The Best Boba in Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley | Eater LA

"TP Tea, short for Taiwan Professional Tea, is a subsidiary of Chun Shui Tang, the Taiwanese tea house widely credited with inventing boba milk tea. The brand emphasizes traditional drinks with reduced sweetness, allowing the authentic tea flavors to shine. Beyond its traditional boba drinks, TP Tea offers unique toppings like hojicha coffee jellies and QQ noodles — a slightly less chewy, noodle-shaped version of tapioca. The signature tie guan tin milk tea, made with a premium roasted oolong, boasts a bold, smoky flavor. Other favorites include the strawberry milk tea, passion fruit green tea, pu-erh milk tea, and the premium green tea latte. This latte uses tea leaves that are repeatedly infused with the fragrance of jasmine flowers — a process called aromatization — to enhance the tea’s floral aroma and flavor." - Kristie Hang

Been to this TP Tea location a couple times now, slowly working my way through the menu like it’s a side quest. The Sunshine Ice Tea is actually pretty solid, super fresh and the pineapple tastes like actual pineapple, not the canned stuff soaking in syrup since 1998. Only wish we could adjust the ice level, but here we are. Tried the Four Season Osmanthus and… yeah, that one’s a skip for me. Weak tea, weak osmanthus…overall just weak vibes. I was gonna get boba the other day but they ran out (tragic), which is wild because their boba is usually one of the good ones. Ended up trying the cube pearl instead and shockingly loved it. Unexpected win of the day. Fantastic Fruit Tea lives up to its name, and the chia seeds? A bonus I didn’t know I needed in my life. Had the Tie Guan Yin milk tea once and wished I got the fresh milk version. The milk powder just doesn’t vibe with me feels like the tea and milk are in two different relationships. Overall, solid spot with some hits, some misses, and a pineapple tea that might just pull me back again.

I think TP Tea will and will have time to redeem, but my friend drove up from Chula Vista to get boba with me about two weeks ago and TP ran out of boba. And the drink I got, I feel, was good but slightly overpriced and a little bit too ice-y. However, it's such an attractive venue and I was quite impressed when I entered, and I'll be sure to return in the future.

I’m so excited that TP tea has come to San Diego after hearing so much about it from Orange County. I came on a Saturday night and there was a long line out the door but it moved quickly with 2 self order kiosks. Drinks took about 10 minutes to come out. The black sesame iron goddess - this had a pleasant strong flavor of black sesame milk and isn’t too gritty. My husband’s favorite. Milk tea boba - the black tea flavor actually shines through an we both liked this a lot. The boba had a good soft and chewy texture. I really enjoyed this one. I’m a fan and want to go back to try more drinks! Parking is plentiful in the large lot. This plaza will be getting a Trader Joe’s and Home Goods so may get more crowded in the future.

Our newest and favorite tea shop! Been here many times since soft opening. TP stands for Taiwan Professional. You have to get the QQ noodle over boba or get both! You’ll find QQ noodle specifically only at TP locations. They are same as boba but in noodle strand shape. Their tea base is ultra quality, bold and strong. We have tried: -TGY Family Milk tea - they steep the loose teas and I love how you could taste the quality and strength. It was strong. Had a lot of toppings that I’m not into. Next time, I’ll just get the milk tea alone. -Mango matcha latte - It was blended and thick but once it melted, the drink was refreshing with the mango. Different than strawberry. -Strawberry milk tea smoothie - I couldn’t tell if there were any tea in this one but for sure hit the spot on a hot day with the strawberry fruitiness. -Classic milk tea with QQ noodle topping - not sure if it’s the same drink base as TGY family milk tea because the quality of tea in this one wasn’t the same as the TGY. Could be a batch thing or different person making it. Still good and QQ noodles are so fun to slurp. -Golden Osmanthus Aiyu Lemonade- I’m a milk tea lover not fruit tea but by far I loved this! Reminded me of salted plum drink. -Brown sugar boba fresh milk tea - very few places make brown sugar that I like and I’m happy to say this is top 5. -Winter melon fresh milk tea - out of all the drinks, this one was my least favorite. I didn’t get that earthy caramelized melon flavor. Overall, great location, lots of parking. The service is super quick and they could handle the crowd during soft opening. Not many tables indoor but there are plenty outside from their neighbors. We’ll be back many more times.

