Downtown’s Neapolitan spirit: housemade pastas, wood‑oven pies, and an Italian‑leaning cellar. Praised by CT Bites and beloved by locals, the owner’s Sorrento roots show in unfussy, soulful cooking and warm hospitality near the Bijou Theatre.

Three of us came here for lunch and had an excellent experience. It was our first time eating here and everything went really well. The atmosphere is nice…it was quiet so it was relaxing and easy to talk with each other. When you walk in there’s a bar area. As you walk further in there is the dining room area. Everything was clean. Our waitress Mel was awesome. She was friendly and attentive. They offer a wide variety of food options as well as a few specials. Besides the full bar they have a pretty extensive wine list. We each had different meals and all three were very good. The parking, entrance and seating are all wheelchair friendly. The restaurant is conveniently located as it’s not far from I-95 the train station and the Port Jefferson to Bridgeport ferry. Definitely recommend!

I’ve been wanting to try A’Vuchella for sometime now. I was unaware that it has been open for many years. We finally got the chance to go the other night and it was nothing short of amazing. The vibe reminded me of a restaurant in Sorrento. The staff was super friendly and the food was absolutely amazing. There are really good Italian restaurants than there is this place. Better than really good. Very authentic and very good food. We will come back many times. The drinks were amazing. The pasta was fresh. They even have a really good gluten-free option. Carbonara was very authentic. Tiramisu was amazing. Can’t wait to come back…tomorrow, lol. Check out more info on The Amore Life.

Loved our waiter all the food was delicious! Recommend reserving a table before hand, it was packed! All the staff was wonderful esp our waiter Joe. Pizza was delicious, ziti and meatballs were also delicious, I didn’t like the crab gnocchi little too fishy for my taste but the panacotta and cappuccino made up for it ! 10/10 recommend !

#TGIF #DoubleDate night to kick off Memorial Day Weekend in Downtown Bridgeport with friends. In reverse order, we enjoyed Pasquale’s infamous #Limoncello made with 🍋 🍋 from his brother’s tree in Italy. 🇮🇹 Housemade Chocolate Mousse for us and me while our friends shared panna cotta with 🍓 glaze for dessert. They were out of Stinco so I had Pollo alla Scarpariello while the rest of the crew had the ravioli specials. For an appetizer, we shared the prosciutto crudo pizza pie. All Delish!! Then we took a whirl on the #Vespa on our way out! #GoodTimes

I was there for lunch about a month ago. I liked the interior design of the restaurant, a nice cozy atmosphere. The service was fast and friendly. A great place for a family dinner, meeting with friends for lunch or just a cup of coffee, as well as for a romantic dinner. I liked everything. I was a little disappointed with the Pasta Carbonara, the taste was great, but a little too salty.

Google
We ve been dining here since they opened . If you re looking for an authentic experience then we highly recommend this charming place. The food has that authentic homemade quality, the staff treat you truly as guests making you feel welcome. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly , repeat customers are greeted from across the room by name . We’ve celebrated birthdays ( I can’t say enough about an amazing private family party we attended) , anniversaries, reunions with friends and rainy day afternoons getaways , and quick squeeze a dinner in before a local show . The owner Pasquale personally oversees and and tends to every aspect of the experience along with a staff that seem like family. We love it there.

Google
This is a great find within walking distance to the Bridgeport Cabaret theatre! The vibe is upscale contemporary, clean and sophisticated. Prices are reasonable and expertly prepared. I honestly felt like I was dining in a modern European trattoria. The restaurant was very busy but we still had excellent service. Definitely going back!

Google
What a lovely spot - we stumbled upon this gem while making our way through Connecticut and we were immediately greeted by friendly staff. My husband is Italian and doesn’t often like going out for an Italian because it usually doesn’t compare but this place was different. Everything was authentic and delicious. The Frutti di Mare pizza was to die for😍we had our two children with us and they loved the meatballs. If we find ourselves in this area again we will definitely come back.

