and strives to make things right which I highly respect. This is in regards to their customized cakes -- which are delicious. Would definitely return!

Yelp
Great place for baked goodies inside H mart in carrolton. We got the sesame roll, cream custard bread and milk bread loaf. Everything was soft and fresh. I'll try out more things if I ever get here earlier in the day.

Yelp
We've gone to this bakery ever since it opened in 2007-2008. Can't believe I never reviewed their products in Yelp! Used to buy every week here. This is a Korean bakery, so their bread/ cakes aren't as sweet as American ones. Love it! Their bread types aren't available elsewhere. I even went to their bakery in Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea. Weird enough, that branch didn't have as many varieties as the one in Carrollton. Our favorite is milk soft bread, it has cream filling that isn't too sweet. Texture is very soft. Price at $2.25 ea we also love butter cream bread. It's $4.50 or $4.25- it's the cream that o love! Light, soft, sweet. The bread itself isn't that impressive. Each time we come we always buy these two types of bread. I love their baby cream puff, they call it baby choux. Sell in a set of 3 Delish morsels. DH likes castella, it has no filling. Just sweet bread, but again not too sweet and I think it's the texture that he loves. Light texture. Now onto the savory ones! They sell croquettes / deep fried bread with curry filling, potato filling. Love their cakes too! Folks can't stop complimenting the cakes I bought here. Over the years, more Asian bakery has popped up around DFW but I must say I sometimes come back here because they sell good products

Yelp
I like the pastries and cakes here! A little pricier than usual but that's never an issue. But what is, is working in customer service. If you're the one behind the counter servicing for the customers. Then it's best to not have an attitude. I understand Saturday was a busy day, but my Sister in law looked up to see who was available and said, "Excuse me, May we get a cake please." And instead of being attentive like the other two lovely ladies, this one girl just rolled her eyes at us. Like what? I'm sorry, what?! We just want a cake! Yet no attitude nor hostile feelings were sent when asking for a cake. Yet you're just going to roll your eyes at us? Uhhh okay. If you really do not like your job then work somewhere else. You can't be mad at the place you work at knowing that it's always going to be busy on the weekend. Management seriously needs to check her. After reading some of the other reviews, I'm starting to wonder if it's the same person whos giving attitude and stone cold looks. Smh.

Yelp
The curry bun is good, but there is not much filling. The bun tastes like a less sweet French toast and the inside has curry. I had better curry buns in LA, but this bakery is convenient and it fills my curry bun cravings. I will be back!

Yelp
DISCRIMINATORY AGAINST MINORITIES AND FALSE ADVERTISING!!!! My husband and I went to this bakery to order a custom birthday cake for our son. When we asked if they had a cake portfolio of their custom cakes, the girl said they didn't, and said if we showed them a picture of the cake design we wanted, they would be able to do it. Another girl walks over with the custom cake portfolio that the first girl said they didn't have!! As we are browsing their portfolio the girl keep mentioning the price being expensive. She was looking at us (Afican-Americans) like we were unable to afford their services when we hadn't even asked about pricing. I told her money was no issue, because it wasn't!! Judging someone based on appearance is discrimination! When we found a cake design from their portfolio that we liked, we asked if it could be red velvet instead of chocolate. They said they are unable to do that and that the cake has to be chocolate. This bakery advertises it can make custom cakes but is unable to make their own design in another flavor! When I asked for a manager, the two girls stood close by with a supposed manager and proceeded to mock me by mimicking me asking for the cake to be made in another flavor. When they noticed I was watching them they came over, gave us a very condescending response and by that point I didn't want the cake made by them. Please beware! Spend your money at another bakery that doesnt lie about what they can make and doesnt assume you can't afford a cake because of appearance.

Yelp
I went specifically to try a few macarons in different flavors. The cakes and slices are so pretty that I went to that case first. The stone faced silent cashier didn't know that I wasn't shopping for cakes and she just stood there. She didn't greet me or acknowledge me. Rude. Once I was ready to choose macaron flavors I stepped over to the younger, friendlier cashier who actually smiles and talks to customers. The coffee macaron did not have a coffee flavor. It was just dense and very sweet. The lemon one actually did have a lemon flavor, I liked it best. The macarons are small, dense, very sweet and hold their shape really well. $2.25 each/small. I didn't try cake but they all looked so good. Stone face cashier lady doesn't match her delicious surroundings.

Yelp
Soooooo good! I got the strawberry filled, chocolate filled, and the cream filled. Each one tasted amazing. Located inside Hmart
google avatar

Sakino T.

