"Boasting the attractive ambience of a typical Italian trattoria, La Palomba has been run by the Cinti family since 1965 and is now in the hands of the third generation. The menu features Umbrian specialities including delicious home-made umbrichelli pasta served with various sauces." - Michelin Inspector

We came specially from Rome to this restaurant to look for the best pasta carbonara. I can officially tell you this is the best pasta carbonara I ate. We also had the beef fillet and it was just mind blowing. I can’t recommend any more on this place, it just so good I wanna live in their kitchen

It’s always a big pleasure for my tummy every time I return to Palomba. The food is consistently delicious, and the staff are always warm and welcoming. In the summer, I especially love sitting at the outdoor tables surrounded by the beautiful flowers on the walls — it adds such a charming touch. Thank you, Palomba, for staying true to yourself and not changing over the years. Please never change!

When in Orvieto this is a must reserve. We visit the city 2-3 times a year and La Palomba is always on our reservation list. Great traditional food. Friendly staff and a guaranteed good quality meals. If you don’t reserve it will likely be full!

Local fare full of flavours and modest prices. Indoors or outdoors tables. We preferred outside sitting. Good service. Recommended

We were recommended by locals and could not have been happier with this recommendation. The owners, the gentleman serving the tables, and the food were all excellent. And I must say the house wine, which is bottled in labeled under the restaurant brand, a Sangiovese, has been the best housewife we’ve had throughout our trip to Italy. Would recommend and would return.

4.8/5 (5/5 food; 5/5 service; 4/5 atmosphere). Beautiful restaurant which was advised to me from the michelin guide. We walked in to book as it was impossibile to get them on the phone. Nonetheless, food was excellent. Very traditional home style cooking, simole but amazing ingredients. Good wine list, althiugh could be better. Staff were very friendly and quick and helpful. Overall had a very good evening.

Google
One of the best meals we had in Umbria. Everything is fantastic here: the service, the incredible food, the ambiance, the wine selection, and even the oil on the table and the amaro after dinner. The owners and the staff are delightful and very helpful. We had great wine (Montefalco rosso), great pasta with boar ragù, the most tender and delicious filet with nettle sauce, and some amazing selection of Pecorino cheese. Absolutely recommended, but make sure you reserve in advance because It - deservedly - fills up fast.

I have no idea why this place is so popular. We had lunch here last week and it was the worst meal on our entire trip. The food is average at best. But alas, one can forgive flawed food for great service. This place provided neither. As soon as the doors opened, there was a manic, unwelcoming vibe to the entire place (except for the older man - he was friendly). It's impossible to eat here without a reservation (which we had). However, people off the street don't know this, so they were constantly coming in and trying to get lunch, and the staff were like maniacs at the requests. So aggravated just by customers walking in the door! JUST PUT A SIGN OUTSIDE STATING LUNCH SERVICE IS COMPLETELY FULL! The end. But no...they all took turns running to the door to act totally irritated by guests trying to come in for lunch. This made the service awful and disorganized because the servers were constantly being pulled away. My husband had two plates taken away from him before he was even finished eating! I think this place is a victim of their own success. They got recognition in a Michelin Guide, but cannot keep up with the demands. Also, the young male server was one of the rudest most sullen waiters we've ever had. Clearly hates his job. We were looking forward to our meal and it was such a waste of time and money.

Yelp
One of the favorite restaurants in Orvieto that Michelin recognizes is Trattoria La Palomba. Located along cobblestone streets is the Cinti family's restaurant that first opened in 1965. This charming Italian trattoria features Umbrian specialities that include delicious house-made pasta topped with wild boar ragu.  It's a favorite of Enrica Cotarella, one of the sisters running Famiglia Coratella winery. Be sure to order a bottle or glass of her white Ferentano 2021 Coratella wine. This expressive white wine from Central Italy is made from Roscetto grapes fermenting in oak barrels to provide pleasing vanilla, oak, and buttery notes. It's ideal with pastas topped with shaved fresh black truffles. Be sure to finish with a plate of crunchy pistachio biscotti. Take what is left for your  coffee or cappuccino the next morning.

