Seattle’s Town & Country Supermarket Is Launching a Restaurant Chain | Eater Seattle

"As an upscale supermarket chain that's just a touch less elevated than Metropolitan Market or PCC, Town & Country is positioning itself to offer more than groceries by embedding a hospitality brand inside its stores — partnering with Ethan Stowell to bring Field House in using what the chain bills as the city's best ingredients. The Mill Creek store is the first to host Field House, with rapid rollouts planned for Poulsbo and Lakemont and a goal of placing a restaurant at every T&C location by the end of next year." - Harry Cheadle

Expect to pay more at this fabulous market. Fresh and gourmet items abound. Florals, produce, meats, seafood, bakery, and deli. They make a lot of their own sausages, sauces, prepackaged and prepared meals. Pizza ready to take and to bake. In-house restaurant and barbecue. They also offer cooking classes. The staff is as good as the product offerings. Top notch wine, beer, and spirits section. A lot of local items offered throughout.

OMG- what a fantastic store!!! Walking in I was gob smacked with all of the beautiful flowers and super healthy plants outside and right inside. The different sections of goods, bulk goods, beauty care and personal care items, produce, seafood and meats, more than you can imagine! The wine and beer section was vast and the deli and hot/cold bars were any foodies delight. I am a bit of a grocery store fan, loving to look at the different items in stores throughout the world. This store literally had something for everyone. Cooking classes, premade dinners to go, recipe cards with the ingredients in the cooler below, quick bites and longer specialty dishes. A small gift section of mostly mid level house wear type gift items was a nice find as well and very time saving! By far the BEST grocery store I have ever been to.

Google
The grocery store is phenomenal. No gluten free pizza options, but the rest of my family loves it. The deli and salad bar have so many options to choose from. The remodeled area for additional indoor food court seating greatly expanded capacity. We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was easy to find a table.

Google
I was so impressed with Town and Country, very clean and well laid out. They have a great salad bar, all very fresh, and a hot bar with delicious selections. The store has anything you need. I wish this place was close to where I live in Florida!!

Google
Best of the groceries stores. If you are looking for the freshest and high quality this is the place. I like that you can hangout and have a meal.

Google
Love this store. Great produce, meat and everything else I need. It also has a nice restaurant with lots of choices, including pizza and burgers and fries. They have a very good sushi bar and wonderful coffee with great tasting coffee, as well. One stop shopping and then a treat😊

Google
I was surprised to find a bbq restaurant here! I had the smoked bbq brisket sandwich with texmex beans for the side. The brisket sandwich was very good although I did not taste any smoke flavor. (Still Good!) The texmex beans were good also. I will definitely go back and try some other foods from thier menu.

Google
I've been shopping here since they first opened as Central Market. If you need foods for people with dietary restrictions, this is the best place to shop. I love the amazing selection in a wide variety of departments. You will especially want to check out the bulk foods section. They are a fabulous place to stop for a quick lunch. You can pick something up in the deli and eat upstairs or outside. They also have a separate coffee shop. Their take-and-bake pizza is the absolute best. The prices can be on the higher side. You will find more exotic, luxury, and organic foods here than many places. They have proper bathrooms that are well-maintained. Columbia Bank has a branch inside. I've always found the service at this store to be exemplary. The owners are local, and they are very community-minded.

Yelp
Beyond a simple market. Wide range of choices in almost anything you're looking for. Lots of gourmet items and brands you never heard of and might want to try. High quality produce, meats, seafood. Many organic products in every department. I enjoy shopping there - service is super friendly and helpful. Yes, you will spend more here, but it's an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Except for the prices, I love everything about this market. I have been doing the curbside pickup, because of a bad hip that needs to be replaced, for a couple of years now and it is just extraordinary. They get my food order correct. They'll text or call me in advance if there's some issue with something that I want. The butcher will take care of the meat in the way that I like it meaning. For example, if I want ribs, I take the membrane off and cut them into pieces. Or they will take a whole chicken and remove all of the innards and cut them into the pieces that I want, discarding the innards per my request. They bring avocados out for me to touch and feel to make sure they are exactly the ones I want as far as the ripeness goes. They always greet me with a smile and everyone knows my name. I don't shop there as much as I used to because of the prices. However, it is the place that I trust most, particularly with my produce and meat. The customer care is extraordinary, and that is the icing on the cake. They never fail.

Yelp
Huge bright grocery store with plenty of specialty items. Large bulk area, salad bar. Also casual eateries. Prices on groceries were a bit high, but some items were similar or less than my local stores. Ordered a pizza and a chicken sandwich from walk up area. Pizza was very oily and sandwich just okay. Would make better selection next time. Wish it was closer to my home.