Yelp
Often times I feel breads are too dry and baked goods are waaay too sweet in America. I believe breads should be fluffy like a cloud and sweets here only need maaaybe 50% (or less) of sugar they're using. Having that said, I think this bakery is the best one I've ever been to in America. You should try their sandwich bread. It's very fresh and fluffy like I wish I could sleep on it. Also, try their cheese bread and cream puffs by the cashier. I always get them but eat them all on my way back... It's THAT good. I've never tried their cakes because I live 9 hrs away but they all look super good. I wish we had this bakery in where I live.
google avatar

Hoa L.

Yelp
This bakery is inside the H Mart. I had some reservations about buying a cake since its located in a grocery store. However, I was really pleased with the service. Someone came to greet us in English and was very friendly in describing the cakes. The white sponge plus strawberry and whip cream cake came in several different designs. The cake is fresh and beautifully made at a price of $30. It is light and airy with the perfect blend of sweetness and fluffy texture. The fruits on top and inside were fresh and sweet despite it being January. It was a hit with every one of our guests who were pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. I would recommend this bakery to any one looking for good cake. I didn't try any other items except the Madeleines which were not soft enough. But, I just took a trip to Paris so I might not be a good judge of tastiness, only authenticity. :)
google avatar

Allie Y.

Yelp
All their breads and pastries are so nice and fresh! When it comes to pastries, I prefer this place over Mozart. They always keep the baskets nice and full. I used to be addicted to their chocolate croissant and would get them every time I happen to go to H Mart. Oh and If you're used to eating generic sandwich bread, try the Korean sandwich bread out. I think they are made with milk which makes them more soft. They are thicker than the generic bread but it is so good that I eat them on their own!

John L.

Yelp
The butter croissants are a must. Also really love the set up and how you pick what you want at your pace, and very friendly staff- far less stress than your typical cafe pastry experience!
google avatar

Cat N.

Yelp
I love their pastries! they always have the best french like pastries but they're korean?? why do they taste so much french? I like to stare at the cloud cakes on display because please, I couldnt buy a whole cake and eat it all by myself! so I just stand there and stare! I wonder if the cloud cakes would taste like clouds...light and fluffy!

Jamie G.

Yelp
We bought a new year cake and it tastes horrible. I normally like their bread and have bought cake from them before in their Plano location but never have bad experience. This time, this chocolate cake from carollton was OLD and hard and the cream is NOT fresh. The cream is totally different from what they normally use in their bread and cake. It's much more buttery and NOT soft texture. Even my 12 years old who loves chocolate cake would not eat it after trying a piece. Now I recall there were 6 same looking chocolate cake in the fridge and we just walked in to buy one. It may be left over from previous days. I cannot believe they sell such old cake. I have no words to describe the Awkward taste And felt like we wasted $32 on a this thing! We also bought the cream bread. The typical that I buy from their Plano location. We bought both standard cream and mocha cream this time in carollton. We strongly feel like this store try to "cheap out" the customers. The amount of cream is half the normal amount they use in the Plano ones. I hardly tasted any cream between the bread. Will never buy from this location again. If the Plano store goes down hill like the carollton store, we will never comes back!
google avatar

Saavi S.

Yelp
2 years ago I would've given this place 5 stars but it's kind of fallen in the ranks for me now. Don't get me wrong their pastries still taste AMAZING, and I would definitely give the Plano location a 4/5 stars. Every time I've been the bakery has been practically empty on the breads and pastries, no matter the time of day. On top of that Tous Les Jours has a lot of competition from Asian bakeries that have opened, such as 85° and Sweet Hut. Those places taste very similar to Tous and are cheaper, or if they cost the same the portion is bigger. I personally feel like it's not worth coming here if one the baked goods that I want are out of stock and two that I could get it cheaper else where. Again the bakeries and pastries are DELICIOUS, highly recommend their croquettes and milk breads. The place is pricy.
google avatar

Asma S.

Yelp
Sooooooo good. The cakes are really soft and spongey with the lightest filling and fresh fruit. I had the mocha cake most recently and it's to die for. They're also very aesthetically pleasing. Once in a while they will have 40% off a row of cakes in the glass display case which is definitely something to look forward to. In general, $32 is not bad at all for the quality of cake you are getting here. They have a lot of baked pastries and whatnot off to the side if cake isn't for you
google avatar

Sunyoung K.

Yelp
I can't believe how other people like this store's bread. Bread are very dry like Mexican bread.. and cream is not fresh and not tasty. Baker at this store are Mexican I think that's why they make bread their style. It was second time to try this store today and we bought 4 different kind of breads and every single breads are very bad. This is my last try this store. Never try anymore.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
I had customized a number cake for my 20th birthday. The butter creamy they had is fresh and it is not very sweet (love it). The bread part is tasty. And, I was not expecting that the cake was like HUGE next time I will still do my customize cake here.

