Bivouac Ciderworks Is Launching Brunch | Eater San Diego

"At Hotel Republic’s lobby bar Trade, I learned they launched two weekly live music sessions in partnership with the Acoustic Spot—Whole Note Wednesday and Friday Unwind—bringing local acoustic musicians to perform jazz, R&B, and blues from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; I also noted daily happy hour runs 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with $6 draft beer, $7 well cocktails, $8 featured wines, and a small bites menu." - Candice Woo

Stayed for a week at Hotel Republic. Trade restaurant is right next to the reception area inside the hotel. The hotel charges a daily 25$ fee and one of the perks from that is you can eat either at this restaurant or Topside on the floor above, with 25$ daily refund, even the morning you checkout - just need to charge it to your room. I was always having proper meals outside, but showed up 4 times during my stay here just to get something extra. Really liked their soup of the day - it was creamy potato the night I went. The steak fries plate is very oily and a huge size too. The breakfast burrito was okay. The hummus was really good. The staff are all very friendly.

We were staying at the hotel and with our Marriott status, we received vouchers for breakfast. Conveniently located in the hotel lobby, the service was good and the food was great. The had a good size menu with your typical breakfast items along with a handful of creative dishes. I stayed simple and ordered the Sunrise Special (choice of eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon or sausage and toast - sourdough, mulit-grain or gluten free) and my wife ordered the Daybreak Parfait (greek yogurt, poppy seeds, seasonal fruit, house made granola, berry compote). We also ended up sharing the Banana French Toast. Everything was great and prepared perfectly! Great choice if you’re staying at the hotel or even nearby!

Tried beyond meat burger for dinner, and french toast for breakfast. Both meals were 6/10, edible but flavour wasn't anything special. Service was also okay, we had one bartender at night and he was super nice, attentive. Breakfast servers were all chatting, laughing amongst themselves and didn't really care for clients. I waited almost 15 minutes for a server to take my order in the morning, and the menu isn't large nor was it busy. Overall, eat there if you must, but it's really nothing special in food or service.

Yelp
We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon and were advised our Marriott's rewards gave us a nice little discount at Trade. We went to Trade in the early evening to have a quick bite, before going a little father into downtown for drinks. We enjoyed a nice charcuterie board, which had a lot of fresh items. We only had issues with the jam, which came with the board, solely because it tasted off. We don't know if it was the contained it was placed in or the jam itself but with that said, that was the only issue we had with the food. Other than that everything was comfortable, clean and well maintained. The hotel had been recently remodeled but very unique. Overall the service was quick and the server was pleasant. The food was clean and delicious and the overall ambiance was unique and comfortable.

Yelp
$29 shrimp salad is wild. It's pretty pricey, but the hotel gives you 25$ credit daily. Service was pretty slow. 2nd visit for breakfast. Service was pretty slow. Seemed like 1 Server for the entire area and all tables were taken. Food came out pretty fast but was basically cold for some reason. Pancakes were grainy, but everything else tasted great.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast burrito this morning. And can these service employees be any nicer? They are amazing and very helpful with menu guidance Ambiance is total modern chic and you'll feel like your being spoiled as a celebrity Good price good food good service

Yelp
Had breakfast after checking out before heading home. The food was very expensive, $8 for two eggs and $8 for two small pieces of sausages. It wasn't very good either. The device was poor as well. We were at a table of 4 and 2 of us got our food 10 minutes before the other 2. My wife got a meal for $22 that included eggs, a piece of bacon, 2 pancakes and potatoes. The pancakes tasted worse than store bought box pancakes and everything else was bland. Overall, I was was very disappointed and would not recommend eating here.

Yelp
Trade is the lobby restaurant at the Hotel Republic Autograph Collection. During my short business stay, I got to try Trade for happy hour, late night bites and lunch. All three of my experiences were great. Bartenders provided prompt, professional, and helpful service. I really appreciated my bartender at lunch for advising me ordering two appetizers would probably be too much and to enjoy another glass of wine with the spectacular Tuna Tacos. This hotel offers the great benefit of a complimentary happy hour glass of wine or cocktail, which was awesome. Observed many guests not tipping on their complimentary cocktails however, which is not cool as the bartenders do a great job there. Ambiance is posh; while it can get pretty packed with corporate party guests, I could always find spot for one at the bar. And they even let me order a simple light grilled chicken breast to go late in the evening so I could have a healthy bite before my morning business meeting. Highly recommend this hotel and Trade when in Downtown San Diego!

Yelp
The service was terrible, with staff more focused on chatting and prep work than attending to customers at the bar. The food was acceptable. The same goes for the terrace restaurant.

