"This trattoria opposite Juliet’s house (open to the public; admission fee payable) in Verona’s historic centre boasts wood panelling, period photos and tables set close together and adorned with checked tablecloths. The menu features mainly regional cuisine, with plenty of pasta and meat dishes, plus an excellent selection of Italian salumi and cheeses, all accompanied by a good selection of wines." - Michelin Inspector

We thought there’s a chance that Trattoria al Pompiere might be a tourist trap since Verona is a small town without too many restaurants, especially in this price range. But this was a very fantastic meal. We didn’t expect the restaurant to have such a high caliber of taste and authenticity in their food. Definitely worth booking a reservation here if you’re stopping by Verona.

We had a good experience at Trattoria al Pompiere. The mixed cheese tasting was very good, although the jelly was brought out late, after we had already eaten most of the cheeses. The cold tomato and peppers purée with marinated garden vegetables and herbs was excellent – full of flavor and the highlight of the meal. The tagliolini with fresh forest mushrooms and truffles were pretty good, though we did have better pasta dishes elsewhere in Verona. The parmigiana was also solid. The restaurant has a homey, traditional decor. Service was fine, though not quite as attentive as other places we visited. Overall, worth trying if you’re looking for a classic spot in Verona.

Unique menu with great pastas. We were seated outside as the weather was nice but the foot traffic was a little close for comfort. All dishes were executed very timely and had balanced flavours.

Delicous food, however since I was solo, they were not very happy that I want to sit at the terrace. They placed me to a connecting table with a young couple which was quite awkward just because they did not want to give table meant for two just for me. However there remained enough empty tables even after I left. I wanted to have risotto, but you cannot order just one portion, minimum is two. Also both food and drinks are quite overpriced. This was my most expensive lunch out of 3 cities I have visited in Italy this summer. The young boy waiter was really sweet, decent and professional, he will be a fine professional worker one day and he was actually a better waiter than I experienced in many other restaurants. The adult waiter was professional, but not very cordial. I would probably have also a dessert (since the pasta portion was quite small), but I did not feel comfortable or particularly welcome.

I had a lovely dinner at this restaurant, and one standout dish that truly shone was the tiramisu, it was hands-down one of the best I've ever had! I highly recommend ordering it, trust me, you won't regret it. The starters were also delicious, particularly the parmesan eggplant. My main course, beef cheek, was good, but it was the tiramisu that stole the show. The atmosphere was quintessentially Italian and cozy, adding to the overall experience. The location is great, right in front of Juliet's house. Yes, it's a bit on the pricier side, but given the quality and ambiance, it's worth every penny. The wine by the glass list also stood out.

Google
Recommended by a friend who had been recommended by another friend! And for extremely good reason. The food was fantastic. The cheese selection was amazing if you like cheese! The beef tartare, pork knuckle and ravioli were stunning. The staff were lovely and knowledgeable. The place itself is extremely characterable. Completely recommend.

Google
Incredibly delicious dishes absolutely everything we ordered and also excellent service 👍🏻 They can easily replace mashed potatoes with vegetables due to tolerance and overall a professional approach! I will definitely back here 😊

We booked a table at Trattoria Al Pompieri months in advance for 1st July, looking forward to dining there during our trip. Two weeks before, we received an email saying the restaurant would be closed for kitchen refurbishment and that our reservation had to be cancelled. We accepted this explanation and rebooked elsewhere. However, on the evening of 1st July, we walked past the restaurant to find it open, busy, and fully operational — no sign of any kitchen works or closures. We went inside and spoke directly with the staff member who had emailed us. Her reaction made it obvious that she had been caught out. She offered no honest explanation. We felt deceived and extremely disappointed. On returning home, we discovered other reviews describing similar situations — last-minute cancellations with vague or false justifications. This seems to be a pattern of behaviour. As travellers who plan ahead and value honesty, we find this level of disrespect and dishonesty unacceptable. We strongly advise future guests to be cautious when booking.