Google
TP Tea is hands down one of my new favorite boba spots! I tried the Golden Osmanthus with Lemonade and wow—absolutely bomb! The flavor is so refreshing and perfectly balanced, and the aiyu jelly that comes with it takes it to the next level. Even though the shop was pretty busy, my drink still came out quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. Great drinks, solid service, and definitely worth coming back for!

Google
This place is fantastic! The drinks are creative and flavorful. The staff is even better than the drinks. They were so kind and helpful to my daughter who came in with me right as they were closing. They were able to get her order in right closing on what seemed to be a long shift. Highly recommend, this spot is the perfect addition to Clairemont Towne Square!

Google
Had the tie guan yin w/foam and the basic milktea Tgy I wasn't a big fan, it tasted ok but really one dimension, almost like a powder mix, not to say that it is 'cause I saw they made the tea separately. When you drink it, the only thought is "yep taste like a tgy milktea" Basic milktea here was a lot better imo, tasted a lil different from most basic milktea I've had. A slightly smoky taste with some chocolately flavor, like someone added Milo into a milk tea. In term of basic milk tea this might be my favorite of the whole Claremont convoy area, competing with bopomofo for me. Edit: on the sweeter side, I got 50% sweet and it was good but might get 25% next time

Google
A newly opened Taiwanese bubble tea shop didn't seem to have any special promotions. My friend and I ordered Tieguanyin milk tea, which tasted somewhat like the bubble tea from our childhood. My friend said drinking it might cause insomnia at night, so it seems the tea flavor is really strong.

Ed L.

Yelp
Drink tastes good, but the portion of coffee jelly is quite small. Wish there was more!

Yelp
Amazing service! Truly seem so dedicated to boba craft. Offered any alterations that customers requested. Drinks were served exceptionally fast :)

Yelp
I was super excited to see that TPTea had opened in San Diego. This has been my favorite boba place ever since I was in high school! I've been a few times since then and have had both fantastic drinks and service. The staff here is super friendly and very communicative with how long it would take for the drinks to come out. So far, I have gotten the strawberry milk tea (my absolute favorite), the black sesame iron goddess and the jelly milk tea. The boba pearls are perfectly chewy and not overly sweet. I love how fresh everything tastes and the quality of the ingredients they use. As with many other boba shops, you can adjust your sweetness and ice levels for most drinks. Parking here is plentiful! I have not had any issues with finding any parking, and I like how there are so many different restaurants and shops to hang around. From the times I have come here, their online ordering was not in place yet so you can only order at the counter or the kiosk in person. I definitely recommend coming by here if you have not stopped by already.

Yelp
TP Tea just opened and it's already one of my new favorite boba spots! This is a well-known brand from Taiwan. I tried a few drinks and enjoyed them all, especially the Taiwan Classic Milk Tea with QQ Noodle, boba, and grass jelly. Such a fun mix of textures. It can be a meal replacement with all the toppings in it. I'm usually more of a milk tea girly, but their fruit teas are refreshing and perfect when you want something lighter. The Tie Guan Yin Milk Tea was also really smooth and aromatic. For sweetness, 80% is perfect for me. If you're someone who doesn't like things too sweet, I'd recommend going lower. Service was friendly and fast. There are only a few tables for seating, so it's more of a grab-and-go spot, which works great since it's right in Clairemont Town Square. Perfect place to grab lunch nearby and swing by after for some boba.

