Loved the food here and that this place is women owned! Lea and Helen gave great recc’s on what to order and the menu items did not disappoint. Got the jive turkey (so good with fried chicken skin and lingonberry), beet salad, and truffle chips. My kids enjoyed the warm pretzels with dip...2 in 1 order so it fed them both. Awesome that so many of the items can be made vegan or gluten free. I’ll be bringing more friends here!

Google
Delicious! I love the impossible burger in whatever form they're serving it (they change it up!) and the caviar chips!!! So so so good!!!

Google
Prepare to be blown away and introduced to something new in Oakland 1) the Truffle Chips (aka Crack chips) and #2) the Onion Dip Impossible Burger (which will have you wondering if there is ever a point to eating a meat patty again) and #3) Thick crust sicilian style Gluten Free pizza that tastes amazing...yes folks, it's possible and chef Rob just nailed it! Get some food, grab a cider and relax in the taproom or on the patio!

Mike Wang

Google
Confused if this was bar food or fine dining. Bc it was damn good. Where do you find truffle chips at a bar? And they have the impossible burger. Omfg it was yummy. And my wife ordered the gluten free pizza for the kids and had a salad. Everyone walked away happy!! Plus we got mochi doughnut holes. They were damn delicious.

Nikki Egenolf

Google
Low-level bar food at its best. Has the opportunity to be good, but the pretzel and pizza were both disappointing. Pretzel was microwaved leaving it tough and chewy. Sad for a $12 item. Maybe a one time thing, but not a great first impression.

Kiho Hong

Google
Truffle chips interesting but pricey. Impossible burger underwhelming. (Beyond patty?) Turkey sandwich with fried chicken skin???

Yelp
The "Coffin Pizza" is simply amazing. Quality ingredients with a delicious crispy crust all cooked to perfection. Service was quick and friendly and the folks were welcoming and accommodating. Love that they have live music as well. A gem in our Oakland community

Yelp
Hesher's Pizza is an interesting environment, and you got to be it's target audience in order to enjoy it. We decided to grab a pie to go and I was not too impress with it, but again, I think it takes the proper audience and hence I left it at 3 stars. Pizza - it's competitive in this area for sure. Hesher serves up some thin crust, so if you like it crispy (almost like flat bread), then this is your place. Sauce tasted pretty standard, and you basically have your typical sauce options. This is the same thing as toppings, so if you like flat bread pizza with make your own options, this place will be for you. Environment - metal, biker, pineball, are all accurate description of the inside. When I went, the mood lighting was red, and the music was blaring from the speaker. Not my type of scene, but again, needs to be the right target audience.

Yelp
I was craving a pizza and the Coffins Choice satisfied all the right taste buds! No complaints, cute packaging, only request maybe to have it a bit more crispy. All in all I will def be recommending Heshers

Yelp
Hesher's is definitely one of my favorite pizza spots in Oakland! They have so many delicious flavor combos or you can create your own; both are delicious! They are always super generous with the toppings and I find the crust to be the perfect thickness for my preference. They have a really good amount of seating inside and I love that they have a stash of games available. It's also a short walk from the water at Jack London Square so it's perfect to take for a picnic!

Yelp
If you are ever visiting Oakland you absolutely need to visit this pizza place! I can say it's hands down the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life and I'm honestly so sad that I don't like closer because I would be eating this weekly. They offer a variety of pizzas and drinks. I got their peach cider which tasted amazing and I cannot stand the taste of alcohol so that's saying something. Once you're done dining they have a small arcade full of pinball machines and a racing game. The staff were super friendly and funny too! Overall 10/10 experience I genuinely cannot wait to visit again!

Yelp
Rounding up for the cool atmosphere and great service. Lots of rock n roll pinball machines and metal decor. The pizza itself was missable and the wait epically long. Convenient location to grab a bite before the show
google avatar

Anand P.

Yelp
Great place to grab some authentic delicious tasting pizza. The menu has some very unique pizza options. I went with the all veggie and the sausage with veggie pizzas. Both were super delish. Tons of beer offerings on tap! They also have a delicious root beer as well. Plenty of seats and the coolest part is the 20 pinball machines they got! If you love pinball, then this is your spot! Music is heavy metal so be sure that's your thang !

Yelp
A few blocks from the Amtrak station in Jack London Square. Great spot for a quick bite to eat if you're traveling the California Corridor. Comfy living room style furniture, laid-back punk/skate/rock kind of theme. The pizzas are different. Their house pizza has a lot of peppers on it. Tasty but very spicy. Nice change of pace.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
This pizza is the best pizza ! A few toppings that are pizzas favorites aren't available here but I must tell ya if you like pizza you're going to love it, Customer quick service and precessional
google avatar

Martin S.