Yelp
This review is all about the food in the market. We ordered a plethora of options including a slice of Greek Pizza, Meat Pizza, Philly Cheesesteak, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Macaroni & Cheese and a side of fries. The staff making the 2 sandwiches were on. Not the friendly or instructive about the wait or when to know when the food will be ready or even that our food was ready. The staff making the pizza were perfectly friendly and informative. Loved the cleanliness of the place and market. Now onto the food. Almost everything was absolutely delicious! The only thing I did not care for was the spicy chicken sandwich. I wish I had know what made it spicy was dipping it in a vinegar based hot sauce. This is just be a personal preference though but because of that and the lack of helpfulness of the staff at THAT section I cannot give 5 stars. The pizza was so yummy as well as the Mac and cheese, Philly & fries. Looking forward to going back just to eat!!

Yelp
The price gouging and bad customer service at this place have finally gotten to be too much. I am never shopping here again and I hope this review convinces others that there are other and better options available. I have to start by sarcastically laughing at these corporate "copy and paste" responses to reviews. No one is looking into anything and the T&C leadership team doesn't care about you, their customers. The poor services and exorbitant prices are evidence that it's actually part of their leadership strategy. Firstly, I don't know if I have ever seen a super market that price gouges like this one. Let me be clear, groceries are expensive and inflation is bad. But this place charges across the board 50% to 100% more than other supermarkets for the same products. Go to Safeway, Sprouts, or even Walmart and you will find all of the same products often for half. $6 Di Giorno pizza at Walmart is $12 at T&C. If there was some exclusive and curated products, maybe I would say, okay I'm paying for a premium. I used to go to Whole Foods sometimes in another city for that kind of thing. But these are the same products. For instance, you would think for example that a supermarket that markets themselves as exclusive would have good beer. Their cooler looks like a gas station. It's frankly sad. The prepared food - supposedly the healthy options - are full of additives and corn oil if you actually read the labels. Almost $20 for one of these crap quality prepared meals. I wrote them nicely about that and they didn't even respond. For these prices, how about no dextrose or something like olive oil instead? Apparently what you are paying for is the overpaid and poor service staff. When I was trying to find the yogurt I mentioned the other day, I asked about it and someone left me waiting in the aisle for almost 10 minutes. I would bet a week's salary that when she went into the cooler room, she was just back there waiting for me to leave. You get to be their cashier and bagger for free, too. There are never enough cashiers in the lanes to accommodate the long lines of people. I knew someone who works here and they make a surprisingly high hourly wage for the job, which makes it all the more ironic that whoever does HR seems to choose the most inappropriately groomed and socially awkward group of people you can imagine. I would rather work a little harder at a few other stores than keep paying this terrible supermarket for overpriced products and in return being treated poorly.

Yelp
Let's give this guys a 10 At the food court there we have sweet Genevieve. She's so nice always, the food is wow. Coffee wow. Clean and fresh always

Yelp
Use to love the sushi but now they put a creamy dressing on it . That's not traditional sushi . They also sell poke with mayonnaise on it . Who does that ! Also the salad bar has changed with poor choices of fresh vegetables ,no beet , broccoli or bean salad or a good noodle salad . The restrauant area has no choices anymore for falafel or a garden burger. Not everyone eats meat . Disappointed as I loved the old salad bar . The fresh produce section is great . I also like the Asian & bulk food sections .

Stephen K.

Yelp
If you are Poulsbo stopping at Town & Country market should be one of the things on your list, friendly and inviting staff, fantastic ambience, and every single department had amazing products to offer. I was amazed at how well they were stocked with international foods and fresh product. Look forward to returning and making it one of our goes two stops for everything we wanna cook.

Yelp
BEWARE OF ALYSSA!!!! I was in the Field House restaurant at town and country in Poulsbo this past Wednesday, and I witnessed Alyssa, who seems to be a manager or PIC of some sort, literally go up to a plate of food at a table where the person who ordered the dish had gone to the restroom, and take a French fry, and then licked her fingers. I almost can't believe I'm writing this and I wouldn't have believed this story myself had I not seen it with my own eyes. I made sure to get her name, and I'm going to be reporting it to Field House and Town and Country markets at Poulsbo tonight...horribly unsanitary establishment that might actually improve if Alyssa were to leave. I'm disgusted and will be notifying all of my friends on Poulsbo not to go to this restaurant at Town and Country.

