"This westside brewery is easy to miss, but those who do find it are rewarded with a quiet and cozy atmosphere with modern furniture and tabletop fireplaces. It’s a great place to chill and enjoy one of the rotating taps with a friend — whether that’s another beer drinker or a furry four-legged one." - John Reyes

Google
They have some decent beers. Didn't have food options when we visited except chips. But chips and salsa were great. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. It was mostly empty on a Friday night.

Stopped in at Noon on a Sunday and were the only ones here. (But there was a home U of M game going on.) And the Beer Jockey said they usually get busy around 2pm ish. Hubsy and I each had a flight. I liked my beers-hubsy said he like everything but the stout, which tasted contaminated, so maybe a bad barrel. We shared a street corn dip and chips, asked for second cup of dip to finish up the chips. We were surprised it was cold, but both thought it was good anyway. Beer jockey( he named himself) was knowledgeable about the beers and could give recommendations on other breweries to stop at. Tag A Brew participant and lots of swag and decor items available to purchase.

Had just driven from Massachusetts, enjoyed the food and hospitality. The owner and staff were welcoming/friendly. Unfortunately they were out of cider, but had a diverse range of options to choose from including beer and seltzers. They had a smooth IPA although no true doubles, but I'm bias and spoiled from our NE DIPA's at home. Their outdoor area was nice and main tap room was spacious. Food was decent, although spicy! I'm a fan and my wife was not, we ordered another quesadilla asking for no spice/jalapenos since we didn't read the menu close enough and unfortunately was given another regular quesadilla including spiciness. It was really nice to have the dog friendly policy as well! We didn't think the price point was bad for how much we got, although we are from taxachussetts and might have different perspectives opposed to others in the area. Thanks for the good food and drink while we were in town!

Google
Drove up from o$u central ohio to hit some breweries in AA. Our K9s named Tshimanga and Desmond came along to explore. Townes was a pleasant visit. Offering some big number beers for me, with some lower number beers and seltzer for the Mrs. Outdoor area outstanding. Inside gaming area looked amazing.

Google
Very nice environment. There is a lot of outdoor space with distanced seating. It was well lite and a nice ambiance. Nice brews and it is dog friendly which is wonderful! We are always thankful for the option to bring our pup. We look forward to visiting again.

We stopped by the Townies Brewery for a few drinks and really enjoyed our stay. I was too in the moment to get pics, but they have a very chill atmosphere. The main brew room has high top tables. Staff was friendly. They have a game room and a very nice patio with cabanas and fire places. There is even a lawn area out back. Very nice!

Google
We sat outside and were able to enjoy the nice breeze. Tried the Pilsner and Cherry Cider. They were both super light, the cider not too sugary. We also had the Chicken Nachos which were really good - needed some more chicken on it, but besides that, they were the right balance between spicy and savory.

Google
My wife and I enjoyed our beers! We will be back! Thoughts for the new brewery: 1) Need taller stools at the bar 2) More live music/ music on weekends 3) More lounge seating outside (We love the fire tables!) 4) Simple snacks on the menu would be nice 5) The beer is too expensive 6) TV outside would be ideal

Melissa M.

Yelp
Really loved this place. Had some time to waste before a wedding reception; nice interior. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. The nachos were bangin and I really liked my beer. Would come back! Ps their parking lot gives me anxiety

Shelby A.

Yelp
I certainly have some nostalgia about Townies, but they are certainly making some moves in an amazing direction that make this place great! 3 years ago my husband and I had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at this location, so we love to come back for a drink every year for our anniversary. They now have nachos and tacos, and a couple more beers and wine in rotation as well that were great. We got the chicken nachos which were great, and the lower ABV pineapple sour which I really enjoyed. They also have a game room here, and a great patio. Parking is a little confusing, but outside of that this is an awesome spot to grab a drink and some nachos!

Yelp
Horrible beer and food , better brewerys in A2 would not waste your time or money , bartender was arrogant and rude

Krista P.

