We originally planned to go to a different restaurant, but the wait was too long, so we audibled to Trattoria da Lina. I'm no stranger to an old rustic Italian spot, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was completely empty when we walked in, so there were no issues getting a table. The service was initially prompt, and the specials were explained. We were seated where I could see the kitchen, and I saw one of the staff put some food in a microwave, which should have indicated what was to come, but we decided to see for ourselves. I chose the rabbit, and my girlfriend went with the gnocchi. It's all downhill from here, but I'll explain the issues with both of our dishes.
The rabbit was dry, and tasted odd. I'm not sure if it was freezer burn, or if the rabbit was cooked ahead of time and reheated in the microwave, but the price certainly didn't match the flavor. The sauce it was in tasted of something you might get in a school cafeteria; it was absolutely dreadful. My girlfriend's gnocchi had a gluey consistency, and the bolognese sauce was over seasoned to the point of being bitter. As more people came in for dinner, we had a difficult time getting our server's attention, and we had to walk up to the bar to get our check. I try my best to find the good in every restaurant I visit, but this was a terrible dining experience.
If a restaurant is charging this much for these dishes, they need to be good, and our food simply wasn't. I hate wasting food, but we left with barely anything finished on our plates. For an establishment that's been around since 2017, I expected much better than what we were served. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, even as an audible.