Yelp
Cool, friendly vibe. Got the Zorba pizza. They told us would take 15 minutes, but it took about half an hour, leaving us hungry and cranky that we were late for the show at Yoshi's we were going to afterwards. Pizza was good, but not great and not worth the wait.
google avatar

Nony Rose S.

Yelp
Went in with some friends while visiting Oakland and it was great! The theme was so fun and we got several varieties. It took us a while to decide because all the flavors looked so good! They were able to accommodate some ver happy vegans, vegetarians, and one celiac (gluten free). If I lived in Oakland I would definitely frequent this spot!

Yelp
My partner and I had a great time to grab some pizza and cider on a night we didn't feel like cooking and wanted to hang out with each other. We got in a full game of pool before the pizza even came out, which was exciting because my partner loves to play pool lol. The corner pieces were my favorite (: the middle pieces had a little less structure but no less flavor. Also, the cider was great!! The server was very kind and of course let us try our drinks before we settled on them. Will be back for sure

Yelp
Pizza is amazing and creative flavs! Very addictive. Can't wait to visit storefront! Secret gem in a tough world

Yelp
I stumbled on this place looking for an ATM and was intrigued by the environment. When I entered, people played Warcraft board-type games, pool tables, and pinball machines. I decided to stay and try one of their small pepperoni pizzas and enjoy the games. The food came out quickly, and it was delicious. I decided to play on the pinball machines, and they have an app where you can upload money and play if you don't have coins. I thought keeping their customers engaged in their restaurant was a cool feature. Come check this place out if you want to chill and play and have a bite to eat.

Yelp
Just good solid pizza and friendly staff. The pizza is more of a grandma's style pie (less thick and doughy detroit style) which I liked as it allowed for a good cheese to sauce to dough balance. Well baked, not too oily, and with a nice crispy crust (which was the best part). Also loved the fact that you can get one-hitters (personal sized) at a decent price point without having to commit to $25+ pizzas nowadays from comparable places. Allows you to try more pizza topping combos too. We got the Canadian tuxedo (very interesting) and the Hinterlander and appreciated the amount of toppings and balance for both. Would definitely return to get the Maquahuitl or other interesting combos. Buddy got a couple beers which he enjoyed. Also, staff was real friendly and also understanding with a Grubhub online ordering issue that had delayed getting the order in and out. Even with Grubhub being difficult the staff handled it. As you should expect, the place is metal themed from the decor to the music/movies on loop. Wouldn't hesitate to drop by for a pie again next time!
google avatar

Camille C.

Yelp
Love the whole atmosphere of this place. The on-tap selections are a dream for someone like me who is far more enthusiastic about cider than beer. The pizza is yummy and love that they have so many plant based options! Servers are kind and the game selection is delightfully extensive!

Yelp
So I've been going here since it was Crooked City and it's current incarnation as Hesher's is really tops! The staff here are fantastic and they've been super flexible with pinball as I often go to flip there and last night the team was tops! Also they've got terrific pizzas and a solid mix of beverages whether you want something alcoholic or not. Great spot that's easy to get from transit (BART or ferry) and spacious seating with lots of room for groups as well.
google avatar

Yelp
The pizza is fantastic. The building is freezing and the trivia night is obnoxiously loud on a tile room with block walls making it impossible to hear. So get that wonderful pizza to go
google avatar

Yelp
Best Pizza in Oakland. Friendly Staff. Cool metal bar with pin ball if you are into that.

Yelp
I like saucy pizza, which is why I like Heshers. We were first introduced to the pizza when we used to come to crooked city cider. Now heshers has taken over the whole building in a prime area of Jack London Square. We came at opening time, 12 PM on a rainy Saturday for a friends birthday. Because it is a rainy weekend we had to change our outdoor plans and this is a great location for a large group with dogs who can hang out indoors. Also great because you order at the counter and don't have to deal with a group check mess. We ordered our drinks at the counter, and some people who were able to try small tastings if they were unsure of what to order. Pizza was ordered at the window in the corner and brought out to us according to our numbers. The staff was accommodating to our large group, and we were the only ones there until a Meetup took over the other half of the restaurant with their boardgames. There are also tons of boardgames in the cabinet that you can play and pinball machines in their own separate area, along with the pool table. Great place to keep entertained while enjoying your pizza, beer, wine, cider, kombucha, or nonalcoholic beverage. There is a water station right behind the cashier. There are two unisex restrooms, straight back. They have the little locks that tell you if they are in use or vacant, which is very helpful. They also do some heavy metal concerts here, which my husband was very excited about when he saw the listings for them. While we were there, the music was not very loud so we were able to chat freely. There are metered parking, free parking streets, or it is a walk down from 12th St. BART. They used to have a free Broadway shuttle, I'm not sure if that's still exists Join their social media pages and you'll be informed of special events, concerts, trivia, bingo, and what not. Our vegan friend is very happy that they have a vegan pizza option here. There is something for everyone! You can help bus your tables by taking empty glasses to the front and the rest of the trash area. There are benches in the front that you can hang out at if it's a nice day out.

