We went for dinner on a Saturday evening and sat on the patio. We didn’t have a reservation but were able to be seated quickly. We started with the lemon calamari and it was incredible the creamy lemon sauce was so light and the perfect amount of citrus. We had the special (lamb rigatoni) and the vodka rigatoni. Everything was delicious our waitress was so kind and told us all her recommendations. Finally we finished dinner with two lemon cellos which was home made and the end of a perfect dinner! By far the best espresso martini I have ever had!

My fiancé and I went here for the first time and we had a great experience. They sat us at the bar while we waiting for our table and had a drink. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The polenta appetizer was delicious and we had tiramisu for dessert which is absolutely worth ordering. We were pleased with our meals, we got the gnocchi and veal Marsala they were good but we will be going back and probably trying something different.

I don't think these guys are going to last unfortunately. The food is okay but nothing great. The restaurant is very small, but very "over the top" old world Italian looking. The service was great. The people working there were absolutely great! I am truly hoping they will take a deep hard look at their menu and look at other high end Italian places and see what they can add and take away from their menu to bring themselves on par with other authentic Italian restaurants in the price range they are charging. Just because they broke the meals up into different courses so the price looks less than it really is doesn't change the fact that when you add the courses up you are competing with high end restaurants that quite frankly blow them away when it comes to the cuisine being served. I hope they fix this before they lose all their customers. I'd really like to see them succeed.

This is a delightful Italian atmosphere with very delicious Italian food. You cannot leave here without trying the calamari!!

Nice place, we didn’t see inside because we came with our little dog. The day was great then we could enjoy outside the food. Good flavor and portion. Normal price and friendly service.

Venue was crowded when we arrived, but fortunately we'd RSVP'ed during our drive there. We were seated within 15 minutes. Service was sufficient for a crowded Friday night. The food was delicious, but the serving portions were traditionally small; the bill was not -- even without having ordered any drinks from the bar. We would visit again, but on a less busy evening, and without any tweenager in tow.

We had a very nice experience. Young waiter very attentive and knowledgeable of menu. Pasta and Tortellini were very tasty. Tiramisu light and delicious.

We had an amazing experience at Luigi’s, the atmosphere and food was phenomenal. The staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant. Perfect place for special occasions! Highly recommend. We will definitely be back! Thank you.

Yelp
I hate to be this negative about a restaurant in the area, but this was a disappointing meal. The sauce tastes like it was straight out of a Chef Boyardee can. Not sure if it was missing some herbs, salt, maybe a shot of vinegar I don't know. The fusilli noodles were fine, and the sausage was really good, but if you're going to put down a red sauce to tie it together, you need the balance. I will say that service was good, the guy who sat us and checked in on us was nice and attentive, and our server was on point, but the food just isn't there.

Yelp
We set out to go somewhere else, which had an hour wait, so we came here. The ambiance is very casual, festive and celebratory. The crowd was loud and fun-loving, which bothered my wife. She thought it was way too loud and prohibited conversation. I had fun though. For food--we had bruscheta for one starter and eggplant for the other. Both good. For mains, I had lasagna that I absolutely loved, wife had chicken and artichoke. She thought the dish was very very skimpy on artichoke, having only a few leaves and no hearts. We had a bottle of pecorino wine that I liked. So all in all, I thought it was very good. My wife would say it was fair. You go and tell me what you think?

Yelp
I went here for a date because we had just walked by, it looked nice, and we hadn't been before. We went and were sat quickly and our waiter was excellent, but the food came out very quickly and was cold and appeared microwaved. The meatballs and gnocchi seemed frozen. We asked the waiter to take the food back because it was disgusting and allow us to finish our wine. The manager came out soon after and comped our food, but was quick to inform us that he needed the table to be vacated in twenty minutes (by then we had been seated for no more than twenty). We left and went around the corner to little bros burgers and had an excellent time.