Yelp
While I still love the environment - super kid- and dog-friendly yard space (5 stars!). The food quality is extremely underwhelming (2-3 stars). You used to be able to bring in outside food, but now need to order from Townies. We've tried several different menu items since my original post, and have never had a single thing that we would order again. Either let us bring in outside food or up your food game, Townies! I really want to love and support you! Lord knows we need more family-friendly spaces for beer lovers!

Jodie D.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere and the beer!! Love the stoned wall and the outdoor patio. Dawn is the best!! A hidden treasure. Stop in and sit on the cozy and warm patio!! A wide selections of beer and free popcorn. We played euchre for hours. I can't wait to go back. This be the place that we will be visiting many times in the future! I can't say enough about this place and apparently yelp feels the same way because I have to keep saying stuff for it to post this. I am at the average length and it still wants more. Wow. Is this how all reviews are? I love this place and had a great time but I am sad that I have to keep writing to get this to post. Ugh!! Ok, so since I have to keep typing to get this review posted. I will tell you alittle about myself. My husband and friends love beer so we visit a lot of breweries and go to a lot of beer feast so when I say you will like this place. U will LOVE this place!

Ed W.

Yelp
We live about a ten minute walk from here and decided to pop in and try it out. So glad we did. It's got a great set up: lots of seating, board games, huge garage door that they open up in nice weather to let in light and fresh air, and outdoor seating. They also have great beers on top of it all. The bartender on our fist visit was Anthony. He had us cracking up right from the start; really fun guy. We plan to come back and participate in their trivia. If you live in Ann Arbor, or just visit, you must check this place out.

Amanda D.

Yelp
This place is great. In town from Ohio visiting family. Always looking to try new breweries. The patio is AWESOME. It's about 55-60 degrees outside. Nice chilly fall evening. They have the garage doors open and the fire tables going. It's prefect. The fire tables are picnic tables made out of concrete. I assumed the seats would be freezing but there has to be hot water running through them or something because the benches are warm and toasty! Love it. As a cider drinker, usually when we go to breweries I have to hope they have a bar for me, but here they have not one, but two in house ciders. I'm not into dry cider so I opted for the Appolonia & Blueberry Rain. Omg it's so good. They don't have a good menu but they allow you to bring food in from anywhere as long as you drink here it's great. We will definitely come back.

Suzanne B.

Yelp
A fantastic patio with welcoming ambiance is the biggest plus for Townies. Points for being close to Chela's to grab food. Interior is nice if a little too perfect. Parking is hardly adequate, and make sure you're in their lot or you'll get towed! I visited recently for a trivia night, more interested in checking out the game and a new place than anything else. I was fortunate enough to snag the last spot in their parking lot, and I'm glad I did; my friend said other nearby places will tow, so be forewarned. I went with a sparkling water, which they have several flavors of; if you're like me and not a beer person, this is probably your best option here. Food is either beer jerky, chips, or something from a nearby restaurant, which they don't mind if you bring in. Music was defeating when I arrived -- the small speaker by the bar really cranks out some decibels. It was so loud in fact that I went outside mainly to save my eardrums from rupturing. Trivia was fun. I will probably return for that at some point. Otherwise I'm glad I checked it out but I won't be a Townies regular.

Erin B.

Yelp
I wasn't quite sure what to expect but this brewery offered a wonderful atmosphere full of friendly faces and plenty of places to warm up on a chilly fall day. My best friend and I took a day trip out to Ann Arbor to visit a few of the local bookstores and decided to finish our afternoon here, and were thrilled to have made that choice. It was a pleasure to get to spend a few hours sipping on hard ciders in a cozy, fire lit cabana just outside of the brewery itself. Will definitely be returning.

Melle E.

Yelp
I like the look of this place, but their beer always tastes "off" -- I'm not enough of a brewing connoisseur to know what the issue is, but I've never had an unequivocally good drink here. The food is just bad (the nachos we ordered were flavorless, messy, and used gross slimy canned chicken). Parking lot is tiny and there seems to be some drama with neighboring businesses about Townies customers parking in their lots. Be VERY careful if you're parking elsewhere.