Yelp
Our visit to Orveito was complete as La Palomba didn't disappoint. The staff were delightful, service, ambiance and food were outstanding!

Yelp
Best flan with chocolate ever. There were other good things, but that was special. Beef is a sure bet here, too. Cozy and comfortable. A little Italian is helpful, even tho they correct all your vowel sounds anyway.

Yelp
The atmosphere is five stars. Sat outside and the service was superb. The staff did not hurry us through our meal. The wine list was amazing. I'm not sure I ordered the best of their menu. We ordered two pastas. Don Marcello. I would say average and not to order this. My daughter ordered pasta with pasta with wild boar. This was much much better. However, the pasta carbonara at the table next to us looked so much better. Would I go here again? Maybe. But more likely to go back to Mezza Luna.

Yelp
My family and I were visiting Orvieto for a day and came across this restaurant. Little did we know, it was a Michelin Star restaurant! We couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat here since it was our first time eating at a Michelin Star restaurant. We arrived to the restaurant around 6:45 PM. The restaurant opens for dinner at 7:30 PM and closes at 10:00 PM. The owner saw us and said we needed a reservation to eat here so we ended up leaving. As we were walking away, he stopped us and we were very fortunate to be seated right away(7 adults - 1 baby). He was so kind! The restaurant is very authentic. According to the Michele Star guide, this restaurant has been ran by the same family for over 50 years! The service was fast and the food was delicious. We ordered the bruschetta's, antipasti platter, wine, arrabiatta (pasta with tomatoes and red pepper), tagliatelle with wild boar sauce, Carbonara with black truffles, and steak with truffles. My fiancé said it was the best steak he's ever had! The pasta was Al dente to perfection. Everything tasted so fresh. I hope to come back here again!

Yelp
This Michelin star restaurant is a good place to go and start in Orvieto... the food of course is classic Umbria style... delish! From its signature Palomba dish ... roasted dove or pigeon in a black olive sauce... amazing... to a local pasta Umbricelli all' Amatriciana simply the best... rinsed down with a beautiful Antinori Cevaro!!!! From Umbria. In door out door seating makes for a lovely ambiance and the service is professional and attentive. Make sure you make reservations in advance... very popular place... so go.... And enjoy because you deserve it... Ciao.

Yelp
This place deserves a 4.5 stars and was a great overall experience. This place holds a michelin star so we were expecting an outrageous wait and cost but we were wrong! Came in on a sunday around 130 after our tour and initially was turned away by the sign that said completely full. We opened the door and asked and i think the manager was there and squeezed us in!!! So according to our tour guide, this place is known for their pidgeon dish, but my wife and i were not feeling that adventurous lol. The restaurant is on the smaller side with about 10-15 parties capacity. It feels very homey. The staff is very attentive and took our orders right away. The pasta came about 15 minutes after ordering, the lamb came about 15 minutes after we finished our pasta so about 45 minutes from initial order. The pasta was great and tasted homemade. The boar complemented the pasta and tomato sauce. My wife enjoyed her ascaro, i didnt try it so i cant comment on it. The vegetable soup was hearty and refreshing. My favorite was the lamb, i wished it came out sooner ao i could enjoy it with the pasta but i still ate it which shows how good it was Overall this is a must try if your in ovierto. I think we were fortunate to have gotten in, so try to prepare for a wait. The cost was very comparable to other italian cuisine we had in rome so definitely try this place!

Yelp
Wonderful service and tasty pasta. Lovely dinner for a large group in montepulciano.they gave us time and space to enjoy a leisurely and fantastic meal.