Yelp
Food, ambience and service all excellent. Best carbonara, eggplant and gnocchi in the area. Pasquale always delivers an outstanding night out. Compare the prices and quality to some of the trendy Italian clip joints in Fairfield, looking at you Il Pellicano, and you won't be disappointed at Avuchella.

Yelp
This is on the owner and his wife ignoring the kitchen ringing the bell for food being ready as my food got cold. As a restaurant manager I found this absolutely idiotic bordering cognitive impairment (your business right?) The gentleman who took care of me at the bar, Joe was really great and accommodating. A pure class act. He helped me with finding a great wine pairing and offered cocktails in case I prefer those, noted cool items on the menu...etc Service 5 Stars - Joe was absolutely excellent. This dude cares about your experience. Ask for him. Now the rest Food - Tripe : 5 Stars Food - Carbonara: 1 Stars. Food - Olive Oil: 6 stars The tripe was amazing, good balance of flavor and spice. It went wonderfully with the bread basket and the delicious oil. Tender and not chewy, just right. The Carbonara was a joke at best and that comes back to the head chef and owner not teaching the proper quality assurance. It was watery and it was made with bacon, not Pancetta or Guanciale. Which would be fine by me if it was listed as such. But please don't bullshit me about the ingredients. Especially not while you're busy playing ceiling candy dress up and ignoring your employees. That really got me wrong. I don't even own the place but when I see that my staff is busy I help. As opposed to playing fairydoll time with purple fluff. Like how can you just sit there and not perform Sous duties without a sous? Are you even a real chef?

Yelp
Went here for dinner. 6 of us all had different meals. Pizza, gnocchi, bucatini and the risotto. Everything thing was amazing. Nothing came home with us. Drinks and desserts were also spot on. Don't pass this place by.

Yelp
This place is a gem in downtown Bridgeport. Pasquale is so fun and makes amazing food. All homemade! He greets you with a smile and happy energy! It's always a fantastic experience! Love this place!

Yelp
Service and ambiance were great. Food? Frustrating to pay for something like that. We ordered calamari--batter had no flavor and neither did the sauce. We had to add salt and pepper to have any type of seasoning. For the entree, we ordered Pappardelle al Ragu. The pappardelle was overcooked. Whatever noodles we did have were stuck together in a ball and very mushy, gummy, and pasty. The ragu had no flavor. Very bland. The meat--no flavor. Again, we had to add salt & pepper. I was choking down the food because I was hungry but I should have sent it back. If you couldn't tell, everything lacked FLAVOR. If you want authentic Italian, don't come here. Don't expect it to taste like anything you'd have in Italy, even if people there are speaking Italian. Not one item we ordered was worth what we were charged.

Yelp
Service was great I got the chicken marsala, and it was one of the best chicken marsala that I've ever had.

Yelp
We only stopped in for a drink but spent time looking over the menu and learning about the place from the bartender who was excellent. She told us that the menu is based upon southern italian cuisine where the chef owner is from. Sorrento, specifically. They are on open table with I love for the simplicity of making a reservation. Like all of the places in the area, street parking is hit or miss but there's a parking garage close by and prices are reasonable. I've parked there dozens of times with no issues. The ambiance is very charming. They were decorated for the holidays and it was tasteful and festive. We're definitely returning for dinner and I'll update this review once we have.

Yelp
Back to 'A Vucchelia for early dinner on a Saturday before the rush & enjoyed our simple salad, lightly fried calamari & personal margarita apizza for starters before moving on to soups & delicious pastas. The table is provided a generous serving of rustic style Italian bread - if you expect it delivered warm & with butter, you need to ask for that. Pasquale has a wonderful selection of Italian wines & we enjoyed our selection of 2018 Neprica Cabernet Sauvignon very much. European style dining at this Trattoria leaves plenty of room to enjoy dessert & We shared a wonderful trifecta flavored chocolate covered spumoni gelato along with our & rich espressos. Our cozy table in the back room was illuminated by a cabaret style light on each table - providing very pleasant ambiance. Our servers took great care of us. Looking forward to our Christmas Eve dinner with the rest of the family.