Amy W.

Yelp
Well, last stop of the day, which was a good thing. I loved this spot and can't wait to go back. The flights were super cute, the bar was fun, and we got to sit in a very comfy outdoor patio. The sun was blazing but still comfortable. I don't get to the Ann Arbor area very often but this is a place I will have on my list for when I do come back. Now, I must say that sometime during this day, he probably should have fed me. I wish I had more to say about this review but I think I was 25 beers in at this point. Uhhh. How did I not die?

Bryan K.

Yelp
Loved this brewery!! It has so much to offer plus now has a food truck, tried the sliders and I have to say Isaac the new cook hit it out of the park with a home run. Can't wait to try the loaded fries. The place had two pool tables and even board games to pass the during some tasty beers. Not sure if they do live music but will definitely come back especially since the weather is getting nice.

Dianne S.

Yelp
Bartender horribly, horribly rude, we will not return, too bad as we love the outdoor fire pits. I see why we were the only customers that stayed for a couple hours, a few came throughout the evening, but left after one beer. This place could be great, but the rude energy of the staff is ruining it.

Caroline V.

Yelp
Great place to hangout by the fire and drink a beer or two. Plus, they're dog friendly so our dog loves it here too!

Shawn H.

Yelp
I hosted a wedding shower at Townies and the staff and owners exceeded our expectations in every way! The food, the service, the room set up...were all fabulous! Our guests all raves about what a great time they had there. I would absolutely recommend going there! It's so cute and the beer and ciders are fantastic. Grab a drink and head out to a fire pit! It's the perfect way to spend some time!

Gaby F.

Yelp
The atmosphere is very fun and good for groups. Food is limited, and they don't allow outside food even with a menu of chips and snacks. Drinks are good, would recommend as a place to drink post meal somewhere else.

Ken M.

Yelp
A tasty (if not particularly punchy) gose; fruity and slightly sour. The food options are Pilar's excellent tamales from across the street, in a steam tray on the counter --- if those run out you're down to bags of beef jerky. Growler fill took a little while, but they managed to keep the outside dry and not sticky, so maybe that's a good trade-off. There are four televisions --- 2 were football (fine), 1 was news (fine), and 1 was tuned to video games. So you can have a beer and watch your e-sports. I'm strangely comfortable with that.

Kristen G.

Yelp
This is a really nice place! I loved the vibes inside! Lots of tables, not busy at all! Games and TVs, with a patio outside with two fire pit tables! How much better does it get! The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is because the blonde and red ales in my flight tasted AWFUL. The blonde literally tasted like a cigar, I had to make my boyfriend drink it, which is sad because I've never not loved a blonde!

Valerie B.

Yelp
I feel very fortunate to live close by to Townies, so my husband and I can pop in for a beer pretty much anytime! There are great options no matter what your style of beer is--including locally brewed options from various craft breweries. The food is decent as well. I especially love the nights they have Pilar's tamales. A chicken and cheese tamale, homemade chips and salsa, with a draft beer is pure perfection.

Christie O.

Yelp
I've tried Townies a few times and always disappointed. The beer is just ok at best. I love good beers and these aren't it. I tried the seltzers tonight. The margarita was good but I could barely get down a few sips of the Lemon Drop. So many other good beer spots in town, so hit one of them up instead.

Josh F.

Yelp
I really didn't care for the beer. Fermentation problems galore. The sour patch kids beer smells like meat. None of the staff were masked up. I should have known when I walked in on a Friday evening and it was empty.

Elizabeth Z.

Yelp
The staff doesn't wear masks, and they come up way too close while talking. They forget parts of your order, and the bathroom is unkept.

Blaise B.

Yelp
This place was just kind of a disappointment. They ONLY serve beer, and they were supposed to have food but didn't, so it was just a total miss for me. We came to play trivia, and it seemed like everyone knew each other but us, and we just kind of felt in the way the whole time. I don't plan to return.

Peter P.

