Best New Restaurants in Queens, July 2025: According to Eater Editors | Eater NY

"At Tozton, there are huge portions of boldly flavored Peruvian-Venezuelan dishes and day-long happy hour specials. The palm-sized pastelitos have a golden-fried crust; they come with five saucy fillings, including ground beef and cheese. The two ceviches (fish and mixed seafood) come with sides such as fried shrimp and aji amarillo-seasoned mashed potatoes (they’re liberal with their rocoto pepper in their ceviches, if requested spicy). The pabellon — shredded beef, rice, beans, fried egg — practically drips off the already-large plate. The bolon con carne features tender beef with cheese-stuffed plantain balls. The $6 margaritas and mojitos are a steal from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., but don’t miss the tangy lulo shake, with bits of fruit." - Caroline Shin

Don’t have too much experience tasting Peruvian cuisine. But I gotta say this place is amazing, the service was excellent and the food so tasty! The skirt steak with the shrimps was a boom! Definitely coming back. Thanks Emily and her coworker for the attention. It was a nice experience.

Google
We were pleasantly surprised with this restaurant… the portions were sizable and the skirt steak had tons of flavor— but not salty. The cheese and guava dough rolls were light and the dough had a hint of sweetness. I was happy they accommodated vegetarian food restrictions— replacing the beef with more plantains. Definitely coming back for more!

Google
BEST PLACE EVER! 😻 literally I’ve been here thousands of times. Sometimes I order the same but everything here is sooo delicious, service is good, food sensational. I love chaulafan and chaufa de pollo . I’ve brought everyone I know here. Prices are reasonable and amount of food is good as well. GO THERE! 🫶🏻

Google
We had a solid experience but encountered a long wait time for our entrees (over an hour) on a Sunday afternoon. The drinks were delicious and refreshing but the food could use some minor improvements. For instance, the sauce on my carne marinada was on the salty side, the side salad had small pools of water, and my partner’s steak was unevenly cooked. This restaurant definitely has a few hits but needs time to figure out their staffing and flow.

Google
I absolutely loved this place. Would like to keep it a secret that way there is no over crowding next time i go. But well worth o it was my 1st time going there but I'm ready to go back. Prices were great. Very satisfied even with the Drinks

Google
Loved this place for dinner, but will definitely return for lunch. The ceviche was incredible and very authentic. The lomo saltado with linguine and huancaína sauce was something I never imagined, but was SO delicious. Come eat here!! Oh and the drinks were nice as well.

Clarissa Rivera

Google
Everything tasted fresh, perfectly seasoned, and came in generous portions that left me happily full but still wishing for ‘just one more bite.’ The atmosphere is cozy without feeling cramped. Cocktails deserve their own shoutout 😍 It manages to feel like both a special treat and a comfortable neighborhood go-to. Honestly we can’t wait to come back and work our way through the rest of the menu!

Google
Had a great time at this place! The food was great, the flavors reminded me of homemade meals. The service was fast and friendly, especially Mary and Emily, they’re great!! Definitely a good spot if you’re craving something flavorful and comforting.

Yelp
Last time I was there was 5/30/2025 and won't go back anymore because of my server Emily. The only server they have because is a small cute place. Most of their food is good, but their carne chaufa with fries and their grilled porkchop is just ok. Nothing I ordered again the last times I went to eat. Anyway, last time I was there with my partner it was during lunch special, like I said is a small place so it gets crowded fast. There is only 1 waitress, and therefore the server can easily get agitated because of the excess of work. My partner and I asked for our entrees. It was busy I understand no problem waiting a while. But then the server came with my partner's plate and my plate came with a small soup, the server brought the soup to table 5 min. later. I finished my small soup fast. As I told the server 20 min. later when would my food arrive, she answered you had your soup and the order was being made in a rude manner. I could see she was annoyed. But why serve my partner and leave me waiting 40 min. until she place my food on my table? Yes, I waited 20 extra min. My partner felt bad so I ate some of his food, while we were having a couple of drinks. My drink passion fruit margarita was good but the mojito was really bad. My partner gave me a taste and he was not kidding. It tastes like ice water and no liquor. No flavor!! Since I waited so long to be serve, I thought she won't mind if I ask for the mojito to be made stronger and better. She got annoyed again and said it will be extra. My goodness this girl is taking out her overly worked body with us. We said fine, but when the receipt came there was no extra charge for putting more alcohol in the mojito. But the mojito now tasted like water, ice and alcohol only. We wanted the drink to taste like a real mojito. We just let it go, as we knew we were not coming back ever. Anyway, I usually tip fair but this time I left a $6.00 tip because service with Emily was the worst! Never going back there. I should actually should had left nothing now that I think of it.