Yelp
This is a must try if you visit the Umbria region in Italy. It is located in Orvieto, one of the hill towns close to Tuscany. You have to park out and hike in but it is worth it to dine at this Michelin rated restaurant. The reservation was difficult to make since the host did not really speak English, and we went there not totally sure if we had a reservation or not. But they seated us immediately on arrival and the service was very hospitable. This was one of our two favorite dinners we had on our two week trip in Italy. The restaurant had very simple rustic decor, fitting of the village it is located in. We started with antipasti of bruschetta with truffle. The server brought out a plate with two thin pieces of toasted bread with olive oil on them. Then he brings out the truffle and starts grating it over the bread. I have had fresh truffles before in the states, but nothing like this. He grated, and grated, and grated (my eyes bugged out) and he still kept grating until there was literally a pile of truffle on the toasted bread! It tasted like heaven! We also had the wild boar tagliatelle, typical of this region, and fresh pasta with more truffle (because apparently I can't get enough truffle). Both dishes were delicious with perfectly made fresh pasta. Dessert was a sweet wine with biscuits for dunking. This whole meal, along with a liter of house red, came to 66 euros! Anyone who enjoys great food and a great deal needs to try this place. I promise it will not disappoint!

Yelp
Yep. Nuff said... Still trying to decide? Fine, here is a little more. Food: 5/5 stars. Truffles-- on everything. It all works. Environment: 5/5 stars. Your in Orvieto... what more environment could you ask for? Service: 4/5 stars. It's Italy.

Yelp
This restaurant was SO amazing! The food, outdoor dining. the graceful and lithe serving staff all made the experience wonderful! The food was so delicious, beautifully presented, and creative. I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
The Cardinale, I think, filet is steeped in red-wine goodness that is just exactly the right compliment to the rich meat. Everything we ordered was really outstanding. Mixed antipasta was fun. The clincher for us, though, was the panna cotta with chocolate sauce. It was simply the best. The service could have been more embracing, but not speaking the language hurts me just like it does any other American in Italy without command of their language. It does hold a Michelin Star. It's a favorite among locals and in high demand for tourists. Get a reservation several days or weeks ahead, depending on the season. I really wanted to splash around in that chocolate sauce!

Yelp
With only one night in Orvieto, we knew well ahead of time that we wanted a really good meal, and through some internet sleuthing found this place. Our host made a reservation for us - and luckily too, because it appeared they didn't take walk-ins; each table boasted a "Reserved" sign that also indicated the lucky party who would be dining there. Not everyone spoke English but it was passable enough that we got by and enjoyed a lovely meal. The food - as expected - was absolutely top notch! I started with the fresh tomato bruschetta. Simple but perfect! (It's just not as good anywhere else in the world as it is in Italy.) I enjoyed the tagliatelle with wild boar rage for my main. Again, simple but just right. The portion was substantive enough I was full, though I noticed some other diners around me following their pasta primi with a large steak, so maybe I have a smaller appetite than I thought! My friend ordered the famous pigeon and loved it. She was literally sucking the meat off the bones! I had a bite and was surprised at the sauce; it looked almost like a Mexican mole but was more of a blended tapenade. Tasty - but you have to work for your dinner! For dessert we each tried a regional cheese with honey. I had a rosemary-infused goat cheese I'd highly recommend. If I ever get the chance I'll be back!

Yelp
We had the opportunity during the past 3 days to have lunches and dinners at many of the highly rated restaurants in Orvieto. On the second day of our stay we had lunch at La Palomba. Of all the restaurants we tried, this one was clearly the best. I was a bit concerned with the large menu translated into 4 languages that the restaurant would be totally tourist focused. My concerns were unfounded. Half of the patrons were locals that knew the staff and management. The house wines are offered in 375ml, 500ml, or 750 volumes. We tried both the local red and white wines. We shared a starter of bruschetta, which was nicely prepared. For pastas, we had the arribiatta and the tagglitelli with boar ragu. Both pastas were outstanding. I would rank the pastas as some of the best I have ever tasted in Italy. Clearly the restaurant takes pride in all their dishes. Reservations for lunch were not necessary but dinner reservations are highly recommended.