Yelp
Great to have a brewery open in this location again. A basic set of original brews fill the current beer board. Many more are on the wThe relaxed indoor outdoor seating with TVs makes for a welcoming atmosphere. Bring in food from several neighboring restaurants or check out the weekly food trucks. Beer garden is coming too. It's not Holmes. It's not Wolverine. It's Townies.

Alex T.

Yelp
Trendy little microbrewery with plenty of indoor seating and a smaller outdoor area. A good variety of beers and friendly staff. Shared flights with my date. Good place to hang out on a weekday evening. Probably a fun spot on the weekends too.

Jordan P.

Yelp
I ordered split flight of 6 here and didn't particularly like any of the options. The beer just tasted a little off. The atmosphere was just okay, farmhouse style decor.

Charles W.

Yelp
Pros: cool little patio, live music, friendly staff, deserve time to grow Cons: avg at best beer They are fairly new, so they really deseeve time to wotk on things, regine the craft, and develop. This is the story and wriggle room I give all newer breweries. So I recommend doing a little walking beer tour with this as a stop between the other two in the area; however, the beers are easily overshadowed by those at this time. The little patio is really great. Its kind of like being in a beer garden mixed with drinking in a backyard. There are games svailable to play as well. At this time the beers are pedestrian at best. I tried a few, which names escape me but they were all of the lighter variety. A cherry blonde, two ipas, and another fruited beer, perhaps blueberry? Each one was drinkable. At their best they wouldve been on a flight at another brewery and you'd say oh thats okay. If I was them I'd consider adjusting to the demand on citrus forward low ibu ipas. They seem to like brewing with fruit flavors, so perhaps exploring the sweet/tart kettle sours. In the warmer months really develop the dark beers, but have some available year round. I feel like this would make them stand out a bit. They are kind of competing and need to have a niche to hang with their neighbors. In closing, support these guys snd lets give thrm a chance to develop. The beer wont blow you away right now but itll be great if it does fown the road!

Joe V.

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer. Had an IPA. I didn't notice any pricing posted, so I was a little shocked that it was $9 after tax for a 20oz pour of their IPA. It wasn't like double IPA with super high ABV or anything that would warrant a price tag like that. I mean, I guess it could have been a special beer, but it wasn't indicated like that on the signage. The beer was admittedly good. For a small place that brews their own beer - without prime real estate - the price was quite high. The parking lot is honestly a total nightmare. I don't have anxiety issues, but that parking lot would be something that could trigger them. If you do have anxiety issues, I'd take your meds before going here because you'll probably freak out parking your car. Atmosphere is decent. You can tell they've worked at making a pretty sterile environment try to feel more welcoming. Overall, I'd come back if the prices were more in line with what I'm used to seeing and/or want to pay for a beer.

Zac B.

Yelp
The below quote was my review from Glasshouse back in 2016 when they first opened. Now that Townies it, I really could not tell the difference, they barely changed anything in the space, the beer is about the same quality and the staff seem just as friendly. I had a buddy from out of town come here with me and he said no we have been here he wanted to try something new, I had to convince him yes it all seems the same but it is in fact something different. "Considering they just opened I was very impressed. They just have the bare basic beers right now and I thought the IPA and Porter were actually really good. Nice patio, granted not much of a view, but decent exterior and interior. I will definatly continue to go and see how they develop. Employees are very friendly and helpful, great staff from what I saw."

A M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and beer. Lots of games to play and you can bring your furry 4 legged friends . I will be back soon. Parking can be a challenge however.

John H.

Yelp
Simply stated; Townies offers a Great atmosphere, great beer, and delicious food! Townies is a very family friendly place, with activities as well. Tonight we ordered the cilantro lime shrimp tacos, taquito basket, the hand cut fries, and the spinach and strawberry salad. All were delicious and I would have taken pictures if we hadn't have ate that fast. FYI: the Menu does change frequently, so best to look online if interested.in regards to the beer: Mr. Tangerine Man is the jam right now. It Offers much flavor for an IPA spin. As I am a very big beer advocate, I can say that the brews are pretty, pretty, good!

