The 12 Best Restaurants In Beacon, New York 2024

"Towne Crier Cafe does a ton of live music, whether that’s local singer-songwriters at night or jazz quartets during Sunday brunch. You can sit on a couch or at the bar and enjoy a drink, or have a meal at a table and wait for the entertainment to begin from one of the two stages. Dig into a hearty burger made with a mix of brisket, short rib, and angus as you listen to the open mic on Thursday nights. You may even see somebody famous (or sort of famous) perform—legend has it that Kevin Bacon has stopped by." - anne cruz

The food was good and the live music was very comforting for a lovely Memorial Day brunch. I haven’t been to Beacon in about 27 years but this experience made it worth it to come back. I definitely need to come back here for a live performance sometime.

Great music. Good food. Nice atmosphere and service.

Google
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to so far. The customer service was exceptional. They were friendly with my kids and made the experience worth the visit. There’s is a lot going on in this world and it’s refreshing to be surrounded by friendly and accepting people. Definitely recommend!

I grew up in Miami. One of my favorite cuban establishments there is Latin Cafe 2000 on 49th street in Hialeah. t They, like many other shops in Hialeah and Miami, have fantastic cuban sandwiches. Many establishments here in NY tout "our unique cuban sandwich" and they're often ok, but not the guaranteed excellence you get in South Florisa. Regardless, i can tell you, if you want a classic cuban sandwich on the elevated level of the shops in Hialeah, Town Crier in Beacon NY has nailed it. Fantastic sandwich, great service, and diner satisfaction. The live music and history of Pete Seeger in the establishment don't hurt either. Go. Enjoy.

Google
Food was really good. Atmosphere is very nice, we enjoyed the performances. We only had an incident because they don’t have Apple Pay as an option however the staff was really kind.

I purchased tickets to see a show with dinner reservations. We were seated at a table for two, our waitress was attentive and took our drink and appetizer order. The drinks were made well and the food was just as good. The room was a little wider than deep and was set up with tables to seat two, four or six people. We sat near the rear but every seat had a good view of the stage. We saw the Led Zeppelin tribute band “The Prezence”. The band was excellent and we had a great night. As soon as we see another band we like we will be back.

Google
This was my 1st visit to The Towne Crier Cafe. What actually brought me here was to see my friend, who is a band member of Satisfaction/ The International Rolling Stones Show. To review just one aspect of this place would be disrespectful. it is a working team, from Fredy at the bar to a young girl (I didn't get her name, but she had a beautiful blouse on) who showed me to my table. my server Ryan, and the young man who delivered my meal. Thank you for a very 1st enjoyable visit. I ordered the Blackened Catfish with Adirondack fries, and it's so good. Cooked just right for me. To Management, you have a Good Team.

Yelp
The Music! Small, intimate setting, no crowds. Old fashioned sit down meal, food - I wasn't paying attention, as the slide guitarist was so amazing! They get the best performers to come in, and if lucky, top artist is playing, on one of those nights. Check their website. A Bar area- up front away from music, also sitting in back if there for dining not the astoundingly brilliant musicians. Been to 4-5 - never been less than blown away by their talent. You love music, go! Again look at website as they book all types of talent, as well as giving time to "retro bands" - something I skip, as the real players explain what happens as they play their Lucille.

Yelp
Food Is expensive for the quality. Eat before you go and just order coffee or dessert. I only go if a dear friend is performing. Otherwise not worth spending my money.Waiter was great but the manager is concerned with how much money you're going to spend. I have no issue spending money on dining out just don't be rude about and act like you're doing me a favor seating me. I once saw a cock roach in the urinal. Feel free to read the numerous reviews on Yelp with similar experiences. Fortunately, Beacon has numerous restaurants that have great food. I edited this review after research and raised my rating. Managers response proves my point regarding his attitude.