Yelp
This is why there is something for everyone. My friend brought me to Tozton because he had been here once before & loved it. I on the other hand would give it a hard pass & that's ok. Let's get into it.... This is a small, clean, cute establishment with simple decore. The staff I interacted with were sweet. We went for happy hour (random Tuesday), the drinks barely had any alcohol in them. I tried the frozen margarita then switched to on the rocks. I tried my friends mojito & disliked that more than my marg. I was so shocked when the bill came & saw happy hour drinks were $5, explains a lot. Anyway the menu isn't really extensive. The only thing they had for vegans was the avocado salad which was good! We had guacamole with tostones for app, guac was so bland! Cilantro? Jalapeño? Salt ? I ordered a side of fried yuca aswell, didn't care for that either. They left that middle stem you're suppose to cut off. Anyway... My friend enjoyed everything lol I'm laughing because our opinion on this place is the complete opposite. He blames it on me being vegan. (Rolling my eyes) While dinning here we saw this place can get busy, people coming in & out. I think they have good late lunch specials, not sure. Anyways that's was my opinion on Tozton, what do I know lol As always Enjoy!

Yelp
I came here again on Monday for dinner and it was good. We ordered the stuffed maduro and for the main course I had linguine a la Huancaina con lomo salteado. It was good I really liked the lomo salteado it was well cooked and well seasoned. I did not really like the linguine; it was over cooked for my taste and the flavor was not what I expected. I would ordered the lomo salteado again but with another side and the maduro was delicious. The yuca fries were good and I would definitely order them. I had two drink the coconut mojito and a passion fruit margarita which was good. The service was great she was really nice and attentive. The space is nice and it is a great family space.

Yelp
Was recommended by a couple of people so decently wanted to try it out. First things first, food was pretty good. The steak pasta was really and I was pretty excited to eat it as leftovers. Pretty good portions and definitely worth it. Service was ok, they were very nice but we waited a pretty long time. Not sure if this is a regular thing or but something to keep in mind. The place itself is pretty nice and especially with summer coming up, it's a really nice option for a sit down place.

Yelp
Despite the critical reviews, this place delivered a great meal. The staff provided kind attention. The good reputation is justified here. Tozton serves food that impresses. I'm excited about my next visit to taste different options.

Yelp
Love going to this place. The ambiance is excellent. Today we went with some friends for memorial day. As always happy hour and lunch menu are great prices. They had great music and was a bit busy. Tostones with guacamole is a good sharing appetizer. Its tasty and fresh. I had ceviche and we shared other menu items. The reason why is not a full 5 is because my friend asked for a red snapper.First it took to long and second when the food came it was a fish filet not a full fish. Also the fish was not a red snapper , we all tried the taste and texture of it. And it was not it. The flavor was good but not what was on the menu. I told the waitress about it and she told the manager. Not to be a surprise, they agreed that they changed the fish 2 weeks ago and dit not tell people or changed the menus. The food is a 5 but customers should be told about changes.

Yelp
My friend saw this spot on an instagram reel and wanted to try it for an early dinner spot. The place itself is very small but the inside decor is cute. Their happy hour is $5 for either frozen or on the rocks margaritas which you can't beat. The drinks are a little on the sweet side but they are pretty good. We ordered their stuffed arepas with shredded beef which were actually quite delicious. The arepas were sweet and paired well with the saltiness of the beef. We also ordered guacamole with chicharrón; the chicharrón was so crunchy and meaty. They could work on their decor and make the inside a bit more fun and eye catching. I would come back for their happy hour margaritas and appetizers.

Yelp
Delicious spot for Peruvian cuisine. The portions are generous and the food is so good. My friend and I had the red snapper and chaulafan. Both dishes were flavorful and beautifully plated! The sauce for the red snapper was delicious. . The drinks are strong and very fresh! The Pina colada was excellent! I would recommend it!

Yelp
I think I said "Wow, that flavor!!" 4+ times. Everything was soooo flavorful and delicious! My boyfriend and I walked in around 8pm on a Friday night and were seated right away. The place is very well decorated with a minimalistic vibe. We shared the Pastelitos Sampler- I'm telling the truth when I say we looked at each other wide-eyed after each bite. They were THAT tasty. We also got the Tostones con Guacamole, which was exactly what you'd expect. For my meal I ordered the Fettuccine a la Huancaina con lomo de salteado. SUPER flavorful meat and sauce. The pasta flavors reminded me of mac and cheese. Together, they made a great dish. Overall 10/10 experience and flavorful food!