Yelp
Properly authentic Italian dining. Intimate atmosphere. Great wine list with the best bottle prices I've seen in downtown Royal Oak. Don't park at a bagged meter, you will be towed. I met a friend for a show a Stagecrafters. The menu was limited. No pizzas, most appetizers were not available. They were out of a lot but what they had was good. Pasticco had an amazing sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The goat ragout special had fantastic meaty flavor but definitely goat, so don't try it if you don't like a bit of a gamey flavor. Only downside was that there were no pieces of meat in the actual pasta dish, just hunks of goat fat. The owner replaced the first dish of very large tube noodles that were a bit too al dente, with a plate of penne-like noodles. Same sauce. Still very good. We both like al dente but this noodle was a bit too stiff. Sticks in your teeth too much, which distracts from the dish. The owner came over and chatted with us a couple times. He explained that regional foods of Italy are of the past in this modern age. The place was filling fast and the busser guy kept coming over asking to box us or if we needed anything. No dessert option presented. So we scraped the plan for another bottle and cashed out to give up the table. Absolutely lovely place. I hope to visit again when more of the menu is available. Great place for a date.

Yelp
Came here due to the close proximity to the Royal Oak Music Theatre. We also were able to make reservations. So it was a win-win. The decor is very old-school Italian. Staff aren't the nicest. Our waiter was pretty pushy. It felt like he was trying to turn over tables quickly. Coming by many times to see if we were ready to order yet. He was helpful regarding suggestions of the menu. But my biggest complaint was our waiter coming by to pick up our checks. Just feels like a tacky move picking up the checks before the table leaves. Staff were not wearing masks. Restrooms are single stalls and tucked in the back to the left. The menu is decently large but not overwhelming. Pricey as one could expect. The pizza options were not available when we came and dinner menu specials were also not available. We came at 4:30p, so I guess that technically isn't dinner time yet. No drink specials. The complementary bread was very nice. The menu is à la cart. So what you see is what you get. If you want a salad with your pasta you're gonna have to order a salad. If you get an entrée the only thing you get is an entrée. I went with a house salad with house dressing. The salad was good and dressing was tasty. My pesto pasta dish that I got was good. It was the strozzapreti and came with shrimp. The pasta was definitely homemade and delicious. The dish came with five tiny shrimp. The pesto was delicious but very oily and herby all at once. Would I come back? Probably not. It was good but I'm not sure if it was good enough to keep coming back over and over again. Food came out very quickly though which was nice when we had a show to catch.

Yelp
If you like canned pasta ! Canned tomato from Kroger/Costco! This is the place. Please eat hear ! It's fresh from the CAN

Yelp
So I finically came back and one thing I love is that they still had seating for walk ins not just reservations, we did not have a reservation but was seated right away on a Saturday evening they had all the rest of the tables taken. I finally was able to figure out the dish that is my absolute favorite and it is called pollo Tosca it was not on any menu I've seen of this place previously but I got it last time and this time and every bite makes you say yum. We always get the cafe affogata after which honestly makes me want to get an espresso machine so I can make this dish my self, we previously got one to split this time we both got our owns. My boyfriend got the veal he said it was good as well with good flavor.

Tami Schultz S.

Yelp
One of our go to, for a good solid meal. Service is always friendly and efficient, we love the calamari, sausage, gnocchi and usually get one of the specials-

Yelp
Dinner before comedy show. Place is small so kinda loud food delicious Caprese salad yummy I had stuffed chicken 2 kinds of cheese with spinach Delish

Yelp
Very good authentic Italian cuisine and the best option by good measure in the royal oak area. Owner was attentive to our table and service was impeccable- food came quick and tasted fresh! The ambiance was nice and perfect spot for date night!