Yelp
Food was amazing, server was upbeat and attentive. Only issue was a small error where we got wrong appetizer and then never received the one we wanted . They said they would correct it but failed to do so. We were charged however for the appetizer which was a little disappointing. The show we attended was far beyond expectations. Overall would return, a wonderful night out.

Yelp
Love this place, Food is always good, never misses. Personally love the night life here. There's always something going on like live music or a comedy show etc etc. Medium priced but well worth it. Open late for some good drinks with a lovely bar. Close walking distance to a ton of other spots as well with a huge parking lot in the back.

Yelp
Food was great and so was the entertainment but didn't appreciate the staff at the door for giving everyone a hard time. Maybe not make the situation more complicated than it has to be. This place has potential if it wasn't for the poor attitude and service of what I'm assuming is the manager of the place.

Yelp
Great service, live music and breakfast items were delicious! All around good vibes. Highly recommend

Yelp
Great food and fun entertainment! I came with a party of five and when we were making our reservation they informed us that there would be live music's! They also asked if we wanted to seat that was more quiet or that was closer to the music which is what I thought was very courteous. The server was very kind and so was the management. I split a hummus appetizer which came with two large slices of pita. It was very tasty. For my main dish I ordered the chicken wings off of the starters however it was plenty for a main meal. it was very saucy and also delicious. I had a great experience and would definitely be a repeat customer!

Yelp
So I've eaten at this restaurant a few times over the years and I've never had an issue until today. So I went out and I got my usual blueberry margarita with me and my boyfriend to start off I come back from the restroom and I start sipping the margarita through that tiny straw stir thing. And I know I asked for a salted rim, but my drink itself was extremely salty. When the waitress came back and I had asked her for a different drink, she looked at me like I had 10 heads and gave me the biggest attitude like I was incompetent . All I was asking for was it different drink and I barely touched the one that I had so she goes on pointing out that I asked for salted rim and then my boyfriend chimes in and said it's not the rim it's the drink itself that's super salty and for some reason, she calms down when he starts talking to her and asks me if I want a different drink. At that point, I said no, I felt very uncomfortable and I felt very unwelcome. She takes a drink and she says that her manager wouldn't be able to comp the drink and I said OK. Reason why I'm pointing this out is because they were only open for about an hour and a half before me and my boyfriend made our way to the restaurant and in my opinion if you can't handle people if you can't do customer service maybe the restaurant industry isn't for you... besides this horrible waitress the food was great The mushroom ravioli was on point. Those tater tot appetizers were flavorful and amazing and the sandwich my boyfriend had got he said was the bomb.

Yelp
We have been to this venue twice within last month for live music. Once we had a dinner seating - towards the front. The service was very good considering they were feeding a sold out room in a tight time window. The food and drinks were decent The second time we just reserved a seat without a dinner - and sat a little further back- which was more spacious with good sight lines. The owner - Phil is a pro who has been at it 50 years .... Doing a great job !!

Yelp
Great music, just buy a drank, or eat an easy meal, such talented people play here, you're lucky you get as much or as little good drink and food! Open bar area, sitting area in front, larger quiet area in back, for larger groups. Can look up their ever changing list of talented musicians. Have gone in a while, but every time I walk by, think, that is an incredible place to hear people who love to play, and enjoy an evening out. Great experience every time, every guitarists, Musicians, an incredible pleasure to hear after a fine meal.

Yelp
It's a nice cozy place with friendly staff, but the food seems to be designed for people who don't much like flavor. The french fries are pretty good, so I would maybe go there for a drink and snacks, not an actual meal.

Yelp
Solid 3.5 stars - This was my first time here and I've heard good things. The restaurant is decorated nicely and feels very spacious. A big pull is the live music, which I missed out on. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The food is fairly average, slightly greasy but that's expected from pub style food. We had the appetizer special of chorizo queso. Entrees were the Cuban panini (fries were great), Caesar salad with grilled chicken (only downside is the chicken was pre seasoned with pesto which the person eating didn't enjoy), and the penne with artichoke hearts entree. Maybe slightly overpriced but comparable in price to other restaurants in the area.

