The Best Denver, Colorado Bars | Eater Denver

"Malört, Montucky, and Malibu, oh my. This South Broadway haunt is relatively new, but it plays the part of a creaky, cranky old dive with relish, pouring “trash drinks” like the Spaghetts — a bottle of Miller High Life with a shot of Campari or Aperol and a squeeze of lemon — for locals who linger for hours, catching the game, checking out the occasional food truck in front, making buddies of strangers, and just generally showing how life is done." - Ruth Tobias

Love the atmosphere here, it’s cozy and always feel safe as a woman, great community and great affordable drinks. They also have so many games! The owner Erin is so nice and hospitable!! 11/10 would recommend

Google
Love this place! Staff is amazing. Love that they have the water in the back, not a far trip - great business model - keeps me from bugging the staff for a million H2O refills… lets them focus on the important thing… keeping the beer flowing.

Google
The place has a loud yet chill atmosphere and plays metal music, but the "game" selection was a pile of dilapidated boxes tossed in a corner. The bartender could not be bothered to tell me what kind of beers were on tap and brusquely pointed to the QR menu. The sandwiches were delicious but not really worth the 2 hour wait. I'll stick with the Table Top Tap.

Love this place. My new favorite bar in Denver. Inexpensive beer, yet a great local beer selection for craft beer fanatics. I LOVE the informal vibe here.

Google
really love this bar! It’s my boyfriend and I’s new fave place. We like to go on Saturdays for a bit of day drinking! The drinks are STRONG and buy one get one free. Where else in Denver does such a good deal? Not to mention all the fun games to play while hanging out. If you’re around broadway and wanna stay away from the tourists in downtown this should be your new spot!

Google
People think they need to be taken care of consistently but this bar allows you to enjoy the atmosphere and stay hydrated!!! Water cooler in the back is CLUTCH! Thank you Bridget!! You are everything !!!

Google
Best bar I’ve ever been too! If the food trucks aren’t bomb enough, the hotdog roller is awesome!!! Best service in town! Bartenders are so attentive and fun to be around! Can’t wait to make this my new home!

Google
This bar immediately became my favorite spot. The bartenders are fantastic, wonderful people. The vibe is low-key but they always have something fun going on. Can’t beat their happy hour! Nothing but good things to say about this spot.

Yelp
The bartenders are fantastic! I've lost count of how many exceptional experiences I've had with Ian and David in particular. (Ian is also always the best dj). The drinks are delicious, people are awesome, and prices are unbeatable! Well-behaved dogs are allowed on-leash too which is also a big plus!

Yelp
This bar is amazing, beer and shot combo with excellent price point that should echo through generations. Also, the staff is fucking great. In this dark age, we all need a shining trash bb to light the way. Fly, you dirty bird, fly!

Yelp
Awesome energy and wall decor! I was drawn to the aesthetic of this place and thoroughly enjoyed the folks frequenting this cute lil bar. I'd definitely recommend this as a laid-back place to hang out!

Yelp
Of the multitude of bars along Broadway, TrashHawk Tavern is in the top ten for me. The commitment to the "trash hawk" aka raccoon theme is evident in every detail down to the "trashy" menu and chotskies that are definitely pulled from the trash - on purpose. TrashHawk offers good drinks at reasonable prices and is a good locale to start (or finish) your evening off with. Service can be a little bit slow from time to time, but that is because there are a ton of people trying to order drinks from the one bartender on shift. The plus side of this, is that you get to look at all the decor and fun raccoons hidden about while waiting for your drinks. There is always a food truck on site and the food trucks rotates throughout the week. Having been on Westword's 100 Bars You Can't Live Without for a third year in a row since I've started reading, it most definitely is a place to visit! The bathroom decor is a must see for sure - hilarious!

Yelp
Wanted to grab some drinks with friends last week and had heard about this spot and the cheap drinks, so we decided to check it out. They have a fun 'trashy' menu of a lot of random things and definitely cheap prices if you're looking to save some $. I went with the "Trash Mom" which is their .....kind of take on a long island? It was alright, though I'm not sure all the flavors blended great. But again, $7 is nothing to sneer at. The ambience is super divey here and a bit too loud in the front room - or at least the people behind us were being way too loud. We realized later there's a back room which was much quieter, so we moved back there. Part of the room is taken up by.....something? I couldn't quite figure out what was behind the railing area. Might be better used as additional seating, but not sure. Overall an okay experience, cheap drinks, a little too loud but an easy spot.

