I’ve been shopping at Trader Joe’s for years, at multiple locations, and I’ve always appreciated how warm, welcoming, and kind the staff are, especially with my toddler. Every other store we’ve been to has always included her in the experience, letting her hand items to the cashier, giving her a sticker or lollipop, and making her feel seen and happy. That’s part of what makes Trader Joe’s so special.
But this location? Absolutely terrible customer service. The cashier was rude and dismissive when my daughter tried to participate. He flat-out told me it would “mess him up” if she handed items while he scanned. Seriously? Multitasking is part of the job, if you can’t handle a toddler passing groceries while scanning, what do you do when there’s real commotion at the registers?
Then, when she asked for a lollipop or sticker Trader Joe’s has always done for kids, he refused the lollipop and told her she had to find the animal first. She’s a toddler. Every other location understands that, but this cashier decided to make it a power trip. It was harsh, unnecessary, and upsetting for her.
What made it worse is that there were two supervisors/managers nearby who clearly saw what was happening and did absolutely nothing. No kindness, no effort to turn the situation around, no customer care at all.
This was hands-down the worst Trader Joe’s experience I’ve ever had. Trader Joe’s is known for its friendly, community-based culture, but this store completely missed the mark. This is how they treat families and children, I am taking my business to another location that actually values its customers.
