The 24 Best Restaurants In Venice, Italy - Venice - The Infatuation

"The menu at Trattoria Al Vecio Portal is modern and Venetian, but you might find steak tartare with Filipino flavors like ginger and soy, or ravioli that feel spiritually connected to gyoza. Any seafood dish on the rotating menu—whether that’s the garganelli with clams, tagliolini with shrimp and artichokes, or tuna tartare with soy, capers, and chives—is going to be excellent. Come for dinner, get a bottle off the natural wine list, sit in the huge garden in the back, and always save room for sorbet and the only cannoli worth having in Venice." - gillian mcguire, carlo mantuano

The 16 Best Restaurants In Venice, Italy 2024

"We applaud Trattoria Al Vecio Portal for serving Sicilan food in Venice—you might know about the fierce rivalry between the Italian north and south. Turns out, the dishes are so good, that they could dish up plates of caponata with extremely good bread at some random point in the Mediterranean Sea and it'd still be worth the visit. Any seafood dish coming out of the kitchen (whether that’s the garganelli with clams, tagliolini with shrimp, or tuna tartare with soy, capers, and chives) is going to be excellent. Come for dinner, get a bottle off the natural wine list, sit in the huge garden in the back, and always save room for the chocolate mousse and sorbet." - gillian mcguire

Google
This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and we booked about 6-8 weeks ahead for dinner for our first night in Venice. It was by far the best restaurant we ate at during our 4 days in Venice. They offer outdoor seating but I preferred the warmth and atmosphere of the indoor area. If you do eat outside, be sure to check out the wall of bottle openers! The food was incredible from start to finish. The wine was phenomenal as was the presentation when we were served our chosen bottle of red wine for the initial tasting. Ended with grappa to aid our digestion which hit the spot! It is right off the main area tucked away so it is not as busy with tourists. If you are looking for traditional Italian cuisine in a quieter area with great service, you will not be disappointed.

Google
Fabulous meal - best we ate in Venice. It was a very quiet Monday in November but they still made the evening special. Delicious pasta, lamb, fish and the tiramisu is not to be missed! Excellent wine too.

Google
honestly the food is 5 stars and one of the best meals of the trip. however, it was pretty pricy and got bit by mosquitoes after the sun set hence the one star deduction. eggplant dip: top tier tuna cracker: also delicious gnocchi: must try! so flavorful and perfectly cooked

Google
Came here with a group of friends on vacation (6 total) and had an amazing, memorable meal. Our waiter Alvise was kind and so fun to talk to, making our experience in the beautiful garden space even better. We loved everything we ate including the tartares, red sauce pasta, lamb chops and gnocchi. The chef is Sicilian and has created wonderful dishes in addition to the Venetian cuisine. Truly the best sorbet (rosemary and strawberry) and cannolis of our lives! Come here and you’ll be taken care of.

Google
Excellent food, beautifully plated! Kind and knowledgeable staff. Great wine selection and the interior garden is beautiful and peaceful

Google
Excellent price to quality ratio. Simply great quality local specialities, with creative modifications. Very comprehensive wine list. When you're looking for solid good food in less casual than Bistrot de Venise environment. Really friendly service.

Google
Beautiful presentation of the food. Quiet street off the beaten path. Homemade everything. We had the potato gnocchi with scallops and shrimp and the spaghetti with tomato and basil. Appetizer of grilled octopus with potato and honey onions was fabulous. Get a street table for lunch as the interior garden is too sunny. If I am ever back in Venice I would come in the evening and ask to sit there. Cost is worth every penny. We did not add drinks to our estimate.

Google
Was recommended by hotel but it was a terribly experience, particularly compared with other local Trattoria we’d been to. Host was not welcoming (which we put down to poor English skills which seemed strange based on other places) and the mains were terrible. We had lamb and a pork main off the standard menu. When they arrived they were the wrong way round and we said that, but they could distinguish between the two ! We did based on taste. The mains were no better than canteen food and no way worth the 25 euros for lamb and 18 for the pork. It was a very disappointing evening. I’m sure if we were Italian it would have been much better.

Yelp
From the warm greeting of the owner Giuseppe to the outstanding cuisine and cozy ambiance, this family run trattoria is a must try for anyone visiting Venice. Excellent service and wine pairing. The tuna tartare, ravioli and Caprese salad were all five- star.

Yelp
We had dinner here our last night in Italy and it was wonderful. Hardworking family - father, mother and son take great pride and care. We had the mussels - the absolute best! My husband had the eggplant ravioli and I had the spaghetti with tomato and basil. Good, simple, good full of flavor.

Yelp
This was not our choice to have lunch but they were accommodating and very friendly. The Service was good except for when he gave us a mosquito repellant spray so I was a bit distracted that may be the reason why I can't remember my dish.