Yelp
This place is unique. It's like Toys R Us but for adults. Just think "where an adult can be a kid." The lawless nature of this gentlemanly establishment sets it apart from the same ole boring bar. Be a clown, be silent, be a goof ball and run around pants less it's all up to you. Just don't be rude to people and you'll be just fine. Trash Hawk I salute you.

Yelp
Huge thanks to Bridget for the wonder service in this cute local spot on South Broadway! I didn't try any food, but our bartender was very thoughtful in recommending a few options to compliment the oakiness of Casamigos. I decided on a margarita, which I usually try to avoid the standard dive-bar sweet and sour poorly constructed tequila nightmare. My marg was pretty fantastic, and I ordered a second over my go-to sour beer because Bridget's marg was better. Let's talk about Fox, Bridget's amazing dog, he was the coolest and best behaved dog I've met aside from my own. He's partly the reason we decided to stop in! Ambiance is awesome; the music could be louder, but at least we could hear each other's conversation! The Xmas lights are fun and brighten the space in a comfortable casual way.

Yelp
Had a great time with my gal pals for my birthday celebration at TrashHawk. I love the curated decor that makes you feel like you're in someone's home. Their happy hour is an incredible deal: BOGO Free M-F 2-6pm and S/S 12-6pm. I love their Trash Drinks. Strong cocktails (most are doubles!) served in pint glasses with names like Old Balls, Trash Mom, The Broseph, and my fav, Baby Girl (double tall vodka soda). They let you bring in your own snacks which was a plus for us since we had birthday cupcakes. You need to go to the bar to order your own drinks. It was a busy afternoon with our large group and several others watching college football so service was a little slow. This will not deter me from going again and again as Erin was great to work with to get a space reserved.

Yelp
We go here after our softball games and it's a good place to hangout. The beers are cheap and cold but their house cocktails/mixed drinks are a miss on my end. My gf and I have had several of their in house mixes and all were trash unfortunately. The staff are great and atmosphere is good! It's your neighborhood dive bar, they have great music playing, trivia night and other things to do.

Yelp
Really cool place to drink with games in the back and patio. Bartenders/ owner are amazing and love going there. Also, they typically have a food truck on the weekend which always has good choices.

Yelp
TrashHawk is great. Can't beat inexpensive straight forward drinks. This is a beer and shot kinda bar. Don't ask for or expect anything fancy. I mean Trash is in the name. Great spot to chill by yourself and chat with whoever is sitting at the bar, but also a great spot for a group of people. Bartenders are all friendly besides Ian. He sucks. Worst bartender in Denver! (I also say that because if he reads this I am sure he will laugh. We love Ian... most of the time). The bar is dog friendly, but don't forget a leash. Gotta have ur fur babies leashed in the bar. No kitchen, but easily walkable to a sub shop, fried chicken place and more. Bringing in your own food is highly endorsed. Also they have food trucks 3+ nights a week. Follow on Insta for daily updates on current and up coming events. If the owner is there ask her how she came up with the name for the bar.

Yelp
When entering TrashHawk your eye is immediately drawn to all of the paraphernalia on the walls and ceiling. Apparently the owner had collected a lot of the stuff from her grandmother's basement and vintage stores. This gives the place a very cozy feel. We needed an extra chair for our table, and the bartender, Maddy, suggested we grab a chair from the back. I was shocked when I went up the stairs and around the corner to discover a big additional space in the back! My favorite decor was the wallpaper in the bathrooms. Both of the bathroom's walls are plastered with old Life Magazine ads, one bathroom had liquor ads and the other has cigarette ads. Definitely warrants lingering a bit long on the toilet seat to see them all :). It was a Sunday afternoon and happy hour, and the drinks were cheap and unique - just how I like them! I had the Lil" Smidge (Malibu, Well Rum, and Pineapple with Sprite & soda water) which hit the spot, and Maddy kept them coming. They have popcorn, chips and lunchables available, but you are allowed to bring in your own food. As we were leaving a food truck pulled up out front, and I was told they have rotating food trucks regularly.