Yelp
This place has serious cred! While I haven't yet seen a show at Towne Crier, it's on my list of things to do because the space is very impressive. There's a room in the front for more intimate acoustic shows and a huge stage/space for the bigger shows. I love sitting at the bar because it's spacious and affords good views of the sidewalk action, while also allowing a relaxed vibe if you want to hear the live music, but not be right the thick of it. They have a good selection of wines and cocktails and while I haven't eaten here yet, there are some decent vegan options on the menu. We appreciate how nice the staff and owner are (he was really informative about the Hudson Valley music scene when my husband made an inquiry). Towne Crier has been around (on) the block for decades now, but it's obvious the folks behind it have a deep appreciation for musicians. I can't wait to see a show in the future, but in the. meantime, I'll keep coming back to the bar and to a glimpse of the chill acoustic acts.

Yelp
I had the best sampler Taste of the Middle East. It was the best Falafel, fluffy and delicious with herbs, and the Hummus and Baba Ganouj were perfect- even the whole wheat pita was special especially with the the Tunisian salad. I've been searching for delicious Middle Eastern food and, to my surprise, it was the piece de resistance to a fabulous music show. I highly recommend the music and food BTW, my friends loved their lamb burgers

Athina L.

Yelp
Another great night at the Towne crier cafe. Phil, the owner, is always so warm and welcoming. Music was great. We enjoyed our tater kegs; and I also had the Mediterranean platter. They were out of the baba ganoush-but there was plenty of hummus and falafel. We feel so grateful to have this amazing place just 10 minutes from home.

Yelp
WOW- Words can not express how bitterly rude GREG, the GM is there. Last night we attended a small gathering for a birthday party. (I've been here plenty of times, I am a local) TO GET THE POINT ACROSS: There rule is you MUST order at least 2 appetizers or 1 entree' on nights that bands are playing PER PERSON if you book prior. ... If you are a walk in this rule does not apply. "Apparently" this was said to the person who booked our table. I've never had this happens before. I've been plenty of times when bands are playing and have ordered drinks and 1 app. There's nothing on the website about this. I do understand that they are trying to make a buck during these uncertain times. When I called Greg the manger he talked over me.... he had already knew what the complaint was going to be.... which means they have got this complaint before. Last thing word for word the waitress said to me "If you don't order a second app then I'll get fired" I can not believe that they have a rule like that. It's so wishy washy and not stated ANYWHERE that a minimum of 2 apps PER PERSON or ONE full dinner if you want to come in. Sides also don't count as apps ?? Either. I was forced into getting a flatbread pizza $16 and a $14 goats cheese salad with canned beats and no goats cheese. BTW the salad was TO GO because I wasn't even hungry for it!!! - it's obviously is a complaint that must be consistent there because Greg knew right away what the complaint was going to be and I didn't even get to express my experience.... Greg should be happy that we had a $500 dollar bill and should be begging us to come back ??? I wouldn't be returning for quite some time. I've been here with family members so many times and it's SAD to see how poor this place is ran over covid. Just passing the word on!! I give it fairly a two star for the horrible experience that I had. Here's a pic of my canned beats salad to go and pizza flat breads .

Yelp
Catch a fun show but look them up first to see what's on deck. Waitress was super friendly as was the rest of the staff. Espresso martini was tasty as well.

Yelp
Great venue and food. The Wild Mushroom Ravioli was excellent, as was the unique Sour Cream Plum Coffee Cake.