Yelp
TP TEA @ Clairemont Parking is available out front, is free and available. It is shared in a plaza with other restaurants and stores! My friend found this spot on Yelp, and since it was highly rated, we were really excited to check it out. From the plaza, I immediately loved how bright and welcoming it looked, it had such a great vibe. They offer both self-checkout and in-person ordering, which I thought was super convenient. I ordered their new Lychee Pearl Cube Green Tea (80% sugar, light ice), while my boyfriend went with their Original Thai Tea with boba. Our total came out to about $14, pretty normal pricing at around $7 per drink. The bathrooms are located outside on the left side of the alley, and you'll need a code to get in, so I recommend asking a staff member if you need to use it. Our drinks came out in about 10 minutes, and we grabbed a table inside. There are around four tables available, the space was clean, comfortable, and had a bright, lively ambiance. As for the drinks, they were delicious! I loved my lychee tea because it wasn't overly sweet or strong. The lychee pearls were a fun mix between jelly and boba, which added a nice texture. Overall, I'd definitely come back. The drinks were high-quality, the service was easy and friendly, and the atmosphere was great. Plus, Claremont is such a nice area, so I highly recommend stopping by if you're looking for a good boba spot!

Yelp
Large parking lot, easy to find parking. You walk in and order at the kiosk. They don't usually have anyone manning the register unless it's busy. It's credit card only. Staff was super helpful and friendly. I tried to order a matcha and a pineapple drink but they said they were out of both so went with their recommendation of a different citrus tea. It was blended which was odd because it said iced tea. It was super bitter and I did not like the flavor. It was pricey at $7.50. Boba was good/fresh at least.

Yelp
If you're looking for a Local Bubble tea spot with options, TP Tea's got OPTIONS. Extensive menu with teas (pure tea drinks or mixed with fruit; milk teas; matcha series; green/oolong), blended drinks, coffee, seasonal menu items, & more! Sweetness and ice level can be adjusted as well as various toppings consisting of boba, cheese foam, jellies, taro paste. I ordered mango matcha which was a 9/10 rating. Solid bubble tea spot in Clairemont if you're avoiding the Convoy area.

Yelp
TP Tea San Diego is a fresh new addition to the local boba scene and I'm toooootallly here for it (Especially all the friends that know how I get excited for a brand new boba spot). The space has a clean, modern vibe that feels bright and welcoming, perfect for grabbing a drink and hanging out. My first visit, I tried the Osmanthus Oolong, which didn't quite hit the mark for me; I usually love that floral depth, but this version felt a bit muted. That said, I came back and ordered the TGV Family Milk Tea (with all the fixings and toppings), and wow it was too incredible. Creamy, chewy, flavorful and most importantly - strong tea flavor. Service is always super friendly and most importantly faaaast esp for the volume of orders. I'm excited to keep exploring what they offer and I'll definitely be back for more. If you're into Taiwanese tea and love discovering new boba spots, TP Tea is a total winner. Also a video of my first experience: https://www.instagram.com/urbancell_gastronomy/reel/DNw6nIvYgX0/?hl=en

Yelp
I got the BOGO lychee cube pearl fruit tea 80% sweet and less ice. I fell in love with their toppings, their lychee cube pearl has a satisfying texture that is somewhere between the chewiness of boba and the pop of crystal boba. The drink was not too sweet yet was satisfying, I recommend you to try this drink if you enjoy lychee! The store was clean and the servers were good, I give TP tea a 4/5.

Yelp
Love, love, love this new tea spot in Clairemont Town Square! Directly from Taiwan, the boba is prepared perfectly - soft but not overcooked, and the teas are yummy! The menu offers a great selection of fruit teas like passion fruit green tea and strawberry milk tea to the classic four seasons tea and other delights like wintermelon lemonade and Thai tea brûlée tornado. We've been three times in five days and have tried something new every time. So far everything has been delicious! A welcome addition to the neighborhood this has quickly become a family favorite!

Yelp
I am so happy that TP tea has made its way to San Diego. I have been a fan since my Bay Area days and have missed them dearly. My go to drink is the iron goddess drink with boba or grass jelly. It's so good I haven't really explored their other menu options! Welcome to SD TP Tea!