Yelp
This place shows skill in making reliable good food. Tozton delivers dependable results. The workers showed proficiency while staying friendly. This place earned my recommendation. I'll return to this restaurant without fail.

Yelp
I spotted this place from a food influencer on ig. When walking inside you can tell it is newly renovated. There's a lot of seating and when I went no reservations were necessary, and there was room. The menu was extensive. There was a lot of different entrees and the ones that I tried was the Entrana 14oz steak. This came with rice, beans and fries. I didn't eat the fries but everything else was good. I was so full afterwards as portion wise it was so much. I had to bring the steak home.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this place out and I'm so glad I finally did! While it might not look like much from the outside, inside is cozy and inviting. A real hidden gem in Astoria! I was greeted promptly and able to sit right away. I came for a solo late lunch on Sunday around 3pm and the place really filled up by the time I left. The menu appears to be a mix of Latin cuisines: Peruvian, Colombian and Venezuelan from what I could tell. I admittedly was not familiar with a lot of the items on the menu so I asked the server for some recommendations. She was very sweet and helped me decide on some options. I LOVE passionfruit so of course I had to try the passionfruit shake. For the fruit shakes you pick between milk or water and the server recommended water for the passionfruit. It was the perfect mix of tart and sweetness and blended very smoothly. For my main dish, I asked about a couple different ones and the server recommended the Chaulafan - rice with shrimp, steak and chicken served with avocado and sweet plantains. It was so delicious! I loved the mix of flavors and the shrimp were cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed the green sauce that came on the avocado and asked for more on the side. The portion was huge so I took half to-go. This place would be great for groups because there are a lot of things on the menu that would be great to share: many small appetizers, ceviches, and various meat/seafood + rice and bean dishes which were all big enough to share. Would have loved to try more but didn't since I was solo. Will definitely have to come back!

Yelp
Run don't walk here: this is some of the best South American food I've had in the neighborhood! The food is some of the best Peruvian food I've had: very generous portions, really good prices, a huge diversity of food on your plate, and everything is delicious! I got a platter of various meats, with plantains, rice, black beans and avocado. The meats were marinated, tender, well-seasoned and just so, so good. The maduros (plantains) were juicy and more succulent than some of the meat; the black beans were soft and flavorful. Even the rice was great: not too starchy or sticky. If anything, the worst thing on the plate was the avocados because they weren't seasoned and couldn't compete with all the good food! I also had a happy hour margarita which was also very good, not like the slushies that you might find at other places. The service was polite and quick: I felt like really taken care of, and my waitress came back several times to make sure I had enough water and napkins, and wasn't left hungry. I will definitely be coming back here again: the food really is worth traveling for.

Yelp
Ordered: Pastelito de Maduro con Queso (~$4) Lomo Saltado (~$28): sautéed skirt steak served with fries and rice Chaulafan (~$23): sautéed Asian-style rice with shrimp, steak, and chicken served with avocado and sweet plantains Tres Leches (~$14) Aya's take: Tozton is a fairly new restaurant in Astoria serving Peruvian food. The wait staff was super friendly and the portions were tremendous! We started off with one Pastelito de Maduro con Queso. It's similar to an empanada but larger and more round. It was sweet, savory, and nicely fried. The green spicy sauce on the side was so delicious! We asked for more of it to go with our actual meals. Lomo Saltado is my favorite Peruvian dish and this was spot on. The skirt steak was tender, well-seasoned, and had a good blend of tomatoes and onions in it. I liked that they didn't mix the fries in to keep them crispy (although technically that's not the traditional way). It was super delicious and priced well! The Chaulafan was also incredible! It's a simple, comforting fried rice and I loved that it had shrimp, steak, and chicken. The steak didn't taste as fresh and the shrimp lacked salt. The avocado and plantain were the cherry on top! They were 2 small but necessary ingredients to really elevate the dish. The Chaulafan went crazy with the green spicy sauce! The disappointing part was the Tres Leches. Not only was it ~$14 which is probably the most I've spent on a single slice but it didn't taste fresh at all. The sponge cake tasted a couple days old (like it had been sitting in the fridge). It was doused with condensed milk and was super sweet but it still wasn't enough to mask the cake itself. That wasn't worth it and I wouldn't recommend it either. Other than that, it was a good try and super filling meal.