Yelp
we had dinner reservations somewhere else and just stopped in for a drink. super comfortable place with a cozy family friends vibe, there was a band which was very good. i'd definitely go back for dinner. we tried to stop back for a cocktail after dinner and was surprised they were closed so early in a saturday night but we went to the vinyl room instead which was great as well

Yelp
I've been going to the Towne Crier for years. It only gets better! First, top music groups with an excellent sound system on a raised stage. 2nd, a solid proven menu of dinners and appetizers. This weekend I had Jambalaya, reviving memories of Louisiana! My dining friend enjoyed the Mahi Mahi and her favorite, Phil's Baba Ghanouj. 3rd, desserts, I had strawberry/rhubarb pie freshly baked in the TC ovens, with vanilla ice cream. The owner's wife is a top-class pastry chef. As a bonus, the diversely stocked bar had Founders Porter! The band, Hot Club Of Cowtown returns, and fiddler, Elana James, brought her new dog, the fluffy white Lupa. Lupa has taken over the duties of Eva who sadly left us. Seeing Elana on stage playing with Eva lying on the stage was iconic.

Yelp
WORST experience Ever. Do not bother coming here. We came here for Mother's Day and waited over 2 hrs to get food. The restaurant was NOT crowded. They were just really bad at service. Worst Mother's Day ever. Do not come here. The food is sub par. A $10 mimosa was quarter of a glass after waiting for over 2 hrs. Beyond ridiculous. Do not come. No free drink or apology of any kind. Every other table got their food so if it was a mistake they clearly are not trained to deal with it properly.

Yelp
We had to let you know your Mardi Gras party last night Feb 9 2024, was a 5 star experience for me and my guests. Your staff was accommodating, getting my guests comfortably seated at our table, the waiters were attentive, informative, and definitely hard working. The food and beverages were enjoyable and the music was right out of New Orleans. We danced to it all night long. No reason at all not to return. Thank you.

Yelp
Well the music is what brought us here. The service was awful. Not my first time here. Maybe just an off night for our waitress? So we order drinks apps and dinner all at the same time. Our waitress brought out our drinks first. Mine was wrong not what I ordered. A busboy bright out apps. I ordered wings with the spicy bbq sauce and asked for crispy wings. They were rubbery. The sauce was very good thou. I asked the busboy for more water and he never returned with it. I am watching our waitress waiting on other tables around us. She never came over to check on the apps or drinks. Now our drinks are gone and water is still empty. So I got up with our water bottle and went to the kitchen with it. Another waitress got us more water and brought it out to us. The same busboy brought our dinner out to us and we still had our appetizers dishes on our table. A very small table. So we swapped dishes with him and asked to see our waitress . She never showed. The dinner was very good. I had the seared Ahi tuna. And my wife had a beet salad with shrimp. Both were excellent. We were both hoping to have another drink while watching the show. But that did not happen. So we are done with dinner for at least 25 minutes, And our plates are still in front of us. Her other tables are done with there dessert and have coffee or drink.‍ She finally come close enough to get her attention. I stood up and handed her our plates. She finally asked us if we needed anything. I just got more water. Too bad for her I am a very generous tipper.

Yelp
I must admit that I was a little disappointed. My pancakes were a bit overdone and the service was slow. However, it's a beautiful day and Beacon is very pleasant. We

Yelp
Thanks to Phil and Greg for another great night! We hosted my son and gf. Your hospitality, the musicians (Jerry Lee, Tara O'Grady), the food, the service (Ryan) ... all terrific! Bravo! Mike in Orange

Yelp
I was super impressed by this place. We came because we heard of the free love music beginning at 6pm on Saturdays. We didn't have a reservation but were quickly seated at 5:50pm when we arrived. Seating around the place was great in terms of viewing the musicians. The music was lovely, the service was lovelier and the food was surprisingly good. We got the baba ganoush, fish tacos, and beet salad. All well portioned and super fresh! Would totally come back again! Thanks for a great time Towne Crier!

Buck R.

Yelp
Great entertainment, delicious food, excellent service, surprisingly reasonable prices. Awesome casual but cool atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I've eaten here many times and never had a bad experience. Their desserts are fantastic, particularly their lemon pound cake. Last night, I tried the their wings and they were perfect: crispy and well seasoned. Service is always on point and there usually live music on weekends and maybe other times, too. Check it out soon!
google avatar

Nonka M.