Yelp
What a terrible meal and experience at this restaurant. The ratings indicated that this restaurant would offer a wonderful experience but the food wasn't all that remarkable compared to other places in Italy. We arrived and were seated at 7:30pm and waited close to 45 minutes to order. We were not allowed to order dessert because the hostess decided we had stayed too long at 9pm and she needed the table for the next party. Never has this happened to me before! What a disappointment for our final evening on Orvieto. Try another place!

Yelp
Absolutely incredible meal! I lived in Orvieto for 3 months as a student. I couldn't have been in a better place for food! The restaurants in Orvieto are quite amazing. La Palomba is incredible. If you get the opportunity- get the pigeon! It's an Orvieto classic, the house wine is also magical here. The service is always great! Can't wait to be back in Umbria soon :)

Yelp
First authentic Italian meal. So fantastic!!! My friends and I shared a bunch of dishes. I don't eat cheese, so I got one with tomato sauce and pancetta. It was a tad salty. But the steak covered in truffle made up for everything. It was delicious!!! And unlike in the USA, they did not skimp on the truffles at all.

Yelp
This place is beyond amazing and delicious. Our underground cave tour guide recommended we come here to try the famous Orvieto pigeon delicacy, and we ended up having the best meal in our two week journey of Italy. The wait staff recommended local Orvieto favorites, and we fell in love with it all. The wait staff went out of their way to recommend items although English was not a common language here. We had anything and everything from local wine, bruschetta, bacon pasta, Wild boar, to pigeon and olives. Wow! Bellissimo! Mama Mia! A must visit if you are in Orvieto.

Kristin B.

Yelp
We had an excellent meal and night here. The chef and staff are gracious hosts and the food is delicious. The fresh truffle pasta should be on everyone's bucket list. We also had wild boar and local prosciutto. Beautiful night. If you're planning a trip to Orvieto, make reservations now.

Sherry S.

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere with mix of tourist diners and locals. Good truffle tenderloin and wild boar. Walnut cake was a bit dry.

Judd C.

Yelp
Amazing food and wine and exceptional prices. We had bruschetta with truffles and bacon and they were both amazing. Great simple salad, and filet covered in truffles was awesome. The truffle pasta was also amazing. If you love truffles and don't eat here when visiting, you missed out.

Allen I.

Yelp
Good but disappointing. We were excited to be here during truffle season. And there were multiple truffle choices on the menu. Intentions were to have truffles in all courses and ordered as such. The first course was a tomato bruschetta with truffles. The truffles were added at the table. Great presentation. But you could not taste and barely smell the truffles. I addressed this and was told that "the truffles they were using were not that good". "And for the price that they charge for their truffle dishes that this was the best that they could do." I suggested to the them that maybe I should change my other dishes to non- truffle dishes and they agreed. So we went with 2 different simple pasta dishes. They both tasted exactly the same. Very disappointing. They did deduct the truffle bruschetta from the bill. What is sad is that they were just going through the motion with the truffle dishes. Why do that? This is supposed to be a great restaurant.

Mark J.

Yelp
Best Italian meal during our vacation! We were the only guests who didn't speak Italian. The food and wine was amazing. Very reasonable prices. Great service. A must stop.

john b.

Yelp
On of my favorites in the area and a place I manage to get to once or twice a year. It is a classic restaurant in the Italian medieval town sense. The menu includes some family recipes and their fall line up is stellar. It's hard not to have the Cingale with the waitress shaving the black truffles on top. Just a killer. Almost everything is sensational and it is consistent. They are busy and you often need a reservation to get in for lunch, but if you are flexible and don't succeed, come back an hour later and tables often appear. The prices are reasonable and a great value. It's got that old world ambience and is very special.

K M.

Yelp
This is my favorite trattoria in Orvieto. The carbonara with shaved truffle is a must!
