NYC Grocery Delivery: A Guide to Food Shopping During Coronavirus | Eater NY

"Like other big chains, Trader Joe’s was inundated by remote orders early in the pandemic as many customers were fearful to enter stores, which added to delivery pressures and empty shelves." - Eater Staff

This location might be small but still very convenient to go to right after the mall. They currently have the seasonal items that I was looking for.

This is my go-to Trader Joe’s since it’s very close to my apartment. The staff here is always friendly, helpful, and genuinely nice, which makes shopping here a pleasant experience. I trust most of their products—especially the vegetables, meat, seafood, and dairy. Snacks and sweets are always fun to explore, and I often find something new to try when I have a sweet tooth. That said, there are a couple of downsides. Sometimes an entire shelf might be out of stock, and the fruit section can be a bit hit or miss. The store itself is on the smaller side compared to other Trader Joe’s locations, and the parking lot is also pretty limited, so it can get a bit chaotic at times. Overall, though, I really like this Trader Joe’s and do most of my grocery shopping here. It’s convenient, reliable for most essentials, and always has a cheerful vibe thanks to the great staff.

I’ve been shopping at Trader Joe’s for years, at multiple locations, and I’ve always appreciated how warm, welcoming, and kind the staff are, especially with my toddler. Every other store we’ve been to has always included her in the experience, letting her hand items to the cashier, giving her a sticker or lollipop, and making her feel seen and happy. That’s part of what makes Trader Joe’s so special. But this location? Absolutely terrible customer service. The cashier was rude and dismissive when my daughter tried to participate. He flat-out told me it would “mess him up” if she handed items while he scanned. Seriously? Multitasking is part of the job, if you can’t handle a toddler passing groceries while scanning, what do you do when there’s real commotion at the registers? Then, when she asked for a lollipop or sticker Trader Joe’s has always done for kids, he refused the lollipop and told her she had to find the animal first. She’s a toddler. Every other location understands that, but this cashier decided to make it a power trip. It was harsh, unnecessary, and upsetting for her. What made it worse is that there were two supervisors/managers nearby who clearly saw what was happening and did absolutely nothing. No kindness, no effort to turn the situation around, no customer care at all. This was hands-down the worst Trader Joe’s experience I’ve ever had. Trader Joe’s is known for its friendly, community-based culture, but this store completely missed the mark. This is how they treat families and children, I am taking my business to another location that actually values its customers.

I want to take a moment to share my positive experience during my recent visit. I was impressed by the side selection of healthy food choices available. I would like to commend your staff for being friendly and helpful.

Google
Trader Joe's is always fun to visit for grocery shopping. They always find a way to amuse the kids by either giving them coloring sheet and displaying some of the best artwork in the store or by running scavenger hunt to earn a sweet treat, or by spin the wheel on purchase above a certain order to win a fun prize or otherwise just handing over some cute stickers at checkout ☺️ it surely adds to the overall positive experience. They also have flyers that talk about seasonal products, stories and fun facts around those. I love their collection of small potted plants or bouquet. The quality of fresh produce is good too. They also sell liquor, coffee beans and some frozen stuff. Would rank this better than a Safeway visit. Trader Joe's Milpitas has ample parking and nice store layout. The restrooms are clean and staff super friendly :)

Google
Trader Joe's has a good range of products, all with excellent presentation. The vegetables are always fresh !

AD V.

Google
My place to always get fruits, vegetables and treats for my dog Nova. Staff always friendly and helpful. Never been disappointed. Its close by to home and convenient. Parking is no issue

Google
Fast, friendly service. Always a great selection of produce and flowers. Parking spots are a little tight but otherwise a good location.

Yelp
After asking for TJs in Milpitas for 20 years! Finally, very convenient location, helpful staff, good organic products & great new manager! My concerns are with cleanliness of the dairy area especially along with a string of recalls. Overall, the experience is positive as the groceries are well packed & management ensures customer satisfaction with products.