Yelp
It was just a matter of time before a boba tea shop opened in the row of food/drink vendors at the Clairemont Town Square. TP (Taiwan Professional) Tea debuted in late August with a long line of customers waiting to redeem the BOGO promotion that's typical for the soft opening of such a business. I tried to visit during that initial weekend, however there was a sign posted that the shop was closed to family and friends only. I returned the following week after ironically visiting a branch of this chain in the SF Bay Area. With the nearby movie theater now closed, the parking situation in the lot became even easier with fewer vehicles in this section of the plaza. The inside of the suite had minimal seating with a few small tables to the right when you entered. The menu was spread across five screens. One of the unique items was the QQ topping which was noodle-shaped boba instead of pearls. You could still get boba in its traditional bubble form if so desired. I picked two drinks for my order, the Taiwan Classic Milk Tea and the Four Seasons Osmanthus Ice Tea. The first one included boba, QQ noodle, and grass jelly as toppings. That's more than I normally would request, but for $6.95 the price was a good value. I learned that I wasn't a fan of the noodle topping because of its slippery texture. The QQ noodle also didn't have the same chewiness as the pearls did. The second one had a stronger tea flavor which I preferred. There were about half a dozen customers ahead of me when I arrived. The staff did an adequate job of preparing my products in a timely manner. I happened to run into a fellow Yelper so we chatted while waiting for our respective teas. I gave my initial visit to TP Tea a four star rating.

Yelp
Good parking, clean store, and quick service. Visited on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy. You order at the self-kiosk. My friend ordered the Tie Guan Yin milk tea and I ordered the same but fresh milk. We both got 30% sweet which we felt was a good sweetness. Hers was a bit more sweet from the non-dairy mix they use instead of fresh milk. The tea was strong and bold which was surprising! 30% is definitely a good sugar level if you don't prefer your drinks overly sweet. I'd come back again
google avatar

Yelp
Overall, great service and great tea. I would say I'm happy that there's a Boba place open so close to my house. The store itself is decorated so creatively with funny and cute Boba's flying around. I have to give it to the service because one of our drinks was chosen mistakenly, and they were kind enough to remake another drink. The taste was on point. I got the strawberry smoothie and I definitely want to try the Maltese later but for some reason I want to follow the yelp popular drinks and try that but I will be back. I think it's worth the trip and you are definitely getting a good amount of tea for what you pay for there is also a self service kiosk so if the line is too long, you can always order there too.

Yelp
Came here during their second day of grand opening and very busy. Located in a plaza so there's plenty of parking. They were offering a BOGO deal for certain drinks. The whole process from lining up and getting our drinks took 1 hr. They did have some samples of their milk tea to try while we were waiting in line. Their place was clean and cute! We ordered the fantastic fruit tea 30% sugar and got the boba milk tea 30% sugar for free. It was delicious! Make sure to lower the sweetness level, one of the workers inform us that their drinks were on the sweeter side. My bf loves very sweet things but he said 30% for his milk tea was perfect. Overall would come back when there's less crowds
google avatar

Yelp
Came here around 6:30ish on a Tuesday. No wait, and there's a self service kiosk (if you want pics of the drinks). My friend got 3 drinks and I got two drinks, 1 for the day later + extra for another friend. I got the Fantastic Fruit Tea with cube pearls and the Kyoto Uji Matcha with Strawberry. I thoroughly enjoyed my fruit tea, I did 80% sugar and honestly could go to 25 or 50%, as the fruit is sweet enough. I love having chia seeds for extra fiber in my sweet treat! The cube pearls are super fun too. Sadly they ran out of crystal boba when we ordered. Love the decor of the place! The mascot is super cute, and the lighting is bright but not harsh. Super cozy with a few tables/chairs if you want to sip.

Yelp
New boba shop located at Clairemont Square. This is a very nice shop located in a plaza with an abundance of parking. There are limited seating inside and outside. The drinks come in one size, and you can adjust the ice and sweetness level. I had the strawberry smoothie and it was tasty. I do recommend trying the boba mango milk tea smoothie! I can say that the caffeine definitely did keep me up lol. I can see this place staying for a long time, as there are no other boba shops within that area of Clairemont. You can order at a kiosk, or you can have a face-to-face interaction at the register. Sometimes the worker is faster, as they are used to navigating the screen faster than we can order a drink. I would try this place again if I were in the area.