Yelp
Great service but overcooked pasta and food has no flavor. Very disappointing. Nice ambiance. Can't have a restaurant with good service and ambiance alone though. Bleh!

Yelp
A true, authentic Italian restaurant . my husband and I are very picky eaters when it comes to Italian food since our mothers cooked authentic Italian food ! Trattoria A Vucchella brings back all of our memories from our mother's cooking . Every dish we had was absolutely amazing ! our new favorite spot ! thank you Pasquale

Ron B.

Yelp
All around recommendation. Food was all very good, service extraordinary. Gnocchi was the best I've ever had, but all pastas were authentic. Don't sleep on the pizza either, it's right up there with the best in the area. We sat in the enclosed patio which has both fans and heaters for comfort. Thanks Pasquale for a great post-graduation lunch!!

Foodie C.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. I had the eggplant parm which was great. We ate in the outdoor patio which is lovely. This is far from my house but worth the trip for the great Italian food and service.

Yelp
The restaurant was nice and very clean. Our server was nice and very attentive. I ordered a salad. It was basic and was disappointed that there was only one option for dressing. For my entree I ordered the Lasagna. It was slightly warm, could have been cooked longer. There wasn't much meat inside, and I wasn't a fan of the bechamel. I did like that the noodles were house made. I would not order again. I may return and try other options.

Yelp
Outstanding food and service. Tried this place for the first time on Valentines Day. Their gnocchis are served up in a creamy sauce & their salad came out drizzled in a sweet vinaigrette dressing. Their braised pork chop was so tender that the meat practically falls off the bone. The chocolate mousse dessert comes in a shareable portion size & topped with a confection of whipped cream & browned sugar. Excellent service all the way around. After 5p there is ample street parking available. Hint: everyone gets the fried calamari for an appetizer, so go for the eggplant instead.

Yelp
Didn't think there was decent eateries in downtown Bridgeport due to known reputation of Bridgeport. Found this place when googled best italian restaurants near Bridgeport. Decor was nice, Indoor or outdoor seating provided. Food was okay, nothing to rave or write home about. Lasagna was eh, okay, needed more bolognese sauce. Neopolitan pizza was okay, a lil softer than I'm used to but good. Soda machine went kaput so had to get another beverage. Service was okay. For Bridgeport standards, it was good.
google avatar

Bao N.

Yelp
It was ok. I got the stinco and pappardelle al ragu. My pappardelle was overcooked and the ragu was under-seasoned. The braised pork shank lacked seasoning as well. It was slow-cooked, but was not off the bone soft. At least the mashed potatoes were seasoned and delicious. I got my order to go and pick-up was easy. This place is expensive and I don't think the food warrants the price. It was not good. I am most disappointed in the pappardelle being overlooked and made the dish just mushy.

Yelp
This is our go-to spot before a concert. You can park by the restaurant for free and it is a 15-minute walk to the arena. Authentic Italian from homemade pastas to meatballs. We had cocktails, cheese plate, 2 glasses of wine, and 3 huge entrees. Damages for 3 with tip was $180. Service always good so you won't be late..

Yelp
This was easily the best Italian food I have ever eaten in CT. The food was amazing. I had the lasagne and a Sicilian pistachio gelato after dinner. So amazing. I highly recommend it. This is not fast food so be patient while waiting. If you are in a rush it might not be the place for you, so allow some time for an excellent meal.

CT L.

