When I lived in the Bay Area, I used to wait 30+ minutes in line to get TP Tea at the Cupertino location and found the tea and toppings to be excellent. Since I was in Chinatown Seattle area for vacation, I had to stop by:
TP Milk Tea, 50% Sweet, Less Ice w/ Pearl ($4.95 + $0.90) - The cashier said this milk tea was made with Tieguanyin (not sure why this isn't specified on the menu). This type of tea usually has a rather floral and fragrant sweetness. This one is quite flat in comparison, with a strong milk powder taste overpowering the delicate tea notes. Half sweet was good for this drink. The boba was of the small pearl variety and was a bit firmer than how I usually prefer it.
Pearl Milk Tea, 80% Sweet, Less Ice ($5.75) - This drink, on the other hand, had the fragrance of a decent tea. It reminded me the classic bug bitten Taiwanese oolong. Surprisingly, the sweetness level at 80% didn't taste too much sweeter than 50% in the other drink. Still, as with the other drink, the boba was on the firm side.
I've been to at least a hundred more boba shops since the last time I had TP Tea, so perhaps nostalgia goggles were clouding my judgement. Or perhaps I just went here on a bad day.