Yelp
Came to TP Tea during their grand opening weekend. They had a BOGO deal, so the line was stretched around the building. It took about 2 hours from standing in line to getting my beverage. That's also due to people cutting in line. So for 4 people who cut in line in front of me, that was an additional 8 drinks they had to make minimum. As far as the business itself, staff were friendly, professional, and drinks were tasty. I love that since the line was long, they were constantly giving out mini samples for people to try. Overall, great place. Would love to visit here again when the lines aren't too long.

Yelp
Glad there's a TP Tea in San Diego now! Known for their tie guan ying tea which is delicious and their QQ noodle topping. Chewy and shaped like a noodle, boba alternative. The tea jelly and golden jelly are also good. Service was friendly and fast. Inside there's a few tables and lots of parking in the lot.

Yelp
TP Tea is much loved in OC, so I couldn't believe my eyes and ears when I saw that they just landed right here in SD! This was one of my go-to boba spots in college. I got their Jasmine Green Tea Cheese Cream Foam (50% sweet) and my friend got their Mango Fresh Milk Tea. The Jasmine Green Tea Cheese Cream Foam was pretty good! It had a nice, strong tea taste that shone through. The cheese cream foam was a bit lacking for me, it tasted kind of like regular cream... The Mango Fresh Milk Tea was so refreshing! You can tell that they use real mango- bonus points for the pulp. The interior is quite spacious for a boba spot with plentiful seating lining the walls. I wouldn't recommend it as a study spot just yet since their soft opening phase is drawing in quite the crowd.

Yelp
I enjoyed a MANG NADA ! Amazing and freshly made ! U can adjust the sugar -- I went full throttle. The service was great, welcoming & fast. The ambiance was clean , professional and fun! The line grew as the day continued ! GOOD LUCK TP TEA !

Yelp
I always frequented the Cupertino location so when TP Tea opened up here, I had to give it a try. Drink quality is still fantastic and the depth of the tea flavor is great. Drink does not taste watered down and the texture of the toppings is perfect. Only comment I have is the drinks run on the sweeter side. I got 30% sugar and it tasted like 75% Sweetness. My guess is because the topping is sweet as well. Other than that, the consistency is good overall. The shop has limited seating but it's very nice and clean, service is great as well. Very kind gentleman handing out orders. Will definitely be coming back. Overall rating: Food: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Menu: 10/10 Restaurant Vibes: 10/10 Price to Overall Dining (POD): 10/10

Yelp
TP Tea is located in the Claremont Town Square, former home of the now defunct Reading Cinemas. Parking is a breeze. They were still running a soft opening and I was overall impressed. The line was consistently out the door but the workers were dialed in and friendly. My cashier was particularly cheerful which made me feel right at home ordering. I got the Sunshine Iced Tea with Golden Jelly at an 80 percent ice level. This was the ideal sweetness, allowing me to enjoy the rich pineapple and orange notes. I enjoyed the fruit chunks in the tea as well. It did take around 15 minutes to get my drink but the drink order was correct and the orders were built in the correct chronological order. I'll be back to try the milk teas. The interior is clean and well decorated with cute bobas on the walls that make for a great photo prop. Seating is limited. TP Tea had been a mainstay in my boba rotation when I would visit the Bay Area, so I am thrilled to be able to enjoy this treat conveniently in San Diego. We are now living in an abundance of top tier boba in San Diego.

Yelp
Love the extensive menu, and love the ambiance inside! Super light and airy and there's plenty of tables to sit and catch up! I wish they made the line hug the wall rather than have it at the center of the store since it's hard to have convos or hangouts if you have people hovering over you at all times. The drinks are delicious, the milk tea is perfectly strong and caffeinated, little taste of creamer which is great! I also got the mango milk- that was delicious! I was also offered some milk alternatives so that's awesome. I first drank the drank the tea back in Seattle and I remember I just couldn't sleep that night, the milk tea isn't as strong which is good and perhaps next time I will get a much stronger tea! The service is quick to order, however there is a bit of a wait time for the drinks, but I'm sure that will work itself out for the real opening. There's plenty of free parking and def will come back again to try other drinks!