Yelp
I had the tuxedo pizza it was scrumptious! Such a nice combo of unexpected flavors, I enjoyed every bite! I looked over the menue and there are so many I would like to try and from the taste of the tuxedo I am confident that any other odd sounding combo will be delicious as well...super good! Try it, I'm sure you will enjoy it too.

Yelp
We've had pizza here a few times and it's soooo freaking good. Just go and get it, you won't be disappointed. The guy who makes it (not sure if it the same person every time) is super friendly as well. I can't wait to go back and try more! Their menu is huge, I want to say they easily have over 15 different types. Vegan/vegetarian options too which we have never tried but a great offering to have.
google avatar

Tracy R.

Yelp
Good crust if you like a puffy crust. I don't but everyone else in my family does. Toppings were good. Pepperoni had a nice spiciness to it. Kind of salty but all pizza is. Portions are not huge. I dinged them a star on the sauce... It was really sweet and we didn't care for it.
google avatar

Yelp
This is inside Crooked City Cider and is pretty dang good! There's a good selection of pizza on the menu to please meat lovers, veggie lovers and others that are adventurous! Get here, order pizza, get some Cider, play some games and chill.

Heather A.

Yelp
Ordered pizza from here tonight. Thought it would be good from the reviews + pics online. Pizza is mediocre and the crust is burnt, rendering it disgusting even when dipped in ranch. Couple this with their inconvenient hours, I'd give this place a pass.
google avatar

Jay W.

Yelp
We had Hesher's delivery for the first time this week, loved all three pies we tried, but the Greek was both of our favorites. Old school, in all the best ways, and I'm in love with their sauce! Will definitely be ordering again, soon!

Yelp
I came by here when it was Crooked City Cider and they were having a soft opening. So, I wasn't aware of the name change and change of ownership. They have pizza now, but I was here for a proper cider. The person working there was very nice and recommended some ciders for me to try. He really knew what he was talking about and I appreciated it. I do have to say that since adding the pizza, it has more of a punk-ish kind of vibe, where as the previous crooked city seemed fancier. The people hanging out there weren't the tech-ish professionals that I saw the first time. The crowd was diverse but was more punkish, and this included the guy who helped me. This is why I didn't recognize it. Also, the name sign is confusing. I thought it was a spot called Zerner's. But those are rich people's problems. Bottom line is that I got the cider that I was looking for (two to be exact) and that was fine and dandy by me.

Yelp
- the canadian tuxedo pizza was great. clearly just out of the oven, the blueberries, bacon, and blue cheese complemented each other - great place to hang out with friends. there's games and nice tables with plenty of room to stretch out & share - the music is a little loud (totally understandable with the rock theme), so it makes it harder to chat with the group you're with. this is why i'm giving it a 4 out of 5 - the music matches the aesthetic but really counters the purpose of the space (chatting over pizza and beer with games) - the service was good & the facilities were clean

Yelp
WHEN: Sat @4pm So a group of friends and I were around the corner at Dokkaebier for a birthday when we all got hungry. This brewery only had snacks and Smish Smash was taking forever to set up. We found this pizzeria nearby and ordered 3 pizzas to share among 10 people. Someone ordered online and picked them up. Prices appear to be more online, but menu says $20. Menu also says to add $2.50 to each credit card pizza purchase...so I'm guessing it's only $20 if you pay cash??? Anyway, each Detroit style pizza comes with 8 thick slices. I had one slice of the following: MAQUAHUITL - $20 Hesher's signature pizza. Diced onion, corn, cherry tomato, and serrano peppers finished w/ cotija, cilantro, and tajin. Not every slice had corn but it was still dang delicious! I highly rec this! MORTICIAN - $20 Hesher's all meat pizza that'll satisfy that lust for flesh. Generous amounts of pepperoni, sausage, and bacon while each slice is garnished with the finest, thinnest slices of proscuitto. I appreciate that each slice has 1-2 thin slices of prosciutto. This had such nice flavors from the various meats, and I loved it! Overall really good. I felt that the thickness and amount of toppings equals the amount of carbs (if not more). So you're tasting most of the toppings. And after just 2 slices I was full. Maybe cuz I drank a lot of water. I need to set aside some time to come back. Hesher is better and cheaper than Square Pie Guys and possibly easier to pick up!