Yelp
Come here for music not food. I was really excited to check this place out and was looking forward to a good experience, but the menu was quite disappointing. It seemed all over the place. Appetizer selection is very poor - the only appetizers you can share are a Mediterranean plate, wings and fries. I ordered a salmon entree and it was very sad looking and bland tasting ($24 is also pretty pricey for such poor quality), my husband had a seafood risotto special and it wasn't impressive either. I think this is a type of place where you order wings or a sandwich if you are hungry. We will definitely come back here for music, cocktails and good service, but not for a dinner.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
Walked in on a cold winter day. Great ambience . But the food is a little over priced . I ordered the Angus burger and the Braised Pork Taco's. The flavor average. Nothing exquisite . The burger was not worth the $18 I had to pay for it!! The menu had some good drinks. So if you're here for the music and drinks I guess that's fine . Keep in mind the food is just average for the price you pay.

Yelp
Stoped here on a Saturday for dinner during a trip to Beacon. We saw that there were issues with service in the past, but our service was actually fine. The live music was really good, and a good venue for it. But where a lot of the previous reviews hit the mark, we found to be true: the food was not that good and was overpriced. The cheese plate was literally just chunks of cheese from Trader Joe's on a board. I like cheese a lot so not terrible but a little let down. My girlfriends lamb burger was WAY over cooked with zero seasoning on it, and my chicken salad (pictured), was ok but too sweet. Wish there was more greens with it to break up the flavor a bit. Come here for music for sure, great space for that.
google avatar

Ricardo V.

Yelp
This is a great little venue to see a show. Every seat has a clear view of the stage making it an intimate place to see a show. The staff is eh, nice enough. The food however, is terrible. Was flavorless and portions were tI used. Came hoke after show and ate more because their entree was wholly unsatisfying. On top of that, for the amount and quality of the food, the prices are outrageous. A burger with cheese and bscon would come out to over $20. with So many great restaurants in beacon, I would def go somewhere else for dinner before a show as the food at the Towne Crier is not worth it.

Yelp
A treasure in Beacon. World class music venue with an amazing sound system for main stage as well as the smaller stage in the front of the venue where music is complimentary. We have seen many performances here since we moved up to Hudson Valley four years ago and are still impressed by the presentation of music performed. Even before music begins you can observe the attention paid to creating this space, the great art on the walls, by amazing local artists complementing the classy decor. At this treasure, senses are served, the magic of music soothes the ear, the art satisfies the eye and the amazing desserts excite the palette. Come as you are just for the desserts and you will undoubtedly be blown away by the delightful creations of the immensely gifted pastry chef here. It's been a rough "separating" ride in the last couple of years, at the Town Crier music's beauty affirms our unity. More Please.

Yelp
Awesome service. Great food. Recently catered an event . Went great. Everyone loved and enjoyed it. Staff was great to work with. Manager and owner were great to work with . Maple glaze Salmon was a big hit. Dessert was excellent. Warm Apple crisp with brownie and Chocolate sauce. Another gem in Beacon.

Yelp
This is the go to place for top entertainment and friendly atmosphere. We are so lucky to have the Towne Crier in our backyard. Saw/heard "Hot Club at Cowtown" in an intimate setting and they just knocked us out. Sound was good, staff attentive and the food was tasty. What more can you ask for? Will be going back again and again