Yelp
Drinks: mango passion smoothie (7/10) - tastes refreshing, fruity, nice texture and isn't icy tie guan yin tea cheese cream foam (7/10) - the cheese cream foam was good! got 80% sweetness but should've done regular 100% because it ended up not being sweet enough and that's surprising coming from me since i don't have a huge sweet tooth! there wasn't a strong tea taste but it was definitely there! decent drink TGY tamily milk tea (8/10) - SO FILLING! It felt like i was eating a meal because it was filled with toppings such as coffee jelly, boba, and pudding. This one's my favorite! i got 50% sweetness and it was perfect for me. this way, the milk tea wasn't too sweet and overpowered the toppings that were already adding sweetness to the drink. Service: They're so sweet and they all collectively greet you the moment you walk into the store. They're super helpful and patient considering there is so many options to look at on the menu. Ambiance: It's a bright and clean store with cute designs/decor on the wall with their logo. there's limited seating as well.

Yelp
This was my first time here. I came here because I saw their Soft Opening sign. It was a great choice. For being a new spot. It was very busy. The staff were hustling to get to the orders out. Drinks are a reasonable price. A great thing about this place, is the control of the sweetness. You can ask for a reduction of sweetness. For example, you can say, I'll take 50% less sweetness. These drinks are outstanding, but on the sweet side. It's a little small as far as space inside. But it has a clean simple vibe. I will come back.

Yelp
TP Tea's hype is real. There was a line going out the door, even though it was about half an hour before closing. I like the cute boba decorations that are on the wall. There are also a few small tables to sit at. On the menu, there were some top recommended drinks that came with photos so if you have a hard time deciding, getting the recommended favorites is always a good idea. I decided to get the Taiwan Classic Milk Tea ($6.95) which came with boba, qq noodle, and grass jelly. I got it with 80% sweetness and less ice. I like how there were so many toppings that came with it for a pretty good size and price. It was a satisfyingly creamy drink, and someone actually stopped me when I was walking out to ask which drink I got. Sometimes, I prefer to get oat milk or soy milk in my boba. So, one downside is that you can only get a milk substitute for certain drinks (Fresh Milk Tea-tea latte, Matcha, coffee, and smoothies).

Yelp
The customer service at this spot is on point. The man behind the counter was super sweet and personable. The inside was super clean and spacious. Loved the decor inside so cute. I would definitely recommend coming here as they have so many drinks to pick from. Thank you TP Tea for your hospitality.

Yelp
Highly anticipated Taiwanese boba shop that definitely did not disappoint. Here's my take on some of the flavors: * QQ Noodles: This is place is known for this topping, it's like a translucent elongated boba, but chewier in texture. I LOVE this topping * Oolong milk tea: One of my favorite drinks, and surprisingly hard to find a decent one at a lot of boba places. This one has that perfect balance of creamy, nutty, and aromatic flavor * Matcha Strawberry Milk Tea: Aesthetically pleasing and has a perfect mix of all three flavors * Strawberry and Mango smoothie: I believe you can make this a milk tea or caffeine free for the kiddos. My son's in love with both these flavors and he's not a fruit-eating type of child! Overall, very well organized, efficient with orders and super attentive staff. I'm so glad they've opened up this location in SD, it'll by my #1 go-to boba place from now on!

Yelp
TP tea soft opening! While we waited in line, we were given samples of their signature milk tea and osmanthus tea both at 30% sugar. We were recommended 30% sugar for milk teas and 50% for fruit teas. I got the Taiwan Classic milk tea because I wanted to try their QQ noodle - it felt like an in between of a boba and jelly. If you're looking for something different, would recommend to give it a try.

Yelp
Excited to see this boba shop open here after hearing about it in OC. Nice decor, some seating inside, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Ended up with a Jasmine milk tea with the QQ noodles (chewy with a boba flavor?) which was very good. Will be back to try of their drinks!