Yelp
Tozton is yet another of the many Latin American spots opening up on Broadway. An unassuming and low-key Peruvian/Venezuelan eatery serving many fish dishes is what we originally headed to try out. In fact, they were an accidental discovery when we first noticed them last year. As we were not very accustomed to this type of fusion dishes we tried some samplers -see photos -and basked in their very comfortable seating arrangements. On the Saturday we went, the place was almost dead so we had the waitress all to ourselves. Much of the interpretation of what we ordered needed some clarification, so recommendations were made according to the order of the day. There were also a few language problems, but they were easily overcome. Would I recommend them? Go there mid-afternoon at the weekends to get the best attention?

Yelp
This place truly left a wonderful impression on me. I had never been there before and I used to live around the corner!! The atmosphere was full of love and light! The food was delicious as well. I had a dish with sweet plantains, shrimp and light cheese. The flavors were so yummy!! The waitress was so friendly and warm as well. I truly enjoyed her. Great place!! Bravo!!

Ola Z.

Yelp
I have to write review about this place since I gave it a chance twice and both times terrible! First time, we were larger crowd and while everyone was happy and talking the waitress shut us down said to be quiet so she can speak, so unprofessional! She did not politely ask, she yelled and got upset. The food was fried in an old reused at least 20 times oil, everything by was so salty. The second time we were added an automatic tip for party of 4 which was 2 adults and babies under 2year old. Not to mention we ordered one dish to share. Very desperate for tips! The lomo Soltado was so salty and the meat tasted like an old cow. We didn't say anything but we should have send it back. Paid 28$ for old meat. Something is off. with this place and it needs to change.

Yelp
This place hit the spot on a Friday afternoon! We had passed by this place last week and were dying to try it. The setup is nice and clean. Because they just opened it was completely empty but as we were leaving, a couple was coming in. We will definitely be come back when they get their liquor license! Isabella was the best waitress! We started off with guacamole, chicharron and tostones and shared a Jalea. Everything was delicious! Their guacamole was fresh and creamy, the Jalea had a little bit of everything; fish, calamari, shrimp and yuca fries. Both portions were definitely worth it and were so filling we had to "walk it off." The menu is massive so there is definitely something for everyone!

Yelp
Tozton is such a wonderful place when considering good Peruvian food as well as a mix of Colombian and Ecuadorian food. You get your moneys worth when it comes to the delicious food. Super wonderful space with a nice ambient environment the stuff are lovely and very attentive to their clientele. I would highly recommend this place if you want some delicious and tasty food.

Yelp
Service sucks- Walked in to be seated and one of the waitresses pointed to a overly small table for two and I said it was two small so she pointed to another area same table larger seat, I said excuse me may I please sit in the booth with my partner we're big body wise and order plenty of food the table itself wouldn't hold the food we order. She just stared and laughed with the other waitresses. Disgusting customer service!

B T.

Yelp
Glad to have had the food live up to expectations here. Though not in the busiest area and therefor potentially underrated, a great spot to visit. Glad to see them offer a wide menu of Peruvian and Colombian dishes, and to do them well--plenty of good competition in the area. Reliable and worth a try.

Yelp
Tozton has been my go to ever since I've moved to Astoria back in the fall of 2023. The best part of Tozton is that you don't have to break your bank to have an amazing lunch or dinner. And now that I no longer live in the neighborhood I always stop by whenever I get a chance. Thank you Tozton for all the wonderful dishes this past year. I had to come and leave them this as a token of my gratitude. I've slowly watched them grow as I tried all almost all of their menu. Natalia and crew hold it down every time with their attentiveness and hospitality. Always taking their time explaining each dish. If you ever feel hungry and don't know what to choose this spot right here will cure your hunger. Their aesthetic makes it so much fun to have a drink especially with their vibrant colors and music. They're what I call a triple A restaurant: affordable, accommodating and amicable. Here's to many more years swinging by! Salud! Oh btw their happy hour is by far one of the best too: you'll be surprised how amazing their drinks taste too. Don't forget to ask about their specials you won't regret it.

Nicole D.

Yelp
As much as I wanted to give this place a high rating, the wait is just not it. I got here on a Saturday night with my bf at 7pm and we were seated immediately. It was almost a full house but the majority of the tables at a glance had gotten their food already. We put in our order almost immediately after being seated but our food did not come out until an hour later.. at 8:15pm. Given that we just ordered 2 entree, the wait was pretty ridiculous. However good the food is, doesn't justify wait an hour after putting in the order. Also, the food was just ok.