Yelp
There are aspects I suppose that don't appeal to everybody in some of the other reviews here, but we shan't dwell on those as even the deviation from particular preferences is small. Good pizza. Tastes like there's cornmeal in the crust maybe; reminds me of Cybelle's from back in the day. Just the cornmeal taste though. Everything else is pretty much not remotely like Cybelle's. Detroit style was the rage a little while back with Square Pie out the box and dominating the marketplace. Now there are others. Hesher's is a pop up in the cider space and if you're down to linger there it's accommodating and you can have hella cider. But not a Zachary's style pizza resto. I get it to go, and for anyone within a 5-mile radius I'd say it could be a regular pizza go-to. If you're outside that radius it's a should try, but given the options you might not drive a half hour here every time you're hankering for some good eats. But maybe you would! Price point is right, ingredients and options are good and plenty, flavor is abundant. Fellow making the pies is chill and works so hard practically a reason in its own right to patronize. Check it out. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
Okay!!! Hesher's Pizza is hands down one of my favorite joints! I love looking for new gluten-free pizza joints around Oakland. X marks the spot. This pizza hits the spot!!! You know they're serious when pizza is the only thing on the menu. No sides! The Mortician Pizza is the truth! Hesher's version of a meat-lovers pizza with three different types of meat. I was too tempted to order the pizza two days in a row. Back to back. I would have justified my feasting by saying I'm still celebrating the Warriors Championship. I'm not going to lie; upon viewing the food photos, I was skeptical of rectangular pizza. Stupid, I know. As a kid then and teacher now, I haven't had too many pleasant experiences with geometry or pizza slices with 90 degree angles. Like I tell my kids, you gotta step out of your comfort zone and your kitchen. Of course after a long week of summer school, I didn't mind putting up 30 bucks to reward myself and my taste buds. Yes!!!! The pizza was large enough to feed two or a really hungry individual like me. Yep, they know how to make a gluten-free pizza. Tender thin crust. So much meat, evenly distributed and melted into the cheese just right. I may be ordering from here once a month. Don't quote me, but I'm excited to explore the menu. Teacher grade: A++

Yelp
Great freakin pizza, staff was family friendly. We came early Sunday morning with an 11 year old and 15 month old. Not for all Christians but this faithful bunch loved our visit. God bless heshers pizza. Thrash on dawgs

Yelp
Nestled inside Crooked City Cider Tap House, Hesher's Pizza is dishing up some primo pizza! Plenty of seating and fun stuff to do inside (arcade games, tabletop games, etc). The worker/owner? was super friendly and we chatted about motorcycles for a bit before I got down to business. I ordered ahead via their website and it was ready in 25 minutes, accurate to their pick-up time suggestions. Prices are low for Bay Area Pizzas (starting in the low 20s) and I was happy with the sizing. I went with a classic pepperoni which I use as a benchmark when trying a new spot. The airy dough and sauce really stood out to me. It has a lovely bake and great flavor....not too heavy either. The pizza menu options are fun and they also sell vegetarian/vegan options. Pair it with a beer flight from Crooked City and you have yourself a winning combo!

James D.

Yelp
Pizza tastes AMAZING! I love the crust here so much. Pizza choices are plentiful and there's a good amount of toppings to pick if you want to make your own. I love the atmosphere here with the metal playing, but that might not be for everyone. There are board games and arcade games available to play as well, which I believe really lend to the welcoming environment. Staff are all lovely and the service is quick. Great place, been here twice already and will absolutely be coming back more.

Yelp
This place is so unique, from the entire ambiance to the pizzas they offer. From outside, it's an unassuming pizza place next to a Starbucks just outside Jack London Square. Once you get inside you're greeted with an intense, very red, heavy metal atmosphere that really sets it apart from other places. Before getting into the food, just wanna shout out the pool table, retro arcade machines, and selection of board games they have. Definitely a great spot to bring some friends to for a hell of a time. I ordered the one-hitter of the Reverend Bizarre. First time trying Szechuan pepper on a pizza and honestly it's one of the best topping I've ever had on a pizza. If I wasn't driving, I would've had a couple IPAs to go with it, the citrusy accent of the peppers + hoppiness of IPAs would've been a knockout combo. They also have some bacon and honey drizzled on top for the perfect balance of sweet + savory. If we're talking about the fundamentals, cheese was nice and gooey, didn't skimp on the marinara, and the crust was nice and crispy. Their pizzas definitely lean more towards a pie in case you're not a fan of that, but hey, they might change your mind! Ended up staying for a few hours playing board games, staff was also super nice even across rotations. Weird compliment but their bathroom is also really cool. They also provide complimentary condoms haha. Can't wait to come back here, and I'm definitely not driving next time haha