Yelp
TrashHawk tavern is perfect for what it is: a chill neighborhood dive. The bartenders are very friendly (happily turned the sound on for the NFL playoffs after I requested it), they always have some kind of drink specials, the vibe is laid back and relaxed, and there are hilarious signs/quotes on the walls. There is plenty of space (it goes way back beyond the front area), lots of TVs, good music, etc. They also allow you to bring in outside food, which is awesome because there are so many excellent to-go spots in that neighborhood. They also tend to have rotating food trucks parked outside in the evenings. You will not have a good time if you tend to be uptight, easily offended, or prefer exorbitantly priced cocktails over cheap beer and cocktails (but if that's you're thing then I'm sure you can find it just about anywhere else in Denver). Cheers!

Yelp
I wish I could say trashHawk had manners but they do not. Their food truck worker is rude and nasty. The business tries to bully you into doing things. This is my experience with this business food truck when parking in front of the Gypsy (next to their business. Their employees called me and my underage children vulgar names and threatened us for not moving my car from a public parking spot that they tried reserving without any permits. It's public parking and there was no indication it was "reserved". If they would have asked nicely maybe they would not have this bad review. Manners go along way. Please and thank you. Edit: thank you for the reply but the cones were NOT in the street, I am NOT affiliated with the gypsy. I am just a normal person who tried to go shopping on Broadway. The large women with long dark hair that was yelling racial slurs at me about the food truck was adamant about it being owned by your bar, the trashHawk, so I'm sticking with my review to your bar. If your neighbor is so upset about you blocking off public parking maybe you should get a permit and make it legal to reserve those public parking spots. Maybe you can teach your staff and your third party employees about acting with integrity so you don't get more bad reviews.

Yelp
I truly cannot express the feelings I get when stepping into this establishment. The drink selection is exquisitely curated with a subtle nod to midwestern proclivities. As a homegrown Denver product, I have the pleasure of expanding my tastes to the floral, leather, and orange rind which tastes of Malort while simultaneously witnessing Joker go dumb on unsuspecting peasants. This bar knows how to slang them MF drizanks and got damn we love it

Yelp
Stopped in after a show at Levitt Pavilion. Great spot to grab a drink and enjoy conversation with the fellow, friendly patrons at the bar.

Yelp
Super dope place and friendly tends....definitely coming back! Food trucks in the back BTW!

Yelp
Dope dive bar on south Broadway, in or at least near to the vintage district. You're not going to stop in by accident (it's not really in a walking block) but it's worth a slight detour. Cheap drinks and ample/funny specials (Chicago Handshake - shot of Malort and an Old Style). Friendly bartenders. Don't come for the food unless they've got a good food cart, but then again they often do. This place will be popping in the summer on the back patio.
google avatar

Yelp
Great no frills bar with great staff. They have games and snacks available along with the occasional food truck. Highly recommend popping in for a drink (or a few).

Yelp
I used to live a couple blocks down from the trash hawk but moved away before it opened.... Regret not signing another lease just to have this be my walking distance local bar - the staff/people are fantastic, the drinks are great and very healthy poured. Also, one of the few places on south Broadway/platt park neighborhood that has TVs and sports. 10/10 big fan

Molly G.

Yelp
Best bar in Denver! I'm a native and this place makes me so damn happy. Run, don't walk!

Devin T.

Yelp
I tried going to a late night coffee shop but found out it was closed and stumbled into this wonderful tavern instead. Warm, authentic ambiance with bartenders who are interesting to talk to. Solid drink menu.

Yelp
This place has an awesome vibe!! Great service from Mike and Lexi every time! Always a welcoming environment with great amenities including a giant outside patio, FREE pool tables and TV's everywhere. It's really a great place to hang out with friends.

Leslie V.

Yelp
South Broadway desperately needed a place like this. Beer pong, cheap beer, Jell-O shots, fast service. Indoor and outdoor seating options and hilarious decor. I've been twice already and can't wait to go back!

Erin K.