Yelp
I love TP Tea in Irvine and I'm so excited they opened a branch in San Diego! We don't have much good boba here so I was really excited, however I think they still have some kinks to work out since it's still soft opening. Service was great and the wait was pretty quick. I got my usual Fresh Mango Milk drink with boba. The boba was way too chewy/hard for me and it only got harder as it sat in the drink. In addition to that, nearly half my cup was boba so I was basically just chewing 90% of the time. The texture of the boba and the amount needs to be adjusted in my opinion. But other than that the drink flavor is consistent!

Yelp
TP Tea recently opened up and I had the chance to try it when a friend was visiting. She loves this place and was excited to have me try it out. I got the fantastic fruit tea with Aiyu Jelly with 50% sweetness. The drink was very refreshing and the jelly was a fun texture. Next time for the topping I'm going to try the QQ noodles! I would definitely recommend trying this place out if you enjoy boba. The service was quick and friendly and their mascot is adorable.

Yelp
I came to TP Tea for their grand opening after hearing so many good things from friends, and I was excited to finally try it. I even came back three times on the first day before the line finally shortened and I was able to grab their BOGO offer. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte and got the Family Tie Guan Yin with boba, coffee jelly, and pudding for free. My husband got the winter melon Tie Guan Yin and also the Family Tie Guan Yin for his free drink. The strawberry matcha latte was honestly really disappointing, there was no matcha flavor at all and super watered down. On the other hand, the Family Tie Guan Yin has quickly become a favorite. It's so good that every time we've gone back, at least three people in my family orders it. Just from my Snackpass account, we've already ordered 26 drinks since they opened! The winter melon Tie Guan Yin is also really refreshing and a hit with our family. Some of the other drinks have been a miss though, the black sesame and Thai tea were really watered down and bland. The Thai tea especially had no flavor, and since you can't adjust the ice level, it ended up being mostly ice. However, their Taiwan milk tea, however, is solid, so we've mostly been sticking to the milk teas. The shop itself is clean, has about six tables to sit at, and parking is super easy. Plus, it's in one of my favorite plazas with TJ Maxx, Main Chick, and Vons, which makes it a convenient stop.

Yelp
TP Tea finally opened up in San Diego with all the different competitors around the area! I've been to their other shop in Seattle, and loved it! Excited to have one here especially with their grand opening! It's located next to the L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and Cold Stone in the Clairemont Town Square on Clairemont Drive in Clairemont. There's a huge open parking lot with ample stalls around the area. I came both days on the weekend during their grand opening with different groups of friends (lol) and got to try different drinks! They were having a BOGO free drink of a selected few. I was able to try their: - TGY Family Milk Tea - the tea was very strong and delicious. Loved that the toppings did not overshadow the drink itself. Definitely a favorite. - Thai Milk Tea - wished there was more of the Thai tea seep as I like my strong teas. But not bad overall. - Tie Guan Yuan Tea Latte - I'm not sure if it's because of the fresh milk but it overpowered the tea bit and made it almost taste as if it was bland. I did taste the tea but it was eh because of the milk, I feel. - Sesame Iron Goddess Cube Pearl Milk Tea - this was okay as I couldn't customize removing the cube pearls in my drink. I don't think I got the full experience of the drink as I didn't shake the drink to mix the black sesame on the bottom with the pearls. Instead, I removed majority of the pearls and the black sesame combined! Definitely next time, I'd have to give this another try without the pearls. - Mango Smoothie Boba - again, the boba couldn't be removed and there were a lot of them. The smoothie was just okay. Very refreshing but felt there was too much ice blended with it. Overall, a solid boba spot with strong tea which I loved. I definitely will be back in the future (and ask for the removal of boba lol) for more of their drinks.

Yelp
We came for the grand opening. The promo was buy 1 get 1 free. Line was long. Instead of waiting in line we ordered online and then waited about 30 min to get our drinks. it was worth it. We ordered the matcha strawberry latte and mango fresh milk tea, and got the boba milk tea and TGY family milk tea for free. Everything was very good. The mango fresh milk tea tasted like fresh mango, the TGY family milk tea had boba, pudding, and coffee jelly. I liked it a lot because it's like a coffee drink. Their boba are a bit smaller size than other boba places but they taste fresh n chewy. Great addition to this shopping complex. It's almost $8 for these drinks so a bit more expensive than other places. Lots of parking in the parking lot. Friendly service .