Yelp
My friend and I stumbled upon Town Crier when we were spending the weekend in Beacon and it was a great find. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the live jazz music. The vibe and ambiance of the restaurant is cute and unique with pictures of the musical greats like Frank Sinatra and then some trippy psychedelic type posters. With a full band set up in the front, we walked in and were pleasantly surprised how fantastic they were. We started with the chickpea fries with a spicy harrisa aioli and they were really quite good. They were lightly fried and not oily at all which I was anticipating and loved their light and delicious flavoring. We also started with the Roasted Beet Salad with arugula and blue cheese crumbles that was tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette. In the menu it describes it as beet carpaccio which is odd to me since carpaccio is a thinly sliced raw meat or fish dish, but it was still very good just the same. For dinner, I had the pan seared salmon with a red onion confit on top, sautéed spinach on the side and roasted fingerling potatoes. The salmon was so moist and perfectly cooked and I really enjoyed it. The serve was extremely friendly and attentive and ensured that my friend's meal was vegan. We weren't sure if we wanted dessert, but we were informed that the desserts are made daily by the chef, so we tried the hazelnut dacquoise. It was so sweet that it wasn't even edible, in my opinion but the presentation was beautiful. The server made me a fantastic cappuccino that was awesome and perfectly paired with the baileys I ordered because, ya know...vacation.

Yelp
Long and short of it: Good Food Abysmal Service Yikes, Yikes, YIKES. My friend and I were in from out of town and were excited to try this place for brunch because we had heard good things, but this ended up being one of the worst and most confusing dining experiences of my life. To start, when we were first seated, our server seemed unable to remember our fairly simple orders. That was my first clue it was going to be an interesting experience. They had specialty coffee drinks on the menu all priced at $10. Most had coffee and two kinds of alcohol in them. I ordered a latte with Baileys and Kahlua (both options were in the menu drinks as well). First of all, although cappuccinos and other espresso drinks were on the menu, the server wasn't sure if he could make a latte. My friend and I (who have both been baristas) had to verbally instruct him how to do it. We could see the espresso machine from where we were sitting and he WAY over steamed the milk. What he ended up bringing me was a 'latte' with a shot of Baileys and a shot of Kahlua on the side, which was fine. So we order our food. I got the Brisket with Yucca fries and an added egg, and my friend got a vegetable omelet. The omelette came with 'seasonal greens' in it, and when me friend asked, the server told us it was spinach. They brought some water in a bottle that tasted like dirt. When we finally found our server to comment on this, he told us people have said that before and the bottle changes the flavor so instead brought us some fresh water. If you have been told this before, CHANGE IT!? Don't keep serving it in the same bottles! So some time goes by, and soon it's been nearly 30 minutes and we haven't seen our waiter. After some prodding about what was taking so long, we were told there was a Christmas show going on in the back and they had a group of about 20 people. If they were so backed up it was going to affect their service, they really should have mentioned it before we decided to eat there. They hadn't given us any kind of food or bread for the table, and now it was getting close to 45 minutes-1 hour with no food. My friend had to go on a hunt to find our waiter. When my friend finally found him, they told him that they had dietary concerns and needed to eat and asked if they could bring our bread or something. The waiter refused. Finally since it was obvious we were dissatisfied, the manager came over. He apologized and offered to bring us something to eat while we waited for our food after we explained the situation. By the time he brought us something, the food had already arrived, so while it was nice, it was a bit too late at that point. Our food was good once we finally got it. Except the 'seasonal greens' turned out to be carrots.... And while we were eating, literally about seven times our waiter and other waiters came to apologize for the service...which was nice the first time and ridiculous the fifth, sixth, and seventh. When we finally received our bill, they hadn't even comped anything besides the snack they brought us. AND although similar coffee drinks on the menu were $10, they charged me $4 for a latte plus $7 for each shot. A total of $18 for a coffee. More than my friend's entree cost. On top of that, they charged me for two extra eggs instead of one. We brought this to the attention of the waiter who spoke to the manager. He then returned and told us our drinks were comped (which should have been done anyway as far as I'm concerned) And I pointed out that, while that was nice, they still charged me for two eggs instead of one. His response was 'okay, but we comped the drinks so...' and they made me pay for an egg I did not receive. Over all, don't come here if you don't have a lot of emotional energy to deal with incompetent staff.

