I picked Trattoria 'A Vucchella for my birthday dinner and it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be for my first visit.
They were BUSY, and there clearly wasn't enough staff on hand. Everyone was working, but it was clear they needed an extra staff member or two. Everything took a looong time, from getting the menus, to getting waters, placing an order and finally getting food.
After searching the menu for something to order, I went with pizza. Why? The entrees were a bit pricey and simple chicken dishes were $20 plus and didn't even come with pasta or a sided of mashed potatoes. They did have sides you could select like asparagus, broccoli, spinach, etc., but they were $8.00 each. So pizza it was, but that's still expensive. I got their meatball pizza with onions (plus sauce and cheese) and it was $18 for a personal/small size pizza.
I go to all types of restaurants at all different price points, and I don't mind splurging on good food, but this pizza was only o.k., and nothing special or memorable. I kept commenting that it was good pizza but I've had better at XX place. Also, the crust was way to doughy for my liking. He felt the same about his pizza with prosciutto and arugula. I tried his and thought it lacked flavor and I decided I selected the better option.
We split a bottle of white wine, Vermentino Di Sardgena, and we ordered it because at $32, it was one of the cheaper/est wines on the menu. Again, this review focuses so much on price, but that's because we both walked away stunned that we were still hungry given what we paid for our meals.