Yelp
We came on recommendation of a friend and he did NOT steer us wrong! beautiful restaurant and reservations are highly recommended! The place is small and has tons and tons of photos covering the walls. We started with a plate of mixed sliced salamis and prosciutto. Perfect slices and perfect amount for two people. My husband had the pasta e fagioli which was probably one of the best we've ever tried... Strike that, it was the best! I went for a local dish of gnocchi ragu d'asino. In case you were wondering - asino = donkey. Slow cooked and tastes nothing like what you would think. If I didnt know what it was, I would have thought it was beef. My husband had the brasato al amarone for a second course. Food is tremendous and service is even better. If you only have 1 night in Verona, this is the place to go.

Yelp
A lovely dinner here with friends here in Verona. The service was fantastic and the food very good as well. The antipasto was burrata caprese. Then some spinach crespelle. The wine list is excellent. We sat outside this time but I think the inside might be more calm. There is considerable foot traffic in the alley.

Yelp
Wonderful, Wonderful Lunch! Charming established Trattoria in Verona! Service was fabulous! Rustic and delicious was their food! Started with their incredible locally raised, in house freshly sliced, Salumi Plate: the Ham and Salami were amazing, yet it was their LARDO, strips of fatback, that caught my attention, perfectly cured with taste of rosemary, herbs & spices, YUM! Next, their blew me away Mushroom Pasta: al dente were the pasta; flavorful were the mushrooms; simply tossed with virgin oil; DELIGHTFUL! Last for dessert, OMG, their TIRAMISU sure "lifted me up" from my flights: hint of espresso; creamy and decadent custard; fluffy whipped cream; the dust of dark cocoa powder on top; HEAVENLY! There were fewer tables with tourists on this Thursday than from what I heard and observed from the greetings, as their repeating loyal customers! Oh yeah, it's nice to be part of the FAMILY here! CHEERS!

Yelp
Wow! I don't use this lightly as our tour across Italy over two weeks presented some amazing food opportunities. Right from the greeting and recommendations the vibe from the wait staff delivering our cocktails and wine, to the waiter (wearing chef's attire) were so polite and accommodating. The food arrived (Eggplant Parmigiana for her and Wild Boar Ragout Parpadelle for me. Both were outstanding!! And to top it all off at the end of the night...we shredded the Sinofica Chocolate and the Semifreddo deserts (see below). Excellent choice and recomm NDA toon from our hotel!!

Yelp
I'm sorry, this place is not very good at all. We started with risotto, mistake #1. It was very under cooked, stuck in your teeth hard. I mean really, in Italy and you don't know how to cook risotto? Then we had beef cheek. It was supposed to be a tender roast, but seemed more like it was cooked to order. We skipped desert, just too unappealing at that point.

Yelp
You need to make reservation, especially for Thursday eve, but we were lucky enough to get a table for an hour and a half. Very good Italian restaurant with knowledgeable waiters. Their well known burrata cheese (cow milk cheese made from mozzarella and cream) and a plate of salami and meat is a great appetizer. From that point on, their pasta dishes are very tasty - I took the tagliolini as the primi dish and the tiramisu for dessert.

Yelp
Four stars for this restaurant! Salumi super fresh and amazing fresh bread was starter, for secondo spaghetti with tomato sauce and burata and Risotto al parmigiano with tartufo! Special taste and not for everybody but I liked it ! Price as always in so touristic places bit high but the quality allows this prices ! €€-€€€!

Yelp
If I could leave 6 or 7 stars here I would. What an amazing place! Come here if you're in town for a night. The staff is sensational, the atmosphere is beautiful and the food is wondrous.

Yelp
Easily one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Food was simple yet everything from the burrata to the risotto melted in your mouth. Rock star wine list with lots of affordable bottles. Wait staff was perfection. Don't miss it.

Yelp
One of the BEST restaurants my husband and I have ever been to! We always mention the fabulous entrees we ate, the Oseleta wine, the courteous attention from the waiters, the great visit from the master chef, and the award-winning tiramisu we had at dinner FOUR YEARS AGO! That was the best dinner we had in Italy on that trip! If you get the chance, make a reservation in advance and try it! Delicioso! One day we will return ...