Yelp
I'm giving the Towne Crier 5 stars, would probably give 4.5 if I were able. I did something strange - went there twice in a weekend. The first was a Saturday Brunch. Kayla was our waitress. Superb service from her. My grad school bud had the Huevos Rancheros, and I the Smoked Salmon platter. He enjoyed his, looked right sized. I loved my platter - seasoned eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, smoked salmon and a fantastic dill cream cheese spread with a petite bagel. I thought it wouldn't be filling but it was. THEN we had dessert. The owners wife was a pastry chef at a high end NYC hotel for years, and it shows. I had the greatest slice of carrot cake EVER. He had a great sour cream tart. So the next day I took my wife, as I really wanted to try the lamb burger. She had the Huevos, same good quality. The lamb burger was tiny, like Where's the Beef commercial tiny. I addressed it, the owner came and apologized (said the cost of the lamb is 2x the beef, I get that). The replacement beef burger was perfect. Kayla took care of me again - great service. They should probably raise the lamb burger another $3-$5 and serve a normal portion, or just take it off the menu. But great brunch spot, and I'll be back!

Yelp
Highly recommend The Towne Crier Cafe in Beacon! The owner has been promoting quality live music in the Hudson Valley for over 50 years---be sure to walk through the restaurant and view the great artwork and photographs which offer a retrospective of all the great music acts that have performed there. Good food and service, excellent acoustics both in the Salon and on the Main Stage. The Sunday Brunch hour features the best of local talent in the Salon, free while dining. Icing on the cake (!) is the dessert menu: DO NOT SKIP the best cakes and pastry in the Hudson Valley, created in-house by classically trained pastry chef Mary Ciganer (formerly of NYC's Le Cirque!) Overall a 'must visit' destination in Beacon, NY.

Yelp
Visited from Manhattan. The Shashouka is one of the best things I've ever eaten, I could eat like three of these in one sitting. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Hostile to visiting musicians. I don't know if this is who should hear this, nor do I care. Today I travelled for 4 hours by boat to play at open mic. I then walked 25 minutes so that I could sign up for an early slot, so that I could get back to the boat, my home for 12 years, before it got dark. I played here last year with the same scenario. Early slot. Played here 3 weeks ago, with the same scenario. Early slot. Tonight, it's draw names from a hat for slots.....which gave me the prospect of walking back to the river in the dark, riding a dinghy back to my home in the dark...all a little too dangerous. Do what you want....I'm sure that your locals will tolerate it. I play open mics up and down the eastern seaboard. It's not the first place to make it clear that visiting musicians are 2nd class guests. I made all this clear to the hostess. Apathy. Couldn't care less. Sad way for Pete's place to treat strangers.

Yelp
We have been going to the Towne Crier for many years when they were in their old location in Pawling, NY. When our friends, the California Guitar Trio would play there, we would travel up from Queens for dinner and live music. We always had a great time and were never disappointed. Phil, the owner is a great host and has put together a fabulous venue. When Phil lost his lease in Pawling he started looking for a new location for the Towne Crier. Their new venue in Beacon, NY is a step above the old location. Bigger stage and a new and improved sound system. But one thing that has not changed is the quality of their food and service. Especially their deserts. When we heard the Guitar Trio was playing there last week we made it a point to see them in the new Towne Crier. Their music was great as always and the food did not disappoint. I had the BBQ sandwich and my wife had the lamb burger. The portions were huge but I managed to save room for one of their amazing deserts. Check out the show schedule and go up to Beacon for a wonderful evening of music and food. I'm sure the Towne Crier will surprise you! Enjoy! One final thought about the waitstaff. Other reviewers have mentioned inattentive service from the waitstaff. This has never been a problem besides I do not want the waitstaff to bother me while watching the show. But during intermission and before the show starts they are there for you. During the show flag one down if you need something.

