Yelp
This place is a sleeper pick for some of the best carne asada tacos in the city. Typically I judge a place by their al pastor, and Traspasada's is pretty good (it's not my favorite for their tacos, but it really shines in sopes, gorditas, etc.; it gives a really nice contrast to their beans and cheese), but their carne asada is fantastic and justifies a trip all on its own.
Traspasada is apparently known for their black sauce (which is what initially brought me in, because I'm a salsa fanatic), and I'd say for good reason. Here's the thing: There are plenty of salsas that justify their existences by bringing flavor along with the heat, but it's extremely refreshing (and awesome for my acid reflux) when you can also find a go-to sauce that gives you loads of flavor WITHOUT setting your mouth on fire. Their salsa negra does this. It's smoky, almost sweet (I believe the peppers are fire-roasted), and while there's a slight twinge of spice, the flavor is the point here. They've got your standard green and red salsas as well (both have a fair amount of heat), but if you want something on the mild side, you can't go wrong with the black, and I'd argue that it's also easily their tastiest salsa (add in some red if you want more kick).
The staff is friendly, the food comes out quickly, and everything I've had there, I've thoroughly enjoyed. Two thumbs and a piña Jarrito up!