Yelp
The hotel this resides in essentially forced me to eat here during my stay, but I was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast menu. The apple crème brûlée French toast was sweet and delicious as was the açaí bowl. What really put the açaí bowl over the top was the dollop of creamy peanut butter - it's really not your typical fast casual açaí bowl. The chef certainly puts thought and time into these dishes, with each one more delicious than the next during my stay at Hotel Republic. The atmosphere is lovely with many modern elements and a variety of seating arrangements, and their wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Overall my experience here was great - I would come here again of my own free will :)

Yelp
This restaurant is in the lobby of Republic Hotel. It has nice interior decor. We came in for brunch but had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated and another 20 minute to get food after we ordered. We ordered the "eggss anyway you want it" and acai bowl. The eggs were pretty standard but the acai bowl was amazing. We also ordered the mocha which was decent but nothing spectacular. Overall, this is a nice place to eat but only if you have time to spare!

Yelp
Breakfast: very good, but expensive. Dinner: Food is good, but dinner menu selection was limited. Service was in the slow side to get menus, etc. once I ordered, the food came quickly. Brought out by a woman I assume was the manager, who was very friendly. Good live music during dinner. Most of what the restaurant had was the convenience factor, as I am staying here for a business trip. Ambience is kind of odd, as it is literally in the hotel lobby.

Yelp
I had a great experience, in fact, I had such a great experience I had to review instantly (Sunday morning). I didn't catch our server's name but she was great! She made suggestions and answered our questions. The ambiance was pleasant, we were served promptly and our food was quick as well. Our party ordered: Farm fresh eggs, pancakes, nutella stuffed french toast, and a side of bacon. Wow everything was delicious! ... especially the pancakes I must say! Yes, everything is overpriced but I think it's worth it due to the high quality ingredients, location, and ambiance! Again our server was so nice, pleasant, and courteous! Note: I'm a Marriott titanium elite so I did get the breakfast comped but overall, I Highly recommend the restautant.

Yelp
Ordered a midnight cravings Dessert. Went and ordered at the bar downstairs around 1130ish. Disappointed they don't offer bone marrow anymore (it's still on their menu tho) We ordered: Cheesecake($10) -came with berries, and Carmel drizzle -reallly good!!! It was the perfect combo whether you took a bite with fruit or driZzle or ice cream Salted Carmel Ice Cream ($6) - came in a coffee up We had to wait awhile - but had good conversation with a fellow hotel guest. And the bartender taking our order was really nice and gave us waters while we waited. Sooo disappointed I forgot to take a picture...

Yelp
Trade is the lobby lounge and restaurant of the Hotel Republic. I love the decorations and feel of the place whenwalking in, but I feel it's too small to sit and order food in. It feels a little odd because people are also walking back and forth between the lobby doors and the elevator. With that said, we came here for drinks. The cocktail menu tries to be crafty, but the drinks weren't all that unique. I tried a gin and white wine concoction with rosemary, followed by a rum and fernet branca thing. They were okay, but not that special and pricey (as expected at a hotel) for $14. But hey, we had some vouchers to use and wanted a drink. I always saw some people here having drinks or some bites so it must not be that bad for food, but I'm guessing not a destination for people not staying here.

Yelp
The food was ok. Nothing to write home about but also not horrible. We ordered the breakfast burritos and they were a decent size.

Yelp
We ordered fries, and there was Calamari in the order that we thought was seemed like a mistake onion ring. As vegetarians, when we told the bar tender about this, his response was "Oh! I will let the chef know." and that's it. He actually laughed about it and asked who ended up breaking their Vegetarianism. Also, the happy hour menu has the same prices as the regular money. So it's wrongly advertised as "happy hour" rather than "limited menu". Rather than just transferring us through shift change, the bartender also seemed to rush us to close us our order because his shift was ending. The drinks and food tasted fine though.

Yelp
I was in a hurry for a meeting beginning at 1:15 PM nearby and wanted something quick that wasn't a sandwich. I arrived 12:40 PM. I went directly to the bar, and ordered a Tuna Nicoise Salad - the fastest item I could think to order. By 1:00 I was still waiting desperately even though everyone else's food was taken to them. People who came after me even cashed out. I finally said to the bartender, I really need to get this to go. I waited another ten minutes and he finally comes out with a box. I was so desperate to leave that I didn't open it until I was walking away. Inside, there was literally four pieces of arugula, a sprig of unknown herbs, some ratty ahi sloshed in the bottom with watery diced tomatoes, a couple of hard boiled quail eggs, and three pieces of thinly diced purple potato. For this measly, despicable meal, I paid over $30 with tax and tip. I was so angry, yet so rushed, I could not go back to demand an immediate refund. Literally one of the worst meals I have had in recent memory and the fact that I had to wait for it made it 100 times worse. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.