Yelp
Do not fail to go to this restaurant if you are in Venice. My tattoo artist, a Venetian resident, recommended this place unsolicited. She said it was popular with Venetians because the food was very good and the prices were very reasonable to moderate. It is a few blocks off the popular tourist tracks and well worth the steps. My wife had the pork tenderloin with a rosemary cream sauce....Lovely sauce that I need to try to emulate at home. Pork line was tender and cooked masterfully. There was a polenta type potato side that will cause a delightful swoon. My gnocchi with shrimp and scallops was stunning. As was the second plate of tuna in a Rosemary mashed potatoes. Our wine was a Dolcetta d'Alba for only 30€ and is a bargain by American measures. The place has a pleasantly amusing ambiance, and very good and inexpensive pizza for the kids. My children are everything put in front of them.

Yelp
This place was simply amazing. In our short stay in Venice, we were lucky enough to try this place out on our first night. The food was to die for We ordered the eggplant ravioli and the lasagna and we couldn't have been happier. The lasagna was so soft and just melted in your mouth. It was the perfect amount of sweet and salty. It felt like I was eating the yummiest cloud in the world. We also got a half bottle of their house wine, which I did not enjoy. The tiramisu for dessert was also great. We came back here on our second night and ordered the same dishes. So good. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Will definitely be back here next time I'm in Venice!

Yelp
Had probably one of the best octopus dish im we've ever had! Nicely spiced and amazingly tender - perfectly cooked. The seafood pasta tasted of seafood and just what I had wanted. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we were so happy to have found this gem. Exactly what we had hoped for!

Yelp
This place rocks. Carbonara was the best I've had in Italy. House wine is great and cheap. They represent their city well!

Yelp
Hidden behind the main water walkway but this restaurant has some tasty food with homemade pasta that locals love to hang out. We're skeptical at first but have dinner there our last two nights. The price is reasonable compared to restaurants out on the water front.

Yelp
I don't give many 1 star reviews (in good part to reading other people's great yelp reviews!) but this place deserves it. Food: Have you been to the olive garden? That place is better. We ordered lasagna, which tasted like the frozen stuff from the Super market (but it was made fresh so that is not a good thing), and home made spaghetti with porcini mushrooms and scallops. There were no scallops and spaghetti was not fresh made. Cost: 50 Euros. Rip off for what we ordered (those two entrees and 9 Euro bruschetta) Service: Dinner was 3 hours. Not because we liked the atmosphere, but because of the time it took to get the waiters attention to order and get the bill. God, 1 hour just to get the bill after asking 3 times. The waiter spent a lot of time smoking and drinking on the job - Italian guy that may have been the owner. Other waiters looked sour doing their jobs. We started dinner at 7:30p Tip if you still decide to go: ask to sit in the garden. It has more space and nicer area. Other travel review site (T. A.): Look at where the reviews come from, the UK, how flavorful is their food? :) Final thoughts: please please don't spend your valuable time and money here. My goal of writing this is to help people on vacation right now (my second to last day in Venice). Good eating!

Yelp
Went here twice during our short stay in Venice. The first night was great, good service and wonderful fresh cooking. I would give it 5 stars, but on the 2nd night I got the preset 18 euro meal, which was good for value but you're better off getting something off the seasonal menu. Their appetizer crouton-like to nibble on while you peruse the menu are delicious as well. If it's available, get the profiteroles for dessert! I would definitely recommend it.

Amiki S.

Yelp
A great place run by owner / waiter / chef Pino, a Sicilian. Great food, very good home made pasta and the best Sardes Al Saor in Venice so far. And it's cheap too. Highly recommended!

Bianca Y.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars to this restaurant I would. This is by far the worst restaurant I have been to Italy, and believe me I have been to a lot. The service was horrendous, I have never received worse customer service to when I entered this restaurant. The waiters ignored us every time we tried to get their attention, and when we were finally able to get a hold of one he was rude and had a very unpleasant attitude. When we finally got our food, it was terrible!!! My pasta tasted like something expired out of the freezer aisle from a store. This place was not worth the money and I would not recommend for anyone to come eat here. Please beware of this place.

Yelp
Great value for our meal here! We got the calf liver and polenta (as it's a Venetian specialty), along with pizza and gnocchi in the best gorgonzola cream sauce I've ever tasted. Might go back to Venice just for this place!

Sean M.

Yelp
Excellent ambience, friendly staff, great food, good wine, reasonable price. Great night in Venice.

Shauna T.

Yelp
Phenomenal! The lasagna melts in your mouth and it's amazing. All 4 dishes we are were excellent. Highly recommend.

Ed M.

Yelp
First time in Venice. Browsed our neighborhood for reasonably priced restaurants and picked this one because it was the busier of two with 18 euro dinner offerings. It turned out to be very good; so much so that we went back the next night and were just as pleased. For tourists looking for good food and not being ripped off like many tourist restaurants do, this is what you are looking for.
