Chicago Restaurants and Bars Closings for Fall 2024 | Eater Chicago

"A longtime after-work spot at 160 N. Franklin Street closed in September. The gastropub was known for burgers, flatbreads, and happy hour specials and was impacted by a lack of downtown workers." - Ashok Selvam

Service was good, food was great and really big on the portion size. Us men had the ribs, they were really filling with loads of meat on! not like back in UK. The girls had burgers and the kids enjoyed there food too.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Traditions! The hamburgers were absolutely fantastic—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Each bite was a delight, and it’s clear they use high-quality ingredients. While I was looking forward to trying the Father’s Day prime rib, it wasn’t quite ready when we arrived, which was a bit disappointing. However, this small hiccup didn’t detract from the overall experience. The staff was incredibly accommodating and quick to apologize for the mix-up. They made sure we were well taken care of and went out of their way to ensure we had a great meal. One of the highlights of Traditions is the open kitchen, which gives you a clear view of the chefs at work and the fresh ingredients being used. It adds a wonderful touch of transparency and trust to the dining experience. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and very professional. Despite the minor issue with the prime rib, we left very satisfied and impressed with the quality of both the food and the service. We will definitely be back, and I highly recommend Traditions for anyone looking for a great meal in a welcoming atmosphere!

Bobbi was great! Even though we arrived at a busy time on a Friday evening, she and the rest of the staff were welcoming and friendly! Food portions are for the hungry; Decent variety! Loved the music they were playing! Nice vibe on the patio with view of the golf course. Awfully loud inside.

Terrible experience cook name is Hector and Manager name Zak..I contacted corporate and explain the bad attitude of Hector, and when I asked to speak with the Manager Zak, he acted like he didn't speak good English and hard of hearing. Now, if these 2 gentleman are still there, you will know that corporate do not care about their customers. Also, Zak is also the manager at the other restaurant Eleven, he was able to speak English and hear just fine when we went there. Don't waste your time going to Traditions. If you do eat on the resort, go to Eleven, and request server Warren, he's totally amazing. He took the time to explain the menu to my daughter a very picky eater, it made her night, she tried things on the menu, she would have never tried, until he explain how it's cooked etc..I did let corporate know how GREAT Warren was, and he needs to be the one that train their managers and rest of their employees how to treat their customers.

We've been coming to Reunion on our Wyndham timeshare for decades. Traditions is relatively new to the area and so is the Nicklaus course which i consider to be my home course because we play and come there so much. This was the first time I've actually eaten at the restaurant with a guys weekend golf trip to Orlando, and boy did it hit the spot. compared to all the other restaurants in the Champions Gate/Reunion area, because this restaurant is actually on the Reunion property (which is exclusive to guests and residents), on a Friday night this place was empty. so our party of 8 guys was welcome to them and to the bar. More importantly, the food was EXCELLENT and affordable. not only that, it's literally a stone's throw from our timeshare condo-maybe a 3-5 min car ride through the neighborhood. Traditions is a great alternative even to the busier main Reunion Sushi/Steakhouse in the main lobby. this spot is our new go to place after driving 2-3 hours from Jacksonville and checking in on a Friday evening.

Sam the bartender was great. Her drinks were delicious and her food recommendations were perfect. Wings were really good. We also ordered the brunch burger and the cavatappi pasta dish. We will definitely visit again when we are back in the area.

Google
I have been here handful of times. I love the views when sitting outside overlooking the golf course. The food this day was so amazing. I don’t know who the chef is right now but he’s doing a great job. That was the best chicken wings I’ve had and I have had a lot of chicken wings and also my friend orderedflatbread on top of the chicken salad and when that flatbread came it was so amazing so it was great. The food was amazing the atmosphere the environment was great.

A gentle grace arrives by breakfast time. Mo, with voice like rain on English stone, Turns coffee warm, and makes the day my own. A satin breeze in brunette glow she glides, A kindness tucked in all the way she strides. Her smile, a compass pointing always true, A quiet charm, where skies feel newly blue. Though plates may clink and menus come and go, It’s morning light I sip when served by Mo. For every dawn she makes feel fresh and new!