Yelp
Short Story: A small TJ's tucked right near bart and Great Mall! Long Story: I've been coming to this Trader Joe's for a 3 years now and it's always been a good experience. It's a bit smaller than the one in Fremont but it still carries all the essentials. The parking lot is also smaller than Fremont so you may not always find parking. The staff as usual is always warm and friendly. There are also some other shopping places in the same strip mall such as Starbucks and pizza. Verdict: I'm going back!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty much your straightforward, typical Trader Joe's -- friendly staff, good selection, and all the usual favorites. The only downside is that this location feels a bit smaller than others, and parking can be tricky unless you use the garage. Still, it's convenient and well-stocked, just not quite as spacious or easy to access as some other Trader Joe's locations -- that's the only reason for the four stars instead of five.

Yelp
So happy there is a Trader Joe's in Milpitas. They have it in the right location, which is at the higher end apartments on Great Mall Pkwy. Those newer apartment complexes are where the younger software engineers live; the demographics in Milpitas more likely to shop at a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. They have some unique finds that you don't typically see at a Safeway or Albertson's. There are lots of food that cater to the younger apartment living crowd; easy to heat up and quick to prepare frozen food. Some are quite tasty. They have unique brands of snacks. I enjoy their kettle style ghost pepper potato chips, pasta sauce, among other great finds. Sometime they have unique fruit. Once I came across their gumdrop grapes. Spectacular and sold out so quickly! Garage parking as well as small parking lot. I wish this Trader Joe's was bigger and had more merchandise.

Yelp
Convenient location as I live nearby and can walk to the store. Love the exotic fresh fruits here. Bought some passion fruits and they were amaizng! Produce is nicely arranged and dog treats are always in bulk. They have peonies for $9.99 and that's a dream price. They smell wonderful! Plenty of fresh potted herbs available so will be bringing those home. I have always been treated well here so no complaints. Happy!

Yelp
Went grocery shopping on a Tuesday evening, parking was plentiful in the lot, no crowds and no waiting in the store, and service was fast and friendly at the register. The place was bright, clean, and spacious, with items well stocked, and everything we purchased was fresh, with fair pricing. Got a bunch of fresh fruit, tangerine juice, dairy products, pimento cheese dip, plantain chips, and other snacks. And of course gotta love the unique variety of cookies sold here, got one of my faves, Lacey's dark chocolate almond cookies, so yummy and addicting.

Yelp
Another update! We tend to go to this Trader Joe's if we're going to be doing other errands in the area. I like that it's very new and very spread out in terms of items so there's plenty of room to walk around. We've never really had to wait for a check stand when we're here, though I guess there's always at least someone being checked out while we're the next person in line. The only thing that's horrible is the parking. Also now that there's a Starbucks in the same plaza, I think it's only going to get worse. Other than that little nit picky thing, it's been a good Trader Joe's! It's definitely one of my favorites.
google avatar

Priscilla S.

Yelp
Great service as always. The parking in this lot can be tricky as it's narrow with parking on either side. If you continue around the bend its a bigger underground lot. I love to check out the plant section and they had some cool succulents as well as your large array of flowers. Food selection was well stocked and i had such great luck here. today as I picked up a Raspberry Kringle in the bakery section. All in all another great experience at this TJ's.
google avatar

Amie N.

Yelp
i love the is location sm. i go here 1-2 a week and it has the perfect single portion of u wanna try cheaper/funnier foods but also stock up on staples. fun/jolly staff OVERALL GOOD VIBES is the gist, an adventures everytime FOOD: inclusive! all types of plant based milks, dairy, meats, frozen appetizers. I LOVE THE ALMOND MILK HERE, oat milk ice cream sandwiches, pretty bomb canned seasoned chickpeas MEALS: thai curry sauce, pad thai, KIMBAP, kale vegan pesto SNACKS: swiss choc is rly good quality, mango buttons, caccio y pepe puffs, freeze dried strawb are not sour, cashew butter covered cashews ARE DANGEROUS DO NOT GET
google avatar

Annie C.

