We made a reservation by phone a few days in advance. We originally tried to book dinner, but were told they do not accept children in the evening, and they offered us a lunch reservation instead, which we accepted. We respect their rules and don’t have anything against it, of course.
Today, we arrived and the entrance to the restaurant is very narrow. My husband went in to let them know we had arrived. Instead of welcoming us, they told him they could not open the other part of the door and acted as if they were not pleased that we had come at all.
We asked what we should do — whether we should fold the stroller and try to manage somehow. They simply said we could “try” and walked away. No one came to help, no one held the door, and there was no basic courtesy or welcome.
We attempted to fold the stroller outside in the rain, but with no assistance and no clear intention from the staff to accommodate us, we did not feel comfortable forcing our way in. So we left after 10minutes.
We had carefully organized our entire day around this reservation. Our lunch was booked for 1 PM, and before arriving we had fed and settled our baby so she would sleep during the meal. As a breastfeeding mother, I time my meals very carefully so that I can return to the hotel in time to feed my baby again, but also I need to eat to have milk for her.
Instead, we ended up walking in the rain trying to find another restaurant in a city we do not know, without any reservation.
You could simply have told us that you would not be able to accommodate us, or during the reservation you should have informed us that entering with a stroller would not be possible. There is plenty of good restaurants in Rome, with better service, food, and reviews- we would just go there.
We reserved in advance, arrived on time, and did everything we could from our side to make this visit smooth and respectful. Unfortunately, it was very clear that we were not welcome and that bad reputation you have online is not a scam.
Very disappointing experience. Our recommendation is to skip this restaurant, and spend your time and money somewhere where they will treat people in a nice way, as a human beings. You should be ashamed to treat people like this.