Yelp
This grocery store is a terrible place to shop now. It's a mess and doesn't carry any of the items we loved when it was Central Mkt. It's hard to find things and the staff doesn't know what we're talking about when we ask for help finding something. We used to go out of our way to shop here, now we go out of our way to avoid it.

Tina J.

Yelp
All of you people from this area are so lucky to have a store like this! I am from Denver and there is NOTHING that compares to this. We were just there over the weekend and got depressed that we had to come back to Denver's corporate led options. If you get bummed out by anything, just go to the produce section, and view the displays and the variety and realize that you are really blessed!

Yelp
This is a review of the Silo barbeque. We have been getting barbeque here for 15 years. Always great. Until today. So Over Salty!!! It was almost inedible. Please cut back on the salt . Consider the spices you add as well as the additional salt. Sorry- no more barbeque from here.

Yelp
Love this amazing store. We live about 50m away, so it's our first time to shop here. This huge store is full of hard to find ingredients the section of ready food was packed with locals getting lunch. I bought dinner (tamales, fresh made!). I will def go back ...a lot!

Yelp
The Central Market (T&C) bakery staff created a STUNNING wedding cake for our daughter and her fiance! The entire process was so helpful and easy, and the cake they created is still being talked about! It was a showstopper--and delicious! Li decorated the cake and was so helpful in communicating with me about our daughter's specific vision. The other bakers in the department were also incredibly helpful when I went to pick up the cake. They gave me guidance about how to transport it, and they showed me how to put it all together. I especially appreciated their willingness to wheel the three boxes out to our car on that very hot day! The bakery staff created the cake of our daughter's dreams! We'll be recommending Central Market (T&C) to anyone who wants a beautiful, delicious cake!

Yelp
After a great shopping experience, most in the produce section, we grabbed some barbecue from the barbecue joint just outside the entrance to the store. What a fantastic score that was. We had a brisket sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich. Both were great, and the bun was simply amazing. Seasoning was perfect and just hint of sauce to capture the moist meat. Tried side of potato salad and the Tex Mex beans which were out of this world good. The guys working were friendly and helpful. The outside seating comfortable. Plan to stop again.

Yelp
Central Market, now known as Town & Country, is a mainstay of North Kitsap. They have high quality produce, groceries, seafood, meats, ready to eat foods, home goods, fresh sushi, fresh tortillas, bulk foods/spices/candy etc. Their pizza place and ready to eat foods are super popular. The hot bar area where they can make up a sandwich, wrap, etc has a hidden gem of fish and chips. Do not sleep on this! It's a huge portion and wildly delicious. You can also ask for no slaw (if it's not your thing) and they'll give you extra fries. It's better than most sit down restaurant fish and chip places! Yes, a lot of the prices in the store are higher than a place like Walmart. This mostly has to do with it being different, high quality items. T&C prioritizes local, sustainable, organic, etc . And while I cannot budget to buy household items and food for a family of 6 all at t&c, I appreciate the quality and selection of items. Often, if I'm making a certain recipe and need a niche item, T&C will have it. They also do great sales!

Yelp
Generally I'd say that Central Market is a pretty good store, but after tonight I'm not sure that I'm interested in returning. Grabbed a cheesecake from their bakery tonight as a birthday surprise for someone and went to self checkout where it rang up for almost double what was listed on the shelf for the product. Thought maybe I grabbed the wrong item and asked them to void out the sale while I went to double check. Went back to the bakery and confirmed that I had grabbed the right item, a 32 oz crème brûlée cheesecake that they had listed for $15.99 on a big sign right in front of the cheesecake. Took it back up and tried checking out again figuring that it wouldn't be an issue and someone might help me out. Boy was I wrong! The gentleman who was acting as a backup for the self checkout comes up while the lady running the area is helping me and pulls out his phone to "check the app", the app has the incorrect price as well. Then he starts saying crap about how it's for another size, nope sign says 32 oz, must be for a different flavor because this is a "special flavor", nope the sign specifically states it's the crème brûlée flavor. Finally get tired of the back and forth, handover the cheesecake and tell them they should go read the sign before walking out. I get that price issues happen, that wasn't my problem with the interaction. What upset me was being spoken to like I was some sort of moron who couldn't read instead of the guy just taking the 30 seconds to go read the sign that they have posted in the bakery. It's not that difficult, you don't need to treat a customer like an illiterate child when you could just as easily put in the work to see what might actually be wrong.

Yelp
Nice selection of drinks and desserts but I miss when it was central market because I grew up going there.