Yelp
Tozton is a great (new) little spot! I'll definitely be back. I came with a friend for a late Sunday brunch and the food & drinks did not disappoint. I ordered a classic pisco sour and it was super refreshing, especially for a warm day. We started with a pastelitos sampler (plantain & cheese, plantain & beef, beef, and chicken). For one person 4 pastelitos would be a lot, but splitting them with two was an awesome choice. We loved all four, but our favorites were beef & cheese, and the chicken. If you're thinking on doing the sampler with a group, do yourselves a favor and each split each pastelito. You don't want to miss out on any of the flavors! My friend ordered ceviche and was really excited about it (I'm not a fish eater). I had the pabellon and was blown away. The portion sizes are more than generous. I suspect a pair of light eaters could split something like the pabellon and both go home quite happy (especially if they started with a pastelito). We hadn't planned on doing dessert (and I hadn't *planned* on getting a second pisco sour) but we had to with how good the food. The tres leches cake was fantastic and, again, a perfect size for splitting.

Tommy S.

Yelp
I got the Chualafan is tasted pretty good and was a pretty big portion. But the service was terrible, I never got my water refilled, and the waiter just stood behind the counter the entire time. Worst of all, when the check came, an 18% tip was sneakily added, then a screen popped up asking for an additional tip, clearly trying to trick you into double-tipping. Come on, do better.

Glyn G.

Yelp
This South American fusion spot was full of ambiance and flavor dont be fooled by their street view . empanada sampler was delish they were so large and washed down with a mango pina colada. Warm attentive service a must visit !!

Yelp
The food is very good and the ambience is amazing. The service is top notch. If you are in Astoria neighborhood, I would recommend you check it out.

Liang Z.

Yelp
We shared two dishes. Arroz con Mariscos was my favorite. I will definitely come back for it again Pabellon was good also, especially the shredded beef. Definitely will recommend to friends and will come back often

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Every single dish I've had here has been delicious. They have a surprisingly wide South American cuisine range for its size. Every Saturday my mom and I go out for dinner and this is the one restaurant she asks me to return to. We definitely approve and encourage your visit here.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk past it and that's a shame because it's actually really good. I had the flyer at home for a few weeks now and wanted to have a date night there for a while but it was never the right time. Finally got around to it and to my surprise it was a hit. The place has been open now for 3 months but only has 1 review and the business is unclaimed on Yelp. It's only 3 blocks from my house on (Broadway between 43rd n 42st) so very close.....We started off with 4 empanadas $16 = two chicken, 1 shredded beef & 1 plantain+ guava. All of them were really good especially the chicken, yum yum yum. We also ordered the fried calamari $18 which was a little on the gummy side but tasted good and had lots of flavor + it came with its own side (delicious yucca fries) We told the hostess about the calamari and she told us they would improve on it....For drinks we ordered 2 juices slurpee like drinks, really good and refreshing. Passion Fruit $6 & Strawberry $6. For our meals we ordered the Chaulafan $23 & my boy ordered the Chaufa de Mariscos $24. Both were banging and the portions were huge, the plates don't look like much but once you mix it up you see how much you're getting. It's a lot of food. Everything was delicious, I really hope they do well because I would love to come back...Overall it's a great new spot to have a hefty good lunch or a full dinner. Def going home with leftovers and full....Con = I would say their prices for Steak / Seafood is really high considering other restaurants in the area. If you just order a main course it's a lot more cost effective because their prices can be on the higher side but it's quality food I think. Our total was $100 for 2 we left $20 cash tip.

Yelp
The food , drinks, and service were wonderful. I highly recommend to anyone who wants Peruvian / Venezuelan food to try Tozton out.

Rodney M.

Yelp
Incredible food and incredible service. Definitely recommend going if you're in the mood for some tostones or seafood rice

J. N.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service. Drinks were phenomenal the coconut strawberry was amazing. Only wish there was a lunch special or the plates were priced where you can get multiple things and not a full order. Like a single empanada, etc.

jason L.

Yelp
Came by for an early dinner on a Saturday night. This place is a little outside the busy main Astoria area. The outside looks very minimalistic you wouldn't know it's Peruvian just passing by. From the drinks to the entree, everything was tasty and portioned well although slightly on the pricier side. One cocktail, fruit drink, arepa small dish, ceviche mixto, and entree came out to $100 after tip.

Jadira A.

Yelp
what a beautiful experience! dinner here was so peaceful and cute. the food tasted amazing but most of all our waitress was very kind.