Yelp
Food: 4 Decor: 4 Service: 3 After we were done grocery shopping, we decided to take a look at the cakes in the bakery. Elizabeth and Loan both recommended the Vanilla Cloud http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UjEbRPOXa7BdUiYcSNGuKw?select=ZtnMn8Ehxo473vsRxY3_8A, so I decided to get that (2.50). It came in a cute little box http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UjEbRPOXa7BdUiYcSNGuKw?userid=2fN8mN7uUjOw-QqtcgYqXQ, and they included a tray so that the slice wouldn't fall over. Taste-wise, it was pretty good, especially given the price.

Yelp
Inside Hmart, Tous Les Jours offers a variety of breads, cakes and other small pastries! I do my groceries a lot at Hmart, so having a bakery right inside makes it super convenient to pick up some yummy snacks! I have to say though... not my favorite bakery. It's pretty pricey compared to 85 C and the bakery inside 99. $2.25 for a bear shaped bread with barely any filling?? I saw that it had red bean inside (which I loove), but I think there was other stuff as well? It tasted like there was a fruit- it was juicy... Unless my tastebuds are just off in the morning. The toast is pricey too at about $3.25 for only HALF a loaf. I do love Asian toast- they make for the best sandwiches, but toast at 85 C and 99 is cheaper and tastes just as good... so I rather go for cheaper. I don't mind picking up a couple items here and there, but I'll probably be doing my bread shopping elsewhere (sorry, but girl's gotta save money).
google avatar

Jamie Y.

Yelp
My favorite place to get pastries and cakes! This Korean bakery is conveniently located in H mart. Their pastries are always freshly made in the morning, and they will have 50% sales section in the morning for the pastries from the day before. I think that's a great deal since we don't usually finish what we buy the same day, it's kinda like having a leftover bread. It actually taste the same for better pricing. The cakes are very soft and the icing is so light! Not too sweet, just light yummy goodness. Also, they are so pretty, you don't even want to cut into it. The price is probably higher than what you get from normal grocery store bakery, but the quality is so much better and aesthetically pleasing. If you buy any cake, they will give you candles (usually they will ask you how many candles you need) and plastic knife (big enough to cut the cake).

Yelp
Tous Les Jours Bakery means "Everyday Bakery." Baked fresh everyday in the traditional French method just with traditional Korean flavors & flair. It's the same with a French-Japanese bakery. It's all baked in the traditional French method but with Japanese flavors & flair. Unlike French-American bakery's that make everything very sweet, this bakery is more like a European bakery, the pastries here are less sweet. I'm not a fan of sweets. I LOVE the Japanese & Korean bakeries bc they are less sweet. I also love the Asian inspired flavors they use, like green tea, red bean, Mochi, & fruit filled cakes. Also their presentations are immaculately flawless perfection. A work of culinary art. Not being a sweet eater my faves here are the super simple things like the croissant, the baguette, the turkey croissant sandwich & the multi grain bread with the pumpkin seeds. The turkey croissant Sammy is freakin amazballs perfect little Sammy. It has turkey, lettuce, tomato, sweet pickles & mayo on a super light perfectly baked croissant. The baguette's come in two sizes. I like the small one. It's just like the baguettes they serve in Paris. Super crispy & flakey on the outside & light, airy, & fluffy on the inside. Must eat the whole thing within 24 hours of purchase or it gets too dry. The multigrain bread is the star here. It's a very small loaf like 8-10 slices of bread loaded with pumpkin seeds. Unfortunately I don't have any pics to load of the multi grain bread bc I slow roasted a pork shoulder yesterday & made cinnamon apple jam last night. This morning hubby decided to make toast with it, then peanut butter & apple jam sandwiches AND pulled pork sandwiches for his extra long day stuck in his office. You will just have to take my word for it. Lol Better still, next time your in Super H mart get some & try it for yourself c'est vraiment magnifique. Bon appétit!

Yelp
This place never disappoints! They have the sweet, the savory, and everything in between. Some of my favorites are the white whip cream cake with fruit, cheese danish and croissants. They have a great selection and their products are always fresh. The location is also super convenient. Go to HMart, hit up Mr. Dumpling for lunch, do some grocery shopping, then hit up Tous Les Jours to cure your sweet tooth on your way out. It's the perfect combination!

Yelp
A Cake Bakery that's Fresh, Tasty, & More The more means terrific customer service is what I received from Tina when she helped me place my custom Turtle cake order. I believe she is also the creative artist of my cake. All the kids luv her talented work, including me the uncle

Joo J.

Yelp
If you haven't tried this bakery, you're missing out! Not only are the bake goods delicious, but their staff is amazing. Their cake has the perfect sweetness. My family loves whip cream cake, and their cakes are the best in town. The cake has the perfect whip cream sweetness, and lightness that it's so dangerous. I seriously can eat the whole cake! Their pastries are amazing too. My favorites are Soboro, castella, red bean and the sesame bread! Don't forget to try their baguette!
google avatar

Kai H.