Yelp

Yelp
Very mediocre, especially for the price. The $6 side salad was so tiny that we couldn't help but bust out laughing when it arrived - It was like a curb your enthusiasm episode. I got the braised beef pasta and it was so salty I could hardly eat it. Also was more of a gravy sauce than what the menu described. Out of a party of 8, everyone was underwhelmed by what we received. Fish and chips was a generous serving but a huge slab of fish - kinda ruined the fish to breading ratio. Chicken on Cesar salad was bland. Tomato soup was like thick marinera sauce. Burger probably got the best feedback. Service was ok, not exceptional but not bad. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation and the host would not seat us a minute before, even though it was not busy. This didn't impress me, especially because we had a few elderly in our party. I would not return.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience from the time we entered and were greeted by 2 employees. We asked one to take a picture of us and he was so happy to take one. Our main server was Bobbi and she was excellent & made sure every detail of our order was to our specifications. I had the chicken Alfredo - delicious and my husband and a cheeseburger and onion rings. He said it was very good. We took the salted caramel cheesecake with fruit back to our condo for dessert. We also were serviced by Moi, Mike, and Zak, all wonderful and a tribute to this fine restaurant. Thank you! We will be back.

Yelp
This restaurant warrants a mixed review. We had a 5:00 reservation, being Valentines Day we made sure we arrived promptly to be told by the gentleman checking us in that we were 8 minutes early and had to wait. Fine, what wasn't cool was a couple walked in no reservation and were seated before us! Preferential treatment because they were regulars? Adding insult to injury we had to wait 15 past our reservation time and there were lots of empty tables when we were seated. So service in my opinion wasn't the best. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the Chimichurri Strip Steak. It was cooked to perfection! Our servers Donavan and Alexa were pleasant and attentive. This is not our first time here, will probably return and hope that we have a better experience next time.

Yelp
Easily some of the best fried tofu I've ever had. I usually am a pretty slow eater but my family was surprised when I devoured my meal before any of them even finished. It was 11/10 times 2. I mean wow!! I am vegan so I especially appreciated it. The service was also wonderful. My family loved their food too. Also eating on a beautiful golf course is everything!!

Yelp
Well, tonight was one of those memories you will never forget. We had a party of six very close friends and family, who reserved a table on the patio for 5:30 PM. After we had placed our orders, we heard what sounded like an accelerating engine. When we looked around to see what it was, it was a septic tank truck, and it was literally pumping out the septic tank directly below us on the patio of the restaurant. If you've ever stood next to a septic tank being pumped out, then you know what it smells like. Our food arrived as the smell increased. It was a sh** show by definition. Would you want to put your dinner table in the middle of a dump? Might you expect in such a situation that a manager with some level of competence would offer to reseat you and apologize in the process? Not at Jack's restaurant! We certainly understand that problems can arise. It was not the fault of our very nice waitress, nor the fault of the food servers doing their best. They were embarrassed. But the manager on duty was reprehensible, ignorant, and incompetent. When one of the ladies in our party tried to talk to him about the unbelievable experience, he blew her off and walked away. He said it was a "health hazard," and that's why they were pumping out the septic tank. It was a "health hazard," such that you should not seat people directly above a septic tank being pumped out. And you should demonstrate a much better attitude than this guy in the process. I've traveled the world as a trial lawyer for four decades, and I've never experienced anything like this. It is one for the record books. Any competent manager worth his salt would take care of the customers and sincerely apologize rather than blow someone off and walk away. This guy has no idea. If he thinks Jack Nicklaus won't get a letter directly from me, he better think again because Jack, like me, values his reputation. And someone at that restaurant better wake up. Absolutely intolerable. As he ran away, he, of course, did not introduce himself nor give his name. But it was Saturday, February 8, 2025, so anyone from the company reading this review should be able to figure out who it was and should take the appropriate action. Because I'm just writing my first review. And I'm a pretty good writer and quite competent at communicating exactly what transpired as many times as it takes Thanks for ruining what otherwise was a very special gathering.

Yelp
Our server was the best part of our visit here right before Thanksgiving. I think his name is Mark if I'm not wrong. The avacado toast usually comes with sunny side up but I asked him to switch it to eggs Benedict and he gladly obliged. He was checking in on us regularly which was great! Portion was pretty huge which is very reasonable for $14. The ambiance is very nice - on a golf course. So it was very classy. They have a sports store as well if you want to buy some equipment or golf clothes. The ladies restroom was very clean and classy too!! Knocked off a star because they cancelled my open table reservation even though I told the wait staff that we had a reservation. Other than that, a Great place for brunch or lunch!

Jeff W.