Yelp
I don't know which was better, the service or the food since both impressed the dinning group I was with. Authentic Italian food from different regions of Italy. Appetizers are not what you find in other places. Calamari is cut into thin steaks not rings. Salads range from mixed greens version to fresh fruit with goat cheese. First course is the pastas. I had the Spaghetti Alla Napoletana which warmed up in the oven to taste even better the next day. My fellow dinners raved about the Lasagna al Forno and the spaghetti Alla vongole e pancetta - spaghetti with light wine sauce and clams. The second course of different meat dishes ranging from fish, fowl, beef, pork, chicken and lamb. All with veggies and potatoes. I skipped this as most of my fellow dinners because the first course filled us up. There are few desserts but you have to listen to the list. Tiramisu and cannoli which you expect. I ordered the cheesecake with raspberry sauce and pistachio chips. It was the best cheesecake combo I have ever had. The noise level rose as more dinners came in to fill up the tables. But the group thank me for choosing this place and asked when we might come back. We will.

Victoria F.

Yelp
If you don't get the gnocchi, you are missing out! I have not been able to stop thinking about it since I've had it. It literally melts in your mouth. Everything we had was amazing! We will frequent this restaurant from now on!

Slsabeil A.

Yelp
Yummy food & drinks, attentive service & great ambiance. Highly recommend this place to anyone!

Anthony D.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food is great the polo Tosca I think that's how you pronounce it. You have to try it, the service, the waiters and waitresses the owner and his son they take care of you like your their own if you've never tried da Luigi you don't know what you're missing out everything on the menu that I've ever ordered is great authentic Italian will definitely be back many times

Louann H.

Yelp
My husband and I had a 5pm reservation (They open at 4 pm). Our first time eating there. And definitely the last time! Our waitress came to us after about ten minutes, but we were still discussing the courses. She came back two more times while we were clearly still reading and deciding our order. She seemed a little pushy so we started with house salads. They were fresh and tasty. Bread basket was okay--not warm as you'd expect at a fine dining establishment, so I was disappointed. Our entrees were not brought out timely. Waitress was no where to be seen. When she finally came to see if we we pleased or needed anything, I explained that the chicken dish I received was very bland (not sure how the chef managed to make a lemon sauce with capers so tasteless and unspectacular!) and the chicken was tough and tasted like it had been boiled instead of sautéed. They reluctantly offered to remake it and it would be really quick to do. It was about 20 minutes later, my husband had finished his equally unsatisfactory meal; and unbelievably it was even more tasteless and still tough and rubbery. My husband had ordered a steak and he choked down about a third of it and had no interest in finishing it. I obviously had offended the owner because when we paid the bill, I asked him to take off my entree. He became loud and abusive, saying he did not want us to ever come back. And then, even louder, told us to go back to Olive Garden next time we want Italian food! It was at this point we found out our "waitress" was actually their bartender who had filled in before all the servers had arrived. She clearly was not capable of juggling the two positions. I'm 7o+ years old and enjoy real Italian food; I don't go to Olive Garden because I appreciate authentic cuisine as opposed to "fast food that stresses quantity vs quality". (My apologies to Olive Garden.) He actually followed us outside hollering that we had eaten there for FREE. I turned and reminded him that we paid with a $50 gift certificate (which was not returned to us) and a credit card for the additional $65 + a tip (despite the very poor service we received.) He replied he would not consider that payment at all because we were not welcome back ever! Bottom line: THE WORST dining experience of my entire life. DO NOT EVER GO to Trattoria da Luigi. LUIGI CUTRARA is the rudest proprietor EVER. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Amy V.

Yelp
Trattoria Da Luigi is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant! Their pasta dishes are absolutely heavenly--I highly recommend trying their Pasticcio and Pappardelle con Marsala e Funghi (mushrooms). And when I'm in the mood for something else, the Pollo Tosca hits the spot every time. Oh, and don't miss out on their delicious Espresso Martini--it's the perfect way to end a fantastic meal. Trattoria Da Luigi has that cozy vibe and incredible flavors that make it a must-visit for any Italian food lover! Luigi the owner and his son Mario are fantastic. The servers are always super friendly. I come here often!