Yelp
TPT's Taiwan Classic Milk Tea is the new standard in Clairemont/Convoy! Boba is great but QQ Noodle & Grass Jelly put this over the top.

Yelp
I had never heard of TP tea but my friends in the Bay Area love the place, so they were excited for me upon hearing news that we were going to get one in SD. of course I then had to try it for myself. TP tea is located in an oddly empty plaza, there is a shut-down movie theater as well as several open restaurants. It has some board games and seating, though currently no working WiFi. There is some cute signage of their mascot on one of the walls. My friend and I came at off-hours so there was basically no line, though the line grew quickly after some time. I got the tie guan yin milk tea (a type of oolong) with QQ noodles, 75% sweet, and service was friendly and quick. The tie guan yin milk tea was delicious, perfectly creamy with a thick mouthfeel, but while preserving the delicate roasted flavor of the tea. I think next time, I could go even lower on the sweetness to better appreciate the flavor of the tea itself. The QQ noodles were an unexpected hit topping for me. I was worried that the longer shape would cause these noodles to suffer the same fate as lychee jelly, doomed to never get sucked up in the straw and instead languish at the bottom of your drink. On the contrary, the soft, pliable qq noodles could get easily sucked into your straw and ferried into your mouth. What's more, the noodle shape solves my frustration with boba, where my teeth keep glancing off of their rounded shape. These noodles really allow for good firm bites, and I do love my drink with a bit of chew. I noticed several other unique toppings that I will be sure to try out next time. TP tea is iconic for a reason, and I am so glad it has opened a branch in SD. It is not conveniently located for me, but I will definitely find excuses to be in the area so that I can try more of their drinks and toppings!

Yelp
Still their soft opening so was not crowded. The place is brand new so everything was super clean. The cashier was super nice to answer my question and let us try the square boba which I've never had before. I ended up with the black sesame square pearl milk tea after sampling and it was so good! If you like black sesame flavor this one is it! Sesame milk tea was very fragrant and I recommend it at 50% sweetness, the square boba is very similar to regular boba without the black sugar flavor. The tie guan Ying we have had at their other locations so it was the same - would recommend 80% sweetness on this one.

Yelp
Great drinks and excellent service! The staff was friendly and quick, and there were plenty of seats to relax and enjoy. I really liked the boba, and my wife loved the cheese foam topping. The Tie Guan Yi cheesefoam had a very strong tea flavor and the boba in the Thai tea was very good, soft and chewy. The Taiwanese-inspired décor on the walls added a nice touch. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Grand opening 9/13/25! The moo! my taro drink is made with fresh taro paste, not too sweet! It's not made with powder, that's important. The taro was thick and they were definitely not stingy with it! They had samples of their strawberry milk tea and milk tea 50% sugar for the opening, and that sealed the deal for me. It is a delicious milk tea, I dare say it may surpass my current favorite place in San Diego... and I don't usually like boba but theirs was very fresh and chewy. (It was a BOGO deal for grand opening so I had to get the boba milk tea) Grand opening: The first 50 people each day can pick a free tote (two sizes) - I picked the large one. The print on it is already kinda falling off but that's simply cuz of the material of the bag, which is also shedding constantly on me... the small tote might be good as a lunch bag. They had an ordering kiosk on the side but also one cash register. I will be coming back!!!

Yelp
I've been waiting for months to check this place out. There's a lot of boba shops all over town but not many use real tea leaves and simply have premade powder mixes and artificial flavorings. TP Tea is the real deal and utilizes OG methods you'd expect from a legit Taiwanese bubble tea spot. This is a great addition to the west Clairemont/Bay Ho area. Town Square has a lot of food offerings and now you can get your tea and sugar fix while you're at it without trekking to the Convoy area. Service was spot on. Staff are knowledgeable about their drinks and can give great reccs regardless of your palate. I can see myself coming here a few times a week with the family as the kiddos are in love and boba. Congrats to TP Tea for launching off the first shop in SD. Come by and quench your thirst with some phenomenal boba beverages.