Yelp
Very enjoyable. For appetizer had eggplant parmigiana which was delicious. Followed with the wood fired brisket ragu over rigatoni which was also very good. For desert spumoni. Service was friendly and efficient. Arrived at time of reservation and was seated immediately even though the restaurant was full. This is a rather small restaurant which is a very comfortable neighborhood place. Only slight inconvenience, which had nothing to do with restaurant itself, as that we could not figure out how to pay the street parking meter via the app. Instead used the nearby garage ($7.00). Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Wonderful food, prepared with passion,by a chef that knows the rules of Italian food. The bartender, Concetta, an Italian lady of great elegance, was very knowledgeable about Italian cuisine. A great dining experience! Perfetto!! Un'elegante esperienza culinaria!!
google avatar

Yelp
Went for a small business lunch in downtown bridgeport. PARKING - is not a major problem but expect to feed meters with quarters if there are any street spots available. One nice thing is there is a $5 parking lot literally right next door ENTRANCE - virtually empty at 12:30 pm but the host/waitress saw us and seated us quickly AMBIANCE - very elegant and rustic looking inside. There aren't a plethora of tables but all had nice white table cloths. MENU - the lunch menu came in a nice binder with just enough options. There were no specials at lunch ENTREES - we skipped the appetizers and ordered main dishes. I had the veal Marsala that was good but not super. The carbonara was very good and not very thick. They have gluten free pasta and combined with the bolognese meat sauce made a good dish VINO - we didn't order any wine so I'll have to come back. DESSERT - we skipped this as well PRICES - I'd say extremely reasonable as the tab for 4 people with no drinks and excluding tip was only $120

Richard M.

Yelp
Ok, you need to stop whatever you're doing and make a reservation at this delightful restaurant immediately. We ducked in to have a quick dinner on a cold winter night and were met by a warm, friendly staff (that's you, Mel) and an intriguing menu that did not disappoint. We started with a cheese and charcuterie appetizer, followed by pastas - the Genovese (slow cooked beef) and salsiccia (house-made sausage and tomatoes- then topped it off with a tiramisu and a gelato. Oh, and did I mention the excellent wine selection? I recently returned from Italy and this is the best meal I've had since then. We will be back, with the whole family.

Judy P.

Yelp
The food is always fresh and amazingly delicious and original. I like to go out to eat things that I can't prepare at home. The service is always friendly and heart felt. The place it self has so much to look at and beautiful done.
google avatar

Susanne B.

Yelp
Nothing short of amazing. From the professional staff to the delicious food, our experience was perfect from the moment we walked in the door. The homemade pasta was perfect, the martinis were ice cold, and the pizza was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Nancy G.

Yelp
This place is the closest to Italy for pizza I've ever had. I always get the pursuit pizza, but anytime anybody else comes with me and gets any other dish. Everything is homemade and tastes amazing. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and everyone has a great time. Totally recommend it for romantic and cozy spot but I've gone with family and enjoyed it immensely
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
The pizza here is pretty good, not my favorite, but I'd definitely try it again. The people seemed decently nice and I hope to return in the near future to try more things on the menu and give it a second shot as this restaurant is very quaint, cozy and beautiful and am hoping to truly love it

Yelp
Went for an early dinner on a Saturday night. Service was fine and friendly. Food was just okay though. Was a little disappointed. Especially with the special that I ordered. The orechetti with broccoli rabe and sausage. It tasted fine but the portion size left a lot to be desired. It looked like maybe an appetizer. For $26, I certainly expected much more of a meal than what I received. It was served in a small oval dish and looked like it was scraped from the bottom of the bowl. Maybe the last of what they had left to serve. I don't know, but it was really good just wish I had more of it.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
I've had to knock this fine eatablish down a star because as great as it is, and as many times I've been here, the food can be a little uneven. Entrees I've rapsodized about have not always been as great when I've ordered them again. I guess it depends on who's cooking in three kitchen on the day you stop by. Otherwise itsmtop notch and worthy of your time and your money.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing authentic cuisine with great staff! The food is so delicious and they gave an extensive bar as well!
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Such a sweet gem in the downtown area near the Amphitheater. Went here with 7 others after graduation, and they were very accommodating to our last minute plans. The ambiance is beautiful, like a little taste of Italy. But the food-- SO DELICIOUS!! Beautifully presented and clean. I can't wait to go back for a date night!