Craig T.

Yelp
We celebrated my daughter-in-law's birthday yesterday at Trattoria DaLuigi's restaurant. It is a quaint Italian restaurant in "upscale " Royal Oak. We had a wonderful server who led us to a wonderful meal. The atmosphere was very welcoming. The food was delicious! I had a shrimp pesto dinner (which is something I would never order). It was excellent!! The mushroom ravioli was served to two of us. They loved it! The last order was chicken "something." There was enough to take away. Dessert was the most scrumptious teramasiu (sp)! It was a nice experience and we plan to return!

W W.

Yelp
First dish was served cold, 1/2 hour for a second dish to show up also terrible when the maître d' who didn't know that any problem had occurred asked how dinner was and I mentioned it was awful his response was; well there is a Olive Garden 3 miles from here. To which I replied you really just said that to me. Obviously I will never go back and obviously and obviously I will tell everybody I know to never go there

Kaela K.

Yelp
I came here with my sister and her boyfriend. It's a cute little place in downtown Royal Oak. We were seat quickly, the service was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Being honest, the food was lacking in flavor for all three of us dining there. The flavors felt elementary - just very bland and not cohesive.

Herika E.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner and was highly disappointed. The atmosphere is beautifully decorated inside. Very romantic and lots of authentic Italian vibes throughout. Unfortunately, the food was not very good. I ordered the Gluten Free Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce. To my surprise, it came out on a beautiful plate. Although the portion size was great, I could barely finish my meal. The tomato sauce resembled ketchup - very thick. The sauce was very bland and had no flavor. The worst part is, the noodles combined with the marinara sauce had a very "sticky" consistency. It was very awkward eating it. I was still very hungry after I left the unfinished plate of un-eaten pasta at the table and ended up going to another restaurant in the area. I hate leaving bad reviews but I would honestly say, I would NOT recommend this restaurant.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I had my 2-year-old with me, so I wasn't sure if Luigi's would be a good idea, but they made us feel right at home the second we walked in the door. They greeted us with a smile, set us up with a high chair, and brought the bread quickly! The whole restaurant is so beautifully decorated and it feels intimate but not crowded. The gnocchi were like little pillows of goodness! My daughter and my sister LOVED the Lasagna, with hard-boiled eggs and peas inside! Another server who was waiting on tables nearby, stopped by at the end of the meal with a small bowl of ice cream :) They made us feel very, very special! Every meal I have had at Luigi's has been amazing! Even with a two year old (which isn't easy at home, sometimes!)

Emily A.

Yelp
I recently visited this restaurant a couple weeks ago with my mom. We were in town for a show that night and decided to stop in for a quick dinner. We were seated immediately which was great. Our waitress Delaney was phenomenal. We informed her that it was our first time visiting so she began giving us some recommendations. The calamari was out of this world and the steak was fantastic. Our drinks were delicious as well. If the food wasn't enough, the staff certainly made the experience over the top. I will definitely be returning.

Sigi M.

Yelp
This is the worst place I have ever been. The food was super bland and below average and not worth the price. 18 dollar for a plate of spaghetti to be that bad is insane. The manager was walking around like a chicken with no head and talking loudly to his friends that were eating dinner there, trying to get us to leave early because he wanted to sit all this friends there. Even in the worst cheapest restaurant we havent been treated like that. The waiter was the only nice thing in the entire place. But poor guy couldnt do much because his manager was a douche. Never going back.

Linda O.

Yelp
Our first time here. Don't know how we've missed it all of these years. Absolutely delicious from the bruschetta to the pastas to the tiramisu. We'll definitely be back.

Cynthya L.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful time for our friends birthday at Trattoria the Luigi. The food was fantastic. The service was amazing. The ambience is cozy so familiar. I had the chicken piccata. It was happiness on a plate. We will absolutely be back.