Yelp
More times than not, I end up with a pastry or two from here as I head out of H-Mart. Great pastries at reasonable prices - I especially like the soboro and custard buns - though the selection can be a little hit or miss. I've also had the opportunity to sample some of their cakes, which are also really good, though not the cheapest. A warning for those that like their pastries and cakes really sweet - you may want to look elsewhere.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Tucked away in a Korean grocery store - this place has the most delicious pastries and breads. If you're in the are. Come. And grab a snack at Mr. Dumpling.
google avatar

Andy P.

Yelp
Their cakes are light and not too sweet. Their bread is made fresh every morning which is amazing! They have one in Austin too and I must say, they have consistency which is vital for any food establishment. Btw, they give you a cake knife and candles for free! Nice little kicker. :)
google avatar

Jeffrey W.

Yelp
The pastries here are wonderful! The only downside is that they stop selling pastries around 8 pm. My favorites are the red bean donut and the fruit/cream pastries, but every pastry I have tried has been good so far. Their espresso tastes a little "off", but maybe that's how Koreans like it because it tastes "off" at every Korean cafe and bakery I have been to. You might be better off grabbing a bubble tea from the place a few feet away from Tous Les Jours. The employees here are always very friendly and will wrap up all of your pastries in separate bags. I haven't had a chance to try their cakes yet because their pastries are so good I always forget they sell cake too. Maybe next time...
google avatar

Sung Y.

Yelp
it's a gloomy, dark, Saturday morning - entire family is still asleep, even the dogs. I wander around the kitchen looking to grab something to eat without having to disturb everyone. And guess what - There it is! It's still there! My beloved chestnut loaf that's usually a must during every weekly visit to H Mart. Bread is soft, full of chestnut morsels, and not too sweet. Ok. Back to bed.

Jwala K.

Yelp
This is the best bakery in town. I love their breads and cakes. It tastes amazing and freshly baked everyday. They write message on the cake for free and also comes with free candles and knife. I would recommend everyone to try their freshly baked breads and cakes.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
I really like their tarts and fruity teas. I don't come here often. Only time I shop is when I really need their daily bread on the way out of Hmart and if I need a small treat to gift to a friend (red bean bun). Other than that, there are plenty of other options in the area. Mozarts is around the corner and Mug&Mouse and another cafe are opening soon. So every direction in this Ktown, you are going to find a bakery with a cafe.
google avatar

Eugene C.

Yelp
This place is a popular chain in korea. The "across the water" success of this place is still up in the air, but the baked goods are still pretty good. When you consider it's a completely separate entity than the rest of H-Mart, you have to forgive, that they don't use the same register system. The coffee I would say isn't the best, but it's still clearly not the worst, also it isn't the main focus of the bakery. My review is on the baked goods alone, and 4 stars is where it stands for me. There is this one roll about the length of one's forearm that has creme in it which is sooooo good. I find myself eating it voraciously, pausing for a moment to realize how ridiculous I must look, only to continue my ridiculousity. Yes, I said it, ridiculousity.

P H.

Yelp
*Mobile Review* Came here for shaved ice. With Elite Yelper: Tiffany D. Decor: 3.5/5 -Plenty of seating -Environment was clean Service: 3/5 -Service was about average. -They forgot to make my friend's Mocha Freeze (else I would have given it 4 stars) Food Presentation: 4/5 Taste: 5/5 -Ice Castle Fruit: comes in two sizes. I picked the smaller size and that was plenty for two people. I can't remember everything in the dessert but it had red bean, strawberries, frozen yogurt (tart) and other fruits. This was delicious and won't put you in a food coma :) I definitely wish this was closer and I want some. Now.

Yelp
I have passed by this so many times. Today though, I was passing by and talking to some guy making samples. I asked him, "what is the healthiest pastry item he has?" He almost said none and then he said something about a cake called Sobacorn or something. I went to see the item and read the label....hmmm. First item is wheat flour, sugar is way down on the list. It looks promising. So I asked if he could make a sample of this too. He gestures to bring it over. I do and thank him. I take a sample and I say...mmm. It doesn't taste too sweet and there's no hydrogenated cream on it. We are in good standing. Then he says to me you are buying it right? I am like...uhh. So I walk around his place and look around and then I have to fess and say, I am not buying it. He let's out this loud "Nooooo!!!". I am thoroughly embarrassed and I introduce myself and get his name, it's Kevin and he is the new owner. He says to me, dude you should buy it, it's only $1.25. I said I will buy it next time when I come by. He says to me, I am going to remember you and gives me the stare. I told him when leaving, you are like the Soup Nazi!