Yelp
If you are even half considering going here, please go to one of the many many other much better establishments in Beacon. The food is below mediocre and the service is dreadful. Everyone who works here seems nice, but I have interacted with the owner, and he is incredibly unpleasant and aggressive towards any suggestions or negative comments towards his establishment. Regardless, the food is bland an uninspiring, and the music is mediocre, drinks are overpriced and weak/sugary.

Yelp
One of my restaurants/venues to see and hear live music. Food is always so good. Service always polite and courteous. They always get great talent to perform. Love the layout and décor. You can tell a lot of talent have played here. I appreciate the Covid policy that they put in place. Their motive is to keep their staff, performers and guests safe. How can you blame them for that? The hospitality business was hit so hard during the shut down of 2020. They are doing their part to prevent that happening again. Reading these negative reviews because of the covid policy is unfair to the the establishment. I hope all businesses adopt this policy. Yes, you have freedom, but so do the private businesses!

Yelp
I didn't think anyone read the reviews of their establishment. It's refreshing to know I'm not wasting my time when I write a review based on my experience.

Yelp
2 1/2* Service in the bar area was excellent. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere at the bar is very chill and the owner stopped by to talk to us/our baby too. My husband and I started with the goat cheese/olive tapenade bruschetta which I was a huge fan of. it's very olive-y though so if you're a fan of olives you'll probably like this. The veggie burger was incredibly dry! It needed something like an aioli and a moister patty. The fries that came with it were delicious though. We also tried the cheese panini which ended up being more like a grilled cheese. While the cheeses were delicious, it just wasn't what we were expecting. Also if you're trying to be healthy you should avoid this! The salad that came with it was well dressed though. Maybe the meat dishes are better here? As a vegetarian I was left disappointed.

Yelp
With those newly enforced draconian infringement on privacy to prove health, you can bet your bottom dollar my money will not be spent at your venue. Mandates aren't law. You're not doctors, have zero authority to determine health of patrons. If you're that concerned, close your doors until you're not.

Yelp
Came for dinner on a Wednesday Open Mic night. Our first visit. Our food was excellent. I had the Ropa Vieja. Partner had the fish tacos. The beef in mine was very tender and tasty. Very generous portion of meat and rice. Agave chips were large wedges that seemed roasted. She said her fish was fresh and very good. But, flavor of the tacos nothing exciting. As an appetizer the three were adequate. Need more to make a meal. Our server was very nice. Seemed to really know the menu and how everything was prepared. Appeared to care that we enjoyed our choices. Wish we had saved room for dessert. The entertainment was a mixed bag. Overall, we heard some really good and memorable performers. Two songs or ten minutes each. Would certainly go back.

Yelp
Have been here a number of times and have always enjoyed it, but after tonight, we will not be returning. The food was excellent, as always; portions were small for the price but this could be overlooked if not for the bad experience we had with the service. This has really soured us on the Towne Crier. 1.) We waited over an hour for our food, after ordering quickly upon being seated. We understand things happen and I am especially patient given the challenges restaurants are facing during COVID-but this was egregious. 2.) While each person who came to our table was apologetic upon learning we'd been waiting, this didn't result in our food coming any faster-it was also impossible to tell who our server was, and when we asked for the check at the end of the meal we were asked who'd been helping us as a response. 3.) When the food came, it arrived in a staggered manner so that a full 15 minutes passed before the other person got their food. Nobody seemed to be concerned about this until we brought it to their attention. 4.) We were offered a free dessert to make up for the lateness of our meal, but declined due to medical reasons. The server said 'ok' and walked away without any other concessions. 5.) I would be remiss if I did not mention that the manager was fully aware of all of this the entire time. I've noticed that the manager of this establishment responds pretty extensively to any less than stellar reviews-I am not writing this to cast aspersions on or to take away from the impact of this restaurant on the community of Beacon, but given all the missed opportunities given for the front of house staff to rectify what was a pretty clearly negative dining experience and the fact we shelled out $60+ for our meal, it felt important to give feedback.