Bobbie G.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous restaurant. The best Italian food.. I love the chicken tortellini soup! And Luigi is awesome...

William R.

Yelp
We have been guests of Trattoria Da Luigi for many years and the waitstaff and chief never disappoint. The noise can be a bit over whelming at times; however, one can't complain to much as the noise is the sound of joy, happiness, friendship and, love.

Lisa S.

Yelp
This is our special occasion spot. Birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations - they all happen here. We wanted to keep supporting Luigi's during the "pause," so we got take out last night. The owner (Luigi) always goes out of his way to make sure that his customers leave happy. We've tried lots of dishes and haven't found any that we didn't like. The strozzapreti with pesto and shrimp is my all time favorite. You have to try the focaccia bread too!!

Scott D.

Yelp
Very nice Italian spot with great vibes, service was very quick and the food was spot on across the board. My wife and I have been multiple times and have never had a bad experience. Would highly recommend.

F.R. D.

Yelp
The outdoor seating area was the reason for stopping to eat here. Right on the street and roomy. The food was good but nothing phenomenal and certainly not chef quality. The eggplant parmesan appetizer was slightly burnt on the bottom, strong bitter eggplant taste, and a very small portion size- not what I would consider shareable. The snapper was cooked well in a basic tomato sauce- the chicken was two very thin seared slices (I don't think it was even an entire chicken breast!) covered in a strong lemon flavored creamy sauce that was lacking depth. The capers were large and the artichokes were the quartered, canned variety. The potatoes were large cubes and not crispy or flavorful. I enjoyed the ambience but the food was overpriced for the quality. I would not go back.

Annie A.

Yelp
Very cute restaurant for date night! The calamari is the best I've ever had, it is less fried than most places and has a creamy lemon sauce that is sooo yummy. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating (esp during the pandemic) and they have a large outdoor seating area now. I also like the citrus salad, although I miss the beet salad that has been taken off of the menu.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Solid Italian spot. The tortellini cheese sauce pasta was very good. The polla tosca was ok although I would have preferred the chicken to be breaded. Great wine list. I would recommend they add a cocktail list as they don't have one- although they were able to make normal cocktails on request. Overall, decent spot in Royal Oak if you are craving Italian food.

L S.

Yelp
I've been here several times in the last couple of years and have never been disappointed in a dish. My favorite dishes hands down are the gnocchi and the veal Marsala. And don't skip on the tiramisu! The staff as always been extremely nice as well.

Margie S.

Yelp
It is our first time here, we were pleasantly minutes surprised how nice the menu was. It was packed, but were told a table would be ready in a few minutes. The bar area is small, and there was not a lot of room to wait, but we were seated soon after. We ordered two cocktails. In the future I would get wine instead We ordered two specials, stuffed squid and the pastae amatiriciana, both were great. We also ordered a salad and the pasta puttanesca. You also get bread with garlic butter for your table. The owner drops by to check on you, which is always appreciated. Great little spot. They have a pizza oven, and pizzas looked good coming out, so we will try that next pasta are here.

Jason S.

Yelp
Last night was the first time we've ordered from Luigi's, unfortunately it will be our last. We had high hopes based off of the overall Yelp reviews. The food was very generic and bland. We ordered carry out due to Covid. As I waited in the restaurant for my food I witnessed the owner talk down to a server. She was bring bread to one of the tables located in a tent on the outside of the building. The owner asked her "how many are at your table?", she replied "two". He immediately grabbed half the bread with his barehands and said "we are going to run out of bread, this is a way too much for that table". It wasn't too much bread. The server looked terrified and exhausted. The next thing I witnessed was a dish washer, mask-less, putting away clean dishes. I asked the owner where is his mask. He replied that he only makes them wear masks when they come out front.

Danielle N.