Yelp
I feel like this location is a bit smaller than others I've been to; sometimes the fruit selection feels more limited. But I can always find my basics. The checkout people are super friendly and it feels pretty clean. The parking situation sucks at peak times, though.
google avatar

Sunil R.

Yelp
I love TJ. Good product and other snacks. This time I was there to pick up flowers for a friend I was visiting. Great choices and super friendly service and was on my way in a jiffy.
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying this Trader Joe's and will be back. One thing is it is in a complex with underground parking but at least today no issues. Extremely friendly staff that seem to really enjoy working here. Little smaller than others , but had all we needed. Clean inside and out and overall atmosphere was good. Can get a little crowded inside as it is a smaller location but glad we tried it. For sure recommend

Alissa H.

Yelp
One of the cashier with red hair, she flipped my shopping basket up side down and spread my coffee all over products. She never apologized even start judging me. She was very angry and bad attitude. I so sad that Trader's Joe usually has best customer service.... Never go this store again.
google avatar

Carol C.

Yelp
First time visiting this TJs sorry, but not a fun experience. Parking is a nightmarein that garage, i know it s mostly because people do not know how to drive!!! Then i get inside and grab a few things. Head to check out, and some how i get a clerk who s obviously having a bad day. But come on at least greet the customer (me) instead of conversing with co worker at next checkout. Guess i will stick to my friendly staff at Sprouts:-)
google avatar

Nilam P.

Yelp
Okay hear me out. Yes parking is a nightmare, but if you bypass the larger lot on the left, the smaller lot on the right almost always has a spot open. This location is always clean and well-stocked. They offer samples frequently too! The staff are all super nice, welcoming, and friendly.
google avatar

Leslie N.

Yelp
When I am trying to grocery shop for 1-2 people, Trader Joes is my spot. There is a variety of produce, meats, dairies you name it. I esp love coming here for their charcuterie options, and their frozen foods. I also love their tote bags, its super cute. This TJ location isn't my favorite because their parking is in a garage, which makes parking harder. This location is also located across great mall so many popular items run out real fast.
google avatar

Jasper C.

Yelp
I always catch myself at this location despite the small parking lot. Its location is prime for the surrounding apartments. The space is well organized and always super easy to find what you're looking for. The workers are super laid back, chill and helpful. The cashier with red hair had rang me up one morning and she was very knowledgeable about the products I bought when I had a few questions. Despite the small parking lot, I wouldn't hesitate to come through and shop this location.
google avatar

Tasha M.

Yelp
Love how well stocked this location is! There were so many chocolate gift boxes out for this holiday season too. The staff are super friendly and Santana was awesome at the register. Parking can be a bit chaotic during peak hours, so I'd recommend coming here as early as possible.
google avatar

Lloyd C.

Yelp
I am glad Trader Joe's opened up here at the Great Mall. It's closer now to me than the other stores. This location is smaller than the others, but they carry most of the essentials. Parking is trickier here, but they also have a parking garage and spots outside. Service is friendly like all their other stores!
google avatar

Ter L.

Yelp
I love me some Trader Joe's and the countless products that I absolutely adore... This particular TJ is fairly new but is smaller in size when compared to other locations. It is always tidy, fairly busy, and I am always finding products that spark my curiosity. Staff is friendly and they seem to enjoy their jobs. Extra points specifically for that because coming across genuinely happy employees is damn near unheard of nowadays. Lmao. 4 stars overall. Groceries aren't gonna break the bank hence the overall openness of trying new products because of its affordability. Shelves are unfortunately empty in multiple areas and this is always the case whenever I come for visits. With the size of the grocery store already being limited to begin with, empty shelves and lacking products really stand out here.
google avatar

Maggie G.

