I had read many reviews about pizza in the New Orleans area, and Tower of Pizza kept coming up. I finally got out to Met-trey to check it out.
The restaurant is an old fashioned neighborhood pizza joint you used to see in old movies with the red and white checkered tablecloths. About 10-12 tables, window to see in the kitchen, and Menus on the wall. Clean. The staff is friendly. It was a slow day, so they were seated when I walked in.
THE FOOD: Looks like pizza, spaghetti & meatballs and salads are the extent of the menu, but I was here to try the PIZZA!!
Disclaimer... I'm from Chicago, it's hard to measure up to perfection, sooooo..
I ordered a medium double sausage, mushroom and black olive pizza. Browned. I ordered double meat because I heard they're kind of skimpy on the toppings. I didn't notice a small, or extra large or family size. Just medium and large. That being said....
The pizza was just OK. Too much dough, bland, and soft crust around the edges. It was browned on top, but the bottom was soft.
The sauce was also bland. The sausage was ok, a little flavor. The olives and mushrooms were skimpy. Didn't get much of a taste of them. One thing I've never seen in a pizza place, they give you tongs to get your slice. Tongs! Difficult pulling a slice out while cutting the cheese with your knife.
It's just OK pizza.