Yelp
12/10 stars! -Garlic bread and the butter spread were delicious. -Calamari- best I've ever had! The sauce is to die for and it's lightly fried, so it's much more meat ‐Lasagna- eh, don't care for it. I don't know why they put peas in it. Related note- I don't like any red sauce because it's nothing close to my grandpa's. -Mushroom Ravioli with WHITE/ALFREDO SAUCE- OH MY LANTA it's a 30/10. It comes with red sauce- but I asked for white/alfredo instead. They need to make this a permanent change on their menu. The greatest Italian dish I've tried ever! My bf and I ordered a second dish. You also get 5 pieces of ravioli. -Mark is a wonderful server as well! Thank you for the wine recommendation.

Lynn H.

Yelp
Our group of six dined at Trattoria Da Luigi for Royal Oak Restaurant Week. The prix fix menu offered excellent value with a three course offering, but the fact that two of our party were allowed to order off of the regular menu put a serious dent in our overall satisfaction. Why would that be? Because those two did not order three courses and were left waiting for their meal until our third course arrived more than two hours after we placed our orders. Yes, Luigi's offers a real European, slow-paced experience. My recommendation for the future is that restaurants offering prix fixe menus for Restaurant Week require everyone in a party to order from that menu. Other than the pacing, our experience was at least a four-star one. The food is outstanding; between us, we had bruschetta and caprese salad and calamari and papardelle di funghi and saltimbocca all romana and spagetti with meatballs in a pizza bowl and margherita pizza - and every single dish was delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, Luigi stopped by our table to talk, the ambiance was relaxed and sophisticated.

Aimee R.

Yelp
The calamari and the sauce that's on it are amazing and a must get!!!! You can tell it's a family owned business because there's a lot of care that the owners and the staff take when you are dining with them.

Beth B.

Yelp
So much charm in this hidden Royal Oak gem. Luigi the owner treats you like family when you walk in the door. Our waitress was wonderful and funny as well. For food we shared the tender and delicious calamari. The lemon cream sauce it's drizzled with is incredible. We also shared the Pappardelle with a rich mushroom sauce. The pasta was like silk and the sauce was so buttery and smooth. We would definitely get it again. The restaurant also has pizza. We haven't tried it yet but it looked really good passing by. They have a pizza station in the corner where a guy is tossing dough and cooking pizzas in the brick oven, really cool. This place reminds me of a place in Little Italy where you feel like you're at Luigi's home. If I had to make some suggestions I'd say update some of the pastas with some more modern ingredients and offer more pastas that include meat so people can enjoy them with some protein. I'd love to see some veal with pasta or oven baked chicken with lemon cream sauce pasta and some veggies. I don't like how many of the entrees are served with a potato and vegetables. If I'm going Italian I don't really want potatoes unless we're talking gnocchi. Also make the cheese ravioli a regular item! I had it last time it was the best ravioli I've ever had! Maybe add a veal ravioli! Keep up the good work Luigi!

Aaron R.

Yelp
First impressions...tonight was our first visit. The staff seemed disorganized as we arrived at opening time. We sat at the bar and things went downhill from there. She ordered a cosmo...bar tender poured the drink into the glass and says, "Oh, you need more cranberry juice". Then he said, "Oh, yeah we're out." She ordered a rum and coke....they were also out of Coke. She asked for water. We ordered the Antipasto Italiano for our appetizer...bartender informed us that they haven't had that for quite some time. That was it. We left. No, we have no interest in trying again. Message to management: 1. You have to have the basics in stock. Can't blame Covid for empty bag-in-a-box Coke or cranberry. That's poor inventory management. 2. If your menu changes, update it.

Aaron C.

Yelp
Excellent food and great service from Kristen. The menu had a lot of great options. We will certainly be coming back again very soon!

Shahida H.