Yelp
Somehow, the pop-up pizza has taken over the cider bar?!?! What a turn of events, but also how awesome is this! IDK is this Detroit style pan pizza or something? Doesn't matter since it tastes awesome. Chewy crust, delish (tho once in a while a bit undercooked). The psychedelic combinations of toppings & band names makes no logical sense at all but tastes great. And having Crooked City Cider attached (tho maybe no longer in name?) means the best selection of beverages a pizza joint could ask for. Ambience: pinball machines! Big table! Wait, a toybox for the kids???

ann h.

Yelp
Their pizzas are awesome. My son (18), his Dad and I love their pizzas. My son and I (58f) like their music and pinball machines. My husband is 'eh on the music, but he only likes Mozart on period instruments. We end up getting 3 different personal sizes because our choices are very different. It's amazing they make their full menu's options for the size we order.
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
Some of the best Pizza I've had in Oakland. Sauce had great flavor, and crust had the perfect amount of crunch. Space is cool and staff provided great service.
google avatar

Courtney V.

Yelp
Great food and beer, excellent staff and service and fun vibe. As a bonus my 3-year-old had a blast waiting for trains to go by our outdoor table. Went on a nice JLS stroll afterward, 10/10.

Patrick S.

Yelp
My wife and I recently came here with seven 14-year-old boys for a birthday party. The kids had a blast, playing pinball and pool, and the pizza was great. But the best part was that the guys working there were just as cool and as patient as you could be with a posse of young boys invading your establishment. Keenan was great and so were his coworkers, and they made sure my son and his buddies had a blast. And I had fun too! Cool spot, can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Man this pizza was so good! Pepperoni, pineapple, bacon, garlic and jalapeños! Definitely recommend if in the area. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
If you love good music, cold beer and great pizza this is the place! The staff were great and recommended a couple pizzas that were amazing! I totally recommend the pizza with honey. Delicious. Great find on our vacation.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. Rocker vibe. Hella good pizza and awesome Cider. And they hosted a show too for Trencher. A must stop if you love pizza and a cool vibe.
google avatar

Jude D.

Yelp
Got to try this pizza when I stopped in crooked city cider for a drink. I had the smaller pizza which I gotta say is huge for a "personal pizza" and definitely worth the money. I did the signature hesh law pizza that was kinda like a supreme but with Serrano peppers and Kalamata olives. I slammed that shit, it was so good. Also don't underestimate those peppers cause they were super spicy. I put red pepper flakes on it too and it made me break a sweat! (Which I loved cause I love hot shit). Definitely a great meal with some bomb af cider!
google avatar

Trevor W.

Yelp
Hands down top 5 pizza places I've ever been too. I've had pizza and 16 states and 11 countries. This place does it right. I got sausage and mushroom with extra cheese. Try it. You will not be disappointed.
google avatar

A A.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for a gimick and the heavy metal theme was worth giving the pizza a shot. Unfortunately the cheese pizza was unremarkable. I like to get a simple pizza first to test the fundamentals and unfortunately it was bland. Not much cheese, crust was average. They do specialty pizzas and maybe when the base has a half dozen toppings it could be better. But I'm usually a fan of well executed, simple pizza
google avatar

Dettre G.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza place! They have hard cider and pinball and vegan and gluten-free options. The tomato sauce is some of the best I've ever had. All around good hang. Staff is personable and takes their product seriously. Love everything about this place...I will be back!
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Pizza is hard. Vegan pizza is even harder. These guys nailed it. I can't stop coming here. The menu is fun, flavorful and exciting. It has something for everyone with unapologetic flavors like The Altar of Madness lovingly described as "a butthole rodeo" for the hot heads. I enjoyed a vegan version of the Greek style Zorba with Kalamata olives, pine nuts, tomato and basil and of course vegan cheese (the brand they use is exceptional and you can't find it in stores). Everything was super fresh, flavorful, crispy and moist thin crust (there's a also gluten-free option). And the cheeze tasted and felt like cheese--gooey, stringy, all the umami flavor. The best part--they'll make a vegan version of just about any pie on the menu. I'm now a fanatic and must ration my visits to this place. Vegan Pizza

Yelp
Tasty pizza (even though all three of our pizzas were incorrect - ha!) Customizable. Two perfect size options. Great crust. Friendly staff.