Yelp
The food here really does suck. We went to Eleven a few days back, but it's not open on Sundays. The server was great but the food is just horrible. We had the chips and salsa, these were hot, the salsa was decent and that was about where it ended. My wife ordered the Caesar salad, which for 14 dollars, was really bad. Some romaine lettuce with some store bought dressing globbed right in the middle. The steak flat bread had me questioning the safety of the meat on it. It was just cubes of meat cooked in a saute pan. Then some onions and whatever else on top. Then the cook (I won't even use the term chef) drowned the entire thing in olive oil. The steak was not seasoned AT ALL, which had me questioning its flavor. Was it out too long type of thing...a little salt and pepper folks and you would have a better product. There were a lot of visiting folks that didn't want to endure I-4 here, probably all staying on the resort properties, huge group outside with unruly kids yelling and screaming, but we can't say anything to anyone anymore in regards to stuff like that. Anywho, I would never come here again, it's that bad.....

Craig M.

Yelp
Typical golf menu that is pretty much something that works for lunch or dinner. This isn't the place to "go out " for dinner but is a place for burgers, flatbreads, fish and chips and the like.

Yelp
Great food staff is professional and nice. Spacious seating. Will always stop here for a meal.

Yelp
I will say the experience was just "OK" we were sat on on the patio right after sunset and the view of the golf course and surrounding homes is gorgeous. The staff was attentive, friendly and always made sure our drinks were full. As far as the food, we enjoyed the crab dip as an appetizer 5/5 - main course was nothing to run back for. Ordered a steak cooked medium and it was border line well done and chicken parmigiana had a very odd flavor.
google avatar

Fernanda D.

Yelp
The food was okay. Service was not that good. The server took forever to serve instead she was chatting to clients from another table.
google avatar

Angela E.

Yelp
Left without being served. Wasn't busy. Lots of staff walking by. Not even waters or a menu offered. Couldn't tell you about the food. Super disorganized and clunky management. Couldn't even seem to get a drink at the bar. ‍ Left and went somewhere else.

Yelp
This place felt like home!!!! Went to Orlando for my sister's weekend birthday getaway. Vibe: Super quiet! But super welcoming. Customer Service: We were welcomed by a young lady who greeted us to our table and our server was Marios. This guy is so nice. So welcoming. So helpful. He talked to us like we were his friends. Drinks: My dad went something new, blue moon. He thought it was really different but good. We all had lemonade. And it was okayy.. Food: My sister had the chicken alfredo, me and the bday girl had burgers, traditional with fries and black & blue with sweet potato fries. My mother had a shrimp salad and finally my dad had a chicken salad. We were all so so satisfied of our order. It was really good. The only thing I would say was bad would be the cooking of my burger it was pretty wet and raw. My sister complained of the same thing and even after we sent it back to the kitchen, it was still pretty wet. Other than that it was really good. Dessert: The boss gave us HUGE piece offree chocolate cake after Marios asked him if we could get free dessert for the birthday. And it was so so sweet how they all sing with us the happy birthday song. Over and over again lol. My favorite part!!! Price: Pretty pricy. More than I thought it would cost us. Coming back? If im in the neighorhood again.. hell yesss!!!

Yelp
During our stay went here a few times. I will say the service and food were better the earlier you arrive. The patio is absolutely amazing on a gorgeous night. Love it. Service was just a little underwhelming and they need some more food options on the menu or try a special or two that changes.

Yelp
This place is beautiful with an incredible sunset and golf view. The service is hit or miss but the servers are really nice. We ordered a couple of drinks and calamari. We had great service initially but then were ignored for about 45 minutes. We planned to get another round of drinks but ended up closing out once we decided to go inside and get a tab. The calamari was definitely pre-packaged as each piece was exactly the same and heavily breaded. I'd recommend for the view and a simple glass of wine but not the calamari. We ended up with stomach issues after the calamari - we eat pretty clean so it was probably loaded with preservatives.

Yelp
1st time trying it here with my son, didn't want to go into town or any other areas due to traffics. My son ordered garlic Parmesan wings, he says they were ok, wing stop wings were better. Ordered a side salad, it came in a soup cup- how am I suppose to eat that? Luckily there were 2 small plates for the wings & used it for the salad. I had the cavatappi with short ribs the sauce was ok, had sauce in a jar that's way better, pasta is definitely from a box. My son has the Thai chili salmon with potatoes and broccoli, my son saw a piece of hair. Short white hair, I was able to grab the attention of I believe who's the manager or supervisor and we informed him of what my son found in his food, he brought it to the kitchen and one of the cooks came to our table and told us it's actually a seasoning, thyme. I didn't know thyme was white. Needless to say our dinner was disappointing. For fine dining, silverware was wrapped in a paper napkin. At longhorns they're wrapped in real cloth napkins. Our server, Jackie was very apologetic. Not her fault the food was not as good as expected.