Mark H.

Yelp
Where to begin? Tremendous food at a great price. We had the antipasto della casa, eggplant parmaigiano, ziti and meatballs, and the carpaccio di manzo. Homemade cheesecake was AMAZING. Such personal service - we had delightful conversations with the owner Pasquale. Highly highly recommend.
google avatar

Allison R.

Yelp
Amazing, authentic experience!!! Not only was the staff incredibly friendly and personable, but the food was incredible. We ordered the calamari, ragu, sole francese, and affogato. Everything was spectacular, especially the homemade pasta with ragu. Complementary bread is served at the beginning, with the most incredible olive oil. We got a Tuscan wine which was perfection. We will absolutely be back - it beats all the Italian places we've been to in Fairfield so far - we'll worth the drive to Bridgeport. We absolutely loved our waitress, super sweet. 12/10 would recommend this place!
google avatar

Al l.

Yelp
The food was top notch! I have been there twice and it never failed me. Met the owner the second time and felt his passion to put out great dishes!

Jen R.

Yelp
G o to this restaurant!! Delicious food! Authentic Italian which made us feel like we were back on vacation in Italy! Wonderful service! The homemade pasta, pizza and sauce were out of this world. Don't hesitate, Just go!

Yelp
Best restaurant in Fairfield county Superb wine (I'm a wine snob) Unparalleled service (Joe was fantastic ) This is dining at its best, a slice of Italy on Fairfield Ave Superb and flavorful food

Yelp
Love this restaurant! Excellent food and amazing staff, very friendly, very attentive. Went above and beyond to help us organize a surprise party. The whole team was involved in organizing this. We had a great time. We had pizzas and eggplant parm both yummy

Yelp
We had dinner here before attending a concert at the Bijou Theater across the street. The food was delicious. The service was fantastic.
google avatar

Bonnie R.

Yelp
Great stop before a show at the Bijou. Pizza was tasty and the lasagna was delicious.
google avatar

Eric T.

Yelp
So I've been here a few times now. Usually for work lunch/dinners, and it's always been fantastic. The pizzas are thin and crispy. Thinner than New Haven style. Their lasagna has great flavor, and the sheets are so tender. The gnocchi is the best I've had. These were like eating pillows. So tender. Sauces are so flavorful. Great spot for dinners. The owner Pasquale is such a gem too.
google avatar

Yelp
Jury duty lunch spot. This one is new for me. One of my fellow jurors was there this week and highly recommended it. Looking through the yelp reviews only confirmed her rec. I sat at the bar and was able to hear lots of Italian being spoken around me. I love that! The bread was fresh and served with a flavorful olive oil. The Octopus salad was on special and I can't say enough about it. Usually when I order this I get lots of salad and a little octopus. Today I had a bunch of octopus at the end and had to ration my salad to have a scoop with each piece of grilled fresh octopus. The base was a arugula, carrot shavings, olives, tomatoes and celery with a light oil based dressing. The taste was fresh and delicious. I finished with a nice Cappuccino. I have to add this place to the list of place to go while on jury duty and also for date night.

Yelp
Fantastic food, very friendly and helpful staff!! Had several pizzas, eggplant parmigiana, tiramisu, gelato, montepulciano... everything was excellent. They accommodated us for a surprise party. Got the window seat. Warm summer evening. A great time was had by all. A magical evening. Thank you, 'A Vucchella team!
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
I picked Trattoria 'A Vucchella for my birthday dinner and it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be for my first visit. They were BUSY, and there clearly wasn't enough staff on hand. Everyone was working, but it was clear they needed an extra staff member or two. Everything took a looong time, from getting the menus, to getting waters, placing an order and finally getting food. After searching the menu for something to order, I went with pizza. Why? The entrees were a bit pricey and simple chicken dishes were $20 plus and didn't even come with pasta or a sided of mashed potatoes. They did have sides you could select like asparagus, broccoli, spinach, etc., but they were $8.00 each. So pizza it was, but that's still expensive. I got their meatball pizza with onions (plus sauce and cheese) and it was $18 for a personal/small size pizza. I go to all types of restaurants at all different price points, and I don't mind splurging on good food, but this pizza was only o.k., and nothing special or memorable. I kept commenting that it was good pizza but I've had better at XX place. Also, the crust was way to doughy for my liking. He felt the same about his pizza with prosciutto and arugula. I tried his and thought it lacked flavor and I decided I selected the better option. We split a bottle of white wine, Vermentino Di Sardgena, and we ordered it because at $32, it was one of the cheaper/est wines on the menu. Again, this review focuses so much on price, but that's because we both walked away stunned that we were still hungry given what we paid for our meals.
google avatar