Yelp
I like coming here because the store is big and islands are wider than others. Parking lot available as well as parking garage. Very convenient, right across from great mall. However, their hot popular items seem to run out very fast! If you see it, grab it before it's too late!
google avatar

Wayne T.

Yelp
This is just my opinion, but I feel like this is a smaller version of a Trader Joe's. It has a nice selection, but seems to be missing some common items. The service is still up to the company standards we come to expect. I think it's a great addition to the ever growing neighborhood
google avatar

Sophia L.

Yelp
The witches brew was a perfect pair with my girl dinner I hope they bring the pumpkin spice version so I can try it next year
google avatar

Alejandra D.

Yelp
We stopped here to get snackies the night before our international flight b/c it kinda hurts my heart to pay airport prices for snacks when you can come here! I didn't realize they have a parking garage so don't be deterred if you don't find parking up front. Not sure though if you pay in the garage. Shop was clean but a bit compact I feel than most TJ stores. We stocked up on a variety of chips, peanuts (sweet and savor), nuts, sandwiches, and salads, and a wine bottle opener! We packed bottles of wine for our trip, and forgot to pack a wine bottle opener. You cannot always rely on hotels to have the things you need. and it was only $2! I was so so happy to see they have chocolate croissants, something I have never seen before at any TJs. I'm sure warmed up they'd taste even better. They double bagged our goodies and it made for the perfect carry-on :) That and my backpack, we set.

Diana N.

Yelp
I frequent this TJ location weekly. I was told they hire people for being nice and friendly, but if that's truly the case - they should fire Toan, who is rude and unpleasant.
google avatar

Benny H.

Yelp
Trader Joe's has always been an interesting grocery store. It's not the largest, and it's not overly expensive, but it does have a lot of personality. Their products are usually pretty good. They sell most of their own products, so you won't see a lot of the name brand products, but that's ok, because you really do get some quality product. Staff are always great. Parking here is a bit annoying, but it is what it is. Overall, I like the spot.
google avatar

Eddy G.

Yelp
This Trader Joe's is quite nice. A pretty substantial amount of convenient (free) parking, friendly staff, and a solid selection.

John S.

Yelp
had an extremely disappointing experience at this Trader Joe's due to a crew member named Jason. He was disrespectful and unprofessional during my visit, speaking to me in a condescending manner and showing a complete lack of customer service skills. Instead of being helpful, he was dismissive and rude, making the experience uncomfortable and unpleasant. I've always enjoyed shopping at Trader Joe's because of the friendly staff, but Jason's behavior was unacceptable. Management should address this issue to ensure that all customers are treated with the respect they deserve.
google avatar

Sandy Y.

Yelp
There's parking in the front and a parking garage as well. I thought this Trader Joe's would be big based on a lot the reviews mentioning it but it is a smaller store compared to other locations. It most likely will still have what you're looking for but options are limited. I went in on a weekday afternoon and it was less crowded.
google avatar

Malena I.

Yelp
Everyone loves TJs but this location is a fave of mine. The variety of groceries are always stocked, the store is definitely spacious, and it's less crowded compared to other TJs. It's a ground level apartment store so it's pretty tucked off, but the parking garage offers plenty of spaces for shoppers. If you're shopping at the great mall, across the street is this TJs location so definitely stop by!
google avatar

Lyn L.

Yelp
Great service and nice people. Store is in condo with lots of parking. Very clean and staff is very helpful.
google avatar

Katrina M.

Yelp
I'm an avid Trader Joe's fan, and this one is by far my favorite location that I've been to! It's not overly crowded, there's ton of parking available in the parking garage, things are always stocked up (at least when I go on week nights), and the staff is super friendly!! I always come out of this Trader Joe's super happy and excited because I have lots of food items to try.

Marcaela D.