Yelp
First time dining in here. Lobster roll was warm but too bready and flavorless. Got the "reunion" drink 20 minutes after I ordered it initially and that tasted nothing like the description liquor aside. Mac and cheese seemed right out the microwave and was also flavorless. Shrimp po boy had 4 pieces of shrimp surrounded by a massive roll which ended up being 90% of the sandwich that was equally as flavorless as all my previous items. Will not be returning.

Yelp
Traditions did an all inclusive superbowl event for $80 + tax + grat. It wasn't cheap, but they did perform. I grabbed the menu earlier in the day and thought it was adequate enough to try, although a bit pricey for the food offerings. The drinks were 4.5*. Nice selection of beer and liquor. We would've liked some nicer red wines. Service was a perfect 5*. Karin, Winter and Mary Ellen were so perfectly attentive and kind. Perfection! The bartender, I forget his name, was equally as perfect. I hope this team is retained. We'll come in more often. Food was a 2.5 to a 3. It was okay. The fish tacos were gross because the hard shell taco shells were stale. I'll eat anything and I still was like...whoa, these aren't very good. My wife quit after her first bite. That should've happen. Food selection was...eeeh...no one was blown away, bit no one was very disappointed either. Spice itbupa bit next year. Do some more creative things. Maybe a shrimp cocktail? You can charge more too. It's Reunion guys...make it a 5 star experience and don't be afraid to charge 5 star pricing. Tito's vodka had a stand setup. That was really cool. Definitely get vendors to do stuff like that. The whole crowd loved that. Traditions has gorgeous views and is in the beautiful Reunion Resort. It can, and should be an exclusive diamond. It's well on its way.

Yelp
Great food and view over the 18th hole and driving range at one of the reunion golf courses.

Yelp
I usually don't do many reviews. Both my buddy and myself commented as we left the bar area, "what amazing service"! Jacky was our server/bartender and she was truly exemplary in a world of average service. Her smile and demeanor are what guests need and require to remind them what a great resort this is. Thank you.
google avatar

Larry C.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Food is wonderful, and staff is friendly and on point. Could not be happier.

Janet E.

Yelp
Thank you Samantha for your friendly and excellent service. The October special cocktail and entree were a good recommendation. Appreciate all the staff there who made us feel welcome in a relaxing atmosphere!

Yelp
We had a great dinner here. The server seemed to be handling the entire restaurant, inside and out by herself yet she was super happy and efficient. We had the giant pretzel appetizer with mustard and cheese dip. It was delicious as were the huge wings we ordered. Three in our group got fish and chips. The fish is a whole fillet and was perfectly battered and fried. One had a burger, which was cooked as requested. Another had a chicken BLT, which was juicy and tasty. Another had the chicken pasta dish and said it was creamy and hit the spot. I had the steak tips salad and added shrimp. Everything was really tasty and fresh. We also got a discount with our Wyndham stay. We would come back if we were locals.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my partner while staying on property. It was a beautiful December day and we were able to sit outside. My tacos and his chicken salad were both delicious and came in large portions. Looking forward to coming back for breakfast later this week!

Yelp
Great new find in town at the Tradition Restaurant at Reunion! Service was amazing with Johnny and José, view was gorgeous of the golf course, venue was clubhouse elegant with full bar! Lots of options, not just pub food but many salads, sandwiches, entrees for both lunch and dinner menus! We started with pecan smoked wings with an array of sauces, great soft pretzels with beer cheese, potato soup going onto a crispy fried chicken sandwich with house made chips, an amazing tuna poke bowl (would have loved a pea amount of wasabi for a little pop), braised short ribs with thyme Demi glacé with a perfect mushroom risotto, A wonderful crusted snapper with garlic sour cream mash potatoes, sautéd spinach and lobster sauce! On Fridays and saturdays they have live music and a Sunday's they have brunch with future plans of an eggs Benedict station, and more! Only a few minutes from Champions gate and a all round wonderful dining experience!

Dean F.