Yelp
LOVE this food is consistently EXCELLENT! Service exceptional - particularly after spending 90 minutes in rainy day traffic at rush hour If this review is removed - it will be suspicious since this business does not pay for advertisement (which would skew opinions for advertisers)

Alexis H.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years as they have some good staples - always recommend the Pasticcio. Lately, the newer waitstaff and reception is lacking, the food portions are getting smaller and overall quality is waning. See sparse portions of calamari and $28.50 Veal Marsala. The atmosphere is always great, romantic and cozy. I became more un-impressed though when they touted their social distancing with cute ghosts taking up every other table only to see them removed as Mosteller customers came in. Time to find a new restaurant favorite!

Grace W.

Yelp
I made a reservation a while out because they accepted downtown dollars and had come highly recommended. The food was okay but when we went to pay the waitress said they don't accept downtown dollars - I asked why and she said their machine is down and there is nothing she can do. In the future if they say they accept downtown dollars they should write down my information and charge my account when the machine comes back up as that is not the customers fault - would not have eaten there had they made that clear and won't return.

Lisa R.

Yelp
I made reservations 2 weeks ago for 8 people for a 90 year old birthday. We got there and they were closed. I never received a call. Thankfully Lily's Seafood across the street was open. We had a wonderful meal and service.

Danielle M.

Yelp
We just got back from our honeymoon and we wanted to relive our experience in Italy. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly host. For wine, they present with an extensive wine list that includes many by-the-glass options and an even broader by-the-bottle selection with many coming directly from Italian regions. They also give you free bread and freshly whipped butter. You gotta love that. I ordered the lasagna it was perfect as I am a pescatarian and tasted great. It was filled with peas cheese sauce and eggs. Sounds weird, but tastes great. My husband got the pasticcio, which he loved. We also got the focaccia which was kind of bland. Would have given 5 since we've been here a few times and always loved it, but for some reason the service was off tonight. The appetizer didn't come until the main course reached the table and when my husband ordered a second glass of wine when the meal was served it took basically the entire dinner for it to arrive.

Yelp
The owner was the previous owner of sangria, which I did like. It's good to see him back in the restaurant sector again. I like the laid back ambiance of this place and I do like that they have gluten free options for me, which makes it usually difficult to go eat Italian food at all. I got the spaghetti with the basic tomato sauce but spiced up some, my hubby has lasagna. He enjoyed and ate up the lasagna. I thought the pasta was tasteless and not easy to eat, though the sauce was good. The gf pasta source needs a bit if work to make it still taste good.

Yelp
No reservation tonight but were able to eat at the bar. Great meal & loved our bartender (Traci). Will definitely return.

Yelp
This lovely little spot on Washington has the best Neapolitan style pizza in metro Detroit. Probably all of Michigan. I crave the Pizza Margherita here; I get the taste for it, and nothing else will do. Everything I've ever had here has been delicious, the polenta, eggplant caponata, the gnocchi, or the specials, but it's the Pizza Margherita that invades my thoughts. In a town where doughy, deep-dish pizza is the standard, it's hard enough to find a decent New York-style slice, let alone the subtle char of a Neapolitan pizza. The Pizza Margherita is nothing without the delicate balance of crispness to chew on the crust. With so few ingredients, they all must shine brightly, and equally. The perfect amount of tomato sauce to mozzarella to basil; it's hard to get them just right. I order Pizza Margherita every place I've ever seen it on a menu, and the pizza at Da Luigi's is right at the top of the list. It's done the right way, and it's a deceptively tall order. And the desserts are amazing. You'll be stuffed, but save some room for the Limoncello cake or the tiramisu; they're so good. The mood and decor of the restaurant is quite romantic, with a nice wine selection. The servers are pleasant and efficient, and the owner is always there making sure things run smoothly. The trattoria, is sadly becoming kind of an anachronism, at least around here, as gentrification creeps and twists its vines across Metro Detroit, bearing the fruit of endless shared plates and $16 craft cocktails, as hipster joints abound. If you are looking for a quiet, cozy spot for a date night, with delicious food and without an ounce of pretension, then this is your place.