Yelp
This location in Milpitas is fairly new so you would expect the EMPLOYEE'S to be more courteous, respectful, and just a lot nicer but instead I interacted with four different employees who we're just rude beyond all means, I understand it was early in the morning but if your not a morning person you should not be part of the opening shift in the morning. I do believe one individual that I interacted with was a manager. I like shopping here but I wouldn't recommend shopping here in the morning. Unless you want to deal with people with attitude!!!!
google avatar

Thomas L.

Yelp
This is a nice Trader Joe's. Staff here is always friendly and the store doesn't get too crowded. The inventory is always full and I can always find what I am looking for when shopping here. I also like the flower and plant selection that they have at the entrance.

Tevita V.

Yelp
First time in a Trader Joe's was told it's a little smaller then most but I was impressed by the selection and prices. They have parking outside and inside a parking garage. The place very clean and customer service I received was above and beyond. I just got out of the hospital for my knees I have two braces and a cane. A young lady opened the line for me and just for me cause I think she knew I was struggling to walk and somewhat disabled. Just very appreciative of her going above and beyond. I will now come to this Trader Joe's:
google avatar

Jane E.

Yelp
This location is new and seems like it's still in the works. I am glad as it's the closest store to me now, whereas before I had to drive to the Coleman or Los Gatos stores. I've been lucky that there was no line the few times I've come in to shop during the weekdays. It's clean... super clean at that. It's a smaller store, but it's got everything you need. Parking can be a challenge if you're not lucky finding something right away. However, it's a cute location across from the Great Mall, which is super convenient. Staff is pleasant and helpful. You can always find your go to's in the frozen section and in the aisles that you can't find anywhere else. As well as wines to try. But that's why you shop by there in the first place. For those unique finds of ethnic, gluten free, foodie type finds!
google avatar

Trinh A.

Yelp
Woo hoo a new Trader Joe's location!! This location is definitely bigger with everything more spaced apart. I wouldn't say they have any additional items than any other TJ location. Underground parking is nice. Just drive slow when you're coming towards TJ or else it's really easy to miss. They have flower vase cases you can put on your shopping carts which is super cute. They also have a iPad where you can search for items (near the last cash register).
google avatar

Charles T.

Yelp
Great spot located right by Great Mall to get groceries. The parking lot situation is a bit difficult and tight compared to other trader joe's locations but once you get the spot, you're good. The store is not huge but they pack a lot into these stores! Really friendly employees and always a great selection of produce and food at competitive prices. I go here quite often since it is close to my girlfriend's house. They are always restocking items and ensuring that there is a product out. Unfortunately, wasn't able to get the hash browns though cause it looked like they ran out. Some of my favorite items include the hash browns, the Thai fried rice, and the orange chicken from the frozen food section!
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 4 AMBIANCE: n/a VALUE: 4 The Milpitas/North San Jose area has been waiting for a Trader Joe's for many years. Finally it opened this past Friday. However if you type in the address on any GPS driving app, it will lead you straight to the Great Mall. The actual location is across the street in the Turing apartment complex. There is parking in front, but, if you miss the parking entrance, then go around the building and they have underground parking too. Otherwise a pretty standard TJ's. Just new and clean. Their staff is always helpful and the selection there can't be beat. In fact the shelves were fully stock on opening weekend.
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
I came here today, Saturday morning at 8:00 AM after the opening. The red sign and parking lot is hard to see when driving on Great Mall Parkway. It blends into Turing The Fields condos for lease sign. Front door sign was a bit hidden. Yes, small parking lot outside. People who live in the complex area will love this place. Note, there's 1-Hour off street parking available on McCandless Drive. It's actually better there if you don't mind waiting for 1-2 minutes at the street lights to cross the street and walk. Fresh and clean, social distancing protocols. Person was cleaning the carts and greeted customers. Still, this will become a popular hot spot. Very organized and space inside actually feels like less than half the space in a Grocery Outlet store. Great variety selections of products. No long lines so far. I have a feeling that this place will be overly crowded once they are known as the only Trader Joe's around here. I hope it stays like this for awhile. I think if they had a larger and more visible parking lot, then more people would come. I am grateful that they gave me some free grocery items at the checkout (free popcorn, canned olives, snack bar, and an organic can of bloody orange-orange juice). It was unexpected. Great way to show love to the community. Overall, I wish them success since they just opened yesterday. Wednesday and Sunday first hours are for seniors & folks with disabilities!
google avatar