Debrin S.

Yelp
We had heard so much about this spot so we were in great expectation. At 1st glance it seemed quaint with its cozy window seating, airiness, tall windows, table clothes & modest bar. Staff was friendly. The wine list features Italian Regional varietals only. I tried a Rosé from montepulciano which was surprisingly solid. The charcuterie was good. Not the best prosciutto was not the best however the cheese was stellar. The bread was exceptional and of course from Terranova in the Bronx. We devoured the local clams in a white wine broth. I 1st ordered the gnocchi. So very disappointed. Not tender or fluffy and the sauce was literally flavorless. No choice but to send it back. I then ordered the house made parpadelle with truffles which was a very small portion but highly flavored. My husband was served the very smallest branzino (no head) we've ever seen. It wasn't memorable. Everything, I mean every dish was peppered w halved grape tomatoes, bar the charcuterie. See my photos. We found this strange, repetitious & unnecessary. Perhaps an off night but the owners were present, often visiting our table. Unfortunately we were not impressed and left still hungry.

Yelp
Originally, had a great experience see info below. However, my most recent experience has caused me to move review from five stars to two. We had awful service from our server Pasquale (son of owner?). Took almost a half hour to get our bill despite Indicating we needed check. Also, we were the only table we saw not offered the lemoncello. After feeling so welcome last time was very disappointed and felt unwelcome. I do not plan to return. Original review (5 months ago) We had a great experience here! Pasquale the owner is outstanding and makes you feel like you are on the Amalfi Coast. He seems to be a genuinely great guy who cares about his customers and restaurant. We had the zucchini Parmesan for an appetizer, gnocchi in a creamy crab sauce and papparadelle with lamb ragu. If you like restaurants that go beyond the "normal Italian", this place is for you. We are so happy we tried this restaurant and plan to return in the near future. Outstanding!
google avatar

Gringo X.

Yelp
I would go here more frequently if the food were consistent. I suggest going on a weekday the food is much better. Picked up a pizza on Saturday and the dough was barely cooked through like floppy and gummy. Strange because the outside had nice color. Had other similar experience with risotto on a weekend night. Cold in the middle. Like ice. Then again I had a pizza mid week and it was amazing! So much good pizza around it's got to be more consistent here.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant in the area. The food is always fresh and outstanding and the personal touch is superb.

Yelp
We ordered food to pick up where I am staying in Connecticut. Guys.... This places is a MOST! Their pizza is AMAZING!!!! Oh my god! Their pasta is so tasty and their calamari is excellent. Definitely a MOST in Bridgeport, CT.
google avatar

Lizzie L.

Yelp
We took the ferry from Port Jefferson to Bridgeport and found out that all the stores were closed due to the Covid pandemic. Thank god we found this restaurant, not only the store is open, they play the music at outdoor seating area to make it more fun. Love the food and outdoor seating, Italian waiter Pasquela is super friendly! Will visit again if we go back to Bridgeport. Ciao!

Yelp
I had am amazing dinner last night. We had eggplant parmigiana, fresh past with seafood, pappardelle with bolognese and tiramisu. The parmigiana was super and pastas too. Best italian restaurant with authentic italian food. Next time I have to try pizza.