Yelp
Great! Perfect! The best place for typical italian food in Verona! Started with a beef carpaccio which was tasty. A spaghetti with beans was great as well as the sliced beef as main course. The best part was the world's best tiramisu awarded special tiramisu of them! Hıghly recommended!

Yelp
Very rustic simple but elegant Italian restaurant. Firstly, service is outstanding. They are fast, on point, but not intrusive. We asked our waiter to pick out a local, small Amarone producer and he picked a wonderful wine for $75. He could have easily directed me higher. We started with a mixed plate of sliced meats. Let me just say this: they have 2 guys who do nothing but slice these beautiful meats. Just order it! For main courses Wife had tagliatelle with artichokes. I had gnocchi in red sauce followed up by liver with polenta. Each dish was sublime. We made reservations to go back tomorrow. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Go!

Yelp
I would venture to say this is the best restaurant in Verona with very attentive wait staff, a chef who greets you at the table, a wonderful selection of wine and the world's best tiramisu. We walked past it twice thinking it was closed since the shades were down but fortunately my husband pulled on the door. Inside we discovered many locals enjoying lunch, ham hocks hanging from the ceiling to dry, a selections cheeses and an inviting atmosphere with walls filled with black and white photos (we think of famous Italians) and kitchen witches decorating the ceiling. To start we shared a prosciutto and salami plate where the meats were sliced paper thin along with a selection of fresh bread, pickled vegetables, fine olive oil and a glass of Valpolicella Superiore. I ordered the Guinea hen with asparagus and squash which was very tender and tasty. My husband had gnocchi which he said was light and airy and my daughter had the special of the day, beef cheeks which was very succulent We ended with their world famous tiramisu which just exploded in our mouths with flavor Eventhough this felt like a large midday meal which Italians enjoy I did not feel overly full but very satisfied and for all that we enjoyed the price was very reasonable.

Yelp

Yelp
Lovely little restaurant off the beaten track. Food was cold in the middle. (Parmigiana de melenzane)

Yelp
We had a nice lunch here by chance. Our waiter maybe didn't take us seriously, but service was adequate. The pasta and salad were very delicious. The wine list was about 70 pages by the bottle, and 8 flavors by the glass. But, enough because what we had was good. Probably best to try this place for dinner..

Yelp
I went to Verona this past September, and eating at Al Pompiere was one of the highlights of a fantastic trip. Their plate of mixed cured meats is one of the best dishes I have ever had. We got a plate for two, which came with lardo, prosciutto, parma ham, and salami. Each slice of each one was something to savor. We saved up loads of room for dinner, so ordered a load of food, all of which was good. That included an excellent lentil soup, and two very good entrees and desserts (though I can't remember what they were. I just remember they were great!). Service and atmosphere are also fantastic. It has an old world, local feel, and the restaurant is divided into two fairly small rooms, which means that you can people watch as you eat. I would definitely recommend that anyone who travels to Verona go here!

Yelp
Very good food at a classic, old school place. The Ventian style calf's liver with grilled polenta was some of the most tender liver I've ever had, and the cold tomato soup with goat cheese was perfect after a long day of slogging through the heat. We sat outside, because inside was jammed and also like a furnace, and our waiter sort of couldn't be too bothered with us. Like anothet reviewer, I felt he kind of didn't take us seriousky as patrons. He was friendly with Italian speakers, but very perfunctory with us. And yeah, I get the whole language barrier thing, but my eife and I are goid and communicating without a common tongue. The service was so slow, it bordered on epic. My second glass of wine never came and it took as long to get the check as it did to eat our entrees. I don't mind old school service, but this was a bit ridiculous. If dinner for 2 had been 40 euros I wouldn't have minded, but 80 euros plus service kind of knocks it down a star for me.

Yelp
Recommend to us by a local friend, we had our best meal in Italy here. Only had carpaccio and a couple of pasta dishes, but it was superb. The wine list is vast, but we got some help and also had the best bottle of wine we drank in Italy (Amarone).