Patrick M.

Yelp
Stopped in Ann Arbor from Ohio for the night and tried this place out. Not a huge selection but the beers were excellent. The Wit for Tat is unique for a wheat body beer but is worth the trip.

Katelyn F.

Yelp
I love the outdoor seating and atmosphere at townies. The beer is great and they have a decent variety. This is definitely one of my new favorites in the area.

Alicia S.

Yelp
Completely unexpected! Super cool! Great back area full of family friendly games! And, didn't mention the beer is extra tasty? Plus, is where you can actually bring your own food in, which is something I really really like. PS. They're in is an amazing Mexican place right next-door. Fabulous flavor combination. Can't wait to make a trip back in the summer as they have a nice outdoor space.

Alex A.

Yelp
Beer is mediocre and the service is about there too. Id recommend going to Wolverine state right down the street. Way better, won't waste my money here again.

Jay S.

Yelp
Great brewery in Ann Arbor. First time being at Townies and we love it! Definitely planning on returning! The beer is good and the atmosphere is awesome.

David L.

Yelp
We just discovered this place. It had a great selection of craft beers and a couple of ciders. You can order Mexican from the place next door or pizza across the street. Pets are welcome on the patio. We appreciated the gas fire at the outdoor tables

Tom R.

Yelp
Outstanding brewery on Ann Arbor's west side. Super friendly staff and a great beer selection with many poured directly from the vats. The Blacksmith Stout is very tasty and the Black Cat Bock is delicious!

Kyle C.

Yelp
This is an awesome place! You are allowed to bring behaved dogs inside. The service was great, the beer was great. Overall great experience and highly recommend!

Marisa H.

Yelp
We love Townies. It has the best atmosphere, love their outside seating but the inside is just as great. We have used their curbside pick-up more than a few times and everyone there is amazing and so easy to order.

Kristy J.

Yelp
The lady working there thought my friend was using a fake i.d. just because she looks really young. She made her get another form of identification before she would sell her anything. We have been there many times before when it was Glasshouse and never had a problem. Besides that, we had a nice time!

Andy C.

Yelp
A different concept for a brewery. They have food trucks instead of a kitchen. Still not fully open but the beer is flowing and good. They are working on having a beer garden, movie screen and a bed and breakfast. They need to have a stout or porter. Dawn the bartender is phenomenal! Quick whittled with a nice dose of sarcasm that I enjoyed!

Theo F.

Yelp
Cool place. But understaffed on Sunday. Not a dig, just bad timing. And after that, the guy was American psycho. Lady at the bar was great. Wish you could hear it now!

Kathleen W.

Yelp
The beer was mediocre at best. I tasted all the beers they were offering on draft and none of them tasted the way a good beer should taste. Their beer names are uninspiring. There was a band when I went, but it was really loud. Even sitting outside I was having a hard time enjoying my evening with the music. The glass on the fire pit seats was extremely hot to the touch and posed a threat. I don't expect to return. This place needs help in every way.

Bgk S.

Yelp
Bring Glasshouse back! Glasshouse beers were superior in every way to Townies' beer. I tried a flight here and 2 people could barely finish 6 oz of four different beers, because they were not good. Couldn't Glasshouse at least have sold you their brewing recipes in addition to the space ?

Michael M.

Yelp
Went with larger group for Trivia on Wednesday night. We all had blast!! We were not the BIG winners...but sure felt like it after sampling so many delicious brews!! Had a yummy Reuben too!!

Katen B.

Yelp
Great place! Good beers! They do the basics well. Fun place! Love the fire pit tables! Service was excellent! Dawn made it a fun place to visit.

Cold C.

Yelp
The beers were surprisingly good. Even better than the beers was the service. Anthony was friendly, funny and knowledgable. He even put Clutch on the stereo for us. Definitely not the snooty atmosphere that's becoming more prevalent in many A2 bars. Keep it up!

Don S.

Yelp
Went with the wife the other night, really liked this place, cozy and cool , not to mention solid beer selection.....
