I had Trattoria del Mare on my list for a long time, so my disappointment is hard to put into words.
The freshness of the fish is undeniable, nothing to criticize there. However, beyond the raw quality of the ingredients, there is a complete lack of technique, creativity, or identity—nothing that would truly make you want to come back.
Starters are priced between €16 and €20. I chose an off-menu starter: an artichoke salad with two mazzancolle (Mediterranean prawns). It was good, but absolutely nothing exceptional, and it ended up costing €30, which felt unjustified.
Pasta dishes are priced around €30, which I honestly refused to order—at that point I simply thought, “Really?”
For the main course, I ordered grilled squid. It was good, very simple, and I was actually happy with it—but again, that was it. No wow factor, no personality. As a side dish, I had scarola (escarole), which was very well cooked.
The restroom, however, was absolutely not up to the standards of a restaurant charging these prices. Industrial refill soap is not acceptable in a place positioning itself at this level.
The restaurant is seriously overpriced without any real reason. There were no complimentary touches, no amuse-bouche, no welcome or farewell gesture—nothing that makes a guest feel valued or encourages a return.
The staff was kind, helpful, and well-presented, which is worth mentioning positively.
That said, the overall setup lacks care: a table with a plastic tablecloth would honestly have felt more appropriate than what was offered. The experience felt unfinished and unthoughtful.
In the end, I left unhappy. No identity, no clear vision, and no intention to give customers a reason to come back. An unmotivated, overpriced restaurant and a big lost opportunity.