Yelp
For a long time, Traditions was one of our "go to" restaurants in Reunion. Tucked in the Nicklaus clubhouse, the food and service were always very good and it was a spot where you could get a table even when it was a busy tourist time. Unfortunately, that Traditions appears to be gone. The food is not awful but it is also not to the standards that it used to be. It's ok - pretty much what you expect in the clubhouse of a golf course. The new ownership has changed the menu a couple of times - we went from great to terrible to just OK and just OK appears to be the permanent norm. The real issue is service. While they still appear to be well staffed, the service has bottomed out. Seemingly overnight, all of the old staff who provided excellent service disappeared and the replacements have never managed to reach even the basic competence level. Sitting with empty drinks, watching your food die under the heat lamp of the open kitchen and spending 20 minutes trying to pay your bill are all the new norm at Traditions. Management has managed the place into a hole and, sadly, as a long term regular customer, it seems to be time to give up on Traditions.
google avatar

Karl U.

Yelp
We have always enjoyed having dinner or lunch at Traditions. This is the first time we were very disappointed. The new menu was very limited and we brought our friends but we were not happy with the new menu. Also when taking our drink order, they kept stating they were out of our brands of scotch or only had one shot left. Very disappointed

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
This place needs more stars! Hosts and servers were very polite ;) Food beat my expectations . When I come here again I'll pay another visit!

Jenny K.

Yelp
All amenities were fabulous, family inclusive, 3 room condo was perfect. This was a fantastic place to have a family vacation
google avatar

Chloe M.

Yelp
This restaurant absolutely deserves to be rated #1 in Orlando. The service and food is phenomenal. We felt like celebrities with the service of Marcela, John, and chef Andy who made our night so incredibly special. The cheese fondue is worth coming in for ALONE. The drinks were super tasty and the chocolate cake for dessert is a must. We had a wonderful view of the kitchen and the 18th green at sunset. Please do yourself a favor and stop by if you're in Kissimmee or staying at the Reunion resort!
google avatar

Timothy C.

Yelp
If you want a staff that's rude and acts like this is a top tier country club by asking if you belong here every time you step on property or the golf course this is the place for you.

Val R.

Yelp
Great place to eat dinner...just need to add more dinner entree choices. Beautiful outdoor dining with a golf course view. Marios is an exceptional waiter and a real asset to the restaurant. Marios goes the extra mile to make the customers happy.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Great place for lunch! Sit outside on the patio and ask for Mo!! He is fantastic, friendly and makes the experience fun! Turkey Club and burger were yummy!!

Laura F.

Yelp
A terrible experience at Traditions last night. We had a carry out order which was greatly underestimated for timing. They said 35 minutes and it took over an hour to receive. We ordered 6 meals and 1 appetizer and 4 of those were wrong. A Bavarian pretzel without cheese or mustard dip. A salad without dressing. Chicken sandwich, hard to screw up, but wrong. Hot dog, fully loaded when we ordered it plain. Ugh, beyond frustrating.

Michael W.

Yelp
I went with family who lives on property. I had a great time and everything was fresh and served with pride.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
We went Traditions twice and enjoyed it immensely. The apps and seafood are excellent. Specifically, the wings and the pulled pork sliders were tasty. The service was good and the wine list was pleasant. Great place to eat at Reunion. We were very pleased.
google avatar

Yvette A.

Yelp
Food is great, atmosphere is great, I asked for a Togo menu so I can call ahead for pickup orders. No one EVER picks up. Please improve on this! Giving a one star to get managements attention!
google avatar

Armye W.

Yelp
This was one of my worst experiences. Our server (female) receipt said Derek was not attentive to our needs. She was very busy stocking the fridge along the bar. I notice due to being seat at high table. I had to wait twice for my seltzer water and was not happy!

Ricky B.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. I ordered the burger while we where on vacación back in October and it was delicious. Also have had the breakfast there as well and I definitely recommend this place. Staff was very friendly and prompt and the prices are great. You get a lot of food for what you pay. We will definitely be back.

Andrew W.

Yelp
The traditions course, and resort overall, proved not only to be incompetent, but almost intentionally poorly run. On our 3 day golf trips, our clubs were lost by the employees on multiple occasions. These employees then told us that "we" had certainly lost a lot of stuff. Blame shifting. Embarrassing. And don't even get me started on the food service. We saw the beverage cart 2 times in 104 holes and were greeted with anger each time. Despite us giving the resort an itinerary and planning in tandem with them for 6 months leading up to the event, anything that possibly could have gone wrong did go wrong. Do not waste your time or money or patience at this EXTREMELY below par establishment. Golf is frustrating enough as is. Terrible establishment. Sad.

June W.

Yelp
Fish dishes are delightful. But the star is the wing atmosphere. One of the best ever.

Wade V.

Yelp
This place is the greatest restaurant. They make delicious fried chicken. The best fried chicken I have ever tasted. This place puts Popeyes to shame.