Yelp
Do you need some obscure ingredient from Vietnam or Germany? Well the bougie mart has it. Craving sushi? They got that too. Fresh fish? Yep they got it. Makes me feel rich shopping here.
google avatar

Yelp
For years, Central Market pizza was the best pizza in Poulsbo. Unfortunately, the change to Town & Country has meant a change for the worse for the pizza. For meme the crust is always too soft, the sauce has less taste, and the overall quality is not up to the standards of the last 20+ years. The other change is the lack of availability of the once amazing breadsticks. They are no longer available which is very sad. My 4 daughters grew up on Central Market Pizza. When my kids come back to Poulsbo this week we will be ordering our pizza elsewhere. Very sad.

April S.

Yelp
I love the store, except for the fact that they have the poorest meat, and seafood. Got sick from crab, just got home with steaks and they're rancid.

Grinder ..

Yelp
So what idiot thought it was a great idea to turn a great store with character into a generic souless big box store? Fire the idiot and put it back the way it was. Not shopping there again until it's fixed. Might as well go to.Walmart.
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
Excellent seafood selection. A bit costly but worth it. Cheese galore! Very wide variety of cheeses for your home charcuterie.

Laura G.

Yelp
I love the cheese selection at the deli and the soup and salad bars. The produce is high quality. Friendly staff. Beautiful flower bouquets. Love this store!

Yelp
Always a great place to shop for groceries & their deli is to die for even though the store prices are on the higher side. I wish we lived closer after moving post retirement. And for all the old timers out there, I really WISH they'd bring back their giant sized BIG PIG 'sandwich'. Fantastic, BBQ pulled pork cooked on-site, and piled on a huge, custom baked bun. I used to take one home for dinner every Friday and mourned for a year after they stopped making them.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
It's just a really good grocery store. Great produce, good deals, love the bulk section.

Yelp
There's such a variety of fresh seafood, an outstanding deli, it's better than Larry's Market in Seattle used to be. Better than Whole Foods too.

Sandy M.

Yelp
They have a great selection of all kinds of food, especially Asian. The deli is endless...so many things to choose from. The hot foods are delicious. And there's just a great atmosphere. Staff is so friendly. We go there every time we travel to Poulsbo.

Lizette K.

Yelp
This store was ran to the ground as soon as the new owners took over. We used to come frequently over the last 15 years. We loved getting pizza slices and breadsticks for our family for quick lunches or dinners. Last year we only set foot in there once. They replaced the great breadsticks they had with their new "breadsticks" that's just hard sliced up bread. Our kids hate them, we're not going to spend the money on them anymore. We used to love the sushi there as well, it was a great value for how well made they were. As soon as they got rid of the ladies making them and replaced them with the men crew the sushi got tiny and they hiked up the price by $2-$3. No thanks. Now we walk in and they have $20 a plate food place on the side.... No thanks. If I want a $20 plate I sure won't be having that at a grocery store. They also sell over priced pizza competing with their own pizza selling are in front of the cashiers, that's wild. They used to have free soda fountain drink with each food item purchased at the pizza place. They took away all the hot dog options and it's only pizza now. They just removed their soda fountain and drinks are no longer a thing there. This store is so out of touch and has just become a snobby money hungry rip off.

O M G.

Yelp
Great butchers! They are accommodating every time I'm there. They've offered to call me when my cuts are in, they offer to slice my meet for jerky, they package special orders of bones, and they walk out to show me things and answer questions. High praise on the customer service!
google avatar

Aric H.

Yelp
I spent 8 minutes at the deli counter with no less than 10 people ignoring me. This is what we call terrible customer service.

Yelp
Best ever has a lot of unique items from all over the world. Highly recommend this store!!

Sushimoto D.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, I love this supermarket very much indeed. I've been shopping there consistently for nearly 25 years. However, their new extensive remodel is extremely frustrating to long-time shoppers. I'm super disoriented when essentially 90% of the store layout has changed. It is sufficiently annoying that I am considering that it is time to bail and shop at Safeway permanently and buy specialty items online. I feel pretty confident that this complete reorganization of the store is going to backfire spectacularly and result in a place I treasure closing its doors for good. Skyrocketing prices have been an issue for everyone, and Town and Country has some pretty extreme prices on a number of things. Add in this confusing and totally unnecessary complete reorganization of the store and a significant number of shoppers are going to vote with their feet and head elsewhere I fear.

Brooke S.

Yelp
If you want sushi at night and every place is closed, some times you can find some great late night grabs! The employees are very helpful and nice. I love going at night when it's almost empty, it's very relaxing compared to the busy days they get. Also have the best produce selection in the county! 10000/10 Recommend for any needs.