Yelp
Your friendly neighborhood Trader Joe's just made Milpitas a lil bit better. The employees here provide great service and are helpful each time I come in here to make my grocery errands. If you're a sucker for plants, they usually have a good array of potted plants ranging from succulents, monstera and fresh cut seasonal floral like peonies. They usually display their specialty/new products at the end stands and the area by the ETOH/ bathroom entrance. When I'm craving for soup, salad and toast- buy their tomato soup with long crunchy breadsticks. I elevate the taste by adding sweet corn kernel, melted mozzarella cheese and top it with fresh basils. You can make your grilled cheese sandwich and dip it into the tomato soup. Depending if they have burrata cheese in stock, I get their micro greens, heirloom tomatoes, avocados and salad. Mix the batch and drizzle Rachel Ray's balsamic reduction drizzle. You're welcome!
google avatar

Susan R.

Yelp
Oh tj how I love to shop... A few things that I love about tj is their floral section yes I said floral. This is my go to place to buy flowers if I go pay a visit to my mom & dad. in my opinion they have a great selection that I can always find something that I like. Price point you will not break the bank. As for the rest of the store they have a abundance of organic products for you to select from. Another plus for me is the parking I could always be able to find a place to park close to the entrance ! yay. Check out is a breeze since the have enough cashier to help you out. With that said I think Tj is great.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
New favorite Trader Joe's location. For years I was going to my local one in Fremont. I had seen this location a few times and was skeptical about it due to its location and appearance of lack of parking. I was wrong! There is plenty of designated parking in the garage with a clearly marked Trader Joe's sign for the entrance to the right. This location is big, well spaced, and very clean!
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
I happened to be over here for the first time after a trip to the Great Mall on Saturday. I remember seeing it open sometime last year but Sunnyvale or the Coleman location are the typical go to spots if I need to hit a TJ. This place always concerned me in the past due to parking, however this was not an issue as we found a dedicated parking structure located in the back of the building/apartments. The store seemed to have ok stock of items but appears smaller than the other stores I've been to. In a pinch though, or for convenience to the apartments above, this would be an amazing store.... Just not one I really see myself ever visiting again unless I'm in the area and really want to go to TJ.

Terri N.

Yelp
Cleanliness, friendly cashier, helpful workers, easy parking, I will go to Trader Joe's more often from now on.

Joyita G.

Yelp
They have very poor customer care training. A crew member shouted saying- " excuse me you are in my face"- rudely- when a lady tried to get caramel sauce from the shelf. He happened to be shelfing a lower shelf and found it irritating that a customer takes anything from around him. Very odd behavior in Milpitas Trader Joe's. I would not recommend shopping here till they change their crew or train them appropriately.
google avatar

Aurora R.

Yelp
As we all know, Trader Joe's has a really great customer service I don't get to go there often because I'm blind and an employee there by the name of Joshua remember me from my previous visit and helped me out with giving a vegan ground beef substitute that he recommended, and by the way, it was very delicious! Shout out to Joshua for being amazing!

Ana G.

Yelp
Closing crew was RUDE. Me and other customers were looking at flowers (10mins before closing) and they were already putting in the flowers from outside inside and they were placed right in front of the flowers. No excuse me or anything. Couldn't they wait until 9pm?
google avatar

Malia H.

Yelp
I love this Trader Joe's location! I've been to many, but the people that work here are always so kind and upbeat. It makes the shopping experience even more enjoyable. Warning, it gets insanely busy here on the weekends especially in the afternoon. I find it's best to shop here on a weekday night.