Yelp
I make a trip from Bremerton to Central Market once in a while for things I can't easily find nearby: schmancy local bread flour, golden raspberries in summer, and high falutin' yogurt, to name a few. They have a really great bulk section and their produce section is always fresh and well-stocked, plus their deli has a nice soup/salad bar and a wide selection of pre-made items. I always pick up some faux meat products from their frozen and lunch meat sections as they carry a wide selection. Their standard grocery items are relatively overpriced so I tend to get those elsewhere. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful but I've encountered some grumpy folks (maybe they were just dead inside from working grocery - I've been there myself). The shopping experience here on the weekends does require steeling oneself for the crush of boomers in Arc'teryx fleece jackets, running down mere peons with their carts to get first dibs on the new organic brie shipment, but otherwise I enjoy shopping here on occasion.

Yelp
The worst thing about this market is how it influences my impulse buying. I love their sushi and produce and also buy more than I intended when swinging through the cheese and bakery departments. The service is wonderful. I might move to Kitsap just so I can go here more often!

Angie M.

Yelp
We've been customers for nearly 25 years now. The store is amazing but the pizza, which used to be amazing, is now total crap. This store has always stood for excellence but the recent changes they have made, the pizza is now inedible! Go back to the original recipe. I've heard this from so many others too so I know I'm not alone. They are losing customers.

Waaknee L.

Yelp
I Love Central (Town and Country) Market and I've been a customer for many years... but I have something that's been bothering me and I'm to the point where I have to speak up. I depend on this market to find the freshest, best quality meat, seafood and produce (outside the farmers market), and a wonderful selection of wines, cheeses, breads, dairy and and many hard to find items. This is a local company with amazing and friendly employees and I know they are invested and care about my community. For these reasons I am happy to spend more to shop here. My problem is with the ever growing amount of un-recyclable plastic that they are packaging their deli items, their salads and pre made meals, their fruit and vegetables, their bulk food items and so much more! It's everywhere and it keeps getting worse! I know people like convenience, but this is ridiculous! Please start using biodegradable plastic for these containers! I'm willing to pay a bit more and I know many would be willing to also but, in truth, I think this market could afford the investment. It would be a great marketing strategy because many people are like me and care deeply about the poisoning of our planet with plastic. Until then, I refuse to purchase any food that you insist on packaging in junk plastic that will end up in our landfill forever and ever. Thank You.... Waaknee Lerner

Yelp
I will never shop here again due to be treated rudely as I was checking out with a $24 cake during another visit. I was shouted at across the store to show a receipt. I was 36 weeks pregnant and totally caught off guard by this manager who literally not 5 minutes ago helped me with a problem I had a self-check out. When I called him on the phone to get an apology he said he was "just trying to protect the store" from a pregnant female with a cheap cake? I wonder if he treats the vagrants that come in and steal this way? There was no need for him to shout. He could have politely ask me for a receipt. I'm waddling pregnant and stopped immediately to answer his question and pull out my receipt. He shouted "the payment didn't go through" as I have a receipt in my hand that proves the contrary. I don't like to believe in racial profiling but I'm also a woman of color, that day I had an Afro like style. Other people have mentioned being profiled here. Sadly I think this is the first and only time.

Tayen M.

Yelp
food is mid, service is good. good vibes. workers are sad though, baggers look depressed. not swag management wanda.

Yelp
Central Market was my go-to when first out in my own, living in Poulsbo. I would spend so much time browsing through the interesting and wonderful products throughout the store, and my favorite purchases were always the homemade tortillas, peanut sauce and fresh rolls, bacon garlic dip ,and their amazing pink champagne cake! Fast forward 20 years, and my 3 teenage kiddos and I are on an overnight trip from our home near Portland,to Poulsbo. Our first stop: Central Market! This time, however, the experience was disappointing. My kids, dressed a little "sloppy",in their favorite tattered hoodies, had purchased their favorite homemade tortillas, and some other items at self checkout. As my daughter was scanning her items, she was looking through her pockets for her debit card, and the female cashier rushed toward her, saying "I'll take that",grabbing her hand basket. She stared at my daughter as she finished checking out.She continued this until my daughter walked out of her sight. Later, as I was finishing shopping,my daughter said that she had reached into her pocket for her lip balm, and an associate, again rushed into her personal space, asking "Is there something I can help you with?" We felt both sad and a bit defensive,at the way my daughter was treated. She felt like if perhaps she were an older person, dressed a bit more sharp, that these 2 incidents wouldn't have occurred.
